It’s ok A bit like an old aristocrat who has gone broke, i know my room is in the attic but the bathroom is tired the window frames are rotting. The worst part is the lack of WiFi which as a business traveler makes me question whether I would want to return. I imagine it was nice in its day On a positive great country location

Large family of three generations got together for Christmas lunch on Christmas Eve. Super food and very friendly, attentive service. Even when a big mistake was made with the bill, it was soon spotted by them as well as us and was sorted in a most convivial manner. Try their Sunday lunch. Well worth it.

Myself and 3 family members attended the Christmas Day lunch in 2019. We were very warmly welcomed by friendly staff and presented with a glass of champagne. There was a real coal fire burning in the entrance hall with a pianist playing in the background. After savouring the wonderfull ambience of the house we were ushered into the old library dining area. Tables were beautifully arranged with linen and personalised menu with complimentary chocolate selection and crackers. We enjoyed Avery impressive neal which was preceded by horsdoeuvres. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Kitley is on the up. I rated this as the best Christmas Day lunch experience I have ever had. My only observation was that real Christmas trees would have better complimented this beautiful country house and it's decor.

Our Plymouth family arranged and took us to Kitley House - a first for us & they chose very well. We were very well looked after from beginning to end and as there were a dozen or so of us they put us in a private room which was a nice touch. 3 courses and a glass of bubbly for £25 was great for me - food was all hot and plentiful, well cooked and decently presented - I really did think it was superb value for money and the service was exemplary. I seriously recommend it - its a beautiful building within parklands overlooking the river - a real good find for us! Looking forward to a return visit.

Kitley house is a regular visit for us as we got married here 4 years ago. Our last visit in February this year was outstanding. I am so disappointed that I am not about to write another amazing review. I paid for a room to hold my gender reveal get together with family. A week or so prior I gave our pre orders as requested, however not sure why I was asked to do that when we were constantly asked what had been ordered. It just seemed no one knew what they were doing. The service was very slow, I understand they may not have wanted to rush us but you still expect to be asked if everything was ok and if we were ready for our mains etc. No one was particularly attentive and the food was just placed down each time and we wernt asked if we enjoyed it. I’ve had better service in a pub. Not what I expect from Kitley. Really disappointed and my family felt the same. Thought the service lacked. Real shame. I also mentioned when I booked weeks in advance that one family member was gluten intolerant to which they said they could adapt any of his chosen meals. When his food was placed in front of him he double checked with the waitress if it was gluten free to which her reply was “should be but not sure”. It was all very odd. He was then told he could only have the sorbet for dessert. We then suggested how they could adapt the panacotta to be gluten free. I just thought perhaps this would have been something they would have been familiar with. Didn’t seem anyone really cared enough. What more can I say other than what a complete shame. ☹️

It was our parents 50th golden wedding anniversary and we had exclusive use of the Regency room. We were allowed to decorate the room. The lady looking after us was very helpful. there was 18 of us and we were having a mix of afternoon tea and cream teas. Everything was lovely. The scones came out warm😘 there was a good selection and plenty to eat, what was leftover was boxed up for us to take away. I would definitely recommend Kitley house for a celebratory afternoon tea🤗 all the staff were very helpful👏

What a beauty-hidden away down a 1 mile access road this superb hotel is a lovely gem 💎. We were there for the Diamond celebration of parents wedding anniversary and so glad that they chose this place. Reception was excellent and staff more than helpful. Service and food were top notch. Btw, house wine was a cheeky little number that shouldn’t be overlooked (both the red and the white). The grounds of the hotel are extensive and absolutely stunning views from our bedroom-the bedroom was adequate but for the time you spend in it. The bath towels were very large and fluffy and a good range of toiletries if you’ve not got your own. Breakfast was a generous portion and absolutely fabulous. We’d stayed in a Travelodge the night before and Kitley is by far the superior choice and better value, and certainly the place I would choose providing they have the rooms!

We booked afternoon tea to coincide with our visit to the Yealmpton Show. It was our first visit and the venue is stunning. Views from the house were amazing. The afternoon tea was lovely and the staff were very attentive and helpful. There was no problem refilling the teapot and getting more cream etc. The staff are very knowledgeable about the history of the house and pleased to provide information. We wandered around the delightful house and grounds and decided it would definitely be on the list of venues should our daughter and her boyfriend ever get around to marrying!

