The food was fantastic. Fresh vegetables cooked to perfection, meat succulent. The chef has the perfect blend of herbs to enhance the food but not overpower the flavour. Great range of beer and cider. The pub was on the side of the canal so plenty to see as well. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Visited the Barge Saturday, great setting and beer selection. They were busy and a little under staffed but didn't wait long. Friendly locals and jolly atmosphere. The kitchen had issues with gas and unfortunately shut but they took the lasagne to the camp site kitchen and opened for a couple hours which was good. Camp site is lively but that is no secret, its quite refreshing not to be told off after 11pm and nice to have a fire. Go, check it out with an open mind

We visited on a lovely breezy afternoon. This canal side pub or Inn is very well situated and adjacent to a camping ground. The best way I can describe the management is unconventional, enthusiastic, down to earth, spontaneous. At the time of our arrival they were not serving meals as there was a gas problem in the kitchen. We had two very nice local ciders and we took our glasses out to the numerous bench seating arrangements by the canal. The impression was somewhat spoiled when I rang up the next day to ask about bed and breakfast and the man on the phone couldn't tell me whether an evening meal was in addition to the breakfast or instead of it. The websites certainly doesn't say anything. I will return for the excellent drink but probably visit the nearby cafe for very good and cheerfully served food. Should you wish to talk to anyone you will not be sure of the opportunity. The locals are very chatty

Pitiful experience .. very busy, staff told us the table we booked on Tuesday was no longer available... We were stuck on a tiny tiny table next to the bar in the gangway.. Food was adequate, not the cleanest place and the Pork crackling was soggy and chewy... Staff not very good... The 4 of us will never return .....overrated

Table previously booked. Food order given - several requested items unavailable. Having waited ten minutes we were told the food was being taken off our bill! No food being served as there was a problem with the gas fryers. Other customers had been waiting for an hour before being told there would be no food. Mega disappointing - in a place where there are limited alternative eating places. Recommend you do not depend on eating at The Barge Inn.

We arrived for Sunday lunch at 1pm having booked during the week. They clearly didn’t have enough staff - made us feel more like an inconvenience than customers. Had to queue 20 minutes at bar for drinks and took memu. Chose what we all wanted and had to queue another 20 minutes to order. Then had to wait over an hour for food to come. Having arrived at 1pm, it was after 3 by the time we got our food. We ordered a beef roast, a pork roast and 2 beef burgers. The pork didn’t arrive - got beef instead and were made to feel like that was our fault. They said they couldn’t change it as they didn’t have any pork left. The burgers were cold but didn’t want to wait 20 minutes to complain and was too hungry to wait for another. All in all a bit of a rubbish Sunday lunch. We won’t be going back.

The pub was great with good food and friendly staff, but the campsite was poor - completely waterlogged. The worst thing though (never stay on a Saturday night) was the banging rave music that started in the pub and carried on in the camping field until the early hours. A member of staff told me that it was always like this! I have never smelt so much pot, I can only imagine what other substances were being taken, and in the morning there were vans and cars with people asleep in the field and carpark. Definitely not good for children and staff made no attempt to calm things down, which says it all!

The campsite was ok (if a little muddy but rain can't be helped in October!) and the toilets were clean, didn't use the showers. My only gripe about the site is the per person camping charge, for two nights with electric it cost us over £60 - out of season too! We take our van away loads and usually pay between £12 and £15 per night, even in the summer. A little more for sites with a pool/clubhouse as expected. The charges are way too high here for a pub, toilets and showers. The food and drinks in the pub were very reasonable, food was nice and staff were friendly.

Pubs like this don’t exist anymore. No airs, no graces, no pretensions — just very good at doing it’s job. Def ‘counter culture’ so if this is not you then don’t visit. Otherwise you will have a wonderful free and easy time with, in these inflationary times, bar prices from four years ago. Cheers. Well done. Keep it up.

Stopped off here to try the food and see the campsite after being served terrible food elsewhere. The menu was extensive and I opted for the pie, chips and vegetables. The homemade pie was stuffed full of meat [I couldnt eat it all], homemade gravy with a asizeable portion of chips and fresh veg. For £12 it was a bnargain, even mor eso if youre staying on their offer of £17.55 a night. it put shame on the watery undercooked rice curry dish I had to send back twice at a nearby place after which they. refused to cook me fresh rice. At over £16, i could have stayed here the night and been full on suoerb homemade food. Will seriously consider staying here next time.

