This is an old style country pub right on the A38 duel carriage way as you approach Ivybridge. Don't blink, or you will miss the turn-off. Cheeseburger chips and peas ? Not good, basic cheep pre frozen white floured bap with a tasteless beefburger relish, grated cheddar which I hate and the rest. The chips were chunky and looked nice enough until I ate one. Yuck, they left me with the taste of stale oil in my mouth for days after. I can only assume they don't change it very often. I also ended up with a very upset stomach. 3 other meals were ordered by ourselves for my wife and two friends, and they all agreed the chips looked good but tasted awful and left them with a funny dryness in the mouth and they couldn't taste things properly for a few days after. We were quite surprised by this because we had food there a couple of months earlier, and all was fine. Unfortunately, we won't be going back because this has made me quite poorly.

Called in on the way back from Cornwall, at lunch time, totally empty, but a great greeting and wow the food was amazing, hot and tasty. The price was very good my wife had fish and chips, for under £10 ,a large piece of crispy fish and super chunky chips, my pulled spicy chicken on nachos with cheese and 3 dips was so nice. 4 people with drinks just over £60 a bargain. Situated just of the main road.

Very disappointed to be honest we had driven past here several times saying we'd have to try there and now wished we hadn't. We arrived ordered a pint and a half of rattler fruit cider which when smelt you can tell the lines are dirty. My partner ordered a 8oz rump steak medium rare I ordered a mixed grill Her steak came out well done both our chips came out clearly just reheated a soggy drenched in fat mess inedible. The gammon was more like a piece of bacon than a steak. All in all shocking ! Won't be risking a return trip here The chef needs cooking lessons ! Very disappointed

Very poor food, cold, tasteless, no atmosphere, our table was reserved on a scrap of paper. The table numbers were on a scruffy piece of laminated paper then stuck onto the table with BLUETAC I used to go here when I was 18 with my work place….. It was nicer food. I’m now 60. Friendly welcome by the lady behind the bar. Food was good value for money. Apart from the side of mushrooms, which we thought the price was a little steep as was a very small portion. Main meals were a good portion size. Good selection of drinks behind the bar and condiments when ordering food. Ordered ham, double egg and chips and all was cooked to perfection. Generous amount of ham.

The positive. The carvery was lovely. Plenty of meat and veg. Our seating area was appalling. We were crammed into a small area part of the restaurant. I asked if any other seating was available but in the dinning area it was tables for4, we were 6. The area looked in real need of decorating and most certainly need to upgrade the seating. I will not return as I am aware of other carveries just as good, but far far superior eating areas.

Our plympton stroke group held our Christmas meal here on 11th December. There 19 of us and our food came out promptly and the proportion size was more than adequate with excess vegetables left and some of our smaller eaters unable to eat all the potatoes, meat and added bits. At £16.95 for a two course lunch with all the crackers and other party bits is a great deal. I'm hoping to get some close friends together so I can return. Staff were excellent.

Driven past this pub sooo many times travelling to and from Plymouth but a family occasion caused us to make a visit, and it was well worth the stop! Sunday is carvery day and at £15 per head (adult) and £7.50 (kids) I think it’s excellent value for money, with a choice of two meats and about a thousand vegetables - ok I’m exaggerating slightly. Large car park with easy access off the eastbound carriageway of the A38. I would recommend booking as there were a lot of “reserved” notices on the tables as we were leaving! You could relax by one of the log fires 🔥 with my book “Professor Harry Parker and the Tunnels of Argonaut Bay” available on Amazon kindle! If enough people buy it J.K. Rowling might have to pursue me through the courts! 🤣

Fairly big pub in an out of the way place ( although just off the busy A38 . The staff were very friendly but the owner was a bit of a grump . Some elderly diners in for Sunday lunch were not sure how the ticket for the carvery worked and I found him a bit short with them . Food was nice but the meat was a bit tasteless ( beeef ) . There are cobwebs on the entrance door near the path and I saw some mosquitoes flying up as I opened it . Pub is a bit tatty . Worn greasy looking edges on some bar stools . And the main seating area for food looks like a small church ( pews )

A group of us went for a carvery and were all very disappointed. It really was not worth the trip in my opinion. The meat was tough, some of the veg just sat in hot water which I get to keep the food warm but its just lazy again in my opinion, it took an age to drain and you still end up with a watery plate. Staff were very nice but I wouldn't recommend and we won't be back.

The cavery was the worst we’ve ever had. Over priced at £15 for cold mushy food that literally tasted of nothing. Mushy roast potatoes, dry meat and veg that tasted like water. Even the gravy was cold and tasteless. We only ate half and then left. We were surprised how busy it was for the food on offer. The staff were all lovely - can’t fault the service. We always drive past the hunting lodge on the A38 but thought we’d meet up with some family and see what it was like. Upon entering the over powering smell of the disgusting toilets put me off straight away, we were greeted by a lovely gentlemen at the bar and quickly shown to our table, decor was really outdated and had a very damp and musty smell about the place, after about 20 mins, we had to go to the bar to ask for some menus, told to look on the board for specials, when we had decided, again had to go up and order from the bar. When the food did arrive, it was amazing, portions sizes were really big and arrived quite quickly, after finishing our meal, no one came to collect our plates and we had to go and ask for this to be done, to which 4 members of staff started arguing about who had collected our plates, they quickly came and took them away, when we asked for dessert menu, they said you have to look at the board, on the other side of the pub!! When desserts came out only 1 arrived after seeing other plates come out for other customers we went to the bar and asked where our other desserts were, we only ordered 3, the staff member replied that they were just doing it, and then when they brought it over said they had run out of ice cream! While we were eating our desserts, the strongest smell of poo was coming from the toilets, it was so off putting! We didn’t tip and unfortunately because of the poor service and the foul smell, we won’t ever be returning!

What a shame I’m having to write this review, this place once upon a time was lovely. We stopped for a quick drink with our granddaughter so she could play in the beer garden. It was absolutely disgusting, bottles strewn over the floor broken benches and the high chairs were minging, the grass was overgrown and whole place looking tired. The car park is full of old battered work vans which is clearly being used as some sort of 2nd hand sales. To top it off the guy serving behind the bar (uses crutches) was just damn right rude. This place has so much potential but is clearly in the wrong hands
