Fortes Foxholes Kiosk in East Devon

Came all the way from Manchester to meet up with a family friend and the weather was not great so we found this place just beside the car park near the lifeboat station.what a fantastic place! Small and cosy with the most friendly staff and the best hot chocolate ever p perfectly priced.It has a take away as well and I’m told the ice cream is very good.Well worth a visit!

Lovely experience the staff are all experienced and friendly. The bacon bap was one of the nicest I’ve had, lovely coffee and perfect location.

I would like to say the food is amazing and the best ice cream in exmouth. Always look forward to seeing the lovely ladies smile everyday, keep up the great service.

It would be nice to be able to put on a review but as it seems this establishment rarely opens on time it is not possible. Not for the first time today we arrived at 10.15am to find the shutters down so we went elsewhere.

Not cheap but good quality food and drink at this cafe on the seafront. They even did a take away cream tea which was scrumptious

We went to order ice cream from here. We were ordering for 8 people and it was a bit chaotic. But Erin was genuinely lovely and even when we got our order mixed up and ordered the wrong thing. She just took in her stride, smiled and just gave us what we felt and thought was FIRST CLASS service. So we had to give a 5/5 never mind the fact that the ice cream was top notch several lovely flavours to choose from.

Visited here on a chilly February afternoon during a stroll along the seafront from Exmouth town centre. Greeted with a friendly smile and Hello, which is always welcome, ordered two hot chocolates and a selction of Cannoli The hot chocolate was velvety and superbly warming and the Cannoli tasted amazing with creamy filling and a crispy outer. I would highly recommend the short stroll to visit here.

Regular visitor to Exmouth as swimmers all year round. This cafe do the best Hot Choclate anywhere and great Millionaire Shortbread. The couple running it are very good.

I called in for a quick Latte and was tempted by the sausage rolls!!! Excellent coffee and very hot, excellent sausage rolls, really upmarket and I assume homemade, also very hot. Very pleasant sat in the outside area on a lovely day Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant

Great food made to order. Service could be quicker and with a bit of forward thinking this could be a snappy little place, instead there is always a queue and on a hot summer's day you could do without the long wait. However, the food is good quality and almost worth the wait!

We stopped off here for a coffee whilst walking across the beach front. Lovely customer service and the drinks were hot and tasted delicious. Beautiful views across the beach too...perfect!!

Visited while out walking our dogs, the wonderful guys were so kind and caring! We ordered some ice creams and coffee and everything came in a decent size! Also managed to snag a dog ice cream for the pups which they loved! Couldn’t recommend it enough!

We had heard about this place from a friend of ours and weren’t disappointed. We got there mid afternoon for some ice creams for our young children and were met by a long queue. We could see the young staff working like clockwork and credit it to the manager as they’ve obviously got things very organised. We were served quickly and efficiently and paid a fair price for ice cream on the beach. Would recommend this place to anyone.

I came to the sea front with a couple of my friends never been to exmouth before but i found a great ice cream shop. There was so many different flavours to choose from, all sounded amazing. The prices were very reasonable and would definitely come back here again if I was in the area. The staff were so friendly and professional. I would extremely recommend this place as I thought it was great.

We have visited this cafe before and were not impressed but thought we would give another try......well wish we hadn’t bothered.Ordered on large tea , one large coffee and a panini.....well was asked twice was it small tea,coffee repeated no large,coffee was made before I was asked if I wanted hot or cold milk in the coffee,so far not too bad you may say.Took the tea and coffee to the table and waited for the call for the panini to be ready,my husband had finished his tea by now so went to ask where the panini was and was told it was just coming,then I had finished my coffee still no panini and when you see people getting their food which had been ordered after you,you do then start to get a little concerned.I then went to the counter to ask where my panini was and got a blank stare and asked what number I had been given well there was no number given so I got my money back as by then our car park time was running out,there was no apology for not getting my order.Don’t think we will visit this cafe again,the thing to remember that one we are local and two we would not recommend to anyone to go there,the management need to have someone there to take charge of the very young staff as they obviously don’t really know how to treat customers.

