The Crown in South Gloucestershire

La struttura è davvero molto bella, con arredi caratteristici da tipico pub inglese. L'ambientazione sembra quella di film natalizi molto molto romantici. Il cibo abbondante e buono. La stanza per dormire molto comoda. Tutto il personale è stato estremamente gentile. Assolutamente consigliato!

Rooms were very good. There was a bit of noise from the road but nothing to worry about. There were 4 of us and the ones who had steak were very pleased with it, another had the vegetarian burger which was very good (although there was no side salad, just burger and chips). I had the pie of the day (beef and mushroom) and was disappointed with it because it came sitting on what looked like steamed spinach, the only vegetable, so it went very soggy round the bottom plus the gravy didn’t appear to be “real gravy” although I was assured it was.

Been done out by Butcombe and looks so much better. The food looks great and it has a really cosy feel to it. Good sized car park and is situated just off the motorway on the way into Bath so a fab location for a 'pick me up' meal. The cakes are great too!

The smell of stale cooking oil greeted you on arrival. We would have left had we not arranged to meet friends. 3/4 meals were poor.Two were just warm the third was greasy and had a taste of burnt oil. I will not return to this venue and will be put off going to another Butcombe pub. The manageress was attentive and gave us free coffee and did not charge for the two dessert we ordered. However we still had a bill of £73.

We stayed here for two nights B&B over the weekend. The room was lovely. Comfortable & warm with a great walk in shower. We ate in the restaurant on Friday night & the food was good . Staff are friendly too. We had breakfast both mornings, I had eggs Benedict which was ok but the eggs were a little overcooked. My husband had a full English breakfast for which we had to pay a supplement of £4.50 which we were surprised about. Had we not been guests, the breakfast would’ve been £22.50…..& although it’s a nice breakfast, it’s not worth £22.50. There’s no toast rack, no juice & no cereal offerings at breakfast……we could possibly have asked for these but probably would have been charged extra. The cleaning ladies came into the room & made the bed & replenished the hospitality tray with clean cups & cookies etc which was lovely. No extra toilet roll was provided though so we were left with just half a roll ….again we could’ve asked for another & would’ve been given one but we felt it should have been obvious to the cleaning team that another roll needed leaving. All in all , a good stay but there’s obvious penny pinching which is unfortunate .

Busy Pub/Restaurant lovely inside with a comprehensive menu i had the Pie of the day, which was delicious and my wife had the Rump Steak which was delicious rally enjoyed the evening and experience Although it’s on a busy main road easy to get in and out off Will call in again

Amazing gluten-free food, absolutely great service, Russ was so lovely and even remembered us! We felt spoilt, welcomed, and very well cared for indeed. Thank you, Russ and team.

A little disappointing in comparison with the last few times we have stayed at this inn. The accommodation is beginning to look a bit tired and there was no heating on in the pre- booked rooms when we arrived so they took hours to warm up. Food also had a few let downs e.g hard poached eggs at breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful though.

We stayed overnight after visiting Dyrham Park. The room was cosy, clean and comfortable with good facilities. Fresh milk was available in a flask and we liked the addition of ground coffee & cookies. Friendly staff, good food & service. The pub is on a busy road, but this did not affect our sleep. A bit difficult to get out of the junction in the morning, but it is convenient for the Bath and Bristol area. We would stay again. Thank you.

This is a lovely Olde worldie pub, only draw back is getting out on A46 can be difficult during daytime hours however the menu is exciting, service is excellant. Reasonable prices. Crazy atmosphere

We ate in the pub with three children and three adults. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. The service was attentive and there were no delays.

Came on a busy Sunday lunch without a booking and they very nicely squeezed us in! Food & service were both superb and a great atmosphere! Would definitely recommend!

What a great inn from the 16th century. Very cozy atmosphere, very tasty food and loving staff. The rooms are in the neighboring building, extremely well equipped and very stylish. Every room has access to the outside, like a holiday apartment. Lots of parking space in front of it. The location is also very good, close to the M4. Bristol and Bath within easy reach. From there I also took a day trip to Cardiff and the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales. I felt very, very comfortable there!

