In February, I booked a deluxe suite for a three night stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary in June. Payment was taken on my debit card just four days ago, but when we arrived, the place was padlocked and a notice on the door stated that they were unable to provide accommodation "due to technical reasons". No phone call or email was received to advise me of this prior to arrival, so now seeking a refund. Also considering involving Police or Trading Standards re potential fraud.

Would choose zero out of five if I could. Booked this hotel nearly a year ago for my friend’s birthday to go to Badminton Horse Trials. Three weeks ago they cancelled my booking. I have E-mailed and called several times with no one getting back to me. Had to find another hotel last minute at greater cost. Don’t waste your money or risk booking with such horrific unreliable service.

In spite of having lived only a few miles from this pub for my entire childhood I had never visited it until this Mothering Sunday. I booked well in advance and received follow up texts and a phone call to confirm our booking which was reassuring. I had requested an accessible table away from doors and drafts for my 90 year old mum and were given a lovely table facing the windows. The staff were at full stretch when we arrived having just had a large party in, but they were professional and calm and got us settled at our table as soon as they were able. Mum had especially wanted a traditional roast dinner and I can say without hesitation that these were the best roast dinners that I have ever seen! They were sublime! Mountains of tender meat with perfectly cooked veg and all the trimmings. It all arrived in super quick time and was piping hot. We could not fault the meal or the service. We are already trying to think of an excuse to return. Thank you all very much.

We're just about to reluctantly check out of the most fabulous room in this beautiful place. We were greeted on arrival by a lovely friendly man called Dominic who gave us lots of information. We stayed in the King room which is beautifully cosy and absolutely enormous with the most amazing bathroom with a freestanding bath and a separate shower enclosure. We have 2 TVs in our beautiful room and 2 comfy sofas. The pubs location is ideal for visiting so many great places which can be driven to in less than an hour. Bradford on Avon, Bath, Glastonbury and Stonehenge being just a few of them. There is plenty of free parking here. Breakfast was lovely and beautifully cooked. We didn't eat here in the evening as we couldn't find a menu online so we booked somewhere in town. Having now seen their evening menu which had a good choice and was reasonably priced we will definitely eat here on our next visit. All the staff we've encountered during our stay have been lovely and we're already planning to come again. Absolutely fabulous. Can't wait to come back. Thank to everyone for making us feel so welcome and making our stay so enjoyable.

A very attractive looking old coaching inn in this slightly off the beaten track village, there is a pleasant looking courtyard at the front as well as a small beer garden at the rear. It looks to be quite a substantial size, although it also offers accomodation so not all of it is open to the public. We had hoped to have a bite to eat for lunch such as a sandwich and a bowl of chips, but apparently these are not offered. We do have some pub classics, said the friendly barman, and indeed the menu listed a burger or fish & chips, both at £17. Deciding we’d just settle on some crisps instead, we were again disappointed to be told that they only had peanuts and pork scratchings. It was a similar problem with the drinks – of three beer engines on the bar, two were unclipped and the third had run out. Ciders fared little better, with the Thatcher’s Gold being off, leaving just Orchard Thieves. I would have expected an upmarket pub such as this in a small rural village would have made a bit of an effort to stock something local (Honey’s or Iford, perhaps?) rather than something from a global conglomerate. Overall, a pleasant old pub and friendly staff, but the lack of choice on both the food and drink fronts mean I won’t be making an effort to return anytime soon.

Big expectations after reading the reviews, but just didn't have the experience we thought we'd get. Very middle of the road Sunday lunch, when surely that's the best day to go. Great location, close to Bradford on Avon, beautiful building but that's it. We've been here before but the constant changes of chef leads to a hit or miss experience. For the price we paid it should be better, just disappointing. Maybe good midweek but we'll go elsewhere for our next meal out.

Excellent service from Joe & Alaina who expertly accommodated my evening dining & drinking needs. They & the chef were kind enough to hang on, when I was delayed arriving by 15minutes at end of dinner service, yet still he food was delicious, not rushed, well presented & very filling. The dessert was absolutely divine. The pub itself encapsulates an old country feel in a charming building with a lot of character & a historic feel, but fuses with a modern dining & drinking experience you get in higher quality establishments. The menu had a mix of classics & bespoke options with a fine dining twist, to suit most tastes. The IPA on tap was one I had not come across previously, but was full of flavour & better than the usual fair in most pubs. The after dinner Cappuccino was very decent also. A good quality selection of spirits & wines from what I saw at the bar when arriving. The pub also appeared family friendly, but with very good separation between dining areas & tables. The weather was British summer best (rain) & it was dusk, so I didn’t venture to the outside area, but I would bet the garden is nice when weather allows. The Kings Arms is definitely worth a short trek to Monkton Farleigh from Bath or Bradford, to get away from the typical tourist trap & restaurant chain dining that is mostly offered in such places. Thanks to the staff & friendly locals for looking after me. I enjoyed so much am back there again tonight. 😊

