Disappointed. Tea cakes looked lovely but were cold,served with frozen butter which we couldn't spread as it disintegrated into lumps. Cappucino horrible-scalding hot,milk over-worked and did not taste of coffee. Poor.

They sell Lime Bay wine and many other goods we like whenever we visit. It's a nice atmosphere, the staff are always pleasant.

lovely visit to Powderham Bistro . we had the freshest fish with the crispiest batter possible. just on or two comments rather than complaints. the tables were very sticky. not just one either. also the meal was too large. I asked for a small one even though we said we would pay full price. I think that considering three quarters of your visitors are older people ,a small bites menu is practical. We don't like wasting food also it would save you money.

Absolutely gutted today. The new owners have axed the best Plant Based Breakfast in Devon. We’ve been regular customers for years with our family and friends but won’t be back ☹️

Live 3miles away often pop in after a walk for a take away cuppa. Two teas were ok, but avoid the lion bar brownie as this was totally inedible and we couldn’t even get a knife into it to cut up £2.75 in the bin! Would certainly not recommend this . Will not be buying that there again. Such a shame as normally their cakes are good.

My wife and I have been visiting Powderham Farm Shop every year for the past 8 years whilst visiting family in Devon. Every time we have purchased food and drink that has been to a high standard. We have never had any problems. Until last Monday 5th July..... We always head straight to the meat counter but our first thought was very disappointing. None of the meat was at all fresh and the presence of flies on and around the large steak right in the middle turned us off. We have never seen such an unkempt counter. This is where we made our mistake though.... We decided to look at the pre-packed meat in the fridge opposite that did look quite nice. We picked out a pack each of back and streaky bacon and purchased these along with a few other items. However. when we arrived home 300 miles North, we noticed that the 'use by' dates were 3rd July and 28th June respectively! Given that we purchased these on the 5th July we were not too happy. Yes we should have checked the dates, but then again out of date items should not be on the shelf.I don't think we'll be visiting again......

We have visited the farm shop three times in the last year and have found every visit to be disappointing. This could be a fantastic farm shop with all the local produce that is on offer in Devon, but the shop looks badly managed, the shelves are half empty and displays of merchandise look tired and not well cared for.The deli counter looked nice but I cant say the same for the fresh meat counter which looked not at all fresh.Wont bother going again.

We call in regularly because we are local, As farm shops go, this is a small one, but they do wonders. Superb butchers with local meat. Smallish selection of local vegetables. Lovely delicatessen. Good gift shop. Friendly staff. Small café, but expanding.Next door to a small but good nursery. Toilet, parking (inc. disabled.) Wheelchair access, but limited.Same site as Powdwerham Castle and gives access to some lovely walks.

Such a gem of a farm shop and the setting is beautiful. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. The manager Katie was super helpful and such a friendly lady. Excellent choice of food and treats. Thank you to everyone, I will definitely be returning soon.

Found this when we visited the castle grounds last year. Went today, excellent coffee and a gorgeous pasty. Friendly and efficient staff. We will be back .

What a lovely friendly shop! The food is lush and even when dealing with difficult, verbally rude customers the staff really keep their cool and stayed professional in a polite and friendly manor. Great job, the pasties are beautiful!

Hemos hecho parte de nuestras compras semanales en la tienda de la granja durante algunos años. A través del bloqueo de covid, hicimos la mayoría de nuestras compras aquí, ya que estábamos ansiosos por respaldar las empresas locales. Nunca tuve un problema, aparte de algunas verduras podridas, pero el personal es generalmente tan agradable que hacemos la vista gorda ante algunas de las deficiencias.Hoy visitamos para comprar pasteles y una bebida caliente y nos disgustó el servicio. La señora más madura que servía no solo era extremadamente grosera, sino que también tocaba la comida sin usar guantes y la observamos metiendo la nariz en tazas de té olfateándolas antes de servir a los clientes. A la luz de Covid, siento que este tipo de servicio es completamente inaceptable. Si la dama siente que este tipo de comportamiento es aceptable frente a los clientes que pagan, temo pensar en lo que sucede cuando nadie está mirando.Gastamos mucho más en compras durante el covid en comparación con lo que hubiéramos gastado en un supermercado, pero queríamos intentar apoyar a la tienda, pero me decepciona decir que ya no le daremos a la tienda nuestra costumbre.

