Booked a table for 5 of us last night and had a fantastic evening. Despite being busy (a good sign) the food was out to us really quickly and all of our party enjoyed it. I had the fish and chips which was incredible. Since Mel and her team have taken over the pub has regained its appeal as the perfect village go to. Well done guys. See you Friday for Karaoke night

I booked this pub for a large family meal whilst we were visiting the area due to the great reviews. When booking I asked if they needed pre-booking for roasts or a deposit as we were such a large group and was told that if we came at a set time it would be fine. When we arrived we were asked if we wanted drinks and then told that they had no beef, 4 chicken (which wasn’t even listed on the menu), 3 gammon and 2 steaks. There were 12 of us at the table at 2:30pm. The lady who served us was quite rude when we asked for a moment to think about it. We would have been happy to make do if it was not for her response to us and continuing to push us to order drinks. I cannot comment on the food as we all promptly left and went elsewhere for food. The other reviews and pictures look very good, it is a shame that we did not have the same experience as others. Perhaps if you are a larger party I would recommend requesting to preorder!

We had 2 pizzas, they were advertisrd as home made and cooked to order. However it was clear that they were shop bought pizzas covered in melted cheese with sparse, uncooked toppings. The tomato sauce base was so tasteless it was like eating cheese on toast. The loos were filthy and wet with leaking rainwater and the toilet paper was mouldy and soaking wet.

We really enjoyed our experience at The Artichoke pub. It is a very quaint thatched roof pub in a beautiful setting. The service was very friendly and meals were all freshly cooked. It was worth the wait for the food, all cooked by the owner, Sam. We actually visited twice; once as a couples eve and one with my parent in laws and baby. I had the most delicious fish pie; well presented and very tasty! I tried the lamb burger the following day which was massive! It was served with feta cheese and a tasty tzasiki sauce all inside a sourdough bun; good value for money. A pleasant experience with a slower pace of life; we liked this!

This is an interesting place - a classic Dartmoor thatched inn in narrow Devon lanes. On one side it is clearly a Devon local's pub, on the other it has a well ordered restaurant that goes beyond pub grub. The food, service and presentation are excellent, without being pretentious. A good menu - with a wide variety of local food on offer. The name of the inn is unusual. Might go back to early medieval times when the inn could have been a mustering point for would be crusaders to Jerusalem. And don't be put off by narrow lanes. There's a good car park nearby.

The most bizarre Sunday lunch. Stuck in the 70's. First we were served drinks by a customer as the barman was serving food! We were then given a crumpled sheet of paper with the menu on it although crucially no Sunday roast which I had asked about when booking. We asked and beef was available so we ordered 2. It was poor, salty gravy, potatoes with a very harsh garlic taste, half cooked frozen Yorkshire and weird dark beef. The food here is amazing, we have had breakfast and dinner. There is a wide selection of delicious breakfast options, and our dinner last night was the best meal we've had in a long time! Our compliments to the chef!

Stopped for lunch after walking from Lustleigh with a friend on Tuesday 26/3. She had a tasty baguette and I had the most delicious cheesy chips. The service was great, the atmosphere was warm and cosy and the waitress was so welcoming. The cakes looked amazing too. We're planning a return visit soon

We often pop into the Country Table for Brunch/morning coffee. The food is cooked fresh to order, you can swap ingredients on a standard breakfast (eg mushrooms for beans) free of charge. The cakes and scones are nice. The service at the till is great, as are all the staff. It is great value for money.
