Heard good reviews about their Sunday lunch so gave it a try, it was well organised which sometimes carvery’s aren’t, they do 2 sessions we went at 12pm so it was all fresh and plenty there. The food was lovely and enough different vegetables for everyone, the meat was all very tender I had beef & turkey and my husband had turkey & pork. Great value for money too, could fault it. Although full we couldn’t resist afters which were also very tasty. Will definitely return.

A friend suggested this as a destination for our regular but overdue catchup. Booked the 1400h sitting and arrived on time. Really efficient service in being seated and they said they’d call us up to carvery so as to keep queueing under control. Table service for drinks too but there is the adjacent bar. There’s two sittings and so it was good to see new joints being set up for second sitting. We were promptly called, and as I was on crutches, a staff member held the plate as I chose what I wanted and took it back to our table. Today was beef, pork, gammon and turkey. Really nice and good selection of veg and Yorkshire’s were spot on. I tend not to eat a great deal so chose my normal amount. All in all a really nice experience. We sat out on the terrace after to finish our drinks in the sun. It’s a pretty slick operation here and it’s appreciated. I’ve seen venues be in complete chaos where adults of the same family have queued and had started eating 20+ minutes apart. I had a San Miguel (pint of draught) and my friend a pint of coke and the bill came to £20 each including a gratuity. Staff were very friendly and efficient and the venue really nice. The terrace is very nice as you have a great view down the fairway and it’s looking really good with all the colourful plants that are in full bloom. Definitely recommend and I’d go again.

Our first visit to Dainton Park and we thought it was great. We were welcomed by restaurant manager Roger show showed us to our table and made sure we were comfortable. We had a great Sunday lunch carvery served by a cheerful chef. They had 4 joints on offer and I had a bit of each with all the trimmings. Lovely selection of vegetables that were cooked just right. For desert I had the raspberry meringue roulade which was delicious. Deserts are all home made and you can tell. Finished off with coffee outside on the terrace enjoying the view All in all it was a really great experience made better by the lovely staff. I would definitely recommend 👍

Having been a favourite for years today was extremely disappointing. Having travelled some distance for lunch I found the food on offer was not as appetising as in the past -before it was a hard choice between the lovely offerings. I suspected there had been a change of chef = correct! And some restaurant staff. I didn't recognise my fish pie as such so left it. I was offered a different meal but declined yet was still charged. I'd already said I would take another meal home to try later on, which I shall. My card was 'declined' I was told and daresay the whole restaurant heard this - fortunately I had another debit card with me. On phoning my bank = no, they had not received a request for payment from the Oak room but had cleared a slightly earlier one from the bar for drinks and there was plenty of £ in the account = ? Clearly the machine in the restaurant was u/s and the waitress, who smirked on announcing 'declined' ,was still smirking when I took her to task for the way in which she mishandled the situation ie was rude and could have suggested taking the 1st card's payment via the bar as before. What a shame, a favourite please gone down the drain regards both food and service. There'll be no rush to return.

Firstly I have to say that we eat at this place regularly and normally the food is fantastic and portions are huge. However we were disappointed with the Christmas lunch this year. Our portions were very small, the small portion of potatoes that did not seem like proper roast potatoes were placed underneath the turkey. The separate portion of vegetables was also very small for our party of four people as was the dessert. Filter coffee was included but if you wanted cappuccino or latte you had to pay more. The food did taste nice but there just wasn't enough of it. On a brighter note the staff were lovely and friendly as always and this will still be one of our favourite places to dine.

Met some friends here for lunch and chose the hot buffet style. Great selection of hot dishes to choose from and help yourself to potatoes and veggies. We had lamb. Steak pie and fish lie. Very generous serving and all fresh and hot. Also had puddings and we’re all delicious. Great view. Good service and food. What more do you need. They have a bar menu too if buffet style is too much for lunch. Coffee is good too.

Lots of choice...but other than the salmon (cooked to order and very good ) the other dishes from the hot plate were all overcooked. Lots of choice when it came to vegetables and side dishes, but some were poorly prepared ( unpeeled and seeds still in the butternut squash, carrots underdone, roast potatoes hard as bullets) A bit "school dinnersy" for us...we won't be back except for a sandwich in the bar perhaps.