Convenient meeting spot for lunch along the M4. Very friendly service. I found my steak small, for the price. It was tasty, though a bit overdone for me. I did not complain as it was still a good steak. Would still come again, and would recommend. Lunch for 2, with soft drink and coffee was £80.

I enjoyed an excellent one night stay here. Everything was comfortable, great food at dinner and breakfast. The staff are friendly and helpful. Easy, plentiful parking, accessible rooms makes for a very relaxing stay. I would not hesitate to recommend the Crown and look forward to my next visit.

Really good food, with a good range, and friendly service. A sign in the car park asks you to register your license plate number at the bar but that wasn't working when we visited. Be careful when rejoining the main road because it gets busy. A cosy, traditional environment. Booking highly advisable because it's a popular place.

Nice environment when I arrived at 7pm it was cold so I put the radiator on which was fine but it should have been on already we all had the fish and chips I felt it was too greasy but the service was nice £ 86.00 for three of us with a £ 20.00 birthday discount so quite good value as we had a desert and a few drinks as well

We had a lovely lunch at the restaurant on 16th October. The service was great, drinks were served quickly & the food was outstanding.

Had a lovely meal tonight as always. The pie was delicious (chicken and bacon) and I even got to try the crumble from the new menu which was so yummy. Lovely hotel, nice room, however the pillows could be softer and fluffier, but a comfortable bed. The food was great.

Exceptional service and wonderful food.

We have stayed 5 nights and we only have 2 things that could be improved. One is the noise of the bathroom extractor, which lasts about half an hour if not more, and the other is the breakfast. It is very English, and for them it is great, but there are those who prefer a little more variety: fruit, yogurts, bread with oil and sausage, homemade sweets from the area. Anyway, for the rest, the service, the dinners, the unbeatable environment. We had a lot to see and we will definitely return. Thank you for serving us. Regards

Met friends there for dinner there on a Monday evening , exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff, nothing was too much bother but the y left us in peace to chat, appearing to offer more drinks at just the right times. The food was good pub grub, nothing too fancy but genuine, well cooked pub food. Its also a very convenient location with ample parking

Rooms were clean beautifully decorated and the bed was comfortable the staff were the most helpful and charming I've ever had the good fortune to meet

Great lunchtime visit with 2 nieces, staff were attentive and friendly and my food was delicious. Dog friendly,which was good for one of my nieces and overall a very pleasant, friendly atmosphere.

Needed a good location to meet close to M4 and this was the 3rd time I've been back in 6 months! Lovely home cooked styled food, friendly staff and reasonably priced. I'll certainly be back for a 4th visit!

Place was great. Great service. Very friendly. Food was fantastic. Loved that the rooms were separate from the bar and very quiet. Only negative was that the pillows were rock hard and we could feel every spring in the bed.

We took our anniversary trip to the UK and Ireland and I can honestly say this pub & inn was the one of the highlights of our trip. It was our first time away from our kids after 6 years and it was the perfect quiet retreat. We felt at home immediately and when the weather was cold and rainy we would just stay at the inn because of how comfortable we were. The food is incredibly. Absolutely incredible. I’m hoping to come back soon

We pop in for lunch sometimes as the pub is just off the M4. Allways exceptional food and a very warm welcome. Lovely.

We love stopping at The Crown in Tolldown when we are travelling east from our home in South West Wales. It is a really convenient pit stop just off the M4. The food is always tasty, plenty of choice at a reasonable price.

