We had prebooked for the Sunday lunch roast which was roast beef. No starter but it took them 50 minutes to serve at a time that did not seem to be too busy and when there seemed to be plenty of staff about. The beef was absolutely disgusting - dry, grossly overcooked and inedible. Just like shoe leather. Astonishing when we noticed other servings coming out pink. We drew attention to the state of these meals and they offered a replacement but frankly by then we were too tired of the wait and grappling with this awful meal that we declined. It is quite extraordinary that a professional chef (if that is what she/he is) would allow food in this state to be served from their kitchen. The staff reduced the bill but a shocking experience when had been looking forward to a decent Sunday roast. Never again!

This is a beautiful café set in a stunning formal garden of the Mount Edgecombe Park and gardens. Inside the Georgian orangery it is spacious, comfortable and is the perfect place to have a coffee in a grand historical building with character and atmosphere. Nothing like a Starbucks that charge so much for little service and cleanliness. Outside on a sunny day are a row of tables with umbrellas to enjoy the garden more. The toilets are new and very clean with individual rooms. The only drawback is that it can be booked for weddings so ring ahead to make sure that it's open to the public.

We had a great cream tea in the Orangery. The sun was shining and the gardens and fountain directly outside were looking magnificent. A big thanks to Zoe and the staff who were very friendly and helpful as my two friends had some mobility issues. Having cream tea in delightful surroundings was a pleasure I can highly recommend with top marks for the scones, the best I've had. Afterwards I strolled along the path with views across the estuary to Plymouth whilst my friends recovered from the feast!

Since having an Afternoon Tea here 6 years ago, we now visit on my birthday for a Cream Tea. The scones are the best we have tasted. That includes scones I've had at a famous London store recently. Myself and my husband went to the orangery for afternoon tea. I'm vegan and despite there being no vegan afternoon tea on the menu the kitchen were able to prepare a bespoke meal for me, the food was delicious and the staff made me feel like it was no problem at all. The lady I spoke with when booking and who served us (Zoe, I think) was so welcoming and helpful.

One of our favourite places to eat, the food is always top quality, delicious and beautifully presented. Today we had the burger&fries and it was gorgeous, fresh juicy burger and the most tasty chips with a tomato chutney which was a refreshing change to ketchup! Incredible location, beautiful building, and gardens. Just like a lot of venues with this advantage, hospitality suffers. Just because it's pretty and grand, that doesn't mean you can give terrible customer service and charge the earth for it. Stood at the bar for 5 minutes watching the barman faff about. I respect the fact you're busy, but what happened to "Hello, sorry I'll be right with you, how's your day going, hot out isn't it"? Ignored for 5 minutes, I get Mumble McMonotone, who takes my order. After waiting 10 minutes for drinks to be made, I'm sent to my table. I ordered a Cornish sharing cheeseboard, which arrived on a small chopping board. Along with a ciabatta, which by the look of it was sat on during the baking process. "Didn't have bri, so put in a different cheese. Dunno what they all are.." and the waiter walked inside....wonderful. For £15 I had infront of me a small selection of unknown cheeses, some grapes, some pickled onion and a butter knife. Just some friendly advice; there's this thing called a cheese knife which was invented because a butter knife (for butter) isn't sharp enough to slice small wedges of cheese. Which makes sharing it quite difficult. 2 drinks, 3 small pieces of unknown cheeses, some grapes, flatbread and terrible service = £25. But there's a nice garden, so treat your customers however you like 👍🏻

Went for afternoon tea on a busy August (summer holidays) day. Was busy when we arrived so began queuing until I asked the question about having already made a booking for afternoon tea earlier and if we had to queue. Promptly serviced, a very very lovely member of staff assisted me immediately. However since I stated that we wanted to sit outside to eat it - I had to manually select what sandwiches we wanted, the scones and drinks. If we sat inside would this have been chosen for us? I’m not sure but either way wasn’t an issue, actually enjoyed the choice and made it very personalised. So thank you. Afternoon tea is £19 per person which is pretty steep. For what you get - 6 finger sandwiches, 3 of each kind. A small brownie topped with a raspberry, a small white cake pop ball, a small leek and cheese quiche and two average (over baked crispy) scones. Compared to China fleet club or other afternoon teas it was definitely on the small side yet pretty expensive. Service was great which made up for the very very average afternoon tea. Gardens are pretty to look at. However there are plenty of wasps when you are eating outside so you cannot enjoy your food in peace for longer than a few minutes. Not the fault of the staff but thoroughly ruined our meal which wasn’t even too great to begin with. Scones were overcooked as mentioned already which meant they were crunchy when eaten. Overall average but wouldn’t go back! If you do go, don’t sit outside to eat as one of the waitresses said, the wasps live or nest just over the hedges so unfortunately there’s nothing you can do about it!