I went here with a party of about 30. I am vegan and before going I was given 3 things I could have ( it was a three course meal) and two of these was not vegan and one was very poor . After another email to them I was contacted and asked for my telephone number so it could be discussed and I was given something better but not that good. On the day it was a total disaster as I had a tiny bit of vegetable soup cold plate) but no vegan scone which I was promised and when I asked for it I was told the chef said they turned out like bullets and he put them in the bin!!!! Many times during this meal the people serving us were back and forth to ask the chef different things. Vegan is so easy but not at this establishment, the whole three courses were the poorest I have had anywhere. I could go on forever about how awful the whole thing was. Why did they turn this into Faulty towers. The people around me were complaining and for some weird reason they put the pork on curved dishes and it was difficult to cut on a curved dish. What a fiasco it all was and never again. This establishment has gone down a very steep hill

I'm sorry to say the roast pork was disappointing unlike the wonderful roast on last year's birthday......roast potatoes were white!? and the dishes just looked 'tired' and not as fresh. The saving grace however was the salmon which I took home with me = delicious....the sauce was absolutely wonderful so that was good. However, I note someone else said the same thing so clearly something's changed, sad to say.

We all opted for the carvery which was good. Social distancing was in place and the staff wore masks which was good to see. All in all a nice lunch with the carvery costing a reasonable £10.95 each. We were seated in the orangery which was absolutely lovely with big bifolding doors looking out on to the terrace then the golf course. The food was amazing and probably the best carvery I've had locally. Plenty of good quality meat and lots of tasty vegetables. Also the staff are on top of their game and very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. 10 of us met around the table for the annual birthday lunch of one of the group of friends. A number of us chose the plaice as it was the only fish on offer. The disappointment was that it contained so many bones (no problem at home - you expect that) which meant that our conversation was severely curtailed. To be fair we were warned but so many bones and not much fish...One member of the party was also disappointed with the crumble saying she could have had better at home. Whilst the environment and service is good I have to say I was disappointed last year with the liver: one piece under cooked and one piece overcooked and dry. All in all, I shall not be going next year.

We chose Dainton for my mums 65th birthday as we have had many happy celebrations here before. Although unfortunately on this occasion we were left disappointed. We booked a table for 18 over 10 months ago but when we arrived were seated on 3 different tables. When we spoke to a member of staff to voice our concerns we were told it’s because of Christmas and there is no way we could all sit together. Very disappointing. The staff seemed to be rushing around like headless chickens. We were also disappointed with some of the veg. The cauliflower cheese sauce was watery, stuffing was sloppy and tasteless and the swede looked like uncooked frozen chips. It definitely put a downer on my mums birthday she was very disappointed. She was planning to book here for their ruby wedding next year but is in two minds now as would hate to have another celebration ruined.

We had lunch for the first time at the Oak Room last week. This is a really nice restaurant with a "Club" feel to it. It's a hot buffet with wide range of dishes, including carvery, pies, fish and lots of vegetables. The restaurant is very well priced and it was full - many of them were clearly regulars as they all knew the drill. It's not a romantic lunch venue but it is a really good eat and the food was real home cooking style and very tasty indeed. Efficient and friendly staff helped to make this a pleasant place. We'd go back for a carverey at this restaurant because of the freshness and turnover of the food. Some carvery style places seem to have had food under lamps all day long - but not the Oak Room. The restaurant is ina lovely setting with countryside views. However, if I were going back soon then I would like to try the bar snacks which has a room with even better views and a delightful and comfy looking lounge bar. It definitely feels like a Club but a cosy one - not the exclusive variety.

Quite a while since we last ate at The Oak Room at Dainton Park, but the latest meal was such a success. The hot buffet mains change daily and include a veggy option. Dishes are really very well cooked, with the main component (such as the meat) served y the staff, with all vegetables, sauces etc. self served. Most impressive were the vegetables - so often either overcooked or dried out at the servery. Not so here - all were just right, being replenished often and not too much at a time. The view onto the last green is great, service friendly and swift, with a good selection of desserts. By no means our last meal at Dainton.

