Lovely meal in beer garden. Food was good and really big portions . Staff efficient and friendly . The only down side is no table service outside but fully explained on arrival. Would definitely recommend booking if weather not great as looked like it could get busy inside very quickly.

We arrived at our nearby holiday location and found it extremely difficult to find somewhere local to eat on a Sunday evening. We found The Ship Inn and they managed to find a table for us even though they were very busy, The staff were all friendly and helpful and we both enjoyed our meal of a trio of Lyme Bay sausages and mash. We are happy to recommend this lovely establishment.

Very popular inn, with a varied menu to suit most tastes. The food was very good and well presented, with friendly and efficient service. Even though it was out of season it was very busy, recommend you book.

Had a nice celebration dinner at The Ship for my Dad's 80th Birthday on a Friday evening. Pub has a nice ambience and decor and service was friendly and efficient. A good pub grub menu with a good selection of fresh local seafood. The Scallops I had to start was great, as was my Steak and Kidney pie. Chunky chips were fabulous. Food was good quality, hot, and generous portions. Prices average for pub grub. Would certainly eat here again.

We had an excellent lunch here, beautiful starters of fresh seafood and more fresh fish mains. All home made and super tasty. Would definitely return again if back in the area!

Visited for our wedding anniversary, food was fantastic as was the service. Just the right amount of time between the three courses. (The San Miguel was probably the best I've had). Will definitely return next time we're in the area.

Seaton eateries closed as usual on a Sunday evening so tried the Ship Inn, was busy, but squeezed us in with no fuss, staff were friendly and proper fresh well cooked, very tasty food at very reasonable prices, can't go wrong. Thanks to you all there, saved the day!.

First night staying in a nearby cottage, so had supper here. The staff are so lovely and friendly l, the food was delicious too. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful food, we had Brie for the starter, then I had Mussels which were gorgeous, sauce was lovely and creamy lots of flavour, my daughter had a medium rare steak cooked perfectly. Busy place, would advise booking. Will definitely visit again if in the area, would love to sit outside and enjoy the garden next time.

We received a friendly greeting, the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals of a whole Cornish sole and salmon, with a range of vegetables. For the quality of food, the prices were very reasonable.

Best meal of the holiday! The food was absolutely incredible and massive portions, even the crab was huge! The pork belly is definitely a recommendation but everything we had was perfect. Didn't even get chance to take pictures of the food because they looked so good before we started and no one stopped until the plates were empty. Really helpful and friendly staff too. Definitely a recommendation from us, especially with it being dog friendly too

Came to the Ship inn and sat in the lovely beer garden for dinner. Couldn’t have asked for a better evening watching the sunset and enjoying some fresh mussels. Although very busy, the staff were very attentive and friendly. Couldn’t recommend enough!!

My husband and I were visiting my MIL over the weekend and came here for lunch. It's been a few years since our last visit during COVID so it was good to visit during normal times again. As I understand it, it's a family run business and it does have a nice, warm family vibe to it. The menu at The Ship is extensive, the food robust and plentiful. My MIL had the cod & chips and my husband had the sausage and mash. What I loved most from this restaurant is that they also offer a 'small bites' menu, for those who don't have a large appetite, like myself. In the past, I've been banned from ordering from the kid's menu and I can't eat a full meal, so I've had to resort to ordering starters as a main as I hate wasting food and I'm not always in the position to doggybag the leftovers. Slowly, I'm beginning to see more and more restaurants do this as establishments recognise that different people have different appetites. I had the smaller version of the breaded chicken escalopes with rosemary & lemon crust. My only minor criticism is that there wasn't enough of that lovely sauce, otherwise it was a gorgeous meal. All in all, great food, great family vibe and great staff. And to the lovely young lady that served us yesterday, thanks for the tip on your jeans from UO, I've found them and ordered a pair.😊

The food is great and service was good at the beginning. After they cleared our plates we waited 20 minutes before getting up and asking for the dessert menu. After another 10 minutes we decided to get up and leave. Explained to the girl at the bar what has happened and there was no apology so wasn’t too happy when we left