My partner and I stayed here as a last minute booking because the place was dog friendly. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived and were shown our quaint little cottage equipped with a huge bed, courtyard, kitchenette and upstairs lounge. It was comfortable with enough space for the two of us and our small dog. For someone who usually prefers a firm mattress the super soft mattress provided one of the best nights sleep I’ve ever had. The shower was also really lovely. We had a wonderful stay and we’re sad we couldn’t stay longer! The breakfast menu was limited but the portions were big and delicious. I can’t fault anything about our visit. The guy who looked like he may own it/ be the manager was lovely as were the waiting staff….but the FOOD! The food was something else!! We went for the Ham hock terrine & mushroom Arancini to start and both were 10/10. Generous portion size and perfect flavour pairings. (the celery with the mushroom and parmesan is something i’m going to try back at home!l for sure!) We both thought the corn fed chicken, herb gnocchi, asparagus with truffle butter sounded too good not to try so we both ordered the same to avoid food envy and we both loved it! Honestly can’t recommend this place enough if you are wanting a treat or celebrating a special occasion. (as the food was on the more expensive side but worth every penny in our opinion.) We will be returning to try everything else on the menu for sure.

I Booked last min. I turned up approx. 30mins after booking. I walked in without my bags and spoke to a nice lady behind the bar and asked if it was ok to check in now, she said no problem but 'I'm not sure what room you are in but I'll sort that while you're getting your bags' which she and I did. All was going well, room was amazing! I got my laptop out and started to work. Then 20-30mins after arriving I get a knock at the door from the manager who asked to check my booking confirmation to see if I'd paid and that the lady should have checked. He then explained that I'm in the wrong room and that 'I' shouldn't have booked 30mins before arriving as the room isn't ready. He was rude and obnoxious and apparently this was all MY fault (he will deny that he was making it out to be my fault, he really needs to work on how he speaks to people)! He said 'this isn't a hotel, your treating it like a hotel'. Well sorry, I went on to a Hotel(.com) booking site and booked a room that was showing as available. Why would I think I shouldn't book it and that you'd only make a room up with a booking made (I did ask if it was ok to check in when I arrived)? He offered me my room in 30mins but by then the damage was done. I wasn't going to be talked to like that any further and asked for a refund to which he refused and said that I would need to go through the website I booked on. So I had to stand in the bar on hold whilst he bad mouthed me to presumably his boss who was obviously trying to talk him down because he tried to come over and re-offer the available room.I stay away for over 100 nights a year and I've never been spoken to like this before and have only cancelled a room on arrival once (staying for the gym facilities which were closed). So as the title, don't treat it like a hotel, and I would say don't treat it like a B&B either with that manager.Other than that and in the short time I was there I was really quite impressed with the place in terms of the room and bar and feel of it, however you'll not see me there again without an apology and a change in management.

On arrival at the Kings arms we were very happy with the ambience and decor, this however is where the satisfaction ended. We ordered ribeye steaks for our main course, mine arrived still bloody when I asked for medium, the waitress took this back and the same steak was reheated to be now well done. Both pieces of meat were so full of gristle and fat that we were only able to eat half of the 8oz steak. When explaining the issue to the waiter all we got was a 'sorry' and not even an offer for any compensation. At £17 per steak all you get is a very poor quality ribeye steak, a mound thin french fries and some lettuce, not what you expect from a meal of that price.Worst steak I have ever eaten, we will definitely not be returning or recommending.

I have been to this pub many times over the past 5 years as there are many good attributes. The location is excellent, the ambience is good with a mixture of both locals and guests. I have had a range of different items from the menu and it is fairly solid hence why I have returned frequently however I have been twice in the past couple of months and will be unlikely to return for food for some time. The last time I visited was for Sunday lunch with in laws. We booked for a late lunch. When we arrived at our allotted time (3pm) we had to wait at the bar for 30mins. Both in laws are elderly and there was no seating so they had to stand for this time. Eventually we had to insist we were seated, which resulted in a table of 4 being asked to 'move on', which made us feel uncomfortable. When our roast dinner was served it was cold and trying to get the attention of the waiting staff was not easy as they were focused on clearing up after an obviously busy lunchtime shift. The popularity would leave me to conclude that we were unlucky however given that we were made to wait so long I found the experience even harder to accept and rate them as Poor.

Dine here regularly now, more of an eatery than a pub to be fair, but then when your looking for a relaxed more informal dining experience, a gastropub/restaurant fusion, is just what you want.Always encountered friendly staff, good service and good food in the 8-10 times have been.

