Nice big pub by the side of the A38. Tribute, Doom and a very good pint of Jail Ale. The food is good at a reasonable price. Plenty of room with different areas. Owner is usually sitting at the bar and friendly. Cheers!

Driven past this pub sooo many times travelling to and from Plymouth but a family occasion caused us to make a visit, and it was well worth the stop! Sunday is carvery day and at £15 per head (adult) and £7.50 (kids) I think it’s excellent value for money, with a choice of two meats and about a thousand vegetables - ok I’m exaggerating slightly. Large car park with easy access off the eastbound carriageway of the A38. I would recommend booking as there were a lot of “reserved” notices on the tables as we were leaving! You could relax by one of the log fires 🔥 with my book “Professor Harry Parker and the Tunnels of Argonaut Bay” available on Amazon kindle! If enough people buy it J.K. Rowling might have to pursue me through the courts! 🤣

Fairly big pub in an out of the way place ( although just off the busy A38 . The staff were very friendly but the owner was a bit of a grump . Some elderly diners in for Sunday lunch were not sure how the ticket for the carvery worked and I found him a bit short with them . Food was nice but the meat was a bit tasteless ( beeef ) . There are cobwebs on the entrance door near the path and I saw some mosquitoes flying up as I opened it . Pub is a bit tatty . Worn greasy looking edges on some bar stools . And the main seating area for food looks like a small church ( pews )

We dropped into the pub for some food and drinks as it was my son’s birthday. We were greeted by a polite lady and told where to sit. I didn’t realise being a Sunday the only food they did was a carvery but as it was it didn’t matter as it was what we fancied. The food was nicely priced and plenty of it, we were well happy with it. The meat was cooked to perfection and you could have as much vegetables as you wanted. In all a nice little country pub which we will visit more often.

The cavery was the worst we’ve ever had. Over priced at £15 for cold mushy food that literally tasted of nothing. Mushy roast potatoes, dry meat and veg that tasted like water. We always drive past the hunting lodge on the A38 but thought we’d meet up with some family and see what it was like. Upon entering the over powering smell of the disgusting toilets put me off straight away, we were greeted by a lovely gentlemen at the bar and quickly shown to our table, decor was really outdated and had a very damp and musty smell about the place, after about 20 mins, we had to go to the bar to ask for some menus, told to look on the board for specials, when we had decided, again had to go up and order from the bar. When the food did arrive, it was amazing, portions sizes were really big and arrived quite quickly, after finishing our meal, no one came to collect our plates and we had to go and ask for this to be done, to which 4 members of staff started arguing about who had collected our plates, they quickly came and took them away, when we asked for dessert menu, they said you have to look at the board, on the other side of the pub!! When desserts came out only 1 arrived after seeing other plates come out for other customers we went to the bar and asked where our other desserts were, we only ordered 3, the staff member replied that they were just doing it, and then when they brought it over said they had run out of ice cream! While we were eating our desserts, the strongest smell of poo was coming from the toilets, it was so off putting! We didn’t tip and unfortunately because of the poor service and the foul smell, we won’t ever be returning!

This was the first time I visited the hunting lodge since the 1980's and sadly I have to say that the décor, furniture and carpets have not been updated since then. Inside and outside it is very scruffy with filthy floors, especially the toilets. The barmaid was helpful and friendly though. The steal I ordered came out very quickly, not a good sign. They had not let it rest to room temperature and as such it was not properly cooked inside and outside was like munching on old shoe leather. The gammon steak had not been cooked hardly and was largely fat. The chips were hotter than the surface of the sun. The table was dirty and you had to sit on old church pews which were very uncomfortable. The menus themselves were absolutely FILTHY. Drinks not cheap either. No way would I ever return here.

What's happened to this place? Been here many times but today was awful. I booked a table for two and there was a bit of confusion where to sit us, once seated we were waiting ten minutes for our drinks (which initially went to the wrong table) were told our food orders would be taken separately, which they were around ten minutes later. We got our food 50 minutes after arriving. It was luke warm and the chips were hard and dry, the 'gammon' was little more than a slice of bacon, the chicken breast was small and dry. We left half of our meal. When asked if everything was ok I said the food wasn't as it should be, the waitress reported back to the manager who offered a free drink, but we declined as we had to leave (given that we had already been kept waiting). I paid £35 for two soft drinks and two main meals which were all but inedible. The waitress was lovely and apologetic which stopped me taking it further. So disappointed with the visit, I have been ripped off. Maybe it was an off day, but I don't think I will be returning anytime soon, and certainly not for food.