Setting is fantastic..The view down the valley to river from fountain to landscaped pastures was ideal. I was impressed from the long winding drive to the gravelled forecourt which set off the magnificent grade1 Kitley House. The interior was well preserved with a touch of Georgian elegance. I loved the timber floors the staircase and comfortable uncluttered .As it was an unplanned visit. We knew we were too late for lunch so settled for a cream tea. The scones were warm and how can you criticise clotted cream and strawberry jam? A proper devon cream tea.The drinks we had at the bar were very reasonably priced although there was no beer on tap left.We thought the price was a little dear .The food being served for lunch looked uni nspiring don't think we will go back for that.

Lovely garden and our daughter had a great time meeting Disney princesses and running around. The food selection was limited with long queues. It was £6 per adult to get in and I was surprised that you still had to pay for absolutely everything once inside. Other than marshalling and parking, I’m not sure what we got for the £12 Mrs H and I paid. This was an ok couple of hours, but did not feel like value for money. We’d been to the Green Man festival at Mount Edgcumbe the day before and that had free entry with a greater selection of things to do.

The banquet hall was the venue for a cream tea afternoon for my daughters 30th Birthday. It was beautifully decorated by staff who were, without exception, fantastic. From the friendly reception as we arrived, the waiting staff who couldn’t of been more helpful and smiley, to the chef, who went above and beyond, by baking more gluten free scones when a child wanted more as they were so delicious and baking more scones for my youngest daughter after we forgot to mention her strawberry allergy and fresh strawberries had been used for decoration. Last week however, was incredible. We were served by a young man named John, he delivered the most exceptional service and was so attentive. Kitley are very lucky to have this gent working for them because he was faultless. To add to this it must be said how amazing the food was. I’m not sure if they have new staff and chef but the steak was incredible, the best we have ever had! Beautiful house and a lovely ambience with the Christmas lights and jazz band. We had a friendly welcome and shown to a gorgeous table with complimentary crackers. After that we felt a little abandoned as the waitresses were very busy, and had to call one over to take our order. We visited for afternoon tea and whilst the setting was perfect, the tea didn't quite match up to the splendid surroundings. The sandwiches were satisfactory, and the scones nicely warm, but a little stodgy. The cakes were OK, but tasted mass produced. I have visited Kitley House for dinner and wasn't disappointed so it is a shame that my experience this time wasn't quite as positive. I do love Kitley House though so will return again, but not for tea.

Went here for Sunday lunch. Started badly when I watched the male bartender with the long blonde hair level the foam off a pint of beer with his bare hand and then serve it! disgusting! My guest and I opted for the roast lamb. Wrong choice! It was blubber and gristle and totally inedible. I sent it back and when the waitress returned she claimed the chef had told her it was supposed to be like that. I immediately challenged her to get the chef to come out and try to eat the lamb. Needless to say he did not do so. My guest's lamb was also inedible and got sent back. Here's a good tip Kitley, when your chef sends out substandard food don't blame the customer! They have clearly tried to refurbish the premises and on the whole it looks better (hence 2 starts and not one!) Perhaps they should have started refurbishing in the kitchen first as that lunch was third rate and you know it. It may be a while before I return again and you should think long and hard about it too

We have eaten at Kitley House on a number of occasions in the past (over 15 years ago) and were looking forward to another fine meal. But it was not to be. The house and grounds are delightful and well worth the visit, sadly the restaurant no longer is. We were amazed to see a burger on the menu (in the past, it was a very up market restaurant) which my husband tried but found sadly lacking. It was a burger with cheese, tomato and lettuce in a bun served with chips - not exactly pushing the boundaries. I had the butternut squash wellington, again very disappointing, a large quantity of pastry with a small amount of butternut squash chunks inside, served with a tasteless sauce, mushrooms a couple of token vegetables and some potatoes that looked like leftovers from the day before. Our companions had the pork belly, which was said to be good, and the bass which was small in size. The profiteroles were underwhelming and the lemon tart looked like it had been bought in. My ice cream was tasteless. The service was friendly and efficient - pity the chef just isn't up to catering for this kind of establishment.