Popped in as Orangery closed. Bought an 'American' bbq scotch egg and two coffees. Had to throw the scotch egg away. Greasy, cold and tasteless. Coffee the only redemption.

Viviendo localmente (a un par de millas) estacionamos e hicimos nuestra caminata matutina a Starcross y back, que hacemos mucho y generalmente tomamos pastel y una taza de té después. Pagamos nuestros bocadillos en la parte delantera de la tienda y salimos, donde había mesas de madera y bancos para sentarnos en el patio. Hacía tanto calor y disfruté de mi encuentro con un amigo mío que viene de Bournemouth, pero que se quedó con sus padres durante 4 meses. Visité el baño para discapacitados yendo por el estacionamiento y pensé que debía haber otro camino a seguir para los usuarios de sillas de ruedas, ya que el estacionamiento era pedregoso, pero en el camino de regreso mi suegra me llevó al otro lado, lo que era mejor para las personas. que tienen problemas de movilidad y para personas en silla de ruedas. September 2019 we moved to Starcross and being just 1 mile from us, we visit here at least twice each week. The food is excellent and staff brilliant. The shop itself is really nice and whilst I see some comments about prices, this has not been our experience. The produce and variety is excellent. It really is a nice place.There is a supermarket nearby but this Farm Shop is a far nicer place to shop.We are not associated with Powderham but we just enjoy our visits to them.

Hemos estado yendo al café al menos una vez al mes durante los últimos nueve años y comiendo afuera en las mesas de picnic (¡si comes adentro cuesta mucho más!) Y siempre es una experiencia muy agradable, ¡hasta la semana pasada! ! !Siempre tenemos la misma comida deliciosa allí, pero nos sorprendió que nos presentaran una factura que era 30% más alta que la última vez y cuando lo consultamos nos dijeron, de manera muy informal, que era porque la comida ahora se estaba sirviendo. en platos de cartulina en lugar de en una bolsa de papel! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Visited the shop and restaurant for delicatessen items and snack lunch. The deli items we bought were top notch , doughnuts to die for! Lunch was good too . Definitely worth the visit.

Great selection of fruit, vegetables and an array of other things that you can purchase. Plus close to the bus stop.

After coming to Devon to visit my dad, I said I wanted to go somewhere where I could get some fresh local produce. Being a head chef I’m always looking out for new things and he suggested this place. Wow. So many different things here from chutneys to oils, to spice rubs and sauces. Right up my street. We spent about 40 mins in here just looking around! I left with some chutney, a bottle of gin, and some sauce, a great combo for me. The lady at the checkout was lovely. Will defo be back next time I’m on my annual visit. Thank you.

This was a return visit to the farm shop. We had been there a couple of years' ago whilst staying with friends in the area and new they stocked some excellent local produce. There is a till on either side of the entrance to the shop. At one, the assistant was very busy serving customers. At the other, the assistant was sitting eating and ignoring everyone who walked past her. We spent some time looking around and decided to purchase a particular bottle of infused olive oil that we've only ever managed to find before in Italy. There was a customer being served at the one working till where it was clear, there was a problem with the bar code on the item. The other assistant was still eating and ignoring everyone so we asked if she was open and was met with a firm "No", as she turned away and tucked into her food. As we waited for the problem to be resolved, a queue began to form behind us but the other assistant steadfastly refused to move from her seat or serve anyone, even whilst she was shouting instructions at her hapless colleague trying to cope with the fact that the bar code wouldn't work. Had we been able to buy the oil anywhere else in the UK, we would have walked out and we are still quite cross that we gave them our custom. Rude and unacceptable behaviour from one staff member. Felt very sorry for their hardworking colleague.

We had a lovely walk with our dogs from Starcross to Powderham and around the grounds, it was a lovely day with sunshine and showers. We ordered coffee and cake from the cafe and were about to enjoy them outside (dogs aren't allowed inside), when the heavens opened. There is absolutely nowhere to shelter from the rain if you're outside which is a shame - it wouldn't take much to put a small canopy for people with dogs.

Soy local y siempre me gusta un café cuando estoy fuera, pero no volvería a comprar uno aquí. Me pregunto que piensan otras personas?

