Ordered takeaway tonight, chef was very polite. Taking the food back to our holiday cottage, only 2 min walk away. Food was stunning, salt + pepper squid, and a 10oz burger, chips were tasty, fluffy and gorgeous. Highly recommend. Awesome. Thank you for a lovely meal. 👍👍

After a long walk from Looe, this small family restaurant was a lucky find especially that some of other places were closed at 3pm on Monday until later in the afternoon. We were warmly welcomed, well fed and helped with some taxi phone numbers recommendations. Portions are generous and prices are reseasonable. Menu has good and varied options including some vegetarian dishes and all day breakfast. We had eggs, veg sausages and chips; ham and eggs and chips and filo pastry prawns. We were all happy with our food. Apart from soft drinks, they have a few alcohol options.

Great place for food and drinks. We had breakfasts all round and it was delicious best breakfast we’ve had in a long time. Would definitely recommend.

Dirty tables and no toilets. Told to use the public ones at 50p each. Unfriendly staff with a rude attitude. Won't be back

We used the Wheelhouse café in Polperro Harbour on a Friday afternoon in May during a weeklong visit to Cornwall. We drove to Polperro and there is a very large (pay & display) car park within easy walking distance (about ½ a mile), of the harbour. Having been exploring the harbour area, we stopped off for a cup of tea / coffee at what appears to be a very understated café. The café is not large and the lack of windows makes it appear quite dim after the bright sunshine outside. However, it did have a welcoming atmosphere about it. The café has inside and a limited amount of outside seating available and we managed to get an outside table as the previous couple vacated it giving us a splendid view of the harbour in which to enjoy our drinks. I ordered the drinks inside and the waitress brought them to the table quite promptly, the drinks were reasonably priced and appreciated after our walk around the harbour. Overall, it was a nice experience watching the world pass by with a Cornish fishing harbour as a backdrop.

Cant comment on the food as we only had coffees but other people were tucking into large, tasty looking breakfast. Atmosphere nice, good music and a friendly owner

Overlooking the harbour in Polperro. Lovely small cafe. The coffee was was very good , had two Lattes. Order a bacon sandwich and a sausage sandwich on white. The bread was fresh and thick, held together well. The sausage was good but bacon was excellent. It was salty and thick, full of flavour. Highly recommend for a breakfast stop.

Value for money and the best breakfast we've had in a long time- it even included a duck egg! Nice people too.

Fantastic food! Friendly host! A wonderful place to stop for lunch. There was something on the menu for everyone in our party (2 couples). I had the vegetarian breakfast and it was delicious!

Came here as a tourist two weeks ago, and got the full English breakfast they served. It came 20 minutes after we ordered which we didn’t mind too much. The black pudding was not ready yet and was served a few minutes later which I saw was a bit unorganised but at least they made the effort. From where I was sat I had a clear view into the kitchen and was not pleased to see the bloke who was clearly quite greasy and dirty walk over to us to say this; ‘sorry but I have been cooking for the last 2 and a half hours and I need a cigarette break’. Lovely. I’ve always been a non-smoker but I don’t think anyone would like to hear that being said especially when your food is already half done. The tatted and pierced up girl who was no older that 25, who served us was incredibly rude. We was talking to someone in the cafe who we saw beforehand, and mid conversation swept over to us to simply say ‘you want two pots of tea, or just a large one’. I can’t verbally describe me and my fathers thoughts at what she did but to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. My last objection is that we had ordered scones when ordering the breakfasts which was indeed supposed to come after the breakfasts were served, but instead it was arrived when the unprepared black pudding came out. I even came to the conclusion that this was a real life rendition of Basil Fawlty’s Fawlty Towers Hotel. I would just avoid this restaurant as it clearly has a lot of knowledge on disorganisation and customer dissatisfaction, the chavy and thick minded waitress covered in tats and piercings was enough to put me off excluding the fact that she was rude and very unwelcoming.

Waited more than 10 minutes to be served only to realise the waitress and chef were sitting outside smoking. Left straight away!

Very welcoming staff, breakfast was amazing. You can even have a ducks egg instead of a hens egg, which I chose as I love duck eggs. Produce was really good and some good music in the background. Nice and clean inside. Will definitely be visiting again …

We went to Polpero as Tourist, looking for a traditional fish and ship as this is a old fisher town . I trusted in this good looking place because it is located a few yard from the fish market and we had a really expensive frozen fish and chips. Really disappointed and ruined our celebration for Mother’s Day. Also no toilet.

We visited the Wheelhouse while we were visiting Polperro and the gentleman running it was friendly and courteous. The cream tea was big and tasted great! My only moan was it had no customer toilet but the gentleman's charm won me over!