Got coaxed down here this morning £2 pp entry, live music some play kit and a lot of tented stalls predominantly arts and crafts. We thought we’d try it out having only previously been to Yealmpton Shows and a couple of evening music outdoor concerts. Firstly at 11am the traffic was backed up through Brixton and when we got into the field inside the main lodge there were hundreds of cars. We sensibly opted for the free minibus to the yard by the house door where there were many folk about and we could hear a large part jazz style choir. Through the gate we could see the maybe forty stalls, a long queue for the only available food from a hot burger etc stall, and an even longer line for indoor toilets and the understaffed bar in the main room usually used as the restaurant. We eat here several years ago and it looked as if not much had been done much since except a poorly applied coat of grey wall paint. Kitley was looking very run down and left st most of its character and style. The stalls were earnest, well intention but almost all very uninspiring. We left in less than an hour. A lot of people had come in before we did but despite the continuing queue of cars in there was already a steady stream out. Kitley seems to be losing its appeal and any notion of style or quality. All I he house windows have badly peeling paint and the ground floor generally looks a bit knocked about.

Due to the weather we contacted the team to see if we could postpone for 24hrs to allow roads to thaw more - was advised that absolutely no problem at all. Arrived on Sunday, with my parents to surprise them with a room full of friends and relatives - nothing was too much trouble for the staff/team; attentive without being overbearing. The afternoon tea itself was to die for - the most amazing scones, served with oodles of clotted cream! along with a variety of sandwiches and cakes (lemon drizzle highly recommended). We were very kindly given boxes to take the food that we hadn't managed to eat at the time. I have had so many positive comments from attending guests; my parents were absolutely over the moon! Took my wife and my elderly mother in law for Sunday lunch to celebrate my wife's birthday I have to say the food was excellent we all had the Sunday roast two beef and one pork which were cooked to perfection. Now to the disappointment our table was of the portable kind and had not been assembled properly, at one point the top tilted dramatically and we were lucky not end up with our drinks in our laps. We pointed this out to the restaurant manager who fiddled with the fittings but it still didn't feel secure. Also the service was quite slow we reported both these problems to the manager and the receptionist nether of which seem to be overly concerned, so great food marred by attention to detail

Great to come back to this hotel again and glad they have spent what must be a small fortune resurfacing parts of the drive.Warm welcome from all the staff and had a drink in the bar. New menu just introduced which covers the bar and also dining room. Prices much more suitable for the business traveller, so opted to eat in.Had carrots and beetroot as a starter...really tasty. And then good old fish and chips. Chips could have been a little more crispy, but the fish was beautifully cooked - nice piece of fish, not too much batter. Minted peas and homemade tartre sauce finished it off. And less than £12 for this main course (£4.95 for the starter).Lovely presentation too; whilst prices have been reduced, quality and presentation have not. Quite a bargain and I have paid double elsewhere for food of a similar standard.Happy days...Keep it up guys.

What we saw of the hotel was lovely and our meal was delicious, served by patient staff who had to attend to the diners while negotiating actors and a lot of excitement. The entertainment was excellent. The only thing that was rather unfortunate was the lack of welcome and explanation on our arrival. Surprisingly there was a small party there that had come for their special cream tea.Although we were the first in the restaurant, we were not the first to be served. We ordered our drinks, and the waitress took our order from the menu. The drinks arrived then we waited 45 minutes. We had to draw attention to ourselves to get any service. Others in the restaurant were being served before us.Clearly we had been forgotten. No bread while you wait, which I understand is usual in this place. The food was nothing special. I had the honey glazed duck. The duck was OK, but the roast pumpkin was overcooked and the confit duck hash was just a weird thin gravy. All in all a disappointing meal. The most satisfied in our party was the person who had ordered fish and chips.

