We had been searching Padstow for a nice, cafe that made Cornish cream tea and came across this tea room. We went in, and ordered 2 afternoon teas which was supposed to include a decent amount of sandwiches, scones, and obviously a pot of tea. We were served by a waitress quite quickly after we entered, and ordered. The tea and other drinks we had ordered came very quickly after ordering, however food took almost 40 minutes to arrive, and when it did, the sandwiches were not seafood, as you'd expect in a seaside area. They were ham and cheese, even then, after that, we were shocked to find out that (in total), we didn't even get a full 2 rounds of sandwiches - they were cut into triangles. Next, we moved onto the cake we chose and scones, we weren't full at all at this point. We started with scones, which were absolutely minuscule, even after we spotted a Tupperware box full with massive ones! But, we still ate the scones, not to mention that we only got ONE each between us. The clotted cream was very thick, and better than others we have had in the past, jam was nice; however we didn't have enough in the end. Once drinking the tea, we didn't know whether tea was unlimited, so we didn't ask in the end because the menu doesn't list anything to do with unlimited, which is appalling, for the price we paid. The cakes were ok, in hindsight would've chosen something different from fruit and nut, lemon drizzle was ok. After eating all that, we were made to pay !!£22!! in total, and we were still pretty ravenous!! The surroundings are very cramped, so upon leaving, my mum was by a wide open window and she joked 'I might as well just get out here', and then the woman who had prepared our food, was extremely rude and patronizing, and shouted across the whole (tiny) tea room, 'I wouldn't, it is very steep'. After that, we left and had McDonald's for tea, which was much better, and cheaper!!! Furthermore, we have had much better service and food for a reasonable price at other Cornish pubs and tea rooms.

Me and my family were welcomed by a lovely friendly waitress and enjoyed a delicious breakfast but when it came to settling our bill, the chef could be heard belittling the waitress and made her re-do the bill with us (all over 1 piece of toast!). The poor lady looked uncomfortable and even after we explained everything again with her the chef then came charging out to us and told us we were to pay for extra mushrooms and extra toast and extra coffee even though we had already sorted this with the waitress. We feel so sorry for the waitress, we won't be returning..

Compared to other cafes this was a little below par. Not a huge variety of cakes and portions a little small for my liking. The compact nature of the cafe was 'interesting', but prompted much humour and plenty of conversation with strangers.

The tea room is true to its name over-decorated with china and with a little too much furniture. The ladies take their time to produce excellent food. We wanted a light lunch and chose home-made soup and crab sandwiches. With a choice of bread, granary for us, the soup was very good, the sandwiches great. The final joy was the till that was probably 100 years old with a contactless card machine perched on the top - a wonderful marriage of old and new.

My wife and I have visited this establishment on a number of occasions and it is always a memorable experience. Eccentric doesn't quite describe the service but it is no place for anyone in a hurry as things get done the Cornish way, DRECKLY! There were only two tables occupied when my wife and myself arrived but it still took 15 minutes to get a drink and 35 minutes to get fed. My wife had a toastie and I had the chicken burger with chips and peas. Now I always assumed that a burger came with a bun, but obviously I was mistaken and too weary to comment on it to the waitress. To be fair, what I did get was very nice and it was all very amusing, but not a great dining experience by any means. The ladies who run the place are very nice and it is a quaint little place,so YES, we will go back, more in hope than expectation.

