Carol and Don provided an excellent venue for a gathering after my mums funeral, the food was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend them for any function or party. Thank you for everything.

Great Sunday roast. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere, 2 cute dogs belonging to owner so is dog friendly for customers to. Outside seating area at front but dogs welcome inside too. Parking down the road. Nice pub all round.

Local pub, two pool tables, uno behind the bar and good variety of drinks. Friendly customer service, a few pub dogs which is nice, didn't get a chance to try the food. Kid friendly too.

Poped in on my annual holiday visit back to uk with two vintage tractors had a few pints of otter each very nice a few people but a good pub will try and eat when over august menu small but looks good

Such a lovely, friendly welcome. Staff beamed, drinks were good, but cook needs some help in the kitchen - keep the menu simple, and taste, taste, taste. Maybe just do only a daily menu - one starter, one main, one pudding - and make it right. Add choices when you get confident. Good luck - it's hard being a rural pub these days.

Had a very pleasant dinner here. They have a small menu and do it well which is the best thing to do. I had a very nice cottage pie. They have a good selection for vegetarians as well.

Great homely local pub. Bit of a tardis inside. Lovely, helpful staff. Fantastic food, great quality & loads of it! Plus served proper apple cider! Bonus was there was a great band playing rock/folk in the back room with a large floor dancing! Really enjoyed our visit. Would go back again.

Poped in one saturday lunch time was going in before to have food but didnt get around to it nice beer friendly locals did have football on which was good .anyway left as had to catch fligjt early next morning .will go and try the food nect timr

Fantastic local Devon village pub run and owned by a lovely local couple. Great home cooked food and a good selection of proper beer. If you're around the area pop in for a very warm welcome.

Friendly service. We didn't try the food but the specials board looked good. Decor quite tired. A lot of dogs inside and out.. if you like that sort of thing.

Cracking pub this. Great choice of beers lagers and ciders plus excellent home cooked food. Best of all are the friendly staff, and the sense of humour of the locals. Had a great few days here, popping in over Christmas. Thanks to Tom, Carole, Don and the rest of the staff for looking after us.

A village pub serving traditional pub grub of a good standard. Polite staff happy to help and welcoming. Very reasonable prices. Dog friendly and the owner's dogs are very well behaved. Would recommend and would return for a family meal again. Parking available.

The Six Bells Inn is an excellent country pub at the heart of the village in Payhembury. Carol, Don, Tom and the team are excellent hosts and whether you are a local or visitor you can expect a warm welcome, great service and cracking atmosphere. There is a range drinks with some local guest ales and cider available. The food is what you would expect from a proper pub, home made with all of the classics on the menu, from fish and chips, pie, lasagne, burgers, chilli, curry of the week and pizzas with your choice of toppings. The portions are huge and at a great price. If you can squeeze it in make sure you ask about the cheese cake. There are different flavours every week. Sunday Dinner is also a treat. Just as your mum would cook. Great roasties, Yorkshire Puds and gravy. We moved into the local area recently when the hospitality industry was bound by restrictions. The 6 Bells managed this well, with care, attention and still found a way to bring the hub of the community together. There are TV’s showing the rugby and football, pool table, skittles and dart board. Outside seating is available and the front of the pub is a sun trap on its day. The Six Bells Inn is highly recommended to all, whether based in the local area or on holiday. Oh yes, last thing, dogs are made very welcome!

Amazing pub with lovely family friendly atmosphere. Great wide ranging classic pub menu but always a great curry on the menu to provide a twist! Visited last week and had fabulous rump steaks and the chilli served in a large tortilla basket. Dom, Carol and Tom are really friendly, spending time to talk and make you feel at home.

Fantastic food and great service. My son even asked for extra beef.

We had sunday lunch here today, the food was great, home cooked with great Yorkshire puds and home made gravy. The cauliflower and brockley cheese was excellent. The staff were very accommodating, all all set in a beautiful village. So good, one of those meals you will remember.

We returned to The Six Bells after a 2 year gap due to COVID. Still the friendly welcome from Tom, Don and Carol and the food is still as good. Steak night Wednesday 2 for £20 good value, Sunday roast excellent. Well worth travelling the few extra miles to this friendly pub with good food . COVID restrictions being well applied we felt very safe. See you next year.

The guys at the Six Bells are doing an amazing job of providing a friendly and safe experience for all customers. Tables are well spaced, all the precautions you could hope for are in place and the food is as good as ever. Well done all!

We visited on a Saturday night early august for a birthday get together, what a lovely evening. The food was generous, well priced and cooked to perfection,(we had to pre order for a specific time) the drinks were ordered from our table and brought to our table,new glasses each time. social distancing and hand cleaning for staff and customers was excellent and the staff are really friendly and kind, you really feel valued as a customer here and safe during these current times well done everyone see you soon!

The Bar staff are very friendly and talkative to there customers. The gender neutral barman/barewoman are always a pleasure to talk to and very cool.

Cousin recommended it and he wasn't wrong. Perfect Sunday roast with best Yorkshire sampled in ages, just like me Mum's! Everything made and puddings to die for. Incredible value too.

Popped in for a lunchtime drink with my wife . Very welcoming and friendly pub with an exceptional barman who always brightens the day whenever you see him . He is helpful ,polite and considerate . The pub is dog friendly and everyone is up a chat .

Had a wonderful lunch with my wife and sister in law. I had not been here before and to be honest had no great expectations. However what a surprise, the menu was extensive for a small village pub and very reasonably priced. The three of us all choose the homemade cottage pie which turned out to be an amazing choice; there was plenty of meat the cheesy mased potato was really good with plenty of cheese and it came with a large seving of vegetables. The barman was very helpful and friendly which contributed to a good experience all round. The only shame was that none of us could manage a sweet. I will definitely retun to this pub again.

