Have not been here for years but was recommended by a friend. Had the steak and ale pie and it was delicious and my friends steak was great

OK, local carvery pub selling home cooked pub grub. Bit dated and run down. Atmosphere dull. Food OK and good value.

Just had the best lasagne for a very long time. Friendly bar staff will definitely be back. Thanks guys

Yes we had a great lunch at the Hunting lodge at Ivybridge . I had the Viking gammon , my wife had the Ham ,egg and chips , and our friend had Vegetable pasta. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was great , service was brilliant and the Hunting lodge was beautiful. Very nice pub and restaurant, will certainly come here again. Many thanks Rob

We went for farthers day last sunday as a big family. We requested a table together this didn't happen so we moved around furniture Unfortunately the roast dinner was not up to scratch . The turkey was mushey the potatoes were hard and peas were in wafer Veg undercooked too Unfortunately. Lovely service and friendly staff but meal was a let down.

Normally really nice carvery but went there today for Father’s Day, and it wasn’t nice at all the turkey was like mush potatoes was hard in the middle definitely won’t be returning

Very good pub food, at reasonable prices. The liver tasted good, and the chicken with cheese gratin was also excellent. Friendly staff and nice restaurant.

It’s ok food but nothing special. They could do to have a makeover as it’s probably a bit grotty but seems like an honest pub and the bar maid was lovely and friendly. The service was quick but I wouldn’t make a special trip to go there.

Given voucher for Christmas, havn't been here for years. Had a lovely meal, mixed grill and veg spring rolls with rice. It was very hot, which was a good start. Chips looked and tasted great, big and chunky. Grill was very good. Three large spring rolls, brought two home so no waste. Will definitely be going back soon. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

For a recent journey to Brittany Ferries, Plymouth, I pre booked a lunch table here. On arrival, it was seen that a carvery was in place. What a more than pleasant surprise. It was superb. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

A group of us went for a carvery and were all very disappointed. It really was not worth the trip in my opinion. The meat was tough, some of the veg just sat in hot water which I get to keep the food warm but its just lazy again in my opinion, it took an age to drain and you still end up with a watery plate. Staff were very nice but I wouldn't recommend and we won't be back.

Asked for rump steak well done but not burnt it came very burnt & tough

My local do a reasonable steak or fish and chips for a fare price. Nice bar pleasent staff. Worth a visit.

We eat here a lot. It's good, freshly cooked food and good value. It maybe looks a little tired in appearance but we actually think it adds to its appeal, rather than being just another chain eatery.

The cavery was the worst we’ve ever had. Over priced at £15 for cold mushy food that literally tasted of nothing. Mushy roast potatoes, dry meat and veg that tasted like water. Even the gravy was cold and tasteless. We only ate half and then left. We were surprised how busy it was for the food on offer. The staff were all lovely - can’t fault the service. Place is very dated too. Very sad as I’ve driven past and wanted to visit for a while but we will not return.

Went for lunch last thursday, after not visiting for decades! Received a very warm welcome There is 5* service, lots of delicious food choice and the landlord was so friendly, as were his female team. It was a great experience and we will definately be back 🤩

Arrived at 6.50pm. Ordered drinks and carvery. Barmaid went to check something. Informed carvery no longer available. Looked over as they turned all the lights off at the servery. Lots of food still left in the carvery. Have been coming here for 15 years when the times have come down from 9.00pm to 8.00pm closing for food. 7.00pm on mothers day. Never going back again.

Today at the hunting lodge was brilliant, we decided to go there for mother's day and I'm glad we did . Great food good prices and all round a lovely day out. Thank you to all the staff for making this happen

My family and I had a carvery today and it was one to remember. Beautifully cooked succulent meat. So many delicious dishes of veg. Highly generous portions, great drink, very friendly staff. All this with very reasonable prices. Can’t wait to return.

Always fab never disappoints. Mixed grill is a hubby favourite. I try rest of menu. Staff lovely. Great for lunch too. Specials great value for money.

Went there this evening for dinner with my sister, the lady behind the bar was lovely and funny but then we looked at the menu (I’m pescatarian and there wasn’t much option) so I picked the salmon with jacket potatoes and salad (it was all microwaved minus the salad) and my sister had liver and bacon with mash and hers was microwaved too, they claimed that the liver wasn’t microwaved but everything else was and didn’t apologise or offer a refund and my sister she been on the toilet since she’s had it so not the best meal we had.

The steak I ordered came out to look a bit grey, and the amount of water that came out from it was unreal, tasted bland and tried covering the mess with onion. Awful

Steak poured with water, very undercooked and tasteless. However a lovely little pub good prices if the meal was actually cooked.