We have used this pub restaurant many times over many years but the decline in service and general organisation needs to be urgently addressed. Firstly, and after 45 mins, two meals arrived but didn’t look quite right, but assured they were correct but when we started to taste them they got taken away as we were now told they were not ours? Secondly - after 1 hour, the correct meals arrived or so we thought - the steak and kidney pie was topped with pastry that looked like a white microwaved lump of soggy pastry, So we asked twice to talk to the. Manager but no one arrived so we asked for the plate to be taken away. The pork chop was ordered with fries but arrived with potatoes instead , No big stuff until we were told everything comes as it says and alternatives arrive separately ??? My wife dislikes boiled potatoes so why put them on the plate ?? All other meals were nice but it took two reminders to bring any cutlery and now over 1 hour wait ! Being familiar with managing staff we told each waitress it is not your fault but please can you etc etc. We now went to pay the bill and instead of expecting an apology from the red headed “manageress” we were told WE were rude to the staff ! We asked which member so that we could apologise but the manageress conveniently could not remember! This was the last straw, eventually a “ proper “ manager arrived., the chef we think, who we believe it the owners son. He removed a bottle of wine from the bill as a gesture to our complaints. All in all, this left a.very bad taste and if only a proper manager had arrived when we asked to speak to one all the complaints could have been avoided. The waitress staff and the guy behind the bar were very apologetic and very pleasant but you can tell when things are not right behind the scenes! The red headed manageress has a very poor customer attitude and cannot handle complaints. The staff maybe new but although willing to please and hard to retain, need to be better trained. As stated previously, we have eaten here many times before but this event has put us off for a very long time. July 24

It's our local, we always have a superb meal there. A bit busy in the holidays, but be patient, its worth any wait.

Got in just before the kitchen was closing but they rushed our order through and it was lovely. Highly recommended.

We stopped for dinner at the Ship Inn this evening and what a treat. The pub is lovely, and the staff welcoming. We had booked a table and so glad we had, as at 7.30 on a Wednesday night the place was busy. But we were served quickly, ordered drinks and then food. We had the garlic mushrooms and prawn cocktail and they were delicious (although they should give out spoons for the creamy garlic sauce). For mains we had a range of dishes, chicken with leek sauce (swapping out the mash for chips), a chicken burger and scampi. All we're piping hot and full of flavour. We'd seen the dessert menu, but we were just too full! Wouldn't hesitate to go back, just make sure you book! Lovely.

Lovely beer garden. Super reasonably priced and good honest British food. We had Sunday roast and liver+mash. If anything, ask for beef and liver medium rare, as ours were more like medium well. Anyhow will definitely visit again.

Recommended the Ship by a cashier at Aldi in Seaton. Called to book, couldn’t sit at 7 so deferred to 7:30. (For a Monday, always a good sign). Table ready when arrived, promptly served with drinks and gave our food order, Cod n chips (huge), liver,, chicken and salmon (all really nice). 2 starters, pate and mushrooms (again really nice). Bill price £95. Sat inside due to weather would have loved to sit in the huge beer garden at the rear overlooking the river, however the atmosphere inside was cozy. Service from the busy staff was great and I would highly recommend a visit.

Excellent lunch yesterday. One of the best Chicken Ceasar Salads I've had. Steak Pie and Curry was also first class. Very friendly service; good car parking; very nice surroundings.

Just had the seafood platter here. It’s £70 for two people. We actually ordered it between four of us and added three of the seafood starters to bulk it out. Was absolutely gorgeous. The dressed crab a personal favourite.

Very busy and recommend booking at the weekend The pub is dog friendly, with a beer garden as well. We had to wait for 15 mins after the waitress took our drinks order, then had to ask another member of staff to chase it up, not very good. But the food made up for this, the chicken escalope was delicious, plenty of fries and the creamy leek sauce was amazing, you don't see many pubs putting liver and onions on their menu, so I was pleased it was available, the liver was cooked to perfection, and the smokey bacon just right, the mash was so creamy . Maybe more staff training required I don't know if the drinks order was misplaced or just not processed but would visit again, so many choices on the menu, well done The Ship

Having been meaning to try this lovely pub out we eventually got there... The place was busy for a Tuesday inside and out, we didn't get in until 2pm but we're able to order food... Lady behind the bar and the young waitress were polite and friendly and the food was wonderful.

This is our all time favourite restaurant. The food is superb, beautifully cooked and presented. It's very much a family affair, a husband and wife team with one or other of their daughters waitressing. The surroundings are in what was the old court house and it's always warm and welcoming. We have no hesitation in recommending it.