Came here Easter Sunday after seeing this place on itv news, although it was very busy the service was very quick and staff were very friendly and polite. Ordered food which was very reasonably priced and came very quickly, there is also a lovely little gift shop situated on the side of serving counter, there is large variety of flavours, spoilt for choice! Would definitely recommend and will return.

It just takes too long to get served, I only wanted an ice cream, and it took a full 30 minutes. It's clear when you get to see the girls working there's just no system. Man in front of me ordered 4 ice creams and that took a full 5 minutes. Twice making this one simple order the girl disappeared out the back. Whatever is out there that's so essential should surely be at the front where it's needed. Cone, scoop, ice cream, money, it's not that difficult, but something here ain't working so well. Nice ice cream, eventually though.

Came down here on a windy Sunday and was so thankful to see Foxholes was open - none of the other places were! The two girls who served us were so friendly and helpful when helping us with allergen information. We ordered two coffees and two pasties which came promptly and tasted wonderful - just what was needed on a chilly day! Will definitely be coming here again.

Staff are absolutely lovely, very chatty always greeted with a smile even in busy periods. Always have such many options for ice cream, which taste divine even in the winter months.

Bought 5 ice creams (2 wafer cones, 2 Toberlone ice creams and a Maxibon), should have come to around £12 but got charged over £16! Didn't realise straight away and then when we did it was too late! You just can't steal peoples money like this!!!! Stay away from these rip off merchants!

Have visited this kiosk twice now and each time have been greeted with such miserable faces from the girls behind the counter. Each time have said about a slice of cake to be told sold out or I think we've sold out but not sure,why not cross off what you have sold out of,maybe even make a suggestion on what you do have available that would be a gesture but say it with a smile.

Always park up here and have an icecream in the summer or a warming coffee on those bright winter days. Times do vary when the peak season is closed. Brilliant little kiosk serving drinks and refreshments. Located on the seafront close to the lifeboat station

Stopped here to get a bite to eat with the family, excellent service and lovely lunch. We had paninis and cheeseburgers which where extremely tasty and reasonably priced. Just a shame I had no room for an ice cream. Definitely recommend.

Always go into this lovely & well cared for family business!! Very impressed with the positivity that is within, the food is something that you could never complain about.. to top that off the service is very quick!! This cafe is at a great location right by the sea front. My first impression was that it was lovely and clean with a great atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and friendly even though it was busy, was nice to feel so welcome. The food also exceeded my expectations it was tasty and filling. Visited here to get a quick bite to eat and a drink whilst at Exmouth seafront. The food was enjoyable and reasonably priced. Would have been nicer if the staff were more interested/friendlier. It almost seemed that customers were getting in their way by wanting to place an order. Wouldn't make any special effort to return here if in the area again.

It was a beautiful sunny day on Easter Sunday and we had a lovely walk along Exmouth beach , only to be spoilt by a coffee stop at this cafe! The woman who served us was rude from the outset, audibly tutting when we placed an order for four, yes four drinks (2 large cappuccino and 2 flat white) stopping the order mid sentence so she could get a pen to write it down!! It took nearly 20 minutes to get said drinks and when we did, whilst hot, they were coloured milk at best! And to top it the price of £3.05 for the cappuccino and £2.80 for flat white! I've paid less in a classy tea room! Once drunk there were NO bins to put your empties! There's lots of lovely cafes along the sea front at Exmouth - try one of them instead of this one!

The sraff were very efficient and told us there would be a 20 min delay with food, especially chips, my son ordered then I ordered and there was a 40 minute wait then my sons food arrived 15 /20 minutes later the rest of the order arrived, by this time the first bits ordered had gone cold. A lady who ordered 20 minutes after us got served a good while before us I suspect because she said she wasn't going to wait any longer. .Lovely gift shop attached

I visit Exmouth a lot and use these premises for ice creams and treats for all the family, on a regular basis. It's a real shame that on this visit the clearly irritated staff member (young girl) was very impolite and rude in front of myself my children and other members of the public which is a extreme disappointment. The unhealthy attitude towards me was just uncalled for and think she really needs to learn, 1, some manors, and 2, some customers service skills. As it was just totally inappropriate. I understand that in busy times, staff do get irritated and flustered but service with a smile is free, so are Manors and 100% guarantees retuning customers.