Well - what can I say. From start to finish I have nothing but admiration for the staff and the venue. We arrived early (before the official check in time) but our room was ready and waiting. Following the blessing in nearby Yealmpton we were greeted back at the Hotel with a selection of drinks - gin &a tonic, sparkling rose wine of fruit cocktail. After the photographs the sit down meal was just stupendous. Ham hock starter followed by beef wellington and finished with the most enormous profiteroles I've ever seen. Everything was perfection even the vegetables (which often suffer at this type of event). Considering there was about 50 of us the service was first class. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Following the meal it was drinks/coffee then disco and a buffet. Although I think most of us were still full from the lovely afternoon food the buffet didn't fail to delight. Everything was perfect including the buffet style breakfast the next morning. The drinks from the bar were reasonably priced and the room we had, room eleven, on the top floor was well appointed and had everything we needed. Well done Kitley House and the staff you made the day very special for the special couple and all their friends and family. Thank you.

From the moment we first contacted Kitley House Hotel, all the staff that we came into contact with seemed to share our enthusiasm for our special day. Nothing was too much trouble at all stages of planning the event, obviously very experienced, and they gently guided us through the planning and reminded us of the usual protocols to be observed. Our guests were very impressed with the fact the we had exclusive use of the hotel and the food was both delicious and plentiful for both the sit-down meal and the evening buffet. Bar prices are reasonable for this type of venue, we were expecting them to be a little bit dearer. Evening disco was a blast - a good mix of modern and dance floor classics but none of the 'Hey-ho, silver lining' type of music. The rooms have all the modern conveniences but manage to retain much of the character of this old building. A number of our guests travel for business and it was pleasing to hear such positive comments from them.

This was a surprise early Christmas present for me, and a birthday present for our friend, from our friend Sheila. Apart from the rocky ride down the drive, the three of us arrived to be greeted by a very nice waiter and shown to our seats in the dining hall by the window. This is a very atmospheric hotel. Nice white tablecloths with serviettes to match. Not long to wait, and nicely entertained by the squirrels running around the lawns in front of us, when our delicious cream tea arrived. A three tiered plate with warm sultana and plain scones. A big dish of cream and strawberry jam, with a fresh strawberry on each dish of cream. A pot of tea each for my two friends, and a pot of coffee for me. These scones were the nicest I have tasted, melted in your mouth. I would thoroughly recommend a treat like this at Kitley. There were 2 other couples, 1 couple having the high tea which also looked very nice. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful, and the young waitress very attentive, asking if we wanted our tea and coffee pots topped up - something quite unusual in hotels. At this time of the year, the scenery was stunning, and we were lucky to have a superb day. Thank you Kitley & thank you Sheila!

Sunday lunch set menu - good choice of meats plus vegetarian, lamb was good, pork mostly good but crackling let it down, beef only so-so. Accompaniments good (Yorkshire pudding excellent) but meal completely plated up where for this type of dining might have expected the vegetables to be served separately. Similarly, the staff offered sauces & then had to get them from the kitchen - bit of an unnecessary fuss as could easily have brought them to the table ready (bearing in mind the meats ordered).Staff OK, one waiter very efficient & polite, but Head Waiter (?) could be heard huffing under his breath whenever he approached - seemed under pressure.Lovely surroundings & not a bad price but the overall experience could have been much more.

We arrived with out a booking and we're pleased to be greeted by a very pleasant receptionist who gave us the rates and then showed us a couple of rooms. Our room was large with a lovely view over the river,it was very clean and the bed super comfortable, the shower was very hot and the large soft towels lovely.this old building has a lovely history and is impressive inside I do agree that the first impression is a little disappointing. All the staff were very friendly and professional.

I will try to be fair and honest. I arrived at hotel and was disappointed with the front entrance, it's not attractive. Once inside the lobby is pleasant. They upgraded my room and I had a beautiful view of the lake and estuary. The furniture was a real mixture and the old wardrobe was frankly horrible, it was a large and clean room. I went down for dinner and was again disappointed there was no proper seating in the bar and was left standing waiting for someone to notice me which didn't happen. After an awkward time getting my booked table laid because I was 15 minutes late which the manager made me aware of I had an enjoyable meal. In the morning there was not hot water because the boiler was on the blink, this was a major problem for any hotel and not a pleasant experience. I was offered free breakfast by way of compensation. In all not a great experience but the location is lovely and the hotel has real promise.