We ordered coffees at the bar as we had arrived earlier than the rest of our group and were served politely and quickly by pleasant staff. We were impressed by the choices of meats - lamb, beef, pork and turkey with all the trimmings, as well as the many choices of fresh veg. Once it came to choosing the desserts, we were again impressed by the amount of choice available. The desserts were all impressive in quantity. I would recommend eating here as the staff were very polite and genuinely cared that we were all enjoying our meals- even going back up to the carvery to replace slices of roast beef which had been sliced rather thickly. We were taken to this lovely restaurant at the golf club by friends we haven't seen for absolutely ages.Being a Sunday lunch, the menu was typically Sunday roast with choices of turkey, pork, beef and lamb. Between the four of us, I think we sampled all of them and they were all beautifully cooked. The delicious meat was supplemented with a very wide variety of vegetables all cooked to the same level of perfection.Having stuffed ourselves with the main course, we obviously couldn't manage dessert - as if!! Another very good range of treats and this was unusual for me - I am very much the savoury diner rather than sweet but mine was well worth having. All this needed was a great level of service to complete the experience and that is what we got. The staff were friendly and very efficient.I can't tell you about the overall value for money as our friends insisted on treating us. Nonetheless, I had seen the headline price when we went in and it was more than reasonable. It will be a long time before we go back simply as it is around 150 miles away but we do know that if another visit is proposed we would not hesitate to accept.

My first visit to this club. I had been invited to a surprise birthday party which was at lunchtime on a Sunday. Arrived and purchased a drink in the bar which was very spacious and had lovely views. We were seated in the Orangery which is a separate room just off the bar area. The atmosphere everywhere was very welcoming. For lunch we all had the carvery but I noticed that a few people had pre ordered a vegetarian option and this was no problem for the staff and looked very appetising. The choice of meats was very good and even included lamb which is often not on offer at other Carveries. The Chef was extremely friendly and welcoming and the portions were extremely generous. The roast potatoes were very crisp and fresh and the vegetables were nicely cooked and there was lots of choice. We were then offered the choice of desserts which was vast and I chose the treacle tart (to die for!) and I also tasted the raspberry roulade (bliss!). The staff were very friendly and appeared to cope extremely well with not only our party of approx 40 people but also a very full restaurant and an extremely busy bar area.Would highly recommend this place to anyone who wished to have a lovely meal and a enjoy a great atmosphere. It is an ideal venue for a private party as well.

I must say that the yorkies looked a bit deflated and unapitising to me, but I don't really eat them so it didn't bother me (I do cook them for my family though and mine are much better looking) Dainton Golf Club is extremely welcoming with really nice bar & restaurant with attractive views across the course and pleasant atmosphere. The bar area also looked lovely with beautiful views over the countryside but due to having the children we didn't linger after lunch. The clientele does verge on the elderly side but I found it lovely that so many people came up to talk to us and our children. You definitely need to book on a Sunday lunch as every table was occupied and they clearly get a lot of return customers. A very family friendly restaurant, the only thing to be aware of is that the floor is carpeted which can be a bit tricky with messy eaters......

It's been a year since we last came over for a mid-day meal. Shouldn't have left it so long. As always a pleasant reception on the phone when booking a table and in person when we arrived. As it happens it was 1.25pm when we went up to the counter to get our meals. Unfortunately two of the choices were sold out, but there were still several other choices available Obviously it's difficult to balance having enough to go round - versus having too much left over...and I fully appreciate that. I did notice that by 1.40pm there were less choices available. So the moral of the story is .... don't leave it too late. Lovely meals and a young fella served us who was extremely polite and helpful....couldn't have asked for better. All the staff seemed welcoming and friendly to customers...always a bonus! The main course was £10.50. Deserts £4.95. Coffees were around £2. I thought the prices just about OK as the quality was good and the portions were a good size and you get to choose as much or as little vegetables and potatoes as you want from the counter and the deserts looked a decent size and looked very nice. To be honest I wouldn't want to pay any more though...I think that was enough.Certainly recommended and we hope to return and won't leave it so long.Thank you.