We happened upon Fortes when visiting Exmouth beach for a couple of hours. The owner (mother with her daughter) was very welcoming, served delicious local ice cream and was very pleased to let me browse her shop. WARNING - many beautiful gifts are inside! Be prepared to treat yourself and others! Emma Bridgewater (usual price) beautiful scarves, tins and bags (very reasonable £ for an independent) drape across the shop making it difficult to narrow your choice to a sensible amount if you're like me and LOVE gorgeous finds such as Fortes! I was reliably informed the website is being built and online will become an option in the future (we are from Norfolk so that is very welcome)! Enjoy a coffee, refreshment, browse at your leisure! I wish the business owners ever success, they were thoroughly nice people.

Came here with my family during half term and I must say I was absolutely astounded with the politeness of the girl serving - she was so accommodating to my dietary requirements. The business itself clearly has an owner who puts a lot of love and time into the place, in regards to the beautiful Emma Bridgwater China they offer! The ice creams we had were most delicious, with the selection being rather impressive. Overall a wonderful seafront cafe and my family and I will most definitely be coming here again!

I recently came here with a couple of my friends after walking our pooches on the beach. Have never been here before however my friends and I decided we'd stop for a coffee.It was fabulous! Fortes do a superb cup of coffee! The staff were extremely kind and attentive. The building is in a lovely location which provides indoor and outdoor seating. The day we visited it was a glorious sunny day so it was very nice sitting in the sun. Very lovely experience. Will Definitely be visiting again.

Beautiful day, great place to stop for a coffee or an ice cream after walking on the beach. I would suggest some umbrellas outside on sunny (and rainy) days.

I would like to say how impressed myself and my friend were with the service we received at this cafe, the assistant who served us was very helpful, nothing was too much trouble and the icecreams were delicious. We will definitely be returning again to sample some of the other products on the menu, because the food we saw being served to other customers looked lovely and well presented. In my opinion well worth a visit.

Having visited Fortes once before for lunch, it had to be a cream tea on this occasion. The choice of scones had me falling at the first hurdle but hubby helped me out by suggesting he had plain and I the fruit! Both were very fresh and scrummy. What a treat too as everything was to be served on Emma Bridgewater crockery with a plentiful teapot. The staff were friendly and attentive and we left feeling full and happy! Of course a purchase or two had to be made from the lovely array of giftware (Bridgewater included) beautifully displayed on the dressers! We intended to finish off our afternoon with an icecream from the vast array of flavours - over 20 I think - but that will have to wait for next time as we couldn't fit one in! Thank you Fortes.

How can you possibly have a beach side cafe and not sell pastys!!!!!!! Overpriced and disappointing !

As I was strolling the lovely sands of Exmouth recently, me and my wife stumbled across this wonderful little café. It was a beautiful day which could only be bettered with an ice cream!! We were faced with an astounding range of flavours, so much so that we couldn't make a decision ourselves and had to ask for a recommendation from the very friendly staff on hand!! The two flavours we received were cherry pie and custard and rhubarb crumble and I have to say it was the best ice cream I've ever had!! I also noticed the Emma Bridgewater range (which my wife loves by the way) on the dresser at the front counter - a lovely addition that has made this place a new favourite of ours. A deserved thumbs up and we are looking forward to our next visit!!

Lovely spot for coffee or snack however if you sit outside your drink will be in a paper cup! Its a great view & seemed to be popular for ice cream.

i walked away from this cafe in disgust but happy This time.t was a joy not to spend my hard earned money.on two smile less disinterested unhelpful couldn't care less bad attitude lads, that seem to find it offensive being interrupted by customers.. The two lads would both benefit from a hospitality training.or move over, let the right ones who understand good business ethics run it.. Others would give their right arm to own such a place and be happy to have sales. Considering they have the privilege of a superb location it should be a the best. in every way... As owners/managers /staff whatever,they should do their best to meet greet smile and serve us all with pleasure , We as local customers would enjoy that,and then be confident that they then would go on to welcomed our tourists and visitors to the best seafront in East Devon .it would also be appreciated if they were open more often than they are shut.