Arrived here Tuesday 15th August, 1st impressions were not brilliant I have to say! The whole atmosphere was very much hippy style with the aroma of joss sticks and marijuana in equal measures! The main bar area is painted as a homage to Stonehenge which kind of matched the clientele perfectly. The Barge Inn seemIngly is positioned above a leighline €> We were supposed to be here for the week but no cannot stay here any longer without a shower working!! There are two showers in the block for amenities which were out of use and one toilet which was disgustingly dirty, toilet rolls had run out and not replaced in the two days we stayed here, not even so much as any soap to wash your hands or paper hand towels to dry them on !!! The floor was very muddy and again hadn’t been cleaned. The Barge Inn pub we found not very welcoming , all staff would benefit from further customer service training in my opinion as they all seemed unmotivated and not wanting to be be there. We ate here once and have to say the food was excellent, however the tables outside were once again neglected and unclean, there were empty glasses, dirty plates attracting lots of wasps which made our dining experience very unpleasant. We searched campsites and have now found one that has a vacancy thank god! Don’t even bother with this place if your expecting cleanliness 😡🤢

The 5 star review is for the campsite, camping at the barge. Not the pub. Easy to book site, with toilets and showers available. Lenny is an absolute gem of a man! He couldn't be more friendly and helpful if he tried. Huge thank you Lenny, you're a star! Now the pub... We had intended on eating in the pub on Saturday night. As it happens, they did have a wedding on, so they couldn't take food orders till half 6. If they don't have enough staff to accommodate a wedding and the general public, I completely understand. We did ask a few times if there was any chance we could just get a simple bowl of chips for the children in our group, staff would say they would go and ask, but nobody came back. We decided to go back to our van and make do with what we had in the van. There was a few hostilities towards our dog. We have a German shepherd who can be vocal at times, especially when a small boy kept running his dog round the back of my girl when she was resting. Then little boy decided to shout at my dog, calling her a bad dog!!! She's not a bad dog, you was being an annoying little boy repeatedly running your dog around ours. Another woman with a small dog in the pub, decided to be extremely rude, demanding my dog leave.. when it was her rat doing the barking!! Overall I wouldn't visit this pub again. Campsite I would return so long as Lenny is there

Originally visited in June and enjoyed a good meal and good service. Then booked a table for a family get together. Queued at the bar to get the attention of staff. Advised of our table booking, no welcome, handed menu's not shown to our table. We believed it was table service as on the previous occasion but soon realised we had to queue and order at the bar. Food arrived, we were not asked if we wanted condiments or sauces etc. Asked for a jug of water, but it never appeared. Food not to the standard as on the previous occasion. Decided not to have desserts. Over charged on the bill We are tolerant people but the service was poor, the food below standard and the experience was such that we wont return to or recommend this pub.

Have been to the barge a number of time for drinks and love the bohemian chilled vibes! We decided to try it for meal and despite the food being ok, the rude staff member who served us ruined it! Firstly we had starters which were delicious and after stacking our plates and to help the waitress out (I work in hospitality so know the awks moment of reaching over people to clear their plates) the waitress questioned whether we needed more cutlery for our main meal… surely this is obvious as you’ve cleared away the knives and forks we were given to begin with! Then my partner ordered the ribs (which were amazing, melt off the bone), I asked the waitress whether he could have a bowl of water for his hand & she looked at me like I’d asked her to crap in her hands and clap, then questioned what I want a bowl of water for with a sneer! If I’d asked for anything out of the ordinary I can understand the weird look or sneering comment, but a bowl of water with ribs is common practise I thought! I’m very tolerant of crap customer service because I get it, I do it daily and sometimes people have off days! But this young girl was rude and simply looked bored being there! I’m not expecting 5* service from a pub like the barge but I was appalled at being spoken to like I was. The other staff who we spoke to were very helpful and kind.

