Nice food but no gluten free so the review that says they have lots of options isn’t correct.

Staying in Manaton and fancied Fish and Chips. Quick search and discovered a well reviewed chippy. We had cod and chips for 5 people, all cooked to perfection, not overly greasy and tasted good. Would definitely return should we return to Manaton.

Visited while on holiday in Devon, we had cod, plaice, sausage and chips between us and all were excellent quality and very tasty. Lemon and tartar sauce offered with the fish too! The staff were efficient and friendly and the prices were reasonable. Would thoroughly recommend.

Staff friendly and helpful. Especially the young man on the till. Quick with our food. Very nice food. Good sized portions. A nice seating area too. Recommend for sure.

Excellent fish and chips, not greasy, really tasty and big portions. Lovely man who cooked our fish redid one because it broke while he was cooking it. Totally recommend. Knocked off one star because of the unnecessary sarcasm from the girl serving. Apparently asking for S&V ‘only on the chips, not the fish please’, was a step too far and warranted a muttered ‘I hate people like that’ to her very pleasant colleague (not quietly enough).

Tonight was the best cod and chips I've had since I was last in Whitby. 5 stars

Amazing fish and chips I’ve had, the staff are warm and welcoming with the amazing offers that they have on the menu. The chicken is a little dry could make a bit more moist but other than that the place and the food is phenomenal!

Always garenty great fish and chips and a good service

Bit off a pain to park, and also cash only there is a cash machine down the road. The fish that we had was very nice,The chips were great. All food is cooked fresh, sometimes there is a wait for your fish and chip ,the staff are friendly. Like most things nowadays £20 pounds for two people is getting quite expensive.

Portions a little on the small side but very tasty

The food is lovely and fresh and of good quality however, the service needs a bit of work. I rang in at 17:30 to pre order my food for collection at 19:00. I arrived on time only to be kept waiting for a further 20 minutes and it took me to say something before I actually got my order. Pre ordered for that time for a reason and had plenty of notice before hand so very disappointed it wasn't ready to go I'd expect perhaps wait for about 5 mins after selected time because it is cooked fresh but to be kept waiting for 20 minutes is a bit shameful might aswell of just turned up queue. Apart from that it's a very nice fish and chips shop

They Don't take cards - only cash!

Hands down the best fish and chips shop I have found locally. They know what they're doing for sure, because their food is consistent, and their chips come out perfectly cooked. Not too greasy just perfect. I'm amazed people still use other chip shops near here if I'm honest

An excellent take away and dine-in fish and chip restaurant. The staff are friendly and obliging. The owner/Manager is always quick to greet customers with a smile, and to express thanks when customers leave. The fish and chips are the best in the area and always cooked to order. Prices are very reasonable: just 'phone ahead for pickup, cash only accepted, or call in to order dine-in or sit-down service.

Perfectly cooked fresh haddock and chips! 10/10 Crispy batter, succulent fish, lemon and tartare included. Chips lovely and fresh, good mix of chunky chips and a few crispy bits. Asked how I’d like it wrapped and how much S&V. Friendly service and great food, will visit again!

The only saving grace about this experience was the food was ok. Queued for 30mins in the blistering heat. System in place didn't work, people coming in after and being served before us. Won't be returning.

Sorry but the chips were soggy and greasy ? Re heated. The fish was dry and a bit chewy. Probably the worst f and c I have had in a while. I’m not going back anytime soon

Lovely fish and chip place. Only been to Bovey Tracey once for walking and camping which I really enjoyed. Used this place for evening meal. Delicious and would use again

We enjoy the fish and chips here, even though they really are now rather expensive and we have had to cut our visits from twice a month to once every few months for a special treat.

Not worth it, fish was too oily to eat and chips were stale as if they were left out all day then reheated. Waste of money

This is a really reliable take away. Food is consistent, portions of a good size and reasonable opening hours. Only one star off top marks as you have to pay with cash (but there's a nearby cash dispenser). Run by some really nice folks.

Disappointed with the Pies tonight, MICROWAVED Chewy and Soggy Usually have fish, which is lovely. No Pies again for us. ☹️

Wonderfully surprised to find such good fish and chips whilst on holiday, excellent meal and given the choice of a slice of lemon too (very rare these days)

Don't expect fast service but the food is excellent

Nice staff, food OK but bit greasy. Haddock nice, chips bit rubbery. My burger was deep fried and had a pocket of grease in it which came out all over my hands.

On holiday from the Midlands. Bovey fish bar was the best fish and chips we have had in a long long time. No complaints about anything. Mushy peas were not too salty, just the right thickness… curry sauce and gravy was great. The batter on the fish was just superb, light and crisp. Everything was very hot too.

Haven't been to Bovey fish bar before and was sceptical of getting a piece of cod as often unimpressed else where but this was lovely! Will definitely go again.

Popped here yesterday after staying in the area, really nice fresh fish and chips.

After the business had declined over a few years, new owners have really turned the business around. The fish and chips are very good. Not greasy at all and reasonably priced. It's great to have a good fish n chip take away in the town again.

Popped in there just after 4.30pm yesterday as just fancied some fresh hot tasty chips but when I saw what was being placed in the box they did not look appetizing at all. They were pale, chewy just about warm and dry. They seemed like they have been warmed up from the night before to me. £3.50 for a large portion very disappointing. You would think a chippy cooking them everyday would get this right?

Service is slow. Batter on the fish is soggy. Fish also chewy so probably frozen fish not fresh .oil taste funny . Had high hopes as the shop looks nice from the outside

Such a shame the fish is lovely but for the price a large could be larger compared to handburys in babbacombe far to small . The place is spotless but very poor service .only ordered 2x cod and chips and watched the whole shop get served with bigger orders than ours .very noticeable that certain regulars got preference over the not bovey regulars .waited over 30 minutes and got a ticket

Absolutely beautiful food, went quite close to closing time and thought we would probably get the "end of day chips". I was shocked, these chips where so fresh and lovely! Best quality chips I've tatsed in a long time and the staff where very friendly. It's a shame we don't live closer but if we ever come back will defo visit agin

Bright and well presented shop. Chips golden in colour and crisp,good size portion of fish.Very filling meal. Served with real sliced lemons 🍋 and a tub of Tartar sauce.

Top notch! Excellent quality fish and chips. Right up there with the best we've had. Beware cash only, which is rather archaic in 2021, but this is only a minor issue and there is a cash machine nearby. Highly recommended!

Meh quality. Tiny portions, their large portion of chips was smaller than what most other places serve as a medium. I ordered haddock, I think I might have been given a sardine.

Things have improved massively here felt i had to update my review, had some very tasty cod and chips they even managed to cater for our large group with no errors and everyone was pleased (this is not easy). The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and we will return. amazing job at turning this place around!

Actually the best "chips" we've had from a fish n chip shop this year. Battered cod good too. Took our meals to HayTor to savour them and the view, under a waning sun. Would defo go again! But bring cash , no cards taken.

It's a shame about the previous poor reviews. They date back to when the previous owners had it.It's different now. The fish and chips are genuinely excellent ...generous servings of chips and beautifully cooked and presented.Nice, polite staff. They open when they say they are going to open. The prices are perfectly reasonable ... certainly not expensive.I'll be honest and say we used to queue up for the mobile fish van in Bovey as their fish was nice (unusually nice for a mobile fish van) - but they stopped coming round about the time the new owners of the fish shop took over and we've been going every week since.Highly recommended.