We had a most enjoyable stay at the Crown Inn. The people are really nice, helpful and friendly; efficient service. Great breakfast. Had dinner in the restaurant twice, good meals both times. Interesting menu. Room comfortable and clean. Decent bed. Fresh milk available daily for tea/coffee. On the down side, WiFi in the room was on the slow side and required regular reconnection. As an older person, with creaking knees, getting in and out of the shower in bath is a challenge. A handle on the wall would be appreciated to assist the process. Otherwise, the shower was a delight, powerful with loads of hot water

Went here for my birthday meal. Team are very friendly and attentive. My roast dinner was delicious. They are dog friendly too :)

A great pub for friends get together

2nd time visiting the cown inn and we just love this place,the food is top notch,breakfast is 👌 all the staff and manager kirsty are great,so welcoming! Cant wait to come back at christmas 😁

Lovely place, so friendly. Female on her own with business and felt so welcome. Even had a croissant delivered to room in the evening as I needed to be up early and would be missing breakfast.

We were visiting Dryham Park and Bath Races. Excellent location for both of these places. We didnt stay over due to us living only approximately one hour away. The service and the food were excellent. We have a Butcombe pubs locality card which gives you 25 percent off food on a Wednesday however I would eat there any day. Keep up the good work.

Had a lovely meal here at The Crown. Good choice of menu including lots of GF options. The best thing for my husband is the GF beer too. Service was excellent . Have visited before but the friends we met had not and all very much enjoyed their visit

Met with some friends who live across the west country and the Crown provided a very convenient central point. The food was excellent and the service very friendly.

Absolutely awesome food, great gluten-free too. I'd been saving up my calories all summer, it was so worth the wait, the fish is the best around, by far! Lovely service. The servers were so so nice, really knowledgeable and even knew to not bring me out malt vinegar. I'd placed our order online, they knew all about that, and we had our coffee in a quieter bit, absolutely nothing was too much for them, what a great place. Thank you.

Too many dogs, service slow. A bit overcrowded at peak times. Food good and not too expensive. Good selection of drinks. Location ok but a bit isolated.

We had one of the cottages which was quite spacious with a super king size bed and a great shower. The breakfast was great and the server Izzy was excellent

Very nice lunchtime meal… the fish and chips with curry sauce was particularly excellent! Dish came out very hot and fresh! Would certainly recommend. Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Been several times before, will look forward to the next!

Lovely place to stay. I was in the area in business and wanted somewhere close to my destination. A few to chose from but I got it right with the Crown. Lovely little place. Rooms are clean and comfy, free parking. The pub was welcoming with a great menu and a great choice of beers and drinks. If I’m that way again I will definitely stay there again over the larger chain hotels.

We stop here regularly en route from the motorway to home, south of Bath. Staff are always genuinely and friendly. The Sunday roast was very good and the portions generous. Special shout out to the lovely Hannah who always has a smile on her face.

The room was lovely, very clean with excellent furnishings and a very good shower. Accommodation is in little cottage style rooms away from the pub which are excellent. The staff were all wonderful and very friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent too. The perfect place to stay if you are visiting Bath or the surrounding area, I would recommend getting the park and ride at Landsdown into Bath - very convenient and reasonably priced. The pub is on the main road so bear that in mind but it didn’t bother us and we will be back! Thank you team for your hospitality and a lovely short break.

Such a lovely and warm place to stay… caring and friendly staff, superb and cozy rooms, great furnishings and very clean. Just off the M4 but located in the countryside makes this a quiet place to stay. Cottage-style rooms in a separate wing were ideal to rest and relax in a friendly atmosphere. Breakfast and dinner were tasty and nicely prepared. Great place to be!

I travel a lot, spending up to two weeks a month on the road. I have to say, this is one of the best hotels I've stayed in. And trust me, I've stayed in a lot. The first thing that struck me, when I arrived, was the very pleasant welcome by the staff. The evening meal was of a high standard. I had the Malaysian seafood curry. Finally, the my room was very nice. Like a showroom, to be honest. I was really impressed with the attention to detail. Ground coffee. Staff gave me a flask of milk, rather than 4 puny milk capsules that is never enough for 3 people. Lavender spray for the pillows. Ear buds. Not that they were needed A DAB radio, along with a smart TV. I don't tend to return to the same hotels I've stayed in. But I return to this place, when I'm staying in the area. Highly recommended

Not a great experience. Staff were very casual and unprofessional. Food was adequate only and overpriced. £14.95 for prawn salad, soggy lettuce and tomato - it looked and tasted as if the salad had been prepared sometime before serving.

