One of the best cream teas we’ve experienced. This is a traditional cafe and yes a bit dated but more importantly it’s clean and the food was bang on. The owners were characters - don’t go if you don’t have a sense of humour - maybe go to somewhere that has no personality like Costa

If I could give minus stars I would. The place/cafe is the most horrific place I have had the misfortune of stepping into. It begins with sitting on plastic garden chairs inside with plastic table cloths. The owner then insults you and every customer past present and future. Myself and better half were both too shocked and polite to walk away. The cappuccinos and scones arrived we hoped this may redeem things no it got worse! We paid £3.75 for cappuccino each and found it was straight out of a packet the owner had not even filled the mug fully and most of the powder was still undissolved a third of the way down the mug, the scones were straight out of packet dry and about the size of a golf ball at £2.75 Terrible owner terrible atmosphere terrible food and drink total rip off. Read the bad reviews they are true anything above 1 star must be set up by owner truly horrendous.

Went into the cafe for a drink and asked for a can of coke.. Was told £1.50. Standard cafe prices so thought nothing more of it. My two friends also asked for the same. I offered to pay for all 3 there and then but the owner said pay after we had finished. We finished our drinks, I went in to pay and instead of the £4.50 I was expecting it was £8.10!!! I queried this obviously and was told it was because we drunk at his table outside. I have heard of adding on 20% service charge for eating in but that amount at nearly double is just scandalous! To top it all the drinks we had were all multi pack can drinks with labels on saying "not for re sale" so not only is he ripping everyone off he is breaking the law!

Turned up for an ice cream each. I waited in the shop to order to eat outside. Felt like I was invisible as someone pushed in front to buy postcards. Still being ignored..... the owner went outside and rudely asked my boyfriend if he was just gonna sit there or if he was going to order anything! His reply "my girlfriend has been inside for ages trying to order". Eventually two 1970 metal dishes turned up with two scoops of ice cream each in. Two spoons in, and there was a hair in my ice cream. I returned it and declined a replacement. Went to pay for the two edible scoops of ice cream.....£5:75. The owner muttered about the hair when I paid. He was downright rude. Won't be going back. Went there last year and the hot chocolate was poor and he had a poor taste in humour, should have learnt then.

£7.50 for two barista made coffees with a little biscuit on the saucer would be acceptable. The same price for two coffees made from (at a guess) cheap sachets of instant coffee is a rip off. It tasted bitter and I didn't drink mine. I for one will not be returning.

Lovely little spot on the moors with a lovely view however the food is very overpriced for what it is, £9 for a cheese toastie. Lovely location, friendly owners, warm welcome and quick service. However sadly the tea and coffee was not the nicest and the food was somewhat average and certainly over priced. Bought a light lunch consisting of 3x baked potatoes, garlic bread and 1x main meal and we hit nearly £60 with drinks. For what was a light lunch this is expensive even for a tourist location. By comparison we had similar the day before elsewhere for about £32. The many signs all over the place saying 'no sitting here with ice cream' and 'don't park here' and 'toilets for customers only etc. Create a rather unwelcome vibe and should probably go as this is contrary to what I think the owners are trying to achieve. Misjudged. Huge potential, easy fix.

We have been to this little tea room many times, mainly for the excellent ice cream. However I was shocked last week to be charged over £13 for 3 ice creams....one small scoop for the granddaughter and 2 doubles for myself and husband. And they were in bowls not cones! There is no justification for these prices, even though as we were told, it's very good and expensive ice cream. Unfortunately we won't be stopping there again.

The proprietor’s patter and vaguely bizarre commentary made me think that the Fast Show was probably more documentary than fiction. An apology for the malfunctioning cafetière was followed by an assurance that once the missing part was found it would be thrown at the offender.Unfortunately none of this could distract sufficiently from a ciabatta toasting that was unappetising thanks to bread that needed something a lot stronger than a serrated knife to cut through and a kind grey topping of bacon potato and onion I shall be making no attempt to replicate any time soon!

The Moor was brilliant and left us in need of some refreshment so we ordered tea for two and two ice creams. Had we known about the Hurlers Halt we wouldn’t have brought sandwiches to eat before our walk started. The ice creams were the best we’d had in Cornwall and were cheaper than in most places. The pot of tea was good too. The proprietors were very welcoming and the male proprietor was witty and very good natured. Extremely disappointing experience during a Cornish holiday.Owner was from Devon. Was making inappropriate, out-dated and foolish jokes to everyone who came in which was unnecessary and quite asinine. I am a good coffee lover and was treated as if I was a fool to ask for a flat white coffee with semi skimmed milk. Owner was rude to me, and we all had to suffer machine coffee which was totally under par and unpleasant to taste. Owner went on to joke about my request for a coffee to other people and was disrespectful to my nationality. Would never return!

Nice tea, excellent scones, fine Pasty. Good place to refresh after a wander to the Hurlers and Cheese Wheal stones. Has local info galore and owners are lovely and helpful

The Red River Inn is a lively, welcoming establishment, in the midst of Storm Darragh it provided a warm comfortable haven from the storm. The landlord is very friendly and accommodating. The food is excellent (compliments to the chef). There is a wide range of ales and lagers, many of them local, as you would hope. Thank you for looking after us, the dogs enjoyed their treats. We hope to return before too long..

The food really is excellent and the range of desserts quite outstanding. The service was very good, and everyone friendly and helpful. Very popular and rightly so.

Genuinely The very best fish and chips we’ve ever had, and all other food was spot on as well!!! I’d say this is a must visit spot for food if anywhere near here with family