What a lovely find .. looking for somewhere to eat on NYE .. and this pub popped up on Google... we had the most delicious cavery.. at a very reasonable rate.. we didnt have to book a table and the staff were very welcoming...would certainly go the again ..highly recommended

What a terrible place dirty ,food on the floor and the tables after dinners had left ,and left like that for 20mins plus .A utter disgrace.

We always drive past the hunting lodge on the A38 but thought we’d meet up with some family and see what it was like. Upon entering the over powering smell of the disgusting toilets put me off straight away, we were greeted by a lovely gentlemen at the bar and quickly shown to our table, decor was really outdated and had a very damp and musty smell about the place, after about 20 mins, we had to go to the bar to ask for some menus, told to look on the board for specials, when we had decided, again had to go up and order from the bar. When the food did arrive, it was amazing, portions sizes were really big and arrived quite quickly, after finishing our meal, no one came to collect our plates and we had to go and ask for this to be done, to which 4 members of staff started arguing about who had collected our plates, they quickly came and took them away, when we asked for dessert menu, they said you have to look at the board, on the other side of the pub!! When desserts came out only 1 arrived after seeing other plates come out for other customers we went to the bar and asked where our other desserts were, we only ordered 3, the staff member replied that they were just doing it, and then when they brought it over said they had run out of ice cream! While we were eating our desserts, the strongest smell of poo was coming from the toilets, it was so off putting! We didn’t tip and unfortunately because of the poor service and the foul smell, we won’t ever be returning!

We just turned up, hoping for a table, we were lucky they had 1 table, lucky table number 9 ha ha. Carvery Sunday, absolutely delicious, fast and friendly service, worth every penny, thankyou.

Lovely setting, if you don’t miss the turning. 8 males for a pleasant lunch break. Beautiful log fire, no annoying background musak and lovely customer service. Jordan was an excellent hostess.

A very nice, and generous Sunday carvery although the pub itself is a bit tired and scruffy to be honest. Staff always helpful and friendly, large car park too. Sunday seems to attract a lot of old age pensioners it would seem also. I would go there again for a roast. Nearest alternative is the lyneham inn

This was always my favourite place for a carvery but very sad to say we were very disappointed yesterday the beef was sooo tough we couldn't cut it we did complain but nothing was said, also watched a older gentleman trying to get into his apple crumble with a spoon and fork with no luck .🥲🥲🥲

Good food,fast service and friendly staff. We also liked the set up of tables having bench seating with high backs giving extra privacy. One major criticism was the smell of loos as you entered the building,as they were immediately inside and it sadly wasn’t appreciated as a welcome to a lovely pub.

Ordered a medium well steak, came over cooked and pressed full of grissel. Sent it back again mw no blood it came back rare. No apology nothing the chef should be ashamed of himself. I am also a chef and clearly know how to cook steaks. To add salt to the wounds I heard the waitresses slagging me off in the kitchen, saying she ordered a med rare. As if I don't know what I like to eat. Totally annoyed

Quite possibly the worst food I have ever eaten, extremely bland beef was over cooked the veg was awfully sad and at 15 pound a head it’s not overly cheap, the staff were lovely and it was busy which is confusing

Staff are lovely, they have an extensive menu and the food is very good. Food arrives hot and fills the plate, not too long to wait either. Plenty of parking and easily accessible.

We went for lunch, I really fancied the home made lasagne. It came out looking like a burger with out the bun. On cutting into it and taking a mouth full it was absolutely stone cold. I then felt the top of the cheese which wasn't even melted and it was like a slab of solid cold cheese. I took the meal back up to the bar, theu just said choose something. Be ifitnof the doubt I chose scampi, when it came out it was watery as hell. Left my meal, went to the bar to pay , no apology no offer of a refund or a drink a dessert. Overall absolutely disgusting. Will never return again or recommend this place to friends and family. You guys should be ASHAMED

Great carvery, Chef Chris very friendly, booking advised, ample parking. Decor needs updating and cleaning but went for food not ambiance and meal was great

This was the first time I visited the hunting lodge since the 1980's and sadly I have to say that the décor, furniture and carpets have not been updated since then. Inside and outside it is very scruffy with filthy floors, especially the toilets. The barmaid was helpful and friendly though. The steal I ordered came out very quickly, not a good sign. They had not let it rest to room temperature and as such it was not properly cooked inside and outside was like munching on old shoe leather. The gammon steak had not been cooked hardly and was largely fat. The chips were hotter than the surface of the sun. The table was dirty and you had to sit on old church pews which were very uncomfortable. The menus themselves were absolutely FILTHY. Drinks not cheap either. No way would I ever return here.