My wife and I were looking for some brunch prior to walking the coastal path up to stepper point when we came across this little gem. And when I say little I mean little. It's basically the front room of a house, but do not let that put you off!!! Inside is a little cramped but could easily be reduced by getting rid of the round table in the middle for a rectangular one this would allow more space. (if you're reading this Anthea) Anyway, the tea room is cosy and in a Victorian theme which is nice. The place was clean and appeared very well run. If you've read some of my reviews you'll know by now I need a gf diet and although there is nothing in the menu with regards to gf there are clearly options to have. I asked the server if they had any gf bread, they didn't but then I asked if I provided the bread could they toast it for me? He was more than happy to agree so I went back to the car to get some bread. As the kitchen was right behind us and it's fairly open we could hear the conversations amongst the staff, to our amusement when the gf bread arrived and the server informed the cook (Anthea) she told the server in a little flap "there's gluten all over the kitchen, you can deal with it" The server told her not to worry, he'll sorry it out and he washed his hands and the plate prior to putting the best on there. Nothing seemed to much trouble for the server, he was great, a credit to the business. I ordered an omelette and my wife the smoked salmon and scrambled egg. When the food arrived it was well presented and of a decent size. The omelette was lovely very tasty in deed, light and fluffy just how they should be. The salmon was standard but the eggs are light and fluffy both served with a side salad and toast (with individually wrapped butter for mine) The food was great the staff were great and the best thing about the place is its not a chain, it's run by Anthea, the staff care about the customers and take pride in the service given.I'd definitely recommend this place over others and I'll be returning next time I'm in Cornwall and Padstow.

We were met by a kind woman that attended to a group of 4. It's nice and quirky inside, makes a lovely change from the common big chain cafes I'm used to visiting. They also have amazing chocolate cake, honestly, some of the best I've ever had! And no complaints with the pot of tea. Great start! But, they've tried to cram too many tables into a small space to the point you cannot even walk in between the tables, please remove at least one. The mocha milkshake wasn't the worst milkshake, but could've been better. It was filled with Nescafé instant coffee, milk, chocolate powder and then filled up more with hot filtered coffee and left to cool, with the result being not too great. The scones had an "off" taste to them, the coke arrived with a glass with lipstick stains on it so we didn't use it.In conclusion, this place is a great break from the common cafes with lovely kind staff. Perfect for a small tea break and a slice of chocolate cake. But there's a room for improvement on the other items I mentioned and the indoor space.

We nipped in for Brunch whilst out in Padstow. It was very odd going in - like entering someone's front room.It was very small and a little crowded as we took a seat. There were two ladies quibbling in the kitchen - this continued through tour visit but was quite amusing. One of the ladies took our order after a little wait - I had a cream tea and my fiancée had the millionaires shortbread - both with coffee. The coffee was filter and everything was served in blue China cups and saucers and plates. The coffee and food were great. The ladies made such a fuss of everyone - it was so unusual - it was basically just like going for tea at your grannies house. You have to have a good sense of humour, and not expect silver service and you'll have a great time.

I'm still somewhat confused by what this place is trying to be. Although it's called the Victorian tea room, it takes me back to walking into my nan's parlour back in the 1960's with it's cramped assortment of hotch-potch furniture and mis-matched crockery, so perhaps more 1940's/50's era than Victorian. I think we visited Padstow on a bad day and time, well certainly if you wanted food, as many of the larger eateries weren't serving food due to staff shortages, or the pubs had stopped serving food at 3pm and were not opening up their kitchens again until 6.30pm. We stumbled across this place in one of the side streets by accident. I was entertained watching the staff dynamics, two very pleasant lady servers and a man who appeared from the back on a couple of occasions to screech his demands - "Anthea, I've told you to come to the front immediately when someone rings the bell". It was more like a scene from Fawlty Towers and quite entertaining, although a lady on a neighbouring table muttered how unprofessional she thought it was. In relation to the food itself, this was average and perfectly edible but nothing special. The sandwich was meant to come with salad garnish but this was more like lettuce overload and not much else. We felt prices were on the high side for what we got. We would have preferred to have eaten something more substantial but our visit here served a purpose in the absence of suitable alternatives.

This tearoom has potential but it is very, very small and filled with all types of ornaments that confuse what it is meant to be, some would say quirky but I would say muddled. The welcome is warm and friendly, the cakes good quality but the toilet is accessed by going outside and walking down the alley and past the kitchen, not great. It was all ok but in Padstow you really need to be better than that as competition is tough. Coffee is served in a china tea cup, a pet hate of mine, and a very expensive small cup of coffee as a result. It feels cramped instead of quaint, dark instead of cosy but the owners do try hard but I cannot recommend it and I definitely would not return.

