Relaxed Atmosphere: The pub is known for its relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, with real log fires and cozy nooks. Scenic Location: Located on Fore Street, it's just a few minutes from the banks of the Salcombe Estuary, offering beautiful views. Dog-Friendly: Dogs are very welcome, and there's an extensive garden with a children's play area. Great Food: The restaurant serves British cuisine with vegetarian, dairy-free, and vegan options available. Dishes like the crab linguine and fish of the day have received praise. High Ratings: The Victoria Inn has a high rating on platforms like TripAdvisor, with many visitors appreciating the overall experience

Stepped out of the rain for a late lunch and we were seated immediately at a large table in a quiet area. There was plenty of choice for children and the portions were a good size for our 5, 8 and 10 year old with the dessert. I ate from the set menu and was very impressed with the quality and value, and the options. The wine was nice and the service was excellent, its also dog friendly. Would definitely revisit, best meal I've had in a pub in Salcombe and we have visited a few.

We had Sunday lunch here, 5 adults, 2 kids and a dog. One of my daughters has autism and is quite a fussy eater but they accommodated her request really well (it was an off-menu request). Food was delicious, atmosphere was great and nobody minded when our labrador made a fuss because she got nervous.

Wine not opened at the table, which is bad practice. It's not exactly expensive wine but it was still best part of £50. Mussels were poor, small and dried up and not good value, and I had to ask for bread. The pasta was meant to have voloutee but was dry. It was relatively nice but as said dry. I thought it was all a bit average. Wife banana blossom fish was good.

Nice atmosphere, but the food was fairly mixed. The starters took a very long time to come. The hummus was nice but the moules starter portion was so tiny it worked out at £1 a mussel. They were very small mussels and exceptionally gritty. The vegan fish and chips was nice, the veloute tagliatelle was ok but weirdly seemed to lack a veloute. We bought a £45 bottle and it was brought to the table already open, which isn't great practice. Nothing mega wrong, but just a bit under par considering the price.

We recently visited the Victoria for Sunday lunch. We have been regular visitors to Salcombe since the 1990s and have seen the pub go through many changes over the years, but always maintaining a great atmosphere and excellent food. On arrival (in teeming rain!!) we were welcomed and offered a place at the bar, as we were early and our table was not quite ready. Staff were friendly and polite, and the fire was giving off some welcome heat to dry our coats. Imagine our disappointment then, when our Sunday lunch was delivered - my wife's meal had only one small slice of beef and my chicken was not delivered as described on the menu - only one small chicken breast as opposed to a mix of dark and light meat. Admittedly very tasty, but a significantly smaller portion than on previous visits and a price which did not reflect what was brought out from the kitchen. I raised this with the server, to be told that the chicken was mis-described on the menu, but that nothing could be done. We then ordered the crumble for dessert, which was advertised with Creme Anglaise and ice cream. The dessert arrived without the ice cream and only a small helping of the CA, which left it very dry - I again raised this with the server and was told that the kitchen was working with "the wrong data sheet" for the meal and some ice cream was provided. In fairness, our bill was discounted by the value of the desserts, we would have much preferred to have what we had ordered delivered correctly in the first place. It is such a shame that this pub has fallen into the trap of being a "brewery pub" with menus set and managed by Head Office rather than being run as it was in previous years. Given the choice of several other, much better pubs in the village, sadly we are very unlikely to visit again. Sorry Victoria Arms - you emailed me to ask me to complete a survey, so I have provided what I feel to be a fair reflection on our visit.

Seated and served by Katie who was just great, never too busy to ask how everything was. I had catch of the day which was a plaice - it is a long time since I had such a fresh and beautifully cooked fish. Merlot and alcohol free G+T both lovely too. Finished with a nice dessert. Unfortunately not the best experience. we were told we would have to wait for our food after we had ordered as they only had 2 chefs. I would argue that I doubt there was 2. Humus was ok. Crab croquettes were ok. Prawns were not great and the volume for the cost was ridiculous. The bruschetta was on bread which couldn’t be cut or chewed and was probably ok a few days ago. My rack of ribs were average at best and the packet French fries were tepid. My wife’s aubergine was undercooked to the point of being inedible and there was no miso at all on any of them. The dressed crab, again dissappointing and ginsters type pies were just about passable. The only good bit was the sticky toffee pudding. A shame as we were looking forward to our meal.

Very disappointing! Went out for a meal with the family and all five of us left really underwhelmed. Ordered the one plant based option that was available that night, many of the chips were undercooked and hard and the fish alternative was mostly just batter! Was like eating mouthfuls of crispy grease. For around £25 pounds a head felt like a waste of money. Did complain but was still charged full price for a sub standard meal not one of us enjoyed. The only positive was the waitress, Maddy (young, blue hair). Who was lovely and an exceptionally good server. Overall extremely disappointing experience. Awful value for money, will not be returning.