Located in the village on Monkton Farleigh, between the City of Bath and the town of Bradford on Avon this is a really fine pub. There is a good selection of beers, wines and spirits, and the above average food menu offers a wide range of dishes to suit all tastes. Highly recommended !

Excellent not able to find fault food, imaginative dishes esp the soft boiled scotch eggs; skilfully cooked fish and meat dishes and above average friendly non intrusive service and half price bottles of any chosen wine thrown in - currently special offer on Tuesdays! Great old stone built pub. Relief to know that on the third visit in 18 months it maintains its high standards.

Visited for Sunday lunch and few weekends ago with my family. The Kings Arms is just so beautiful and atmospheric. It was our first visit and we opted for the Sunday roast and home made chocolate brownies. Lovely food and good service. Will definitely return.A wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Stopped here for a quick drink en route to Cardiff. Very welcoming both to us and to our dog! Lovely warm fire on a cold day. We had a fabulous glass of their house Pinot and spent a happy hours reading the (free!) papers and just relaxing. We will definately come back but this time for dinner and an overnight stay!

We were looking forward to our meal as we have eaten here for years and have always found the pub good value with excellent food. Tonight , we have just had dinner for six and were very disappointed. My daughter-in-law had her favourite fishcakes and these really did not taste or smell right. We all ordered the summer pudding which had previously been excellent. Today there were only 3 left and these consisted of very sweet dry bread with barely any fruit or juice - really quite unpleasant. This pub has a lovely venue and hopefully this was just an "off" evening.

I live in a small village about 10 miuntes from this pub. When ever dining friends or family this place is usually top of my list. The building itself is charming and oozing with historic character dating back hundreds of years. Once inside the charm continues with beautiful decor and surrounding. The menu on offer varies from rustic burger and chips to locally caught fish and meats. I have never been dissapointed with a meal here and i have eaten here lots of times. Its not expensive given the quality of the food and surroundings your in. I cannot recommend the food enough. Also being a pub your not let down by the drink prices and variety (which is plentyful) As always the staff are friendly and well presented. Looking forward to be going back soon.

We stayed at The Kings Arms as part of a short break in Bath and The Cotswolds. I had stayed in hotels in central Bath before and been disappointed by the high prices and poor service. The Kings Arms was quite different - it was very good. We booked bedrooms 2 and 3. Room 3 was probably the largest bedroom I've ever stayed in. The open fire and free standing bathtub in the room were very welcome. The friendly service and half-price wine in the restaurant on the Tuesday evening topped off a very pleasant stay.

We visited as part of our honeymoon and stayed overnight in the ginormous room 3. Lots of hi tech touches despite the age of the building, fabulous service and amazing dinner, breakfast was brilliant too. This is a wonderful quiet place with a beautifully kept bar to stay a few miles outside of the hustle and bustle of Bath, although it may be much busier at the weekend than when we stayed. Only disappointment was we didn’t see any ghosts!

This pub is beautiful in the lovely village of Monkton Farleigh. It looks much more like a London pub. Nice mix of locals and visitors. We just had drinks (good selection of local ales). They didn't seem to mind that we played cranium at our table and a roaring fire to boot.

Just been for mothers day. Food was very good with good choice on the menu but it was not made clear what starters/ desserts were included on the set 2/3 course menu. When the bill came they charged full price for 3 course plus the dessert as it was not included in the set price, even though they tried to charge the 3 course price as well. We were a group of 11 too so the also incl a 10% service charge which is ok if u get good service. I.e explain the menu correctly and not try to justify double charging etc. If it was not for this issue the review would of been 5 no doubt.

We wanted somewhere local for an evening meal in Melksham & was recommended by the proprieter of Well House Manor where we was staying, we was a bit dubious as on tripadvisor it says this is 5*. The food was definately 5* without the 5* prices, the average main was £12.00, the bottles of wine was also affordable, I would definately recommend this for an evening meal, the staff were friendly & our waitress helped us choose the wine which was a good choice.

stayed in the Kings Arms - classic old world english pub with 3 guest bedrooms. On arrival @ 8pm after a very very wet day at the Ryder Cup we were offerd a drink whch was brought to our bedroom - a superb bedroom with all mod cons - flat screen tv , excellent bathroom , bathrobes and slippers ! We had dinner that evening in tye pub/restuarant - excellent . If considering going to Bath stay here for definate - a romantic base in the country yet only 15 minutes drive from Bath .

We visited the Kings Arms for a delicious Sunday lunch. The pub is in a very old building but is very nicely done out inside. Very good service with attentive waitresses. I think they are about to open some boutique B&B rooms too.The food was great, 2 courses for about £15. We had traditional roasts served with large yorkshire puddings and a side dish of vegetables. Pudding was apple and cinnamon crumble with cream. Good, generous portions.A very nice gastropub, well worth the visit

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.