Had a great lunch here with friends, the food was excellent service was superb would highly recommend. Only negative it's in the middle of nowhere not sure how my friends discovered it but it's worth the drive out.

Had driven down from Derbyshire and ready for Sunday lunch. Certainly wasn’t disappointed. Beef or pork on the menu. Choose the beef and was pleased. Loved the gorgeous Yorkshire pudding, wanted a sweet but could not manage it.

Had dinner here tonight and will be back again. The food was lovely, good wholesome pub food and at a great price!

So good we went back a second time with more members of our family.Young man behind the bar was really pleasant and made us feel very welcome. Children are welcome too - we saw a highchair - and there's a kids menu. The Beef and Guinness pie was superb (I had it both visits). Others enjoyed the gourmet burger, lasagne and curry.

Had lovely meal on Wednesday night. Enjoyed it so much, we went back on Thursday with rest of family. Beef and Guinness pie was sooooo good.

Last night four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals at the 6 Bells. We would highly recommend this pub to anyone who enjoys a friendly atmosphere as well as delicious food.

Canadians exploring family roots in the village of Payhembury. Greeted warmly and served an excellent meal despite arriving five minutes before the kitchen closed. Tom, the bartender was very friendly and accommodating as we sampled different ales trying to make our choice. During our two week stay in Britain we visited pubs every day and our group of four was unanimous in picking the Six Bells Inn as our favourite.

Came last night and we both chose the Homemade Steak and Guiness pie, mine with potatoes and veg and the Hub had chips and peas. Pastry was light, flaky and moist, contents was rich and substantial. Gravy was thick and very tasty.

Stopped into the Six Bells for a lunch with a friend. We had moved into the area recently and wanted to check out the locals in the area. The lunch menu was good, typical pub food with a couple of nice alternatives such as a home made fish pie. The food was nicely served, hot and tasty. The prices were also very reasonable. We will revisit soon.

Catered for my friends requirements, only one option for her for pudding though. Roast on the sunday was average, shame the meat was heated in water.

Have been here a few times , the menu is excellent pub food , large portions and always piping hot and tasty. The staff are friendly and always have a conversation recommending and advising about the food choices . The prices are good and the service excellent. If I lived a little closer it would be my local, however it has become a regular place to visit. The Pies are to die for !!!

A very typical local village pub. But, do not let this disswade you. The landlord, staff and locals made my wife, myself and our 3 1/2 month bulldog puppy extremely welcome. The pub food was extremely good.

Lovely meal for the three of us. Each meal was piping hot, excellent quality, tasty and good size portions - lovely fresh vegetables to accompany. Staff also very friendly and getting to remember us as locals which is nice.

We organised my mums 70th birthday party and asked the pub to make us some chilli rice, cottage pie and a veggie curry which was delicious. Along with a bit of music a tournament of skittles and a side order of pool this was the perfect venue. They let us decorate the venue and were very helpful and friendly. It was perfect for our family who grew up on Devon pub culture, skittles and lots of booze!! I would strongly recommend. 👍🏻

We had a Sunday roast lunch and it was very good value for money. The bar was full of locals enjoying a lunch time drink and there was a good atmosphere. The landlord and his wife (the chef) were welcoming and friendly.

Twelve family members booked here for Sunday lunch and what a treat it turned out to be. We arrived earlier than expected but were made to feel most welcome. Our table was ready and we sat and chatted together over a few drinks before ordering. The choice was beef, pork or turkey or any combination of all three. We had roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings and six different vegetables (none of which had been frozen) to compliment the meat. The food was of the highest quality and the service impeccable - attentive without being ‘in your face’. The sweets were also wonderful. One of our members needed gluten free food and this was catered for effortlessly. The excellent food was reasonably priced as were the drinks. We could not fault this place and will certainly be visiting again. Full marks to the Landlord and Landlady for getting this so right. Thank you.

Spontaneous decision to go out for dinner tonight. Great pub, great service, great food. What s local pub should be. I would recommend this pub if you want great home cooking and enormous portions in a pub with a great atmosphere.

just popped in for visit on the old tractors it was quiet but landlady was very polite we had a couple of pints as wewere driving food seems good as i said before but didnt have time to stop as last time to eat you have burnley supporter there like me

Great village pub next to the church. 3 real ales all kept well by the friendly landlord. Nothing fancy but a great atmosphere and outside seating.

Can't fault the food or ambience of this great Village pub. There were 8 of us with one of those being vegan, all the dishes arrived at the same time and really good portion sizes, great value for money with most main meals being charged at £7.50. The service was excellent. This family run business deserves a visit. We will definitely be going back again and recommending it to our friends. 10 out of 10.

Popped in as we were staying local, the pub was recommended so we gave it a go, if you want proper pub with great food and local atmosphere then look no further. All the staff are lovely friendly and helpful they cater for kids and dogs with no problems.

Went to this pub before Christmas for a family meal, the food was amazing service was fantastic! The kitchen are very flexible with people with allergies especially celiac’s! New owners have done this pub the world of good it’s back to being a fantastic place to eat drink and socialise!!

Revisited today after more than a year. The new landlords , carol and don have only been there six months. Because of stomach surgery I find it difficult to eat a cooked meal, so I asked for a ploughman's lunch, which was not on the menu. Brilliant meal provided with generous cheese and ham portions. We were a party of four and all had something different. My husband can recommend the pie of the day (pork and apple) which was served with fresh vegetables and new potatoes. My friends had cod and chips and beef lasagne. We were all extremely pleased with our food and the size of each serving. Neither of us had room for a dessert. Do not know how busy it is in the evenings, but the lunchtime was quiet and we were made very welcome. It is worth a journey through the country lanes to enjoy good food in this pretty village