Apareció mientras visitaba a familiares en la zona, ¡y me alegro de haberlo hecho! Buen almuerzo, con rellenos de sándwiches de la tienda de delicatessen y sorprendentes carniceros en el lugar, y muchas cosas tentadoras para comprar en la tienda. ¡Imposible escapar sin conseguir dulces y helado para los niños! Definitivamente aparecerá de nuevo si está en la zona.

Popped in for a quick look around. Living on the other side of the estuary, we usually use Darts Farm, but enjoyed Powderham as the range was different. Well presented, good parking. Couple of cafe options but not much evidence of Gluten Free availability - we didn't use either cafe as GF options weren't well signposted. The smaller of the cafes is not set up to be able to keep the GF separate from how I saw it being used/cleaned by staff so probably best use the larger one if hypersensitive. We enjoyed the plant/nursery section, the decor and arrangement of the indoor part gave plenty of ideas!

Glorious afternoon, a lovely walk in the grounds followed by tea and cake! I do prefer my tea with my cake though! Shame by the time they found a tea pot my cake was long gone! Delicious though!

Had lunch in the cafe absolutely delicious bacon,sausage and egg bap, more like a meal! Luxury hot chocolate was enjoyed by my son and a cup of tea,but could have done with a top up,so a pot would have been better. Enjoyed the shops garden area lovely and some great offers.Well worth a visit.

Have coffee at trestle tables and test drive their patisserie. Buy local apple juice, brilliant butcher, well stocked deli with red Dorset cheese a favourite. Fresh veg, it’s all excellent!

Popped into the farm shop cafe today to pick up a couple of takeaway hot chocolates to take with us on our walk around Powderham. Unfortunately they were lukewarm and tasted like they had come out of a vending machine (I know they hadn't as I had watched them being made). We didn't finish them, expect more for £2.50 each.

The Farm Shop does have a small area where you can eat the snack foods for sale in the Deli there. But for a much better meal in a nicer surroundings try The Orangery next door. We were only wanting a light lunch and they do have a few lighter snack meals, as well as a Specials Board. The Venison sausages and Mash are very good with Venison from the home Farm. The Chilli Bean stew with Sour Cream and Tortilla Chips was very hot and spicy and the fish cakes with a salad and small pot of thin chips was just the job for me. Not a lot of fish in there but Ok.

Popped in for coffee and a quick bite. Food and drink very good but not cheap nice environment and obliging staff .I would recommend to a friend

And decent pies and cheese. Devin ciders and juices also good. But lots of quite expensive Christmas fare. Not terribly tempted. They sell lovely Xmas trees though. 6 miles south of Exeter and worth a look. Corner for tea could do with a revamp.

From fresh bread and cakes to pies , meat and a very varied selection of bicuits . 90% of the items are locally sauced and there is a lovely selection of jam chutneys etc , will certainly call in there again

Visitamos el restaurante tienda granja en día padres como un grupo de 9 que reservamos con antelación para 10. 00 visitas previas han sido muy buenos. Sin embargo, llegamos y nos sentamos en nuestra mesa no reconoció nuestra presencia normalmente una camarera/camarero parece con té o café y tomar nuestro pedido. Tuve que ir y pedir nuestra orden, luego preguntar de nuevo 10 minutos más tarde porque no había llegado. Finalmente pedir entonces esperamos otros 5 minutos para el té y el café, mi madre quería agua que tomó 10 minutos más en llegar. La camarera y volví a decir que mi hijo no podría haber un adicional para su desayuno de morcilla como este no estaba permitido (en última curioso fue 3 visitas! Llegamos, el desayuno) salchichas obviamente comida precocinada estaban secas y duras, tanto mis huevos escalfados eran duras y las tostadas de color marrón, pero se había quemado la capa de negro había sido lo tocabas. Qué triste que han dejado su retorno al mal. Sólo vivimos un corto paseo y habíamos disfrutado de ir a la tienda de la granja y el restaurante, sin embargo ahora piensa dos veces antes de volver

Have really enjoyed shopping in this farm shop. The butchery is excellent with pleasant staff. There is a wide variety of produce with the fresh vegetables perhaps the high spot. The deli is good with plenty of choice of cheese and the quiche looked tasty. You can easily spend quite a lot here but you do have to pay for good quality. Would definitely visit again.

Stopped on way home to walk dog have a coffee.sat at rather old and dirty wooden bench and table I went inside to order 2 latte coffees and was about to choose a couple of pieces of cake until I saw the price.I decided on coffee only and was glad as I was charged £5 for two small coffees which were served in double insulated paper cups.when they finally arrived they were Luke warm. This is a complete turn round on my experience last year. That was good value and super food.the coffee this time was machine made. Standards have clearly dropped.even the shop looks a little tired.