Went for cream tea with family, wanted to test the venue for a bigger family gathering later in the month. First visit was so good we didn't hesitate to book again, The second visit we were entertaining holidaymakers staying in the area. Cream tea was fabulous, but Vintage Afternoon Tea wasn't so good. Can highly recommend the cream tea and lovely staff, all elegantly served in beautiful surroundings.Going back there for a friends birthday lunch next week.

We have been here a number of times before and I have experienced a slow decline in the standards. Firstly the decor was drab and in need of a makeover. Next In the past there has been a full al a carte menu this time not so. The choices were limited. I feel that this particular hotel has decided to specialise in the process of functions ie weddings etc, and not consider the casual diner. Anyway the food was good the service good but please check your billing system as you very nearly overcharged me and then went on to blame the computer.

Lovely room for two. Shame there were a few things missing that you normally get in other hotels such as a bottle of water so you don't have to drink tap water from the bathroom or a packet of biscuits to go with your cuppa on arrival...but the bed was comfy and the room was clean so that's the main thing...

Went to Kitley today for lunch - our anniversary so wanted more than a pub meal - and had a wonderful meal. The food was superb - then new chef really knows his stuff (though actually we really liked the food by the lady chef who used to be there a few years ago too), the service was helpful and professional, the setting delightful with a view over the garden, and the prices very reasonable. The grounds are well worth a stroll - down to a wedding pavilion by the river Yealm estauary, complete with swans - and the new manager said he has big plans for events to bring Kitley into the public eye (it's rather in the country and down a long scenic drive). Hope it works - this place really deserves a bigger fan base.

Kitley have restored my faith in their service by providing an excellent high tea. Originally, we had a very poor experience due to an exceptionally busy mother's day, however they surpassed themselves by putting it right. Polite staff, quality scones and sandwiches, perfectly brewed tea and coffee mixed with polite, prompt and friendly attendants.

We stayed overnight with breakfast included, as we were attending a business seminar/lunch the next day.The standard rooms are all in the attic style top floor. This generally means that at some point in the room and or bathroom there will be a sloping area of ceiling.Decor was tasteful, our room recently decorated, however typical of old buildings the wooden windows/sills are in need of replacing. Unfortunately whilst we had a bath with shower over, the sloping ceiling meant that the shower curtain which was fixed at an angle, would not open more than the gathered closed position!Bed was rather firm. However the food was excellent both for the bar meal, which we ate in the restaurant and the breakfast the next morning had a fantastic selection of buffet and menu items. The service was the best we have received from a hotel for ages and the staff very friendly. In fact because our evening meal was taking a long time to prepare, we were given complimentary drinks for our party of four.We were also given a room to change in after our meeting - this was one of the larger rooms - huge - but half as much again cost wise compared with our room.

Visited April. Staff were friendly but Afternoon Tea was a big disappointment. The sandwiches were average, the scones were heavy and the cakes all contained thick buttercream - much too rich. The dining room was ok, but nothing special.Had Afternoon Tea at The Cornwall Hotel near St Austell today which was far superior and worth the journey.Shame, as Kitley is on our doorstep.

Stayed here in June, fourth time this year so far and once again thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Stunning peaceful location and great staff. The management always attempt to upgrade my room if possible and the state rooms are really comfortable.I have eaten in the restaurant on all my recent visits and can confirm the dinner menu is reasonably priced and very well presented. Never had cause to complain. Front of house staff are all local which seems remarkable these days based on my experience with hotels throughout the uk. Obviously no language issues and they all seem very pleasant and helpful.Definitely a place I would like to visit socially at the weekend with my family but unfortunately availability in state rooms would be limited due to weddings.Definitely worth a stay during the week though. 9/10.

An interesting old Manor House at the end of a very bumpy ,pot-hole drive. We had booked an afternoon tea for two mid afternoon as a anniversary treat. The receptionist was very pleasant and led us to an adjacent room ,I was rather disappointed that we were sharing it with several other groups of people all having the set tea.It seems that there was a corporate meeting else where in the hotel and this was the only place to sit. After about a ten minute wait, the waiter asked us if we wanted tea or coffee and did we want sugar. This I found unusual as there should be a sugar bowl on the table .The average afternoon tea arrived after another ten minute wait,by this time our drinks had become cool .Found the scones to be heavy in texture and too much icing on the cakes. The finger sandwiches were good. All in all I feel more could have been done by the waiter,he didn't enquire if we wanted anything or was everything was to our liking.Felt rather let down by the whole experience.