So I recently moved to Salcombe going on 42 years ago today, and obviously being new to the place I wanted to try some of the local food. I tried to order some food but a girl snatched the menu out of my hand and sort of tore it up with her bare teeth? When I asked her why she did that, she gestured for me to be quiet, waving her hands in my face and said, “I am my mother’s child, I’ll love you till my breathing stops”. So not sure what that was all about… When I was waiting on my food, I looked around to take in some of the local beauties, and out of the corner of my eye I saw the chef shuffling some coal from the fireplace onto a plate. Next thing I knew he served me this plate claiming it was merely charred. Not happy! Just when I thought this nightmare was over, a rugged looking man started beating me with a broom yelling for me to go back to Plymouth! He even called me a janner (slur for people from Plymouth). Who knew the people of Salcombe could be so territorial… I give this place a 3/10 because the coal tasted alright tbf. I’m Victoria Out!

We ate a portion of pasta for a juicy 23 pounds and a burger for 19 pounds...what can I say...it was tasty, but the portions were so small that we then went to the very friendly "Frenchman" We went around the corner and got some crepes. My tip if you're looking for great food in a restaurant with a top location, appropriate portions that fill you up and very friendly staff...go to the "Crabshell" in Kingsbridge.

Visited twice whilst staying in beautiful Salcombe as we loved the fantastic garden (in fact it is one of the best pub gardens we have been too). We had drinks on our first visit and food on our second visit. The quality of drinks were good, however, the food was very basic, overpriced and bland. Waitress asked if we enjoyed out food and despite saying no she just walked away. If this pub could offer food as nice as the interior and garden this could be the best in salcombe but at the moment it’s sadly got a long way to go!

I really want to like this pub. I really do. It’s got an excellent location and internally (and more importantly) externally, are really lovely areas to sit in. The patio area out back is quirky and fun and comfortable. It’s great. However, that’s where the praise ends for me. I’ve visited 4 times in the last 1-2 years and each time have struggled to enjoy it. Most recently my visit this weekend. No please/thank you from staff, no eye contact. Rude and abrupt service. They were busy, but there was no buzz, it just felt flat and I felt in the way. One young lady collecting glasses was very friendly, but that was it. I paid for 2 Malbecs, which were almost too awful to drink. I ordered a couple of small plates and found them overpriced for what we had (for example the bruschettta - one small piece of bread with some tomatoes and balsamic glaze was £8.50)… It was fine, but for the money I wasn’t blown away. My previous visits were no better, unfortunately, with the main issue being customer service. A shame as it could be the perfect spot!

First floor is even nicer than before and service was perfect. Sadly the food was not so great, squid cooked dry and one portion of scallops were good (but flavour did not go with the risotto) and the second portion of scallops were off and the ammonia taste was hard to get rid of. The mussels (normally a favourite) were ok but not great. Still, we will give it another go, before making any decision. Anywhere can have an off day I guess, especially in the low season.

Well where to begin....we decided to book the Victoria for my mom's 60th birthday celebration with 8 of us dining. Firstly the restaurant were made aware of the celebration and there was no mention of it whatsoever. Then it came to ordering. Unfortunately earlier in the week we had visited the Crab Shell in Kingsbridge which is owned by the same brewery. The menu at the crab shell was far superior....as was the food quality. One member of our parry ordered the crabby fries, having had them in Kingsbridge and thoroughly enjoying them. When they arrived at the Victoria, many of the ingredients were missing which was a huge disappointment and the quality was just below average. Additionally, the squid was rubbery and had a funny taste. Two members of the group ordered the hake, which was served cold....I guess waiting around for the other food. And once again had a funny taste! I'm surprised none of us ended up with good poisoning!! All in all, very disappointing, very expensive for what it was. Definitely avoid and take your custom to the Crab Shell (Kingsbridge) for a much better meal.

Great late lunch with family, biggest haddock I have ever seen. Had that locally caught ling, calamri and my wife just cheesy chips. All with crispy fresh batter, chips golden but soft inside. Even cheesy chips were top, 1/2 chips, then cheese, more chips and topping of more cheese. All top quality, even the ice cream and with nice pints of Otter, bitter & ale on tap. Great way to end off long walk on the beach. You won’t be disappointed..

I loved this pub. We walked from Salcombe and it was well worth it (don't worry, you can drive there too). It had the feel of a genuine pub with some good beers that happened to do great food also. I had possibly the best burger I have had in a long time and my wife had a fantastic steak sandwich. Both were freshly prepared scratch. They have vegan options too. I notice some negative reviews, mostly due to poor service. We arrived at 12 noon on a weekday in October. Even so, the place was full by the time we left, so it is clearly a popular place. The service we experienced was without fault. I hope our experience is the norm.

We stayed 3 nights, Fri Sat & Sun, very comfortable well furnished room, ensuite, with breakfast (diy) available in little kitchen down the hall. Wonderful old world inn, great bar, and bar food til 8.30 (lunchtime til 5 on Sunday, no evening meal). Very friendly and helpful staff, and wonderful location in the wilds of Dartmoor.
