We have been coming here almost every Sunday for the last 4yrs and more recently every Sunday when we can get a booking. The veg is always fresh the meet is always tender and the gravy is outstanding, not your standard carvery more like a home cooked meal, the staff are very friendly and we are alway welcomed with a smile when we arrive, if I could give it more rating I would. They do anything to help you.☺️

No peas, parsnips or beans. Meats really good, rest really nice

Lovely food served by friendly staff. A little disappointed that they didn't read the notes made on the booking that one of our party is gluten and dairy allergic so weren't prepared for it.

I brought 15 members of the family to the Hare & Hounds for a Sunday carvery recently and had an excellent visit. The staff were very friendly and catered for all our needs with drinks and seating, the food was superb and everybody had a great afternoon. Thank you to all the staff!

Lovely family pub and restaurant . Staff so helpful and kind . Nothing too much trouble. Our dog Bruno says it’s the best pub ever! He was given a water bowl and a huge amount of scraps from the carvery to eat from the waiter! Food fantastic and good portions . Play area for children are great too . Arrived without booking but they said no problem and found us a table . Will come again . Thank you so much

We had our wedding reception here and everything was just beyond perfect. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Planning it was made so easy, we went in twice to chat about what we wanted, and the team just got it done - they checked in with us a week before to ensure everything was in order. We were accommodated in the garden room for a casual gathering of 25 adults and 10 children. When I couldn't get my playlist to play on the TV, the chefs lent us their Bluetooth speaker!!! All chefs will know a bluetooth speaker is an integral member of the BOH team so this was a HUGELY kind thing to do and I will never forget this gesture of kindness. It is clearly a very well run establishment. Staff are well presented, polite, attentive but not overbearing, and everything was done in a professional and streamlined manner. We were given white tablecloths and little confetti bits and everything! Nothing was too much trouble. The carvery was absolutely stunning, the crackling is literally the best I've had anywhere. Writing about it is making me hungry! Such a good meal! I want to live the day over and over again. It felt like a dream and I honestly don't think we could have had such a joyful day anywhere else. There was a park for all the kids, staff amazing, gorgeous venue, stunning food, everything just 10/10 perfect. Whether you're after a meal or a bigger family gathering or celebration, this is the place to come. We are so so grateful to all management and all FOH and BOH staff. From the food, to the service, to the gorgeous flowers outside, it was PERFECT. THANK YOU EVERYONE xxxxxxxxx

Went with a friend for a carvery lunch. Lovely setting, staff friendly and helpful. Great selection of vegetables. Beef a little chewy today, perhaps a little longer cooking? Otherwise food very good.

The starters were perfect but a number of the main courses were served with Luke warm chips and over cooked peas.. not the most imaginative of sides!

Beautiful people there to help when husband was hangry at the garden centre. Kitchen open, did not close between lunch and dinner very unusual. We went for sandwiches and ended up with a two course lunch/dinner

We visited the Hare and Hounds for an evening midweek. We ha heard that the carvery was really good there. We were really disappointed, it was a very basic carvery choice of beef, turkey or pork..no gammon or lamb. The veg was also very plain nothing too exciting...looking at their reviews we wonder if the carveries are better at weekend than midweek... We decided to spoil ourselves and have a sweet..we wished we had not..we both had white chocolate raspberry meringue which consisted of one very large and very solid lump of red meringue, fruit compo and a very small bit of white chocolate with clotted cream...both of us left the large lump of meringue as we could not get our fork/spoon into it..it was totally inedible..really bad

Disappointed with the carvery this time. I was only given 2 slices of meat and considering its more expensive on a Sunday I felt cheated. Don't think I'll go on a Sunday again.

Amazing food & friendly staff. We shared a squid starter & had the Torbay sole & shared a bottle of wine . The sole & veg were piping hot & the sole was huge. The squid was soft & both starter & main were delicious. Highly recommend.

Years ago i was a regular here and was passing this evening so decided to give it a try. Please to say its still the best for miles. Wonderful camembert starter followed by carvery. The three meats on offer were cooked to perfection and succulent. There was a large choice of vegetables all of which appeared fresh and not overcooked as is common with most carveries. A wide selection of accompaniments and sauces were also on offer. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Well done to the team. The service was very prompt. Highly recommended. Will definitely be back soon

A lovely meal, I had duck with orange & ginger sauce, my parents had steak & Ale pie, my husband langu burger, all served with chips and pies, my husband had coleslaw also with his.

Best carvery restaurant around but with a great choice of alternative meals if that is not to your taste.

Just had Sunday lunch, been coming here for over thirty years, I was so impressed with today's service and attention, can't put my finger on what the difference is, but staff attentive food was good atmosphere so relaxed and calm.Due to health issues eating out a big concern but nothing to much trouble so I was relaxed and that's a big issue resolved. Would highly recommend.

We visited here last weekend for a small family 90th birthday meal. We eat here whenever we visit and always find the staff friendly and welcoming and the food delicious. They allowed me to tie balloons to the chair and were happy to serve the cake I provided while singing an impromptu happy birthday! The carvery was fabulous as always and super value. I would highly recommend this restaurant and thank the staff very much for making this birthday special.