A group of us booked to attend a 'Murder Mystery' evening that Kitley hosts every so often. The actual event was quite good & the dinner served was very tasty - though the choices for each course did make the total menu rather eclectic. We opted to stay over & booked for Bed&Breakfast as well. Herein lie the issues. Whilst I was actually quite comfortable my companions were all too hot & did not sleep well as a result. All of the windows in the room were open but this did nothing to cool the place down. The next problem came with Breakfast the following morning. We were a group of 8 in total & had agreed that we would all eat at the same time.We all ordered a cooked breakfast which took an age to arrive & when it did was well below the standard expected! Think crispy fried eggs, half the items on the plate cold; the other half lukewarm - very disappointing in comparison to the previous evenings meal. To add insult to injury the staff serving that morning commented on how much toast we were consuming - you would too if you had to wait 50minutes for breakfast!!!Not one member of staff acknowledged or apologised for the lengthy wait either. All in all very poor. Given that this event had been booked about 3 months in advance I expected a much better organised affair. To be fair to Kitley when we complained about the service we were given a refund. As to whether or not I'd go back I'm not sure. I did think I might give the place another go but on reading some of the other reviews posted I'm leaning more towards not returning.

Our lunch was booked in for 12.30 and at the request of Kitley we had selected all of our meals before arrival, starters, main, sweet plus coffee or tea was included if we had three courses which majority of us had. We sat down at 12.30, the waitress asked if we were ready to order , we explained that we had already pre selected. After about 3/4 hour nothing had happened, we made a complaint. The waitress apologised and went away. 25 minutes later the stsrters arrived worst from 2- they arrived 10 minutes after. Thus set the tone for the rest of the meal and we never had time for our tea or coffee, and to rub salt into the wound a debate then started on what if anything they were prepared to do about it. The time now was 4 o'clock. The table next to ours had just left , not even having their sweets. After about 1/2 hour of rangling we couldn't face any more and paid what they suggested... Never again, Mother's Day ruined, 60th birthday ruined!! The only compliment was to the pianist!!

Treated the Good Lady to dinner, bed & breakfast at Kitley to mark the First Anniversary. It was a quiet Saturday in February, the day before the Kitley Wedding Fayre, so we anticipated a few minor changes to the usual efficiently relaxed atmosphere. We shared the hotel with four other guests we were aware of and due to the Wedding Fayre, were seated in the small dining room for evening & breakfast. An understandably short menu was offered and food didn't disappoint, even though the chef had only taken over a week earlier. Clearly, the staff were if full Fayre Preparation mode but that didn't stop them having time for the guests (even if the Good Lady has a tendency to keep talking when the other person really needs to get on with the job in hand!).There were a few unexpected touches laid on for us, so thank you for these as its always the little things that make a big difference. We didn't wander the grounds this time due to the weather but recommend you do in summer when its a touch warmer & dryer. If you are going to stay here, I highly recommend spending the extra few pounds for a State Room. There's fewer stairs to climb and significantly more character in the room.

Stayed here with my husband on 1-2-16 The entrance to the hotel is very impressive particularly illuminated at night. Reception has a huge welcoming fire as well as other period features. Staff couldn't be more accommodating. Monday was clearly a quiet night enabling us to have the pick of the tables in the restaurant. Starters of smoked duck salad and prawn cocktail were great (particularly the purée with the duck). Mains of Salmon with fondant potato and Chicken with Parma ham and saffron potato were perfectly cooked and accompanied by veg . In 30+ years of eating out, I've never had ratatouille even nearly as good. I have the good fortune to eat at nice places so well executed staples really stand out.Our room was very clean and well presented and represented great value. The staff are friendly and accommodating without being intrusive. Some communal areas could perhaps do with a sprucing up but that's being picky.Great gardens and surroundings. Take your binoculars if you're a twitcher!