Took 30 minutes for a cup of coffee

Great breakfast, the lady front of house was rushed off her feet, but was very polite and attended to us promptly. Food was good, full english was tasty and done very well, sausages were the deep fried ones, but didn’t detract from enjoying the breakfast. Cup of tea was great, they use decent teabags, makes the difference for tea drinkers! Final word, the cook (and I believe owner) was working extremely hard in a hot kitchen and was still polite, friendly and talkative when bringing out the breakfasts and chatting at the end, enjoy your week off in October (Valencia if your son has anything to do about it 😜)

Very welcoming staff. We came in for a late breakfast while on holiday, and was pleasently surprised with the service we recieved from the Wheelhouse. Food was delicious, would definitely recommend the visit.

We'd seen good reviews for The Wheelhouse so made a beeline for it. Food arrived promptly. Good size portions, but pretty run of the mill sausages and fishcakes. Cafe rather than restaurant. Wouldn't go back, particularly as they don't have loos. Had to pay 50p at public loos down the road. Waitress could do with updating customer service skills.

Fantastic service. Gluten free chips, outdoor seating, the best home made scones we've ever had (we've had plenty!) highly recommend.

On a rainy, miserable day on our holidays we entered a very busy wheelhouse to be met by fantastic service and food! Homemade soup was delicious and my husbands full breakfast was amazingly cooked and plentiful! The staff were attentive and friendly and the prices were extremely reasonable. Great service and lovely tearoom. Definitely recommend 5*

Decided to eat here as it looked so pretty and we were not disappointed. So quaint and small , the lady serving us was so nice and friendly. The only other person working was the chef, the food was well presented and oh so tasty definitely recommend the burgers, the sandwiches were made with fresh bread that was sliced to order and the filling spilled out! Four of us ate and decided it was our favourite meal out of the week, also great views of the harbour .

The Wheelhouse has great food, especially breakfast, and great service too. It's dog-friendly which is important to us.

Popped in to get a takeaway on our first night in Polperro. Food was lovely - we all made the mistake of going for the ‘large’ version of various burgers and ended up having to leave a fair bit as we simply couldn’t eat it...

We had a wild boar burger and fishcakes for take away. Both were delicious! Fantastic portions, great food and lovely service.

We have had two takeaways and both have been delicious. Good quality ingredients always win out. Thanks for making the first week after lockdown a pleasure. Polperro is definitely open for business.

A lovely little cosy cafe that served the most amazing breakfast and coffee Was most welcome after a tiring nearly 7hour journey to Polperro while waiting for accommodation. Very friendly and approachable staff and lovely view out onto the harbour. We will definitely visit again.

Nice to sit outside (small on the inside) and overlook the harbour. My husband had a nice breakfast and I had a nice scone, clotted cream and jam.

Beautiful welcome from staff. Very nice, cozy little restaurant with gorgeous decor. Loved the experience I had at this establishment. Ordered scones, with jam and clotted cream. They were out of this world and the scones were a little hot, very yummy and fresh. Cream was amazing too. Totally recommend this place for a quick stop over for indulging these beauties. They even offered us free tea with the scones purchased. Total delight!!

Great Fish Cake and Chips, but the unfortunately the glasses were quite dirty and we had to drink out of the bottle.

Great location on the harbour edge and good, friendly service. Not the quickest service but the food is worth the wait. Everything from a light snack to a sturdy meal.

Went there this morning and the location cannot be faulted, wish I could say the same for the breakfast. My wife and I ordered a vegetarian breakfast and a large breakfast, think it was called a skipper. Other half really did not enjoy veggie breakfastand...

We stopped at the wheelhouse for a coffee and to soak up the beautiful views. The coffee was not even drinkable. There were four of us and we had black coffee and lattes.

The position of the café / restaurant is lovely being right near the harbour and the food is very competitively priced.Portion size is generous and the service is fairly prompt so no actual issues, I just feel like it needs a little bit of a shot in the arm to have more of a buzz about it.

Three of us ate at this harbour side cafe, a cream tea, a bacon and sausage butty and a bacon butty. The food was excellent, fresh an d tasty. My bacon butty was the best I have ever eaten, and I am fussy about my bacon. Friendly staff.

Lovely food and service, can definitely recommend. Village car park expensive but the friendly Landlord kindly said he would accommodate us if we returned which we will do if ever in the area.

We had just a couple of cups of coffee here inside. Unfortunately there were no tables outside. The coffee was good. The only thing is there were crumbs on the table and the tablecloth needed wiping!

Went a couple of times and had breakfast, good service and nice food, dog friendly too bonus, enjoyed it worth giving it a try for your breakfast or lunch etc, beware though no toilets, but the public toilets are not too far away

We had a lovely lunch here whilst visiting the area. We all shared a seafood platter which was really tasty and had lots of choice.

Having travelled for over 6 hours from Kent the craving for a crab sandwich was overpowering, having settled for the wheelhouse (my first visit to Porperro) I was not disappointed, great fresh flavour spot on service and a nice cider. Good work all around guys.

Great fry up with a beautiful view. The Wheelhouse is situated in the perfect location to sit in the sun and view the harbour. All food is served promptly and with a smile.