When we arrived the car park was jam packed and so was the pub. I take this as a good sign on a tuesday in April! On entering the pub there was a warm welcome and we where warned they where busy and a slight wait for food. Never the less we where found a table and where seen to promptly. We didn't notice a huge wait for our order to arrive and it would have been worth waiting for anyway! Our food was lovely and service friendly and efficient. I highly recomend a visit.

We were staying in Seaton and the lady driver on the Tramway suggested this pub for a meal. We called in on spec on a Monday evening. We were given a table straight away. It was busy but our meal came within 20 minutes. Husband had fillet steak and I had hake. Both meals were superb. We enjoyed it so much that we chose it as the place to meet my cousin and her husband the next day! Again the food was outstandingly good. We all had fish. either sole or hake. Cooked to perfection. We indulged in puddings, mine was lemon posset. Wonderful texture and flavour. What more can I say ? The next time we visit the west country for a mini break we will be definitely be returning.

The plaice with tiny cold water prawns was one of the freshest and best I've ever had and the accompanying chips the best ever - crunchy and golden on the outside and fluffy inside. Delicious lemon Posset for dessert with crunchy homemade shortbread biscuits. I have worked as a professional chef and thought this food was outstanding, and really appreciated the relatively short menu - suggesting everything was freshly cooked. The service and the cask ales were great too. Outstanding. Will definitely be back.

Great hosts of an 80th party (Dispite a last min power cut ) reshuffled what they could offer from the kitchen with only gas ! Food was still lovely

Very poor vegan choices! We had 'garden' burger which was served on a dry bun with a bit of 'green', the absolute tiniest piece of gherkin and one slice of tomato (not sure if the bread bun was vegan?) ... the guy behind the bar was sympathetic but, even though we're locals, we won't be returning. Our friends who were with us had fish dishes; the fish and chips was small and just an okay meal! The fish pie was another 'ok' meal.

Just staying at Charmouth Clubsite and needed somewhere to have a nice meal . Read reviews and just popped in . Food excellent , service prompt and restaurant smart . We thought it was closed being a Monday and had a look in the Harbour Inn but didn't feel right and were heading out of area and noticed lights on in the Ship Inn so as I've said popped in . Well worth and deserved the average Google score of 4.6 which was the reason we gave it a try .

We turned up on spec and were greeted with a smile and an available table. Drink choices we good and the menu as a being proper pub grub with some fancy things just to be sure there was something for everybody. Our food was superb as was the service. A great place to dine.

Called in for a meal on a Thursday lunchtime and it was really quite busy. We managed to get offered a table for two plus our little dog was accommodated too. Really impressed by the menu and the standard of the food. Not only was it delicious it was presented very nicely and the staff were all very attentive and were working hard to please. Very pleased we popped in and would happily return when next in the area. Would highly recommend. Photo shows our meals although the veg came in a dish and we had already put it on our plates. This freehouse, more restaurant than pub was recommended by a local. Three real ales plus the usual kegs. Very friendly, good light lunch of starters. Great chips. The small village of Axmouth supports two pretty pubs. Doggy friendly. On site car park and attractive garden with country views. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Not sure if we went on an off day but the service was some of the worst I've received, ended up having to get our own dessert menus after asking twice and table wasn't fully cleared. Staff stood round chatting and not interested. Raisins found in every dish and pavlova stunk of fish? Used to be our go to pub in the area but prefer the Harbour Inn now

We went for my husbands birthday .The Ship has great menu choices so many family favourites and home cooked traditional food which was perfectly presented and tasted delicious & perfectly timed between courses . The meals looked amazing and tasted even better ! Hard to decide what to have as all so tempting but what we had was so tasty & plentiful. We had three courses and great value for money if anything underpriced for the quality . Thoroughly enjoyed our evening couldn’t fault a thing , and will definitely recommend to all our family and friends. Just Perfect !

We visited the Ship for a meal out with friends. We have been to the Ship many times in the past but the last time was about eighteen month’s ago. The welcome was friendly, with a warm atmosphere. The food was amazing, hot and very tasty, the portion sizes were big too. We all had different meals, I had three courses while my wife and friends had two. We all commented of how good tge food was.

After visiting Seaton…(never again)… We were hungry and looking for a decent pub and drove past and decided to stop…not sure if they would even be open let alone serving food. So glad we did, lovely food, very welcoming and excellent service. Very few people in, not surprised given it was November but a real gem of a place and could easily imagine on a sunny summers day the place would be packed. Absolutely recommend this pub and we all need to support places like this.

