Hungry Horse - Farmhouse in East Devon

This is a funny one and it kind of explains a little to me why reviews can be good and bad. We went to the Farmhouse 2 Weeks ago on the second day of our short break. Two adults and a teenager were well satisfied.Good food good service and seated straight away, the atmosphere was very casual and we left well contented. The following day we searched for places to eat but ended up back at the Farmhouse. We walked in and sat in the same seats as the day before, got the same service and the food came about 10 minutes after ordering it. The food we ordered was three different dishes than the day before. This time though the food was not to our liking, not saying that it was bad it's just in our opinion the first days choice was better. This is not a complaint and I would recommend using this place 100%. When we left we said how funny that was, for us to enjoy the food so much one day but not the next. That is why this is trying to be complimentary, I will not say the food is bad because I know it was good. Maybe my nose was too stuck up in the air and my expectations were too high. Apologies to the Chef and Staff.

Didn’t know what to expect for this chain of restaurants. Parking was easy. There was 12 of us but the food arrived well presented, hot and delicious. Will be revisiting!

We visit alot and have never had any issues. All food as ordered and staff very polite and attentive.

9 for Sunday lunch which we couldn't eat , raw veg spoonful of gravy the rest was dry . Ordered 2 ultimate candy mania deserts half of the stuff was missing as they had ran out but didn't tell us . Attitude of server was awful we waited half an hour between each desert being served and the server acted like it was her being put out . We spent a lot of money and it was all awful . Honestly wouldn't recommend

Son and I nipped in after work, he was ,peckish' so ordered two HUGE Godzilla Burgers on BOGOF deal. WOW if youre hungry then this will sort you out

The food came out quickly, it was warm but not enough gravy need to ask for more , but I was good value for the money, pudding was nice , but had to wait a bit for , overall it was a good meal , would go again

Brilliant service kids even had a free toy with their meals and we all had a great meal. Nothing to complain about and it was not humanly possible to write anything bad about my experience. Also the pricing was great, for 5 full meals it was around £50

The carpets were so dirty .....looked like not cleaned in years. Smell was also very bad because of the carpets.

Stay as far away as possible food was just slapped on the plate and was just warm , crown of burgers more like slap in on hope for best mini mix grill wouldn't feed a child and payed for two extra sausages for our dog so when they come out they were vegetarian sausages so told the server and he said the chef ( that's a joke ) states they were pork well unless it was a 1% pig and 99% grain and wheat it was a veggie sausage. Service well if having to wipe your own table and then just having your food plunked in front of you is service then they need retraining. Atmosphere well they were showing the football and there were families in having meals and the foul language was unbelievable and yet not a word said guess that's what buying beer gets you as long as cash in the till they didn't care...never again

Called in with the family. Good food, good atmosphere and good service, despite how busy they were. Decent pint too.

Popped in here for food with the family. Sometimes call in just for a drink. Always had good food and service, at great value.

Lovely place we found whilst away. Our server Ellie was lovely , attentive and made our experience great we will definitely return some day.

Arrived to find fryers were not working Had one drink then left

We ate here on a Saturday just before 6pm. It was fairly quiet, but there were lots of reserved tables, so not many spaces left. It was very busy by the time we left, just before 8pm. We had the £15 family deal, chicken new Yorker, tikka, kid's sausage and kid's fish fingers, kids brownies and an ultimate candy mania. The mains were fine for the price. The candy mania wasn't mixed very well, so not ideal for sharing.

Staff are friendly and service is adequate but the food was extremely disappointing. The jerk chicken was tough and very dry I assum microwaved Kids meal was fine but expensive for what you get. The chicken new yorker was tough and the chicken felt rubbery so wasn't finished the chips are of the frozen super market variety but was probably the best part of the meal. Will not visit again unless there is significant improvement in the kitchen

Visited the pub for a family birthday , rang before hand to find out if they have eating areas where you can bring your dogs , which they do. We arrived , to find out that the dog area is in an over 18 area and as we had my 6 year old granddaughter we couldn't stay and eat. Where is the logic in that ?

A party of 11 and I can honestly say it was amazing. The food was beautiful and every meal was how we requested it. The staff was very cheerful and very helpful.

Came here for a meal with my partner. Our waitress Georgia was absolutely amazing! Really well mannered and friendly. Food arrived fast and tasted amazing! Very friendly staff here and will definitely be returning here more often. Hopefully will have the same server again!!!

