Superb food and great, friendly service! Ana was very attentive, noticing from the across the room that we needed drinks before we even did! She made our evening so nice and is probably the reason we will come back to the hotel!

I ate here during my 3 day stay at the hotel and found the food to be good but the menu I found was limited if you are a pescatarian like myself but they do a great vegan burger. The staff were all friendly and efficient creating a pleasant atmosphere to dine in and the wine list was endlessly satisfying. The tables were also well spaced out so it never felt crowded or uninviting.I had the option of ordering from the menu or having a buffet from the theme night which was a good alternative option.

We came for my grandad’s 80th and the food and staff were all exceptional. They let us decorate the table beforehand with balloons and confetti and were really helpful with preordering. We were mainly served by Ana, but another younger gentleman also served us too. Both were so friendly, polite, and a credit to the restaurant. We were a large table of 14 and all of our meals came out at the same time, we’re hot and delicious. They even gave us a free bottle of Prosecco to help celebrate!

Slow slow slow…. Everyone was complaining. I ordered the squid and a burger. After 40 minutes I asked them to chase it up. My starter finally arrived after 50 minutes. No explanation and no sorry. The table next to me said I was lucky. It normally takes an hour for food to come. The two tables on the other side got the wrong food brought out and asked for some bread while they waited and waited. None came. No explanation. Everyone was making a joke of it. It isn’t a joke. It is appalling service

Stayed at the hotel and decided to do the burger night in the restaurant. Good choice of chicken, beef, lamb or falafel. Went for beef and the chicken which we topped with cheese and pulled pork. Except it wasn’t pulled pork in the stringy strip sense which was a same. All in all though the burgers were good.

Staying at the adjacent hotel as a solo traveller I ate in Brunel‘s Hat. It was actually very pleasant, the staff are on the ball and clearly recognise they are involved in hospitality, there was plenty of choice, and I went with the falafel burger. I enjoy this very much indeed, how long will the point of Boddingtons. Certainly not fine dining but not extravagantly priced and very pleasant. There appears to be not much around the hotel so unless you want to travel on an evening there is not much choice, but actually you will do perfectly well at Brunel’s Hat

Evening meal was good. Lunchtime was very poor. It was the same for both days. I got the impression that the second day might have been leftovers from the first, especially the puddings which were cold gateau/cheesecake type puddings that would keep for more than one day. The Breakfast was acceptable.

Had the set lunch which was great value with salad /meat bar and or soup, two roasts beef and or gammon with lots of veg - roasts, cauliflower cheese, monge 2, broccoli, carrots. The meat was very good and cut as I like it thick...desert was fresh fruit, lemon merangue, black forest gateaux, fruit mouse, apple pie - a good choice could have one or all! Staff very friendly and accommodating. Told me about Cookie card as my HHonors card seems to have died. Will be back as our best local roast so far.

Eaten here a few times when staying over. It doesn’t feel like a separate restaurant but more like an enlarged snack area . The food is expensive and bland . The cod in batter is small for £15 and the pork belly lacking any crispness. The waiters do their best but you can’t be running a restaurant seriously if you employ people to young to drink that don’t know one wine from another . Very polite and friendly team

Four of us pre-booked afternoon tea. The staff were friendly and our dietary requests were accommodated. There was plenty of food; each of us had tomato juice, three generously sized sandwiches and four cream/ custard cakes plus a pot of tea. The cost was £12.95 per person. The only negatives were that the tomato juice was too spicy and the wooden serving stands were so bulky it was difficult to see one another! My tip is to remember to ask for your free parking.