Stopped at the takeaway part of the farm shop for a coffee and cake with five others mid morning on Easter Day. The three girls working there were rude and grumpy in the extreme, and continued to talk between themselves whilst taking orders. They gave the distinct impression that they did not want to be there, which was a shame as the cafe and shop are all nice looking and inviting. Shame about the staff - it definitely does not entice me to make a return visit.

I cannot fault the food nor the service but feel it's a little pricey.Home cooked food , desserts and cakes - something for everyone.Lovely waiting staff.Shame the toilets are outside as you get wet walking from the restaurant to the toilets.Carpark was a bit muddy falling the recent rainfall - watch your step.Will be back when next in the area.

Often stop here after a cycle from Exeter.tTe toasted tea cakes and hot drinks are excellent , served up by lovely staff. Have also bought local made pies from the deli to take home for lunch - always great flavours.

Where to begin with the praise. The staff are helpful and very friendly. The goods on sale, although a little pricy, are so delightful that you will keep going back for more. Amongst the splendid goodies on offer that you absolutely have to try, are the Mouth-watering raspberry meringues, custard slices and millionaire chic slice - and if the sun is shining, take them back to your car and enjoy whilst watching the huge herd of deer. Even if I am not staying close by, I always make a detour to visit and top up my supply of unique salad dressings.

Twice, in the past month, we have met friends for breakfast in the restaurant. Lovely setting, very helpful staff and, in my opinion, the best cooked breakfast in the area by a long way! Good, fresh local produce and very good value for money. Highly recommended!!!

After a vist to the Powderham castle, this is a wonderful plave to go and have a cup of coffee and stock up on lots of farm produce etc. They have a great butchery and lots of different foods in its delicatessan. Next door is a very good Restaurant for lunches

This a lovely little find, full of delights. The butchers are always helpful and the fresh baked bread is wonderful. Relaxed and friendly and well worth a visit.

Lovely to roam around this shop - so many lovely food & non food products - mostly local produce too. Under no pressure to buy - but it's too tempting not to!

Went for lunch with my wife and our very good friend. We ate very good quality sandwiches and a drink. The sandwiches were excellent good quality ham and cheese and pickle. Staff very attentive and very helpful. The farm shop was good, if a bit pricey. Would certainly visit again if in the area.

We stopped in the cafe hoping for lunch. There was nothing available gluten free. The staff had no inclination to try to help with suggesting something the chef might be able to do. Even the baked potato had an unsuitable topping and when we asked if they could do the potato with maybe cheese instead we were told no because that wasn't on the menu. Very surprised at the lack of serviceoffered by the staff and very disappointed. Will not be revisiting.

Stopped for morning coffee. The site has several features plant sales, gift and food shop and restaurant with terrace with views of the castle. Particularly pleasant on a sunny day.Good coffee.

Only went in for a look round ended up having a coffee and an apple danish and a raspberry meringue both were fresh and tasty, also the meat counter looked really good meat looked very fresh.

Went to the farm shop for the first time yesterday. Really enjoyed browsing the different local goodies for sale. Very impressed with the variety of salad dressings/marinade etc. available. Loved the cranberry balsamic and the nettle/lemon/ginger oil so bought these to try. Will definitely be back again.

We popped in to this restaurant after visiting the Toby Buckland festival at the castle. We only had coffee and cake but all was well presented and the staff were pleasant and efficient.

Popped into farm shop wandering around n little cafe in shop had the most fresh delicious ploughman's..supplied all luvly produce... which u can then purchase which we did .. the oils oh my a dream just fantastic..staff..helpful friendly and happy to help and advise ...

A convenient and comprehensive range of local produce that you won't find elsewhere. Great range of oils and vinegars, pies etc.

Plenty of parking and toilets available on site. We made for the plant sales and were rewarded with some real bargains. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and were in no way disappointed. A pleasant visit!

Went into the Farm Shop at 4.50 with advertised closing time of 5 to be greeted by 'we're about to close' There was nobody to serve me at the deli counter and all the fresh veg were packed away. If a place is going to advertise opening until 5, then it should actually offer a decent service until 5. I also endeavoured to contact them by email which they ignored. There are many farm shops in the area - go to one which actually welcomes custom!