Holidaying in the local area as we regularly do, we were recommended this restaurant and booked the first sitting for the Sunday carvery, and whilst the food was very good and enjoyable, the drinks were quite expensive. Felt a little rushed as we finished our meal as there is a second sitting afterwards. However on the whole a good experience and nice atmosphere

As a vegan I usually get the short straw at restaurants but not here. I telephone earlier in the week to say I was vegan. Expecting the usual sigh I was told chef would be informed. Well I was served one of the best vegan meals (apart from my own cooking ha ha) I have had in Devon.I'll certainly be going back.

In short, I won't be rushing back!We turned up without booking and it seemed we may have been lucky with a table as there had been a cancellation. The Sunday lunch was plentiful with a good choice of veg, but I found it all to be rather plain, bland and somewhat boring. This may be my/our own personal tastes, but I like my veg to be tasty and individual. My Yorkshire puddings to be light, eggy tasting and crispy. To me, everything tasted much the same.It was not cheap at over £11 per person. I have had much better elsewhere for a lot less, but thought I'd give it a go. Glad I did as I can be sure not to return

A big group of us went for Sunday lunch, with a fantastic selection of roast meat and vegetables in the carvery. The staff were great, particularly with the children, helping them choose their food, and carried it to their seats for them. Desserts were fantastic too! The view over the golf course was lovely, even in the rainy weather.

A jolly good lunch was much enjoyed by our family group - the food varied, interesting, delicious and plentiful as always and it's very easy to enjoy our five-a-day with the wonderful selection of perfectly cooked vegetables always on offer. Three of us couldn't resist the temptations of the sweet trolley too and we rounded off our meal with excellent coffee in the sunny bar!

We visited Dainton for a Mothers day lunch. As always the carvery was plentiful, hot and offered a good choice, the service is impeccable and the views beautiful. But the cherry on the cake has to be the fantastic selection of home made puddings. The food is well priced, parking is plentiful and easy - would definitely recommend.

A trip with the local WI who know very well where good food is on offer. The service could not have been better and help was offered in an unobtrusive way to some of our older members. The view was the icing on the cake. My only small quibble is that compared to the main meal, the puddings were slightly pricy. But there was a range of gluten-free food and dairy-free ice cream was also on offer.

Friends and myself arranged to get together at a central point for all of us. This was the first Sunday that we could arrange as the Oak Room Restaurant was fully booked for the previous two weeks for both their early and late sittings.I am not a fan of two sitting dining as everyone has a different pace of eating and enjoying a meal out. We opted for a second sitting which was 1.30.p.m. It was sometime later before we were given a place. The food was well cooked and lots of it for those with large appetites. Indeed our party had no room for the good selection of puds. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The venue lends itself to family parties, Indeed there was a large party for an 88th Birthday gathering whilst we were there.

I have dined in The Oak Room before and had a very good meal. It was with this in mind that prompted me to book Christmas lunch. However, it was a very disappointing experience. Some of the vegetables were undercooked and others seemed to be either past their best or overcooked Portion control also comes to mind - hardly generous given the cost of the set lunch. If this had been the very first time I had eaten here then I would not return. The service was absolutely excellent as usual. I do hope this was a temporary 'blip' because it is usually fairly good.

Have eaten here three times including Sunday lunch, midweek buffet and the Christmas 3 course lunch. It is excellent value and the Christmas menu includes 3 courses including coffee. As members of the golf club we get a generous discount but it is still good value. I would recommend the midweek buffet for its choice and quality and for less than £10 you can't go wrong. The staff are attentive and there is a lovely relaxed atmosphere with views over the golf course.

Have eaten here for a few Sunday Lunches, all excellent. Better to book as there are two sittings and it is very popular. Best Sunday lunch, quite like home cooked, plenty of meat and an excellent choice of veg. The service is well organised and the staff always happy and very efficient.. The only down side is the plates could be a bit larger, I would not expect more meat but like my food to be less cramped up.Also eaten buffet lunch during the week, extremely good and an excellent choice of menu. The Christmas set meal in the evening was also very good.Lovely setting with beautiful views of the course