The pub itself was lovely and the food was good. That’s where the positives end. The camping field was scruffy with bits of rubbish strewn around, & empty bottles on the floor near the glamping tents area! Such a shame as that area has been made to look quite pretty & things like this let the place down. A random plate & a quilt were left on the floor by the fire the whole time we were there, right where new arrivals enter the site so no good impressions to be had there! The showers & toilets in the portacabin stank & were unclean and the showers in the pub were dirty too. Yuk! Each to there own, but we wouldn’t return

Sunday roast is sacred and this one didn't let us down. A lovely, convivial atmosphere, prompt service of a crisp sauvignon with a smile and completely Covid safe. The food, roast beef for me, was scrumptious, crisp roast potatoes, a light and fluffy Yorkshire, red...

I think The Barge Inn has a great positive atmosphere & all seem very friendly. It is a pub under fairly new management, so there are still areas that need working on both on the campsite & within the pub. But that's why building work...

Visited the Barge with friends this past weekend and what an amazing experience. The camp site welcome was friendly and informative, the guys have a smile from the start and the Breaking Bad camper put a smile on my face. The field was flat and mainly lovely, green grass, who needs a bowling green when camping eh. The showers and facilities were spot in and clean with hand sanitizer at each toilet, they even have a washing machine and tumble dryer for a small donation. The new barn adjacent to the pub was looking fabulous and the toilets in there are like something from a swanky London hotel..pub was as welcoming as any ive been to and covid regulations were strict and adequate. Go today, don't delay a fantastic gem in a uncertain world

Very welcoming and friendly, thats both the staff and the locals who seem to be mostly boaters. Splendid beer. Campsite with a massive firepit which makes for that rare community feeling. Dog friendly. Only stayed one night must resolve to return because this remote corner of Wiltshire is a lovely part of the world.

I booked here as they have a pub on site which could be useful.when I arrived I thought I would be checking in at the pub but when I got there I was asked to drive through the open gate. I did this and was in shock as they use a old motor home and a home made parasol with a dirty table for there reception, and this staff are like hippies.I was shown to my pitch and the grass was not cut it was 5 inches long with mud patches and very uneven.I dropped my caravan and went for something eat for lunch,it was horrible burnt chips they looked like old chip just put in warm fat they were horrible. When I asked for Doom bar beer as I could the pump was told no Doombar no beer but he said he could get me a beer from outside, when it arrived what I got was flat beer which I couldn't drink.i was told they are short on drinks as only open the day before. what with burnt chips and flat beer I was not impressed. We went back to the van to set up and in the evening I had booked a table so tried it again, the beer was a little better but still horrible burnt chips. We were told they have entertainment outside in the evening, but never thought still people partying at 4am in the morning. We met the cook the following day and she is only a young girl,no chef.we told her about the chips and she said maybe she will have to try turning the fat down a bit. Sunday we ate in the van and went over to the pub at 8pm only to find it shut. We ate out some nights as I wouldn't trust going to there pub again for a meal, but on the Thursday evening got back at 9.30 pm and was told they don't allow cars off site after dark which should be on their website. With these rules is like a prison, so I left there early as could not take anymore of the place.

Myself and 4 friends have just had a fabulous weekend at the Barge. The whole team on the campsite and pub alike are friendly and so welcoming nothing is too much trouble. We just couldn't tear ourselves away so stayed an extra night on Sunday eve. Ate in the pub Friday Saturday and Sunday and all our meals were delicious and very reasonably priced. The facilities included loos and showers were kept spotless throughout the weekend and the other campers were so friendly and all respectful of social distancing. A most relaxing funny beautiful birthday weekend. Like to say thankyou Dylan Lenny and Amelia feels like we made some new friends this weekend and all of you at the Barge we can't wait to return many times. I only have one regret and that is I didn't know about The Barge before ... one of our friendly neighbours told me they have been going for 13 years and find themselves there most weekends! I've been missing out all these years.Michelle x

Great staff very accommodating, lovely local beer and food, albeit a bit hit and miss on the menu, only recently reopened, and covid rules.I do think the menu is expensive no children’s menu would be a big expense for a family (I did see a frozen food lorry making a delivery,so potentially not all cooked from scratch)....but I definitely would recommend and would love to return.

Bar staff were friendly but the food cost a fortune £10 for a small fish and chips and we we waiting outside in the cold without any outside heaters and when we went back to our friends tent the next day as the decided to camp we were rudely told to F**K off!!! By the young girl and bought her dog with her we weren’t happy with the campsite staff also it smelt a lot like illegal drugs definitely didn’t feel welcome we even offered to pay to stay on for the evening to keep it even but still no and ruined the whole weekend and the field was over crowded for the virus if they were taking it seriously they should have spread out into the empty field next door.

