We came here for dinner and drinks. The service was good however we found the food to be average / especially considering the price. My fish pie was £27 and our total bill was £175 for 2 people including wine!

We were a group of 7, had main courses and desserts. The BBQ ribs were amazing, loads of meat and nice sticky sauce, served with chips and red slaw. Others had the steak & ale pie, which they would wholeheartedly recommend. The fish pie was very tasty but not a big portion. Service was ok, think they were short staffed.

Ridiculous service. Out for a birthday dinner, so many tables unused yet refused to serve us food. There were people ordering as we were trying to. Avoid at all costs. Go across the road to the Kings Arms, much more welcoming. Until the management changes, I will never recommend the Victorian Inn again.

Front of house accommodated late change to table which was appreciated , apart from this service was non existent after ordering . We ordered drinks that we never received the waitress asked after we had finished our meals if we still wanted our drinks ! No thank you . We then paid our bill soon which the waitress took our money and walked off talking to another member of staff didn’t inform us what she was doing or if she was getting our change . We had to chase after her down stairs and ask a manager what was going on . Don’t think we will return .

A warm welcome was definitely missing as we were left for some time at the door to book in. Menu was rather uninspiring. The only starter that appealed was scallops, only to be told that they were no longer available. To our surprise, the large party who arrived after us were able to order scallops! Not sure how that works! Main course of fish and chips plus salmon linguine were tasty. Service was, on the whole, good.

A busy pub/restaurant on the main street which is clearly popular with the tourists and locals alike. Good quality food reasonably priced food cooked very well rather than trying to be too fancy with ideal portion sizes so you will have room for starters and desert. I tried a lot of pubs (because there isn't much else food wise) whilst staying in Salcombe. I'd have to say the Victoria had the best food. Good ales. The manager and assistant manager were very professional. It's not cheap for portion size, so order starter etc too. But quality is very good. Upon second visit had the rabbit stew special. Was perfect. In all honestly the first time I went the food wasn't as good as the second. Second time was perfect. Deffo worth a visit.

We booked a Sunday roast for 14 family members and all I can say was well done to the amazing server who took our orders and attended to our requests. He was a very helpful young man. We all got our food in a very timely manner and the food was fabulous too. To get 14 meals out at once is no mean feat! Nothing was too much trouble and they accepted with a smile our young grandchildren being a little "excited" at times. So refreshing to go somewhere nice with the children that didn't make us feel like we had to eat and leave as quickly as possible. All the mums got a small bottle of Gin and a Tonic for a mothers day treat. How lovely was that? Fabulous 👌

It was a Saturday but it did not look that busy due to the reservations being for two hour slots. However we waited 20 mins or more for our drinks to be brought to the table having had to ask. Then we asked for our order to be taken having sat for 45 mins since arrival. When you are charging £30 for a steak and £20 for fish and chips the service should be top notch. However, the food, when it came was delicious. Salmon and tomatoe linguine was lovely as was my husband fish and chips. The staff did apologies for the delays that occurred and we did enjoy our meals.

Wine not opened at the table, which is bad practice. It's not exactly expensive wine but it was still best part of £50. Mussels were poor, small and dried up and not good value, and I had to ask for bread. The pasta was meant to have voloutee but was dry. It was relatively nice but as said dry. I thought it was all a bit average. Wife banana blossom fish was good.

Nice atmosphere, but the food was fairly mixed. The starters took a very long time to come. The hummus was nice but the moules starter portion was so tiny it worked out at £1 a mussel. They were very small mussels and exceptionally gritty. The vegan fish and chips was nice, the veloute tagliatelle was ok but weirdly seemed to lack a veloute. We bought a £45 bottle and it was brought to the table already open, which isn't great practice. Nothing mega wrong, but just a bit under par considering the price.

We recently visited the Victoria for Sunday lunch. We have been regular visitors to Salcombe since the 1990s and have seen the pub go through many changes over the years, but always maintaining a great atmosphere and excellent food. On arrival (in teeming rain!!) we were welcomed and offered a place at the bar, as we were early and our table was not quite ready. Staff were friendly and polite, and the fire was giving off some welcome heat to dry our coats. Imagine our disappointment then, when our Sunday lunch was delivered - my wife's meal had only one small slice of beef and my chicken was not delivered as described on the menu - only one small chicken breast as opposed to a mix of dark and light meat. Admittedly very tasty, but a significantly smaller portion than on previous visits and a price which did not reflect what was brought out from the kitchen. I raised this with the server, to be told that the chicken was mis-described on the menu, but that nothing could be done. We then ordered the crumble for dessert, which was advertised with Creme Anglaise and ice cream. The dessert arrived without the ice cream and only a small helping of the CA, which left it very dry - I again raised this with the server and was told that the kitchen was working with "the wrong data sheet" for the meal and some ice cream was provided. In fairness, our bill was discounted by the value of the desserts, we would have much preferred to have what we had ordered delivered correctly in the first place. It is such a shame that this pub has fallen into the trap of being a "brewery pub" with menus set and managed by Head Office rather than being run as it was in previous years. Given the choice of several other, much better pubs in the village, sadly we are very unlikely to visit again. Sorry Victoria Arms - you emailed me to ask me to complete a survey, so I have provided what I feel to be a fair reflection on our visit.

What a shame I’m having to write this review, this place once upon a time was lovely. We stopped for a quick drink with our granddaughter so she could play in the beer garden. It was absolutely disgusting, bottles strewn over the floor broken benches and the high chairs were minging, the grass was overgrown and whole place looking tired. The car park is full of old battered work vans which is clearly being used as some sort of 2nd hand sales. To top it off the guy serving behind the bar (uses crutches) was just damn right rude. This place has so much potential but is clearly in the wrong hands

Bayards offer great value light lunches, lovely salads, kofta, quiche or dalls. Always friendly and attentive.
