This was a like finding an Oasis in the Desert. Wondering along Exmouth Beach with it's many restrictions of Building Works, No Entry, Boarded Steps and Rising Tide, how were we to exit? Then we spotted Fortes,(opposite the Lifeboat Station) but assumed under these restrictions would be closed, but No, a very friendly young man appeared and served us with Hot Steak and Stilton Pasties, which were delicious full of said ingredients, with equally delicious Pastry, followed by lovely Hot Coffee. I will definitely return soon(as local) and can Highly Recommend the Food and Service. Not forgetting the brilliant Sunset for a view. PERFECT.!! and THANKYOU.

Highly recommend this traditional family run pub. The Landlady is the hardest working person I have ever met and always with a smile on her face. She made us so welcome as did the locals. Lots of locals (good sign) and excellent menu. Not too fussy - just good traditional pub food. I had the sausages & mash with onion gravy with freshly cooked vegetables. Great desserts. We stayed overnight on a Devon Coast to Coast bike ride. My room in the main building was clean, fresh sheets and a bath!!! Essential on a bike riding trip! Views from the pub are stunning when the sun is shining. There is a caravan park out the back. There is cottage accommodation as well which is basic. I encourage you to visit and support them.

I love this pub! So friendly, you can talk to anyone in here, there is an everyday burger menu (the burgers are soooo good!) and then other pop up nights that are awesome too! Sonia, the landlady is super welcoming and loves to chat, this is a place where people go to interact with others, not just stare at their phones! Predominantly it’s a rugby pub, but they will put football on if asked. Other nights include pizza night, open mic, karaoke, live music and bands. There is a nice quiet beer garden out the back that has just had a lovely new decking installed. Well worth a visit if you are in high bickington, a proper country pub with friendly people!

I visited The New Inn last night in a group of 8 friends for our Christmas meal night out. The pub was toasty warm with a log burner going near our table, just what we needed on a wild stormy night! We had the three course Christmas menu and the food was delicious, and there was plenty of it! I had the lamb main course and there was loads of meat, and none of it fatty. My starter was spicy parsnip soup with bacon, also delicious, and for dessert I had the biggest slice of cheesecake I've ever seen! We were also given a palette cleansing sorbet in between the starter and main which was a lovely surprise. Would definitely recommend!

If you like traditional pubs, thatched cottages, and a really warm welcome from Mark and Teresa, your hosts, then look no further than the New Inn. You feel the warmth immediately you walk through the door. As you walk round to the bar you are greeted by “Captain” the parrot who is the longest serving resident at 40 years old. Being freehold, with no ties to any particular brewery, there is a wide choice of beers, ales and ciders and they're all excellent. The food is traditional country pub and is cooked and prepared by Mark and Teresa who do an absolutely amazing job. In my opinion the food being of excellent quality. Although I haven't stayed in any of the rooms I do know that they were all refurbished very recently and having spoken to people that have stayed the comments have always being excellent. Mark and Teresa always take time to try and chat with their customers and make them feel welcome. If you have any particular requests then they will always do their best to accommodate if at all possible. Another welcoming aspect is that they are pet friendly even having dog biscuits on the bar, free to their customers. A testament to their welcoming approach is the number of people from the local area that visit time after time. The impressive thing is that Mark and Teresa always manage to remember each individual's name. I can't recommend this wonderful, ancient, traditional thatched pub, highly enough. You won't be disappointed.

Just returned from a fabulous few nights away , the stay at the coaching inn was as always brilliant, fantastic hospitality from Jayne and the team , the food as always is great value , large portions, a range to suit most peoples tastes ( but you can always speak to Jayne and they will accommodate you ) and delicious. My Room was clean warm and cosy, with lovely en suite , a great selection of on draught beers/ lager and wines , again bar staff couldn't do anymore for you . The pub doesn't stay open as late as other local establishments , but I see this a positive, if your staying there you can have a lovely meal and plenty of drinks then retire to your room and now your in for a good night's sleep as the pubs quiet and not rowdy like other places I've stayed , and the icing on the cake for me was it's not overpriced or pretentious . Thank you so much I will be staying with you again.

Really good, well-presented food, served in a really pleasant atmosphere. The main 'Hardy' dining room, is big enough for large groups and was ideal. There is a well-stocked bar and a reasonable wine-list. But, the 'Stand-out' feature, was just how helpful and accomodating, that the staff were. We had lunch and breakfast too and they were great too. Brilliant for families as well as formal functions.

Very pleasant place to meet my girl friends for coffee and pastries too, but we wanted just a lighter lunch which was great and sensibly priced. I know they had teething troubles when they first opened, but now well worth a visit. Becketts cocktail and eatery bar is a real asset too for Exeter, with beautiful decor and views, so other friends have said.
