Staff were very lacking in knowledge about what soft drinks were available and said we have soda water . Couldn’t be bothered to check . I had mixed grill . It looked the part but that’s where it ended . It came out on a board with paper on . A peppercorn sauce and a sharp knife just meant I was eating paper . I asked very nicely if the waitress could take my dinner away and bring it back just on a plate . She came back out with a plate and said theyre u are I had to do it myself. Which was not easy having to man handle chips etc . As for the food the steak was cold , the chunk of gammon was so salty i couldn’t eat it . The ribs tasted freezer burnt and the sausage was disgusting. I am a bit of a sausage connoisseur and my family was so shocked I’d left 1/2 of it they wanted to try it to see how bad it was . If they take one thing from this review get rid of the paper it is not necessary and adds nothing to the eating experience. My mother was the sensible one she had fish and chips and removed the paper before eating but that wasn’t an option with my dinner .

The staff were friendly and very accommodating we were a large group of 15 people. We had starters and mains from across the menu. The food was cooked perfectly and the staff call out our names when they brought the food this was ideal as it made sure we all had the correct meals. I’d like to thank the staff for the great evening. I can honestly say I’ve never managed not to finish my plate of food however here we had so much food we all had leftovers and couldn’t manage pudding. We’ve visited The Yew Tree several times since Wayne & Theresa took over (and their previous place in Drybrook before that too). We’ve had breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday dinner and have never had a bad meal. Today we rang to see if they could squeeze us in at very short notice and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. The food (two roasts - one beef, one turkey, cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets and a kids chicken goujon burger) were, as ever, delicious! The prices are great and the portions are extremely generous. The service was fantastic, with the lady behind the bar expertly leading the young waiting staff who were so courteous and professional throughout. 10/10, would highly recommend visiting!

Booked 1 night bed and breakfast. Room nice had everything you would need for a night's stay. Went to the pub for dinner. I had what was described as a vegan burger. What I got was what appeared to be mashed potato fried and put in a very dry bun served with fries so potato with potato and some salad. I also had the haloumi. Which were very nice. In the morning I went over for breakfast at 0815hrs as I had to leave by 0900hrs. The restaurant was not open and the cleaner stated they didn't start breakfast until 0900 to late for me. I have checked their website states breakfast from 0800hrs on a Saturday. So very disappointed.

I use the yew tree a lot and I also recommend it to a lot of people who come to me for my business. We also recommend it for the accommodation to our clients and members of out family if coming to visit. I quite often eat there and I’m always happy with the food ( especially the mixed grill ) Does get busy so you may have to wait a little while for your order but the service is always good. Since Wayne and Teresa have taken on running the yew tree it has improved no end and it is nice to see it busy and serving good food and drink and also providing good accommodation. Would highly recommend it for good pub food at a sensible price.

This is the third time I have visited the Yew Tree since the new landlord took over. The first time I visited the service was appalling and the food was average. The second time I visited the service was appealing and the food was terrible I had a steak with peppercorn sauce. I poured the sauce on the steak only to discover the cream used had gone off. The meal was ruined. I complained to the staff only to be told I was wrong. The third time I visited, I was stood at the bar for 15 minutes waiting to be served. Two other people who arrived at the bar after me were served before me. I walked out in the end. I have lived in Longhope for 20 years and I have been to this pub many times. This is the worst it has ever been. I will never step foot in the Yew Tree again.

Awful experience, chicken fajitas burnt and chewy, spices so acrid I couldn’t eat it, served on unhygienic boards. Wine didn’t arrive and then when asked again came in a tumbler, husband ordered a small Diet Coke and received a pint glass of it. His steak had to be cut small in order to eat it it was so tough. We were never asked how our meals were. The bill was paid at the bar. When we left the pub I smiled at the barmaid and said Thankyou, she caught my arm and asked me, the granny of the group, if I had paid. So rude!!! We will not be returning.

Luckily, it was a lovely day we when visited and was able to spend a lot of time up in the children’s park which is very secure and safe for children to play in, while having a drink. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and polite. This pub/motel was an accidental gem of a find. We needed somewhere to stay for 4 nights in the Forest of Dean in between moving house. On booking.com it looked clean and good value. It is.But the food! Pete knows beef. The steak menu is great, and locals we've met tell us this is the focal point of the Forest if you fancy a steak. I'll say nothing about the Beef Stallion with jalapeños, but if you've ever had a Philly steak sandwich in it's home city (I have) those Americans will weep in envy if they try this. I'm on for another tomorrow before we have to leave. Will finish with the Sunday carvery. Book in advance or you won't get a table. If the Toby Carvery is considered a benchmark then here Pete charges the same but gives you a much bigger empty plate then piles 3 times as much meat on it. The Silverside of beef was so moist and tender it melted in the mouth. Pete was happy to share his technique, and surprisingly simple it is. Want to know? Come here to eat and ask him yourself!

There is a large garden area with play area and tables however you cannot eat in the garden only drink! The food must be consumed in another outisde area the other side and down hill of the playarea across the pubs car park . It is not safe for a child to cross this on their own. So as a family we couldn't eat here, obviously we want to be able it eat and then let our children play close to us. We got there at 12.30 on a Bank Holiday thinking the pub would be busy, only 1 group of people there... Now we know why. Families simply cannot use the pub. Such a shame because this could be. We ordered sandwiches well presented small dish of salad as well taste was excellent probably one of the best sandwiches in the area well pleased.Landlord has a dry sense of humour almost blunt, but served drinks offered ice etc this pub well used by locals although not that busy on the days we have visited.I know Sunday lunch is popular in the area. Not the most attractive of pubs inside but clean and tidy and food good value.

I had delicious Fish and Chips, Steak and even a cheeky pudding whilst staying over at this lovely Inn. Good sized portions. Great prices and excellent personable service. Cannot recommend enough

Whilst staying in the area we popped in for a meal. The pub has a large car park with loads of outdoor seating. Inside it is very clean with a good choice of drinks (including real ales) and the menu was extensive but also good value. Both the service and the food were excellent, in fact to find something to criticise would be extremely hard, although perhaps they could have waited a little longer between courses.Overall highly recommended.

Whilst working for 3 weeks at the vantage point business village I had the great pleasure of stating at the yew tree inn. Clean, modern & well equipped rooms is the best description I can muster. Followed by a warm friendly welcome at the bar which serves good food, good beer (doombar) all at good price's. Well worth a visit/stay if you are in the area.