Me and my family met in here on a Monday for a drink and a chat. Ended up all ordering something off the £9 grill Monday deal and all very impressed with the food. Chicken was cooked perfectly, my family's steaks were perfect (one rare, another medium). Service was nice and not too intrusive but very receptive. One of the better experiences I've had at a Greene king in a long time.

Went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. I had scrambled eggs on toast, which was lovely. My boyfriend had the vegetarian breakfast, which he was very happy with too. Nice atmosphere. The pub was clean and tidy. The staff were lovely. Can't wait to return.

Was pleasantly surprised! Visited with family and ordered a £6 mean, the chicken New Yorker. Food was piping hot and fresh. All 5 of us enjoyed our meals!

Choose your meals wisely! Grilled meat was ok however the microwave technician oops I mean chef murdered the lasagna. It was just a lump of stodge with a very dry sorry looking salad. Kids enjoyed their ice creams.

Very good experience. Food hot and served quickly with drinks. Downside lots of children running around the restaurant out of control of their parents.

Monday was deals on grill night, but the grill was out of action and no fish. So left to work out yourself what goes in the microwave or the fryer. Asked for no ice in kids soft drink and to top it up, was told sorry it's measured and she only presses the button.

We visited the Farmhouse for dinner as a family. Food was lovely, brought out without a huge wait, it was very busy! Served by a lovely young lady called Alice. Very tentative. Would highly recommend.

Food was easly ordered and staff very helpful. Advised me to not use blur light as their deals were better and were correct. Food was delivered to table fast and was lovely and warm. Parking on site. Lovely atmosphere. Defo return if in area. Lovely pub for family's.

Meals from here was amazing brought the family here as we're on holiday here but not only the brilliant atmosphere and the staff from start to finish was perfect from being served at the till to the lady bringing our food out professionally and polite and friendly thank you for the excellent food and service The food tasted amazing and was presented amazing thanks to the chef aswell well done (sorry didn't take photos all round from start to finish 10/10

Visited the Farmhouse and was very happy with our food. Wait time was really good, service was great. Young lady named Ellie was very helpful and brought our food out. She was a well mannered young lady and was full of smiles. Will most definitely visit again when we visit exmouth.

Visited the farmhouse with family for drinks and a meal, what a lovely place to socialise, lovely seating area outside, amazing friendly hardworking staff. Food was hot and very good value for money. Child and dog friendly, overall a lovely place to visit.

I have had no problems with the food here and was always served with a smile. I recommend the mixed grill as always

Seen a great improvement here over the past few months. Not sure why. New management?! Really great today. Food tasty and piping hot, great service at the bar, great service at the table from Mollie and the rest of the team.

Great evening The food was lovely and Courtney who served us was brilliant. We had a large party but she managed with no issues. The food all came out in time and was hot. Great value and would definitely recommend

The pub was clearly understaffed as we had to wait quite a while to be told where our pre-booked table was. When we came to order they had run out of fish and chips and we were offered scampi instead. The meals took over half an hour to arrive and the scampi was very overcooked and contained very little fish. Other items our guests had ordered were also unavailable. Again, due to understaffing the restaurant was messy with tables not cleared. We will not return!

Excellent service from the hardworking staff at what was a very busy Friday evening. The food was nice, steak n ale pie particularly. The place was buzzing, but very busy. Nice meal

very pleasant staff, but only 2 of them and long queues to be served. San Miguel was good, but the food was truly terrible. Cold tasteless and lacking any flavour at all. There really is no need to serve cold food in this day and age. I can't ever remember ever having had such an awful meal despite having travelled all of the 6 continents. I would suggest you have an extra pint of San Miguel, then go and eat elsewhere

We went during the day when it wasn't very busy. Fast sufficient service. They had the football on outside, and as it was a dry day we were able to take advantage if sitting outside to eat and watch the football.

Olivia was amazing waitress serving out food very nicely bring us condiments and checking back thoroughly making sure our food was good enough. Jade and Courtney did the perfect.

Gone down hill. We've not visit for over 10 years. This pub used to be very nice. As we'd not been for ages we gave it a go, never again. No atmosphere, Our starters never arrived. Main meals were ok but only ok. Pudding menu small. Now if I was the manager I would of refunded the starters (which they did) and given them anyway as a good gesture with free puddings. New girl training on till needed more support. Waitress was quite bubbly. The whole place needs a revamp and staff need training in giving good customer service.