Lovely meal at the Crown Inn, Tolldown. Food quality and service was excellent as usual. This was first time we stayed over and the accommodation did not disappoint. The breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day. We will be back soon!

Overpriced. Rather like a motel but with hotel prices. Out of time rooms there were issues in each. Meals and drinks were very expensive but not equally very good quality except for breakfast which was excellent. Staff are overworked.

This was the first time we'd visited in many years following the recent refurb. The pub looks great - cosy and inviting with relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of parking around the back. The food was tasty and a good choice, although we did need to buy fries as a side to make a substantial meal as they're not included in all mains. Prices fairly average for the current time. Our server was great - friendly, efficient and informative without being intrusive. We will definitely visit again. Can't comment on rooms as we live fairly close by but the little lodge rooms looked nice from the outside and would be a good base for walkers and close to drive to Bath / Castle Combe etc.

Nice welcome, lovely room and bathroom with some nice touches like a cafetière, bottled water etc. Great dinner and some good craft beer. Breakfast main dishes gave plenty of choice but cereal, fruit, yoghurt and fruit juice were not on offer which was a little disappointing. Having said that the breakfast dishes were tasty and well presented.

The best thing about this hotel is the staff and the customer service, everyone was extremely professional, helpful and friendly, and the communication about the booking was 100%. The hotel was nice and cozy, and rooms were comfortable and clean, and the restaurant was good. The only downside to the hotel is the location so close to the A46 into Bath, it was extremely noisy with road traffic all night. Sadly as a light sleeper I would not rebook a stay at this hotel.

Another fantastic leisurely lunch in The Crown, excellent service, Excellent food and I'm almost converted to low alcohol bitter by the very tasty version they serve.

Lovely rooms, spacious but cosy and warm feel. Bed & pillows were super comfy. Little details that really welcomed you, great beverage selection and upon checking in I was asked & given fresh milk in a small vacuum flask.. heaven. Even a little scented pillow spritzer next to the bed. I was actually shown to my room which is rare these days, the staff were super smiley and helpful. I could almost park outside my door and when with a dog, this is really helpful. I found dinning as a solo traveller with my dog very comfortable and the food on the whole was good but the risotto had issues.. The location is just off a busy main road but that was not a problem with night noise and I found a lovely across-field trek about half a mile down the road.

We loved our stay at the Crown Inn! everything was amazing. Rooms are beautiful and clean and food is delicious. I loved the fact that pets are allowed and the prices worked out as great deal so we will definitely be coming back!

I met a friend for a drink in this pub, couldn't believe a week later I get a parking fine for £100!! I didn't see any parking costs as it didn't enter my head I would have to pay to park!! Absolute rip off, I work for minimum wage, cannot afford to pay this. Place is best avoided if you ask me.

Great lunch stopping off on the way from Wales to London. Just off the M4 so couldn't have been easier. Dog friendly with doggy snacks and attentive staff. Our fish finger sandwich and steak sandwich were great.

Stumbled upon the Crown enroute to Heathrow airport. Absolutely brilliant, will definitely drop in again.

Stay & Dinner Easter 2023 was superb, stay & dinner Easter 2024 was utterly different experience, starter - rillettes - oil dipping from the bread, main - fish and chips, oil dipping from the batter, dessert - brownie, completely burnt black colour, rather "blackie" than brownie, was thinking of rillettes but put off since the cook couldn't obviously handle deep frying! For the room, room carpets wet upon arrival, shower waste blocked allowing 3 minutes shower max. Sorry guys, not coming back for Easter 2025.

Very disappointed in the follow-up of this establishment. Friends and I ate there one Saturday a couple of weeks ago and both of us who had the same meal ended up getting very sick afterwards. I rang the Crown Inn the following day to let them know what happened - where I was assured the manager would be in contact, but I've yet to hear from them. I can't fault them for anything else but getting sick from the food served is something I feel should be taken seriously. Would not recommend on that basis alone.
