I had Hunters chicken! Usually you get a nice big chicken breast with bacon & cheese. I got 2 mini dry hard chicken fillets...just awful For £18 this is unacceptable. Table are squashed together you can touch the table next too you. Half the table was cleared. 20 minutes later the other half was cleared.

Started with Leak and potato soup with crispy bread I had the chicken burger which was all wonderfully presented and very tasty. The rest of the party had different dishes but plenty for vegetarians. Service was attentive. Little did I realise the service was to improve even more after we left the pub. One of the party drove into a ditch and some of the staff saw. They came racing out to help and the chef new someone who was able to come round in their 4 wheel drive and pull us out. Thank you so much. You went well and beyond helping us. They wouldn't even accept any money.

Been a far few years since I’ve been to this pub and was pleasantly surprised who busy it was . Nice pub, pleasant staff good service. Just had a quick lunch which was soap and pate. Both very nice , not cheap! Did have to ask for more toast as I had a good portion of pate but not half enough toast to eat it with. Slightly disappointing, how much is bread !! Will return but only if we are passing.

I stopped at The White Horse for lunch during a circular day walk taking in White Horse Hill and The Ridgeway. The pub was quiet on a Thursday lunchtime but I received a warm welcome from Michelle the landlady. The food was excellent, and in particular the chips were some of the best I’ve ever eaten! Chunky, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle - absolutely perfect. I’d highly recommend it for anyone visiting White Horse Hill.

Shame….. used to be good. Was bitterly disappointed, have eaten here as a family several times and had a lovely meal. Unfortunately this time we visited as a couple the day before Christmas Eve and it was terrible. Didn’t help that the head chef was downing double whiskeys at the bar in front of us while we were waiting a long time for our food. When food eventually arrived (pork belly) it got sent back as was so over cooked and looked more like a dog chew then human food. Such a shame, front of house dealt with it well and reflected it in the bill but unfortunately my husband went without a meal. We won’t be returning. Lovely setting but unfortunately found the food a major let down.

Also, the choice for children is not the best. Eaten here many times over the past few years, and have never had a problem before however when visiting Thursday the 14th of June our experience wasn't as good. We order two pizzas the Tuna and the Rustic with lovely! we also ordered the garlic flat bread, it clearly states on the menu it is "served with 6 prawns and two drips" for £8.25 or for 12 prawns it would cost £16. we order the regular one however when it arrived (quite awhile later, and was not busy at all) it didn't come with the prawns or the dips, we left it and though when someone checked on us we could let them know, wasn't a massive issue as was pretty full from the pizzas. When we went to pay we noticed an "open pizza" on the bill costing £12.50, we questioned this and were met with a hostile reaction. The waitress I believe her name was Romonia (not sure if that is how its spelt?) she stated we had only order the regular, which we agreed with her we did however on the menu it clearly says under the name it is served with prawns and dips. She then called over her male college who said we ordered the large without prawns, as it was the other server who took our order not sure show he came to this conclusion.. so apparently because we ordered this we had been charged £12.50 however there is nothing on the pizza menu that is £12.50?! neither of the options for this garlic flat bread where this price. He instructed the other waitress to take it off the bill, we tried to insist we were happy to pay something but as we didn't get the pawns and dips we felt that £12.50 was high! The female server rolled her eyes at us and rudely slammed the new bill in font of us, I am a waitress myself and have worked in the industry for 7 years, because of this i am very understanding to others, but the way she talked to us and did not handle this professionally i was really taken aback. We did leave a tip as we felt we wanted to pay something towards the pizza and the food was good.I feel the owner should have been there as this server cleanly was new and didn't know how to handle this situation correctly, and staff should not just be left to get on with it.

Well what has happened to this pub since we last visited? We were so looking forward to returning here, and we were really disappointed with the food, and drink. My Bloody Mary had no spice, and the roast platter we were so eager to have again was not on the menu. Can't say too much about the starters except to say they were boring. My husband had the roast pork, which took forever to come out of the kitchen, and it had no crackling, so he had to ask for some. My son and I had roast beef, which was nice and rare, but that is all I can compliment the main course about. We all ran out of gravy half way through the plate of roast dinner. We were so underwhelmed that we didn't stay for pudding. Such a shame as this used to be so popular and busy, and while still busy, the pub lacked the usual buzz. We won't be going here again.

The seafood is brought in fresh from a supplier in Cornwall so you cannot do better than that! Shaun the landlord made us very welcome & the staff could not have been more attentive. The pub is lovely, in a quiet village, close to the famous White Horse Hill, yet only 7 miles from Swindon, so easily accessible. Same great pub, friendly staff, although little attention, but food fell flat a bit. In no rush arriving at 7.00 but long delay with main meal shortly before 9.00. Pie was nice inside but burnt top and "seasonal vegetables" amounted to one stem of broccoli. Lamb dish had some veg listed missing and whole presentation was rather drab to be honest and just not what we expected here. Pastel de pescado y una hamburguesa. pedimos . . ¡Terrible!

Beautiful setting, good service, great food. Need to cut the music; too loud and inappropriate otherwise excellent.

A traditional nicely decorated English country pub. A great place to meet family & friends. Lovely garden. Good food & ales (whitebait needs to be more crispy).

Staying in the local area we decided to meet up with other family members for an evening meal and catch-up. Knowing this pub does food from Wednesday through to Sunday lunchtime decided this would be a good place to visit. We booked and arrived just on opening time and was met with a very welcoming greeting by the bar person. Once we placed our order, in a very short space of time the starter course arrived, and on completion of this and table cleared, again the main meals arrived well presented and hot. The pricing was well within most budgets and with the specials board there is a good variety to choose from concidering the size of the village. Definitely on future visits this is a place on the list for food.

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

We visited the Riveria for lunch today, our first visit for 8 years and I have to say that I was very disappointed. I ordered cod and chips at a hotel next to the sea but I was given a piece of battered fish straight out of the "Bird's Eye" mould and not freshly cooked as I expected from a hotel of some repute. This was nowhere near the quality I enjoy regularly from my local Wetherspoons!