Having seen a recent write up and advert in our local journal regarding the re-branding of the Hilton to a Doubletree by Hilton and that they offered a Sunday lunch carvery we thought, let's give it a try. After the 3rd attempt of ringing the hotel on the Friday evening I eventually got through to a person that took my booking. Arrived at the hotel and didn't really see much change (not sure what we expected but with the re-branding thought it might have been a bit more upmarket with a sleeker service). Whilst the F & B Supervisor was friendly and the other staff were friendly, it just wasn't quite there to be honest. We went in to the restaurant and the menu was very 70's with several basic spelling mistakes. Anyway we ordered our starters which were nice enough and presented well. We made our way to the carvery, well what can we say - think about Toby carvery (not slating Toby as you get what you pay for there) well that was the standard on offer, not what you would expect from a 4* hotel. The meat looked dried up, in particular the pork looked like it was pork chops (not a roast pork joint). The vegetables and potato's had seen better days. Really dreadful. Now I know it wasn't expensive but do feel a major step change needs to be made in terms of the whole experience of just getting the basics right! When we came back to our table with our main course, our starter plates were still on our table. We were asked if we'd like our wine poured or would we just pour it ourselves, not the end of the world but perhaps the first glass could have been poured not least to be able to check the temperature and that it was the correct wine. We didn't stay for dessert as they didn't sound too exciting. We asked for the bill and to our surprise were charged over £16.00 for a double Hendricks and tonic, seriously, how can you get away with that? Maybe expect to pay that in London but not North Bristol! We appreciate Hendricks is a premium brand but come on! All in all, the staff were friendly but were just not quite there which was a shame as you could see they were trying.... As for the standard of the carvery, it is an experience we do not wish to partake in again......

I had the slow cooked belly of pork which was lovely albeit a little dry. Desserts were agreeable too. I visited this restaurant which is part of the Hilton Hotel for dinner. A fair choice on the menu and a daily special. Reasonable prices but much more expensive than eating in the bar area which is another option.Firstly I was standing waiting to be seated for about 5 mins even though the restaurant was not busy. The staff seemed to be serving meals in the bar as they shot past. I waited about 10 mins for my order to be taken. When you are a lone diner it is helpful to be served quickly or you are just sitting staring into space. The strange thing was that three of the other dinners near me were given the wrong main course. The lady next to me was eating her meal and half way through the waitress brought her a chicken meal and said "sorry I have given you pork although you ordered chicken". She then said it was because I had ordered the pork. The waitress then offered me the chicken! Two other diners ordered salmon I think and were given something completely different! When my roast loin of pork finally arrived it was a good sized portion but a bit chewy. The wine however was good. The staff were friendly. Overall a strange experience.

Visited for an office Christmas lunch and was bitterly disappointed at the lack of Christmassy feel.No Christmas music playing, very few table decorations not even a Christmas cracker on the table which was a shame as the actual food menu was good with ample choice for everyone. Our booking was spread over a few tables within 'booths' so we asked to relocate to other tables which we could be together on - that wasn't a problem but we had to move the tables, cutlery and glasses etc ourselves. When asking about Christmas crackers I was informed that they didn't provide them - this did surprise me.As it was the first day of the festive lunch with only two staff on I feel they were not organised or perhaps not informed of the lunch arrangements or perhaps the nature of the new festive lunch deal. All that said, the food was good and self service which was nice and a good choice. As we have been in touch with the hotel after our visit, I am sure other parties will find the Christmas spirit.