As a local person I have visited most of all the other cafes in Exmouth at one time or another and i must say that this is the one of of the nicest in town, even at their busiest time in the summer the food and the service has always been excellent , the staff efficient and polite. I visit the seafront often to walk my dog and have often stopped at the cafe to buy an ice cream for us both, i cant recommend Fortes foxholes more highly, Ian huxtable

We were attracted to Foxholes initially by it's fabulous location right on the seafront and before entering we had no idea what treasures were to be found inside!My husband and I both chose the Chorizo, cheese and pesto Panini and I must say they were absolutely delicious as was the coffee. Staff were very efficient and friendly and the whole place had a great buzz. There are dressers filled with Emma Bridgewater pottery and great gifts which were a feast for the eyes and I will definitely return to make a purchase or two! Any excuse to try a different Panini.Of course we couldn't leave without trying an ice cream which was the hardest decision of all as there were so many to choose from. Our visit was a perfect seafront treat and we can't wait to visit again. Thank you.

Lovely place, there is a super café here, with great freshly cooked food. You can sit down and eat inside or buy food to eat outside. Comfy outside chairs and tables. Right beside the beach. Friendly staff. Great ice creams too. Super gift shop sells some fab things like Bridgewater china and other lovely gifts as well.

My husband and I always try and call into Fortes whenever we're visiting friends and family in the the area. We like to break our journey with a stop off at Fortes, for coffee and a light lunch. We both had cappucinos and the paninis, which were piping hot and delicious, and the staff always have a friendly smile and are nice to chat too. We always find it excellent value and it is always spotlessly clean. I think this must be our forth visit this year! Keep up the good work Fortes!

Went to the beach in Exmouth with my partner and son and fancied some coffee. Ordered a cappuccino for me, ice cream and squash for my son and a cup of hot water for my partner: She has ME so always brings her own speciality tea-bags. The highway robbers wanted to charge me £2.50 for the hot water. I had to turn away or I'd have lost my temper with the young girl serving. Needless to say I refused to pay that exorbitant price for a cup of hot water. I will never part with my cash at that place ever again!

Awful customer service and expensive. We queued for 15 minutes in the cafe to order and were ignored by the teenage staff who had little interest in customers. After a grunt of acknowledgement, we were told that takeaways were from a different equally long queue. A paltry panini and a few crisps for 6.95.The burgers looked like slabs of rubber and there were plates of food left behind which gives an idea of the quality of the food.Avoid if you can!

I've recently travelled from my home in Manchester to the lovely Niche town of Exmouth. Me and my family of four are staying at the Devon Cliffs holiday park. The first day of our holiday we travelled down to the beach where we discovered this lovely business. The variety of ice creams, hot food/drinks is incredible and to accompany all of this is the gift shop situated next to the counter. We would definitely recommend this place as it caters for every individual person and the service is frequent and the staff are very competent. We will definitely be returning for the duration of our holiday.

When visiting Exmouth this summer I was suprised with the ameinities down on the beachfront. This one stood out in particular. Although it was a sunny few days and the beach was heaving, I was able to get an excelent meal for my familly and finished off the day with icecreams, a big selection to choose from! All in all good service with excelent food. Will reccommend.

Saturday 8th August 2015Came down for ice cream on my daughters birthday as they have over 20 flavours and it was a very busy, sunny day. The staff were wonderful and gave my daughter a free birthday ice cream, you don't get that too often these days. Would definitely recommended a visit there!

Had take away on sunday 9th August. The two boys serving could not be less interested. Very slow. Queues building up, but they did not care. No management in sight. Not good.

With regards to the above post, Fortes do not do fish and chips, you must have the wrong cafe!! However they do the best coffee along the seafront and the staff are polite and well-mannered! Lovely place, they even do Emma Bridgewater china!!:)

We bought a range of paninis and sandwiches. They were tasty and served with a little fresh salad. Plus they do a wide range of ice cream flavours.