Both my partner and I agreed that the bacon sandwiches were simply the best we have ever tasted. Warm friendly service too. Thank you very much indeed.

Lovely restaurant, table service and good food. Deckhand meals for the grown ups and Cabin-boy/cabin-girl meals for the kids.

Almost everytime we walked passed this place in the time we were here, there were various staff members standing outside smoking and chatting amongst themselves. They finish their cigarettes and then stub them out on the floor near the bin. The guy who cooks the food smokes then doesn't wash his hands before he starts to recook. It really doesn’t look good. If this were my business, I would be having stern words. I would advise anyone not to eat in this grubby place, as looks are very deceiving!

Whenever we visit Polperro we always stop in the wheelhouse and are never disappointed. The food is delicious and plenty. The staff friendly and it is super clean. We cannot wait to come back.

Went in for a couple of sandwiches and coffee. We have eaten here a few times over the last few years and it did not disappoint. Crab sandwich to die for.

It was a bit chilly for us outside.. our dogs were welcome inside.. my husband had a crab sandwich served with crisps and salad...he said it was ok. I had a gluten free breakfast, it was not the best I had eaten, and not the worst either..some items seemed not to be cooked fresh for me.

Great coffee . Great breakfast . Any nearer the harbour and you have fish nibbling your toes . Very friendly service .

Set in the beautiful Polperro The Wheelhouse serves a variety of fresh local seafood. The restaurant has a good vibe and if you are lucky enough to have good weather and sit outside even better.

This place is ok - but with the great harbour side location it should be better than that. There is plenty of potential- clean and tidy decor but no atmosphere or welcome to the place.

Staying in Polperro we had seen this place and the tables outside. We decided to have coffee in there one day and liked the look of it and the breakfast menu so decided to go back for brunch. Really friendly staff, happy to switch tomatoes to beans (when some places are funny about switching items on a set menu), the granary bread was really tasty. In fact it was all great.Would visit again and recommend.Love decor too!

Spent a long weekend in Polperro with my mum last weekend. Staying a 30 second walk from the wheelhouse meant a bacon sandwich every day ! Food Cooked to perfection every time. A very warm welcome from Phil and the staff on every visit. I highly recommend the wheelhouse - a lovely location and atmosphere. Thank you.

Visited the Wheelhouse on two occasions last week We had a cappuccino and a tea on both occasions which were very good on both occasions. What really stood out were the staff they were so friendly and helpful. Whilst we didn't eat the food that we saw being served looked very appetising. Great location, well worth a visit

Unfortunately, this place definitely relies on its location for custom. Our (poor quality) scones were microwaved, so went limp and stringy. The portion of clotted cream was small, and the strawberry jam seemed to be the cheapest supermarket fayre. The price was a pound more than the place we found around the corner which knocked spots off this one. It was especially disappointing considering Cornwall should be the place to go for a good cream tea (which it is - see our review of another place in Polperro). The kitchen staff looked bored and tired, which he may have been. I can't comment on their other food as we had nothing else but given what we did have, we won't be going back to try.

Just stopped in for a cuppa, received very friendly service, lovely spot by the water, great for people watching and enjoying the gorgeous views in Polperro.

We visited this restaurant whilst on holiday in Cornwall over easter. It was without a doubt the best squid I have ever eaten!! My husband had a burger and he has told everyone how delicious it was. The fact that all three children cleared their plates is the highest praise I can give!!If you're in Polperro you must eat here!!

We was staying the week in Polperro and come across this absolute find, the breakfast in this places is utterly outstanding the portion sizes are generous and the quality of the products are amazing, it was so good we had to stop in on our last day for seconds.

Decided to pop in for hot drinks late in the afternoon. This was the only cafe open on the harbour front. We sat out side and had a pleasant enough tea and coffee and teacakes. Older lady serving was ok until she got our order wrong and brought out too many drinks. We were fine, we were not over changed and we explained that we didnt order that many. At that point her whole demeaner changed, not aggressive, but just stroppy. She then sat behind us, lit up drank the extra coffee and proceeded to blow smoke over us. This combined with being able to overhear ( couldn't miss it as the doors were open) the local builder conversation as they were assessing up a job to refit the pottery shop next door and hearing them swearing every other word and making their true feeling about the tourists. If you hate us so much...why take our money?This was not a pleasant experience, but not the faulty of that cafe, just experienced on their premisesSuch a shame. Polperro is looking very dirty, tired and unloved at the moment with a large number of shops and restaurants closed. (Some for winter, I guess, but some having building works done, presumably for conversion to residential) Parking is £4 for 3 hours which is fine and to be fair, in line with rest of cornwall and you have to pay for the toilets at 20p. Again fine. I have no issue paying. I do have an issue when the mask slips and contempt fortourists is so obvious. Wont be back to Polperro anytime soon. I realise you will not miss our £30 anytime soon, but if enough DFL's ( down from London, apparently) stay away, you'll have a problem. Shame, been before and loved the place.