The place was incredibly rowdy with very large tables of groups from business functions. Took a table as far away from the noise as possible (not possible). The waitress then informed us of the things that were already unavailable (1 hour into dinner sittings): no apple pie; probably no steak. Really? In a Hilton Hotel. As we had spa access, two were under 18 and I was driving we opted for the soft drink option instead of the sparkling wine. Afternoon tea arrived, all sandwiches contained butter (I had rang prior to let them know one of the party didn't like butter). After checking this they brought out an extra tray of sandwiches. Cakes weren't very plentiful and wasn't overly impressed with the quantity. We've had afternoon tea at several other places over the last year and this was the poorest by far. The starter, smoked haddock, was really rather disappointing and quite tasteless, so was very pleasantly surprised at the Pork Three Ways main course, which was absolutely excellent, although the pork belly was not crisped so very fatty. I think it's expensive compared to other places of an equivalent standard, but we had vouchers as hotel guests which made it well worthwhile. My family were staying at The Hilton and we decided to eat there one evening as it was an easy option. I don't know the details of the price paid as there was some kind of special deal on for hotel guests for a three course meal. I've therefore given the value an average rating as I've referred to the prices on the menu, which I think are slightly on the high side but not extortionate. The service was good - waiters were generally very polite. It was very slow at first getting drinks, however we were warned that it would be busy and could be somewhat slow. We did also have to wait a little while to be dealt with when we arrived (by the lady on the front desk). Once we had received our starters, the service seemed to speed up a bit. Being a hotel there was a real mix of people in the restaurant, and it was full. It did feel a little strange as there was a group who were having their own (private) buffet and so were helping themselves, there was a large birthday party which was very loud, and there was a basketball team who were very casual. So although it was quite a formal restaurant (the waiters were especially polite and formal, some even wearing gloves) some things were a little disjointed from this.Anyway we really enjoyed our meal. The food was really tasty, well presented, and fresh. There were two vegetarian mains - I went for the pasta and it was very rich and generous. Sometimes these places can skimp especially on veggie dishes, but this was great. The asparagus starter was lovely too. The rest of the group enjoyed their respective meat/fish meals. For dessert I had chocolate ice-cream which was just ok. It wasn't as well presented as the other desserts and was a little bit plain, so perhaps they could jazz up their ice cream selection to match the mains which are more interesting. The ice cream was relatively basic (vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry). But perhaps they have done this as an option for any children diners.I was happy with the quality of the food, along with the general style of the restaurant as I think it caters for a more 'special' or formal meal if that's what you're after, and would definitely go back in future if I had family or friends staying at the hotel. I would probably leave it a while for the menu to be changed as it would be nice to have more vegetarian options. The only other thing worth mentioning is that the car park is chargeable after 2 hours. I don't believe they should charge for the car park for hotel guests (it should be £5 a day) but that's a separate issue!

We were staying at the hotel and decided to try the restaurant out especially as we could use our Gourmet Society card, and wow are we glad we did! Compliments to the chef for producing a great menu and wonderful tasting dinner. The food was beautifully presented and full of flavour. I had the smoked duck, pork three ways and the honeycomb and caramel parfait (heaven!), and my husband had smoked haddock croquettes, sea bream fillet with coconut and king prawn risotto (fantastic!) and passionfruit creme brulee. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal and must say probably one of the nicest meals out we've had out in a long time. The service was also very good. We definitely will be returning to Brunel's Hat - even if we are staying at another hotel nearby.

Went here with a Groupon deal which provided excellent value. Surroundings are nice but, given it is a hotel restaurant, you will be sat with lone business diners playing on laptops/ipads. I had steak and my wife had lamb and both meals were great. In addition we also ordered starter and sides which were quite expensive but very tasty. The deal included a glass of wine which was ok but small. Would visit again.

We were only going to eat in the restaurant one night of our stay, but it was so good we ate in there both evenings! The Service is excellent and the menu choice is varied. We would recommend it.

We have been to this hotel on many occasions & have submitted previous reviews however we have not been since its "Make Over".We are delighted to say that our trip was not dissapointing at all simple lovely. The new decor is fresh & modern perhaps not to everyone's taste but the food was lovely. We were there to celebrate my wife's birthday & she was made to feel special from the moment we walked through the door. Met first by Lucy on reception & then Amy our waitress dealt with all our needs for the rest of the stay. The menu is good, plenty of choice right through from starters to dessert & we both thoroughly enjoyed everything.& nothing was left on our plates.Would i recommend it, yes without a doub. It's a good restaurant so expect to pay a ilittle more however you can find deals online that will make it a bit more affordable, so for a special occasion or simply for a treat just go do it.We wanted to pass on our thanks & they were well received by the Duty Manager Gerd Ludvig & will look forward to going back sometime soon.

Just been on a table pouncer deal to this resturant, didn't know what to expect but boy are we glad we dined there.Used a table pouncer deal 50% off all food, starters crab cakes x2, mains rib eye steak and lamb Wellington followed by sticky toffee pud and the strawberry bomb all of which were great and could recommend.Couldn't fault the staff who were very attentive, the only downside is its a little too far out but we'll worth a visit on a deal.Thank you all for a great dining experience.

With very good service and the Gourmet card meant we could afford it. Very quiet on a Thursday evening so we were able to relax and enjoy it.