We ate here last night after making a last minute booking for 8 of us. I have to say the staff were all so friendly and helpful. There were 3 vegans in our group and there was a great selection of vegan food including 2 options on the carvery. All the food was absolutely spot on, including the desserts. Highly recommend for great pub grub and a lovely friendly atmosphere.

Very nice food and great service, the decor is clean and stylish. Turkey Club sandwich with Fries was very good. Also, the Munkfish and Prawn Curry was excellent, spice level reasonably spicy (less than madras/more than tikka massala). The carvery looked good, and I will be back for that soon! The vanilla cheese cake and pear tart were also excellent. Another visit we had Wagu burger (Good) and Pork Belly (Excellent)

What a spot in place to be. I had belly pork which was beyond tasty. The landlord is the nicest chap and loves to pop over for a chat. The staff are all hard working and accommodating. Nothing seems too much trouble. The food is so tasty and the quality is top notch. We will be back!

Ate here for my mother in laws birthday and was very impressed with the food, service and overall feel. If you are in the Torquay area, this place is well worth a visit.

Went for the carvery. The service was pretty good with welcoming staff. The food was okay but not fantastic. Went with the roast pork which was nice but you got the tiniest bit of crackling and the food had been under the heat lamps too long so just warm. The place was very busy so I'd perhaps go back and try something else on the menu

Food was fine, usual carvery experience. Looks nice, but it's been under lights long enough to only be Luke warm and a bit soggy! Service was very slow at times, too long a wait for plates to be cleared. It wasn't overly busy either. So very meh! Won't rush to go back here at all.

Well done to the Hare&Hounds who provided our wake for our beloved uncle Eric on Friday . The food was fantastic as expected as we have eaten there before several times . This was mid afternoon so kitchen closed but the dished up a hot buffet for twenty five and it was fantastic . Thank you very much ,see you soon Phil and Sue .

Felt like a pub created for the community as opposed to a proper pub. Food looked nice though, and staff helpful. Would consider a visit to eat tbh

We came in for a cavery as a couple we were very happy with our food and the desserts were amazing 😀 (I had the knickerbocker) the servers were attentive and always floating around to see if we needed anything. I would say the only downside was the music playlist wasn’t good for the setting nor for children’s ears 👂 but overall we were very happy and will definitely return

It was suppose to roast beef, but the beef was like leather.

Booked for Sunday carvery. This was the best we’ve ever eaten. Staff are incredible and very attentive. The pub was packed and fortunately we had booked. Would one million percent recommend and the main menu is also great value looking at other food being served to other customers. Going back again before we leave. Thank you to the staff who even though were under a lot of pressure were amazing.

We took some disabled clients to this place for a lovely day out however it started off well and treated respectfully but after some time the atmosphere changed, we had to wait a very long time for food and then we had to ask for puddings again a very long wait , then we had to overhear / witness an event which saddened us grately, we felt that comments from Andy (??) And a group sat opposite us made us feel uncomfortable as they wanted music changed, I heard Andy state to the group " we have to cater for others and we would not want them having a heart attack " and looked at our group, this made me feel very uncomfortable and also one of my clients commented, there was no need for this, clearly they do not understand customer service and it appeared the regulars were more respected. The only positive was that food was good "well done to the chef" food was expensive, we will not be returning to endure this discriminative environment.

Was shown in to a table very far away from the carvery with 5 disabled people. Table service was disgusting with no staff around to ask for anything. The man behind the bar was very rude and comments about old people that I felt was aimed at our table. No manners from staff and feel you get more respect from mcdonnals. Will not be returning for future events

Went because of a friends recommendation, very disappointed 😞 food was tasteless & bland with the exception of steak & kidney pudding. Very busy, waiter failed to return with 2 items we'd asked for. Shame as had high expectations 😪

Back for first time in 11yrs! OMG! Even better today. Came to the Hare and Hounds with Mum and Sister for Sunday roast carvery. Wow was it busy! Luckily we booked well ahead but still could only get a table for 2pm (fine with us). Greeted nicely by all staff and seated on time. Drinks served and priced well. Lovely Shiraz and real ales. The carvery; decent servings of quality meats, pork, chicken, lamb and beef. Choice of rare, medium or well done for the beef. Plenty of accompaniements such as, Horseradish, mint sauce, apple sauce and cranberry sauce and bread sauce. The vegetables: not overcooked, cauliflower cheese, carrots, red cabbage, beetroot, potatoes, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, sausages and stuffing. Excellent gravy too. Staff were friendly, helpful and everso attentive. All in all a wonderful experience and very happy customers. Thank you. My family are locals and regulars. Will be back soon for sure.

Attended a private function.Pleasant space. Buffet fresh and neatly presented. Very tasty nibbles,sandwiches,quiche, and sausage rolls. There was plenty to share. Only downside,it was a bit cramped in the area designated for the function. So some guests used the area near the bar as well. A tad tricky to circulate.Had the weather been dry the space outside would have eased the squash. But most importantly the family were able to relax and be together with their friends and relatives.