The sign outside says open all day but take note on Mondays and Tuesdays the kitchen shuts for food from 2:30pm till 5:00pm, on other days food all day. Plenty of parking and wheelchair friendly. We arrived on Tuesday at 2:30 and they happily served us ( 2 adults and 1 child ) . The food is first class, very generous portions all freshly cooked and priced very reasonable. The staff were friendly and helpful from start to end, a place we would highly recommend.

Went here for food with the little lady staff were very welcoming as always had the mixed grill was lovely loads of meat and chunky chips in a separate bowl!! Daughters food was good to with good size portions. Great little place.

Must say that although a little more expensive than elsewhere this was the best carvery I’ve ever had. Not only was the pork and beef superb tasty it was so generous. First time ever I’ve not been able to eat all the meat.

Always a great stop off for good food. We have been going there for 29 years. Long may it continue.

Sunday roast really not the best at £15 per meal. Meat was very tough and veg was kept warm well past its best. Two glasses of wine had to be returned as both glasses had lipstick on from previous use or not washed well. First visit for many years, can’t say I’ll return.

I cannot fault the food but the toilets are disgusting. Three weeks ago I asked the owner to fix the lock on one of the cubical’s after an embarrassing moment sat on the toilet. I was assured the problem would be rectified the next day!! Today I have returned and the lock has still not been replaced or adjusted, the door still swings open making the cubical useless for the job it is intended for!! The toilets themselves are still as disgusting with the smell almost unbearable and certainly not good when you have just eaten.

We went on a Sunday for a carvery, on a trip back from a convention. What a delightful place to stumble across, privately owned and run, staff were really friendly and the management were happy to interact with their guests. All round good place to stop off.

The food was good and there is plenty of it too which is almost unheard of now! The prices are good too, quite cheap to be honest. Unfortunately the entire place needs a VERY deep clean. It's pretty filthy, which is a shame. Great if you have dogs with you as they are welcomed.

Booked a table for 8 friendly lady on phone took our order. Went last night table all booked for us. Friendly welcome from all staff. 8 people age range from 11-76 plus a hound. Service was very good and food was excellent and there was plenty. Very reasonable price for all food and drink. Everyone of us was pleased. Will be returning. Thank you to all the young ladies serving us.

Never a bad meal. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Whether it's a Sunday roast, mic week lunch, or evening meal, we have never been disappointed, and it's somewhere we can take out two children and enjoy a meal.

Great service Staff were so friendly and helpful Phoned to pre book table as it was mother's day and staff went above and beyond to get us booked in and accommodate us at late notice. Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely lady who showed us to our table, was great with the kids and got us settled in. Food was delicious, carvery served up with a choice of meats, huge selection of vegetables and stuffing/Yorkshire puddings. Great quality food. Prices were reasonable too for what you got. Telephoned to book a table for mothers day..specifically said one vegan was told yes we can cater for vegans, so booked. Our son phoned an hour later to find what the choice for vegans was to be told we do not cater for vegans as nut roast is vegetarian, most of the veg has butter or cheese in cauliflower cheese. I then phoned back to be told well he can eat vegetables..when I said it was a good job I didn't turn up expecting a vegan meal his reply was so you want to cancel. He couldn't care at all..needs to go on a customer aware course and for a venue not to cater for vegans is very bad.

This is an old school pub with proper grub! Lovely atmosphere and such a nice place to stop for a beer. Kid and dog friendly, what more could you ask for!

Decent pints, sub par food. Staff reluctant to acknowledge issues raised. You're better off going to pubs further into Ivybridge.

Not good. My partner and I wanted to take my in-laws to a traditional pub lunch as they had driven 3 hours to see us for the day. We hadn't been here before but we thought we would give it go. I booked the table for 4 of us days in advance. When we arrived we were seated somewhere that would barely fit 2 people to eat together let alone 4 of us. We were placed next to a large group of adults and young children having food. Kids will be kids but we had todlers nearly knocking over my partners cider on more than 1 occasion because our tables were ridiculously close. It felt as though our table booking was an afterthought. We saw reserved tables for parties of 2 and 3 on larger tables with much more space. We politely asked to swap. The staff were careless and uninterested and clearly couldn't be bothered with the hassle of swapping table numbers. We were banished to a musky damp smelling function room which felt like a canteen to eat our meal in. We were the only ones there. The food was 50/50 but what really ruined the whole experience was the atmosphere. What could have been a lovely cosy traditional pub and carvery turned into an embarrassing mistake.