Three of us had our evening meal here (two courses and a glass of wine with a Travel Zoo offer). It was a fantastic night, service was fantastic, restaurant was really lovely and much nicer than it looks on the on-line photos. On-line it looks a bit gloomy and dowdy but it’s actually really tastefully decorated with perfect lighting that offers ambient lighting while delicately illuminating the food on the table. Not all restaurants get the lighting just right so 10/10 to Brunel’s Hat. It also had a nice feel to it, busy in an active way but the staff were not dashing around, which always makes me uncomfortable when that happens.I’d probably give the food a seven/eight out of ten, which is far better than we were expecting from an ‘offer evening’. My Pear and Roquefort Tart Starter was my favourite dish, it was flavoursome and beautifully presented. The Crab Cake starters were lovely but needed a little more Salsa Sauce than the drizzle for presentation. My Mushroom, Goats Cheese and Spinach Filo parcel was really nice but by half way through the dish, the flavours were just too full on. I think it may have been nicer to have had less goats cheese inside or maybe a softer creamier flavour. Also you definitely need a side order with this dish (which fortunately I had ordered as they are only £3), it came with two tiny new potatoes. Please, don’t see this as a negative comment, I’m sure I’m way too fussy. My husband ordered the Duck Wellington, which he said was fantastic. We all ordered desserts, Crème Brulee, Sticky Toffee pudding and Bread and Butter pudding. Nothing wrong with them at all, probably on par with desserts at other local restaurants and good value for money.Don’t be put off by the car parking charges as the parking ticket is cleared by the venue when you pay the restaurant bill.In truth we’re quite local and would have never even considered booking at this restaurant before but now it’s no lie to say we’ll be back with other members of our family. Thank you for a lovely evening Brunel’s Hat.

We had an excellent meal which we bought with Travelzoo (2 courses). Everything was excellent, the food and the service which was efficient and friendly. We did not stop at the 2 courses and we were not disappointed as the desserts were very enjoyable. We would certainly consider going back to this restaurant.

Never had dinner here as the prices high and never saw anything on the menu I fancied. With having the car wasn't too far from Cribbs and there is plenty around near by to find something to eat. But I did have the breakfast here and well...The kings of cooked breakfast; self service hot and freshly cooked.

The food at this Hilton Restaurant is close to Michelin Star standard, very well priced and a nice atmosphere, only let down by slow service from a waitress with less than average language skills, although to be fair her English is better than my Polish!

My in-laws were staying over night at the Hilton and asked us to join them for dinner with our two children. The restaurant has now been renamed Brunel's Hat rather than Chandlers. When we arrived at the restaurant it was relatively quiet however my in-laws had been told that it was expected to get busy. We were quickly seated and provided with menus however it took 25 minutes for our drinks order to be taken and a further 10 for the food order to be taken. We had opted for the deal in which you could have either two course for £18.95 or three for £22.95. The choice was ok with some choices having a slight supplement for £5. The presentation was good and the portions large but I would only describe the food as average. Had we not been utilising a deal I would have been very disappointed had we been paying full price. The restaurant got busier and the service slower, at one stage we had half the table cleared away and waited another 15 minutes for rage rest to be cleared away. However the staff were very pleasant but I feel that there should have been more staff serving.

My Family and I went to have Lunch with Santa on 11th Dec 2011. We had a 3 course Roast Turkey Lunch with tea, coffee and mincepies. Afterwards the children met Santa, had a gift from him and danced at the disco. A professional photographer was present to take a few snaps, if desired, for a very reasonable price. What a lovely afternoon for such a reasonable price. We loved it and will be back next year!!

Just had a family lunch of 11 of us. The service was impeccable, the variety of food on offer was sufficient and different from usual pub fayre with very tasty curries. Biryani was full of flavour, with good vegetarian and children's options. Trad Sunday lunch excellent with fresh veg. The staff were so friendly and attentive on what was a very busy day. Decor and cleanliness tip top. A real pleasure, we were looked after very well from start to finish. Prices reasonable too, although the desserts may need to be rebalanced between cost and quantity. A lovely lunch for all. Thank you. Steve + 10

Take a punt on the Grumpy Griffin. It might be your lucky day but then again you might regret it. A mixed set of results from customers. Mine was negative. No real ale. Only a few peeps on Sunday mid-afternoon and one was drunk as a Lord and seemingly spoiling for trouble. Background music was fine. Quality tv showing a premiership game. Just cider, lager and Guinness on tap. Feels like a local pub where others are not made welcome.