Popped in for a cup of tea. Very small tea room. One other table was occupied when we arrived but another group came in shortly after us - they were clearly with the first group. The waitress took their order first (no problem with this) but then disappeared without taking our order. Various people popped their heads out from the kitchen but no one came over. The order for the other group started coming out a bit at a time and they continually had to remind the waitress of what was still missing. Eventually our order (two teas and a diet coke) was taken. Out came a normal coke (which was changed on request) and the teas. However, the tea was very nice. Fortunately, we were not in any hurry so the whole thing was amusing rather than annoying - it was clear the other table was of the same view! The whole thing was like stepping back in time.

Really lovely traditional tea room. A little gem. Lots of nostalgia and very welcoming. Just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the harbour area. Excellent cream teas served with a smile.

Situated a couple of minutes walk from the harbour, this is definitely a treasure to seek out.Loved this quirky place which is exactly how you would imagine a Victorian front room to be! It’s a little on the cosy side – lots of tables and chairs crammed in but it didn’t detract from the experience. The staff were very friendly and efficient and although we only ordered drinks, the experience was pure nostalgia!

We went to Padstow early one evening to look for somewhere not too expensive but nice to eat. We are quite fussy where we eat so having rejected a few along the front we turned up the side streets and found this little gem set back off the beaten track. As others have said, it is like sitting in the front room of a Victorian era house. There are only 5 tables so when busy it must be quite cramped, but fortunately there were only 3 other people in when we arrived. It is really quaint, with old nick Knacks adorning the walls and shelves and the plates and cutlery is of the same period. The menu is not extensive but has a good choice. The food on arrival was excellent, very tasty and hot .The service was very good and the two ladies were very chatty and pleasant. My tip would be to book in advance or arrive early as they close at 7pm. We got thrown out into the rain, (joke).

When you think of a quaint English tea room this is it, it was a beautiful day and we were lucky enough to sit at the table in the open window. My son wanted a Cornish cream tea so this is what we all had, tea in a China tea cup and beautiful fresh scones, best cream tea this holiday by far.

We went here the other day when looking for somewhere for a quick cup of tea. It feels like you're in an old lady's front room, in a quaint and cosy way. It was fairly busy which meant that people had to stand up at their tables to let us through to a spare table, due to the very limited space. The menu looked lovely and our cream teas were so tasty. Service, however, was not good. Staff were very unfriendly and abrupt. Based on other reviews we clearly caught them on an 'off day' though. I am not sure that I would go back, however, based on this fact.

This place is a B&B but as her house opens up with patio doors, it makes it into a quaint little living room for a lovely lunch or afternoon tea. We both had scones, jam and cream and tea. All lovely (although they didn't have fruit scones - only plain)

tucked away from the bustle of the harbour area this is well worth a visit whether for a morning cuppa, lunch or afternoon tea (we did all 3). Not a lot of space but well worth it

The open stable door to the Victorian Tea Room is a good invitation to step through, and we weren't disappointed. The toasted sandwiches we ordered were full and hot as was the tea. The cakes on the sideboard looked tempting but we had no room after the sandwiches (which also had a nice salad garnish). It is a small establishment, but they make up for that by way of friendly service, good food and good value. Also, the whole place looks immaculately clean! It's full of various china and artefacts which adds to the charm but must be a nightmare to maintain. Even the kitchen and chocker block cloakroom area was striking by it cleanliness. Well worth a visit and we will return.

Having have found this establishment which was empty as we entered we (a party of 7 adults and two children) sat and ordered drinks, no one wanted food and thus the order was complete. This apparently was not appreciated as when two other customers came in they were told in a loud voice - for our benefit - that they must order food as well as drinks. They then left. We were then stared at as if their looks might make us vacate our seats via telekenesis. The coffee wasn't bad, however, I probably could only have been made to feel less comfortable in their premise were I bearing news of a bereavement in their family.