Called in here on spec on what was a very busy Sunday lunchtime, there was a table of 22 in the function room. We asked for a table for 2 with 2 little dogs, the lady dealing with us said she had one table but is was needed again at 13:30, it was 12:15, This was fine with us as we had already chosen our meals while waiting. We were seated and placed our order straight away. Drinks turned up followed by our food, the burger and ham egg and chips, we were not hassled,chased or pressured in any way, to assist I requested to pay the bill as our food arrived, the very friendly waitress came back with the bill and the card machine. The food was great, hot and tasty, even though we had paid the bill and the table was soon to be required we were still asked if we wanted a sweet of coffee. Excellent lunch,, Thankyou….

What a wonderful menu. So many choices. Tasted fabulous. Friendly staff. Good size portions. We booked as had two dogs with us too. Glad we did as obviously a popular place to eat. Regretted not returning the following day - we chose somewhere else for holiday variety and it wasn't a patch on this place!

A wonderful place which is very popular. We visited on three occasions during our week's holiday and were not disappointed. Portions were ample and there was a wonderful selection of meals available. There was also a great selection of beers. There are several dining areas, as well as a large beer garden. Service was very efficient and helpful

Had the most lovely Sunday roast here today with my family. Excellent menu and the roast dinner was beautifully cooked, and tasted fabulous.The nicest meal we have had in a long time with fabulous service. It’s not surprising you have to book here but it’s well worth it. Would highly recommend.

Yes, reviewing again... when it asks 'When did you go' why can't there be an option for 'every month'. This property really has it nailed and I'm writing the umpteenth super review only because we went on a Friday night and it was rammed... even full in the skittle alley (and yes, I DO remember the skittle alley). Not an issue though, exemplary service, usual super tasty menu - OK, we always stick to the same things but what is wrong with that? - and really, really happy on taste, service and cost. Excellent job as always - thank you!

I have visited the Ship Inn three times in the past year, as it is my favourite when visiting relatives. I have eaten the Belly pork on those occasions, its delicious. I have eaten other food on the menu over the years and always enjoyed it. So far we have always had excellent meals and pleasant service. I particularly enjoy the fresh veg selection with some meals. It does get busy, and also has an excellent garden ,and I noticed they were serving fresh pizza outside the last time we visited. We will return.

Happened to be in the area and decided to find somewhere to eat. The staff were very accommodating as the pub was fully booked from 7 that evening. Fitted us in. The service was exceptional. The local fresh scallops I had for main course were a delight. A lucky find but one to remember. Family run businesses excel where others don't.

Please could they serve food on a plate, not a wooden board? Very old hat. Whitebait went everywhere!!

With 9 of us, including 4 children, booking not far in advance we were pleased to get a table that fitted us all in comfortably. We were surprised at how busy the pub was. Pleasant staff, great food and good value. A good children's menu and not just the usual 3 or 4 items. Also a good choice of well kept beers, our orders taken promptly and food delivered timely. If we had found this place earlier in our stay we would have revisited and will definitely book again if/when we are next in the area. A smallish car park so we needed to park on the road nearby. This didn't detract!

I was very impressed with this pub. I has been renovated since l was last there nice and modern. The food was very good as was the service. The smell when you walked in was mouth watering and the place was very busy even on a Tuesday lunchtime. The staff we excellent and very helpful. Will definitely go back.

Visited this pub/restaurant twice whilst staying in the area, firstly for Sunday Lunch and then weekday lunchtime. On both occasions the food was plentiful, tasty and well-cooked. The roast was great and scallops and burger really really good. The location is excellent and outdoor space a bonus. Staff were attentive and pleasant. If you get a choice of where to sit, ask for the main pub area rather than the annex/function room. We were seated here for the Sunday visit and found it rather noisy/echoey and strangely soulless with no low-level windows despite the views outside.

Just brilliant! Last night we enjoyed a prearranged supper for a dozen friends who meet monthly. We were received by efficient, agreeable staff who couldn’t have been more obliging. The Lasagne was generous, meaty and tasty ( with a thick crusty cheese topping) served in attractive individual china dishes with a good helping of chips and colourful salad. Being farmers, with healthy appetites, we were delighted with the meal; the plates were returned spotless and everyone has vowed to return! P.S. We enjoyed an aperitif in the very pleasant, well kept garden… with a sunny outlook…. towards the river There was a good range of clean, comfortable well maintained.garden furniture. So glad this is our local!