After finding a mooring, circumvented the nettles and strolled up to the pub for the Sunday Roast. Place was fairly crowded and some of the options were not available, but sat down for pre dinner drinks. Got chatting with a boater family who were a little alternative, traders on the canal. Fascinating stories, Really enjoyed it. Meals arrived, and no complaints about the quantities and flavours. All this was of course before the dreaded Covid problem. This place had recently been reopened and was seemingly very popular. Top marks to a great canal side establishment,

Visited here today, nice little place next to the canal, there's a little food trailer outside as there is no inside seating. On the .Gov website it states they are taking part in the "eat out to help out" scheme, they're clearly not! Very disappointed, we all love a bargain but £8 for a small tray of chilli chips?.....Avoid!

From the moment I was greeted on Friday morning, I felt welcome here. In a wonderful setting alongside the canal, the camping site is large and very popular - but throughout I never felt that my personal space was invaded. Saturday night there was a bit of a party going on with one group - but as soon as someone raised that with the site manager, probably because it was 9pm and kids would have been trying to get to sleep, he acted immediately and shut it down. You can't really ask for more. There was some 'official' music - but that was kept at a very low level. The outside bar provides good beer, the food hut provides great fish & chips on a Friday night, lovely breakfast a\s well - or you can walk down the canal a little way, cross over and pop to the equally wonderful Honeystreet cafe. No hesitation in recommending this site. It is Great - thank you, guys. Phil.

No social distancing. This site apitamises everthing that is wrong in the uk and why Covid numbers are increasing. Full of chavs and want a be hippies. Nobody is turned away and no space available. High Noise levels till 5 in the morning. The police should be called and the site wardens arrested for raming people in. Sooo many large groups of people who think it’s ok to make as much noise as possible with no boundaries. Just because you are fat doesn’t mean you have to be loud !!! Never again. Came away a night early .

Used to come here in the heyday of crop circle mania. Was always an amazing place to spend a few hours while exploring the local hills and fields. Went very downhill after several dodgy owners, but new owners (since May 2019) have brought back the old friendly vibe.Lovely choice of local beers and friendly staff. Nice to see the old crop circle mural has been kept and updated too...

Lovely place and friendly people. Sadly we were really disappointed with the parking. We understand that the site is not accessible because of the weather. However we were parked in amongst broken down vans and random cars. Perhaps it would be better to close for the winter and tidy things up a lot before you get more bad reviews. It’s a lovely venue and we’d consider coming back once all the building work is finished and we were able to get onto site. Couldn’t find any fresh water or waste not worth £8 per person sorry

A strange clientele as others have explained. But the atmosphere is delightful, almost unique. We went on a cold early December late morning for lunch. We were warmly welcomed and given excellent service. The food was straightforward good cooking. We both chose the festive ploughman’s for £8.50. The plate was overflowing with thick slices of prime ham, turkey, cheese and masses of salad accompanied by good bread and butter. Amazing value. I asked for mustard, which was English and fresh. The selection of beer is excellent. Can’t wait to return, crop circles or not.

Not been to this place for years. Arrived early at lunchtime and the service was somewhat disjointed. If you have a beard, a ponytail and wear cheesecloth ethnic-print leggings, you’ll fit right in here. That said, the place has a friendly atmosphere and a varied menu. There is a handful of canal barges moored alongside the pub. The food was okay. In summary, it was a weekday in the winter, I’m guessing this place is a gem of a place in the summer...

Met some friends as approx 50 mins for the four of us to meet there from our homes. Haven't been for a couple of years since we camped there one evening. Lunch was served quickly and was fine. No complaints. Not sure we would meet to eat again but we will return to camp and enjoy music when the sun reappears as it needs to be warm to add to the enjoyment & environment of this fabulous location.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.

Stopped off for a late lunch/early dinner. So much to choose from. Had the steak and ale pie with mash and the steak and kidney pudding with mash. Both delicious, hot and plentiful. Amazing value for money. Staff very attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Lovely place for families, dog friendly too. 5 star on all fronts.