We booked Christmas lunch at Kitley House with grandparents and children. The setting, in a stately home, was very grand and felt like a scene from Downtown. Santa greeted us at the front door and made an appearance later to give the children small gifts. Champagne and canapés were served on arrival and this provided an opportunity to wander around the lovely rooms and soak up the atmosphere and see the decorations. Lunch was traditional with seafood starter and full turkey roast with all the trimmings followed by Xmas pudding. Whilst lunch was quite expensive it represented good value due to the location and quality experience. Best of all, no washing up!

Stayed here on business for two nights. When you drive up the long driveway to this small stately home it looks very impressive but once inside it just lacks soul. I stayed in the Rodney Suite which had a beautiful view and was a lovely large room but it was filthy. There was a cooked sausage under my four poster bed that was coated in dust, so it had obviously been there a while - and it was still there when I left !! The rooms have hairdryer, tea, coffee, water and basic toiletries, but there is no safe. There is free wifi throughout but it was very poor signal and kept dropping out, but to be fair this is probably the location. Breakfast was dreadful, such a poor variety of food available and when my porridge arrived you could stand the spoon up in it it was so hard. Staff ok but not particularly welcoming. I am guessing they make their money with weddings, corporate events, afternoon tea and lunches. I wouldn't recommend a stay here as I feel it just lacks a welcoming atmosphere. It could be so beautiful which is a real shame

We went here last night for our staff Christmas meal and have to say how very unimpressed and deeply disappointed we all were. Our staff had been here quite a few years ago and it was lovely then however the standards have severely dropped. I can confidently say that Kitley house is appalling for vegans especially but everyone else said their food was bad too; one of our team said his meal was the worst he had ever eaten, but mine was particularly bad :( had a tiny cold stack of veg for starters then 2 portobello mushrooms covered in limp spinach with a couple of slices of roasted but greasy onions, half a parsnip and 3 tiny roast potatoes, then a uninspired plate of fruit for dessert, all for £45 not impressed at all pics look better than it actually was :( baring in mind as well that this had been booked since September so they had plenty of time to research something a bit better to make me. Overall a very disappointing experience and I shall not return there,

Great late lunch with family, biggest haddock I have ever seen. Had that locally caught ling, calamri and my wife just cheesy chips. All with crispy fresh batter, chips golden but soft inside. Even cheesy chips were top, 1/2 chips, then cheese, more chips and topping of more cheese. All top quality, even the ice cream and with nice pints of Otter, bitter & ale on tap. Great way to end off long walk on the beach. You won’t be disappointed..

The restaurant was quite Busy, we were served the staff are lovely, table was clean food is good. This review has nothing to do with that. Getting to the Toilets as a disabled person in a wheelchair is an nightmare, the path is very steep going down then you have to try and open the door or wait for someone to help. Then it's getting in through the door while trying to keep it open if you don't have anyone around to help you . Then you come to the disabled toilet and you have the same problem getting in and out is hard. I have spoken to the manager on duty today and he said he will bring it up at the next meeting with his manager all I can say is I hope so, it's a lovely garden centre but if you are disabled I wouldn't recommend coming to this garden centre unless you can hold your Toiletting needs for the Duration of your visit. The manager has said he's had people complain about the path a lot, but not getting into and out of the toilets, I myself am guiltily of not saying anything before because I'm embarrassed, but today I decided to say something and I'm glad I did. The staff are all lovely nothing is to much trouble, if you are able body it's a fantastic place to visit, and I will miss going. But going down that path today was quite frightening and before anyone Says anything my chair was on the Slowest speed any slower. And I wouldn't have been able to move but I was frightened and thinking. And I was gonna hit the back wall. I really hope this review helps people and the managers Does something .

I loved this pub. We walked from Salcombe and it was well worth it (don't worry, you can drive there too). It had the feel of a genuine pub with some good beers that happened to do great food also. I had possibly the best burger I have had in a long time and my wife had a fantastic steak sandwich. Both were freshly prepared scratch. They have vegan options too. I notice some negative reviews, mostly due to poor service. We arrived at 12 noon on a weekday in October. Even so, the place was full by the time we left, so it is clearly a popular place. The service we experienced was without fault. I hope our experience is the norm.
