What a lovely find!!! Good home cooked food (can highly recommend the risotto and cottage pie). Service was lovely too, the staff smiley, warm and welcoming. The farm shop is great to browse through too - picked up some yummy pork scratchings. 😋

We have just had a wonderful meal at the old inn, we met as a group of friends with a little baby. Two of us had roast dinner and it was very tasty, with a nice selection of vegetables, lots of tender meat and very tasty gravy. The other adults in the group had the venison and duck and again the food was very tasty and nicely presented. The puddings were lovely, good portion size and home made. The food was great and the service was good too. We will definitely be back again soon.

We just came back from the all you can eat curry night that was advertised. It was a lovely evening, attentive and professional staff who spent the time to say hi to our son and have a general chit chat. Nothing was too much when we requested hot water to heat up our son’s pouch, which we were very grateful of! The buffet was a fair price and was lovely, a good range of food on offer, the mint chutney was zingy and made your mouth water. A few more stars of the show for me were the lamb rogan Josh and the grilled seabass. All the curries were flavourful and the meat tender. Definitely a not so hidden gem off the A38 and well worth trying out if you are ever passing by.

On looking at my previous reviews I see it is a decade since my last visit and obviously it has changed hands since then. The place is still shabby and lacking in atmosphere and there is a damp smell lingering throughout the building. Somehow the building seems wrong but I can't really explain that one away and it is not the fault of the management. Whichever way you look at it the place seems unfriendly and not helped by the various people I spoke to either. Not rude exactly but dismissive and disinterested. We had the carvery but I have to say it didn't look much like the photos on their social media page. The cauliflower cheese was nice but everything else seemed a bit tasteless. The meat was edible but I can't say that about the roast potatoes which didn't taste of anything and the bigger ones were hard in the middle so I left them. My husband also left half of his cider as he said it tasted 'off'. Interestingly my review of their carvery all those years ago also criticised the roast potatoes which were not even brown then, surely it is not that hard to roast potatoes? I appreciate different chefs were involved so maybe it is the oven. The place was not very busy which says a lot considering all the local carveries are often fully booked but maybe it was because we went quite late. There are cheaper and better carveries nearby so would I go back, possibly in another ten years time but not any time soon.

Excellent breakfast - note I declined fried egg. I was disappointed with the sausage as it seemed processed, lacking texture, rather than being local produce, but overall my breakfast was hot and tasty. Opens at 10:30 for a late breakfast, ideal on this cold January day, before a walk in the park. The Orangery is a big echoing space and can be very noisy inside, but the food is always great, interesting and tasty. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed.