Absolutely wonderful place. The staff were friendly and approachable. Was very busy (as expected during august). We were told the food would be awhile due to it being so busy, however the food arrived in no time. It was delicious and beautifully served. I expected the bill to be larger than it was due to the perfect location and gorgeous surroundings but was pleasantly surprised. All of the family were pleased - especially with the pudding! I was apprehensive after reading some reviews but really is worth both the trip there and the wait time (if there is any). Catherine, Zoe and Max were the only names I caught that day but them and all the staff deserve a well done. Absolutely fabulous afternoon thank you.

However I’m NOT impressed that on our arrival we were told that we would have to eat outside because I was not wearing a mask. Staff member insisted that we couldn’t eat inside. I am exempt and told her this. We were then allowed to go to an inside table. How about not even questioning your guests who are not wearing a face covering instead of turning it into an issue? If masks are so important why weren’t you all wearing them at the height of the pandemic in March? How ridiculous too that you want them worn to walk to the table then they can be removed. Absolute nonsense.

Mount Edgecombe is a beautiful place to visit, but the afternoon tea at the Orangery was nothing special. The venue is lovely but we were disappointed that the afternoon tea was not presented in the traditional way as advertised (finger sandwiches, with crusts removed). We were given bog standard sandwiches cut in triangles and they were very average. I asked for more hot water as the tea was too strong, and was given a jug with no handle which was very difficult to pick up because it was scalding hot. We were charged extra for lattes coffee, although the waitress did not say there was an additional cost. The staff were the same as you would find in any self service restaurant - doing their job but not going the extra mile. The savoury tart was a nice surprise as it was delicious. Although the scones were small compared to most venues that we have visited, they were very good. I am a fan of most chocolate, but I couldn't eat the white chocolate truffle as it was not pleasant. I would like to add that the warm chocolate brownie was the best I have ever tasted.

If your website says you are only closed on Christmas day and Boxing day then surely you should be open on New Years day. Very disappointing when we made a special trip today, having checked to see if you would be open. Poor show especially as it is tourist season. Won't bother again.

A very lovely place but cold. We all kept our coats on throughout the meal. The meal was a smaller portion to what we are used to. Quite expensive too. I would not go back in the winter months. Maybe the warmer months would be better?

Mum and I unexpectedly paid a visit this afternoon and decided to have a Cornish cream tea... wow... the scones are absolutely amazing! I’d happily say the best I’ve ever tasted, compliments to the chef!! Plenty of jam and cream and happy to top up the tea pot with more water... we will be back again soon. Thankyou

We quite often get the Cremyll ferry across from Plymouth, have a walk with the dog and stop in, the coffee and cake is always really good!

Lovely cafe in grounds of Mount Edgecumbe. Very interesting menu and lovely coffee for a treat as rather expensive but worth it. Situated in the houses old orangery with outdoor seating overlooking a lawn and garden with fountain.

Okay so I haven’t visited the orangery but I don’t have to. Can hear their wedding/function music loud as can be from my house (I live in cremyll). Go on it’s a wedding have fun but if I can hear it from here I’m suprised they have ears to hear with at all and they haven’t been blown off. Wouldn’t bug me so much but I’ve had the music blaring at 2300hrs and later on nights I’ve had very important exams on the next day. This is also a very quiet area where a lot of elderly people live to relax. People may read this and think I’m the grinch of weddings and having fun and by all means think that but it isn’t the case we live here because it’s a quiet beautiful excluded area where we can sit on our front step at night watch the bass and listen to owls and crickets. That’s tranquillity.

Lovely surroundings wonderful building let down by staff stood in que for ages while four staff members milled around only one actually serving. Was going to have a cream tea but overheard the customer in front told it would be a hour and a half wait hoe long does it take to put jam cream and scones on a plate. Plus to eat in is very pricey in future take my own food to Mount Edgecome.

We stopped for an ice cream while on the search for our car keys which we lost on the beach!! 🤦🏽♀️ The rum and raisin ice cream was AMAZING and no complaints from the kids and hubby with their choices! The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x

Been coming here for many years, it is an absolute joy every time we come for a meal. Today me and my mother came for afternoon tea and everything was delicious and delectable, as it always is. The service is absolutely flawless, all the staff are exceptional and extremely welcoming, especially the manager. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a perfect meal out.

Beautiful building. Amanda the barmaid/waitress was very helpful and friendly. My family had the ham egg and chips, which was outstanding. I had fish and chips, the fish was delicious and fresh. The puddings were sinful and beautifully made.

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.