This farm shop was wonderful. It has a butchery and a bakery together with a fantastic range of vinegars & oils and more besides. Prices range from very reasonable to more decadent but the range of choice from dried pasta to local chutneys to cinder rock sweets was excellent. Will visit again when passing!

Enjoyed a very pleasant stop here and quite enjoyed lunch, the shopping areas a bit disappointing but overall worth a visit

Extremely good butchery and bakery; Delicious food served in cafe. Well stocked food and gift departments. Local icecream sold. Would recommend a visit.

Good knowledgeable people attending, and an interesting tour of the house, the grounds are lovely to take some time in

I've just popped in to Powderham Farm Shop to organise a largish order of bread rolls for a BBQ later in the year. Sean, the baker, asked where I was going for my meat and I said i'd thought of going to Costco in order to keep my overheads down. He recommended I ask them for a quote, which had me taking a new look at the butchery counter. I'd not looked as I was under the assumption it was still run by Piper's of Magdalene Rd, Exeter, who have very nice meat, but at rather high prices. On scanning the various cuts, of rather nice looking meat, on the counter, I clocked a few prices and came home to compare against Waitrose's meat prices. I have to say, for the perceived quality of the meat on show, Powderhams prices undercut Waitrose by a nice margin. My freezer's full at present, so i'll give it a few weeks to empty it out, then try a few of their cuts. The Butcher informed me he would also soon be stocking his pork from the same supplier that provides pork to Riverford, which is very good news. The sausages, beef steak mince and brisket caught my eye, so they'll be the things i'll be trying out soon. I'll also be contacting them for a price on some meat to fill my rolls, when the time comes.So, on bread and butchery, they're looking to be good on price. though I would describe the normal shelf products as being on par with other farm shops in the area.Worth a visit.

My wife and I called in for lunch. Reasonable menu but not massive. Specials board, half of which had been removed at 1245pm! We both decided to have haddock and chips and, having seen another patron with same order, asked if they did smaller portions. No! Neither the wife or I could finish off the meal it was so big and, looking around at the other twenty or so diners, neither could a lot of the other patrons. (mostly in their 70s) Why they do not do smaller portions like most restaurants I do not know but they must throw away a lot of food. Very disappointed at the attitude. Price wise, too expensive for main stream restaurant and will not be getting our custom again. The shop area was also a bit of a disappointment, doors closed, use next door, couldn't because it was blocked off by display cabinets. Eventually had to walk around to main entrance. Inside was a mixture of cheap and expensive, but my wife who knows 'expensive' was not impressed. In and out in dive minutes and on our way home.

If you are in search of a tea time treat then look no further. Pretty barn like structure decorated with delicate swags of dried fruits and leaves which looked beautiful against the painted wood walls. The tea pot was generously filled and my choice of scone, jam and clotted cream was a substantial feast that I struggled to finish. My companion rather more quickly demolished a lemon slice and pronounced it fresh and delicious. Feeling suitably refreshed we headed off to enjoy the surrounding retail outlets which offer a range of original gift ideas in a far more civilised environment than that provided by large shopping malls. A totally winning combination.

Have visited here several times and usually purchase a few bits and pieces. Prices can be a bit on the high side but the quality is there. Located at the road entrance to Powderham Castle so it is nice to look around and see the deer in the park.As well as the farm shop there is Toby Buckland's garden centre and a variety of shops selling clothing, Indian rugs, gifts, toys etc. Makes a nice little outing if you also go to the restaurant for a meal or coffee. We enjoyed our meals there.

We always pop in when we are in the area and especially if we have come across on the Starcross ferry from Exmouth to visit the castle grounds. Plenty to see and buy offering some choices not seen in many other such places.

We as a group of cyclists vist this cafe in the Powderham Farm Shop on a regular basis.They have really friendly staff and serve excellent coffee.Their cakes are the very very best and the prices are reasonable.There is also the facility to sit outside at the picnic tables as well as the inside tables.

We have not visited the farm shop in a while and was pleasantly surprised with the update and refurbishment of the shop. Not cheap, but meat looks good and fresh plus lots of variety.Glad we visited and will return

Busy café/restaurant menu seemed a bit tired Tea and cake ok but wouldn't go out of my way to revisit, if you dont like wasps don't sit outside in August