Really disappointed. From start to finish. Party of 9 all had carvery Unfriendly greeting, no smile, no hello. Got shown to our table. We had 3 old chairs that were dirty/stained. Tables were no better. 3 times I had to go and find our waitress for service. The meat was delicious but that was all that was good. Gravy was awful and all the veg was tasteless. What has happened to this place.? Worst carvery I’ve had. This used to be such a special place to go, for great food.

Really good food . Not too pricey . Easy to find parking good . Menu not exhaustive but good choice . Good place for family or date . Especially with valentine's coming up I had pork belly it was very tender cracking on the dry side but not fatty very enjoyable . We were a large function and this was organised well . Great waiting staff .

Went,with friends, for a Monday lunchtime meal. One of nicest meals I have had for years. Steak you could cut like butter, excellent sauce and had to leave some as full up. Most unusual. Very efficient staff and very fair prices. Well recommended but suggest book as very popular.

I can honestly say this was the best steak cooked to perfection. I asked for rare and wow was just perfect. My daughter had the steak burger and she also said it The best burger she ever had. The food was absolutely amazing and I can certainly say we will be returning here without a doubt.

Easy to understand the enduring popularity of this pub/restaurant on the main road through Kingskerswell - now easily accessible from Torbay thanks to the by-pass. A party of us ate there during the Christmas break and found the venue stunningly decorated for the festive season. It was service with a smile from the moment we entered and although famous for its carvery there is a good choice of alternative dishes on the extensive menu. I went for the homemade steak and ale pie, which was absolutely delicious, followed by an indulgent sticky toffee pudding! Although extremely busy the service was slick and, other than the fact that at least one of our party regretted not having the pie, it was difficult to find fault with any aspect of our visit.

Food above average. Staff friendly and competent. Surroundings delightful. However next day came the stomach cramps and we became reacquainted with the same food via the toilet bowl...

Such a shame , not as good as normal, staff unfriendly, normally love the carvery but not today , vegetables were nothing but mush , tasteless, roasted potatoes were hard or over cooked! 8 adults in our party and and thought the same , when you pay good money you expect better

Well presented pub, loads of parking, mainly an eating pub with bar. Even busy at 5 on a Sunday evening, and not surprising, the food was fantastic. Loads of choice for all tastes, not just a carvery but around 15+ other mains to choose from. The service was friendly and polite, not pushy or rushed. A very pleasant sociable 2 hours with friends. You don't have to shout to have a 7 way conversation either. Didn't try the starters but there were no complaints about any of the varied mains or sweets, all delicious, thank you. Drinks, mains and sweets worked out at c£28 each, great value. Compliments to all the chefs and staff for making the occasion so enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Had a carvery which was cold, roast potato's roast meaning (hot )were dry & not crunchy watery gravy presentation none.

We held my mum's wake here at the beginning of December 2023. I was disappointed with the standard of food supplied. There were only 4 items and they were not what I would consider good quality, in particular the frozen sausage rolls and cheap, bland, shop bought quiche. The sandwiches weren't too bad but they weren't labelled so no one was sure of the fillings. The 4th item was mini pork pies. We paid £650 for 50 people which I thought was overpriced for the standard of food. There was no tea or coffee supplied. This was quoted as an extra £2.50 per person.

An excellent quality, and plentiful Sunday lunch. We had previously had a bad experience with a very long wait for food on Boxing Day, and I did leave a review as no one responded to my email of complaint. However, the owner did eventually contact me personally and offered a sincere and unhurried apology. He actually thanked me for giving them the chance to improve and it was obvious that it was taken very seriously. We returned for a complementary carvery and it was a hugely better experience all round. The salt and Pepper squid (which I had mentioned I loved on previous visits to the owner and he had offered it on the house) was outstanding. The turkey and pork this time were beautifully tender , the roast potatoes much better and the veg good. I am dairy free and the chef offered to and promptly did, bring over extra steamed veg as I couldn't have the full range of carvery veg (some has butter in- ensure you ask if youre dairy free). We all loved the food. service was hugely better and prompt and responsive, with staff checking everything was ok. There seemed to be a much better system, without lots of different people serving the table which there had been on Boxing Day. The vegan brownie with ice cream was outstanding and the ice cream and coffees very good. Honestly couldn't fault it this time, the impression was a busy, well run establishment with lots of people in for birthdays and special occasions. Already planning to come back for my birthday next month. Many Thanks to Andrew, Maria, Andy the head chef (I think that was his name) and the team, for politely and sincerely making up for our disappointing experience on Boxing Day. Definitely recommend, and if something isn't right, do let them know like we did!

Although the pub was very busy with Christmas parties, the staff found us a table for three people. They were extrememely friendly and helpful. Not long to wait for delicious well presented food. Thankyou.

Another visit to the Hare and Hounds and another excellent meal with very attentive service despite the very busy pre Christmas mixture of works parties and regulars. We have been here many times and have never had anything but a very enjoyable meal. Price wise this establishment is a bit more expensive than most of the local bar/restaurants but you understand why when you see the quality of the food on offer. I can heartily recommend this place for quiet meals out or special occasions too.