Let's be honest it's pretty easy to find a good cream tea in Cornwall, and it can be hard to find a really great one. The Victorian tea room was a cut above most promptly serving delicious scones and a good pot of tea. Probably the best in the town centre in Padstow. The quirky intricate and (very) close-knit interior is interesting enough. Why not five stars? More cream per scone please - but then I am greedy when it comes to cream teas!

Just came across this true little gem, nearly didn't go in as farmhouse half door entrance made it unclear if it was open or not. Thank goodness we did! smashing little cozy ,dare I say, quaint, homely and comfortable interior. we were warmly greeted and offered a window table. My partner and I chose, the MOST fabulous fish pie, a delicious concoction, with a puff pastry topping. Fresh crusty bread and butter too. my partner had a pot of tea, and I had a fantastic old fashioned ginger beer.a lovely lazy late lunch, away from the more obvious Padstow suspects! very good value too.

I could not spend a weekend in Cornwall without treating myself to Afternoon Tea. This quaint and small little tea room in Padstow was a real find - it was just like sitting in a Victorian parlour. It is situated in a small side street just behind the main harbour (up the hill from Lloyds bank on Duke Street). The tea, scones, jam and clotted cream were delicious!

A couple of minutes from the harbour, it was a joy to find a lovely welcome, some good old fashion service and nicely prepared food. It was their first day open in 2014 and the first beautiful day after the storms Cornwall has suffered. As others have commented it's 'cosy' but don't let that put you off. We enjoy toasted sandwiches and tea and it was spot on. Lovely older ladies run the tea shop and what a refreshing change they made from surly teenagers who seem to work in the average establishment; not fair to generalise I know but sadly too often the case. We will definitely be back.

Having spent a relaxing afternoon wandering around Padstow, we had an urgent desire for refreshment and settled on this place. Not disappointed. Eating there was rather like visiting someone's front room from a bygone age; the place was (surprisingly) empty so we sat down by the window and duly ordered our cream teas. The jam cream and scones were excellent and my friends also ordered fruit cake and ice cream with chocolate sauce. Both very good! Only downside was that the place was rather cramped though this wasn't an issue given for most of the time we were the only people in the place.

This place is quaint and does not stand out. It is quaint and old fashioned with a wonderful collection of willow pattern crockery. It is small and cramped but so cosy and once seated very comfortable. It is like being in my grandma's front room and the front window was wide open onto the street outside. We ordered the three big breakfasts, one vegetarian, and you could hear them being cooked freshly. When they arrived we were all very happy, eggs fried perfectly, tomatoes properly grilled and soft without being mushy and lovely crispy bacon. Great pot of tea and toast. We all knew we would be back again. BTW cream teas were being served to the other tables and looked great, pity I was full. Great waiter who had come in for his breakfast and ended up waiting on us. Good atmosphere, very friendly and welcoming. One of the best breakfasts we have had in Padstow, and we have tried a few, without mentioning names!! Thank you and see you in April 2014!!

Went into the Victorian Tea Room mid morning for a coffee, very quaint and tiny, I think there were four/five tables in all but coffee was excellent and the best we had anywhere else in Cornwall, most of which seems to come from machines. As soon as we asked if we could just have a coffee the lady put on the filter and it was all freshly made in front of us. It is small as a previous review said but it's nice. We would have eaten but my husband requires a gluten free diet and they could not cater for him other than a pancake.

We were looking for a nice tea room for an afternoon tea in Padstow when we came across this little place. Sadly, though they were trying to get too much into a small space. We went in when it was empty so we were served ok. Very quickly there were 4 other sets of people in and it was packed -- chairs too close together -- difficult to manoeuvre chairs. We were happily placed in the window but it was painful to watch others coming in.

Went here with the whole family one morning in padstow after much walking around tutting at rick steins prices we stumbled on this little tea room that did breakfasts, the staff were wonderful food was even better nothing was to much trouble, when the lady realised my mother in laws sausage was missing she brought one straight out ( we hadn't started eating so nobody minded) and then because of that they refused to charge us for the teas and coffee and even threw in our little ones breakfast for free!Could not recommend highly enough
