The best restaurants serving British food in South West

Absolutely awful service. Booked a table for 9.am. typing this review at 10.05am and still no breakfast! No drinks were offered until 9.35am, ordered moccha got hot chocolate. Most of which was on the table as it was badly carried to the table. 9.50 am finally asked for our orders, I said how as no menu provided. Waitress said it was because we weren't sat at a "breakfast table"!! The table we were told to sit at ? 9.55am, cutlery bought to us but no food, not even toast. 10.10am 1 glass of apple juice placed on table but no pineapple juice or 2 x lattes we ordered 20 mins ago!! Tables that were seated after us were asked their orders first. Such a shame as our first stay was amazing. Last nights dinner service & quality of food was amazing. Breakfast ends/ended 10 am. Checkout is 11.am !! Extremely disappointing experience. STILL NO FOOD at 10 15am and I'm on the verge of just leaving without now.

Best cooked breakfast I've had for years. Staff are lovely and friendly. Great coffee, great atmosphere, great food and a spot next to the wood burner. What more do you need. Could have stayed all day !

Arrived after having a year away to find no tea room and part of the shop (next to the actual water wheel). This is such a shame but I suppose its probably due to visitor numbers falling as nowhere to have a cuppa & snack although there are nearby alternatives that are comparable to what were the high prices. The remaining shop stock has stayed the same items of clothing and tourist pieces. Could do with a revamp, new stock items to breath fresh air into it. Other than that staff friendly as usual.

Walking down the street a noticed a advert mentioning a hot roast pork baguette served with cracking and apple sauce had to give it a try Well the product was 10 of 10 I just wished I ordered a large one Fresh juicey and tasty full recommend for the price and quality 👌🏽🔥

Brilliant customer service, really friendly bar staff and great food. Decorated for Halloween which was a hit with the kids.

We were in Bude for a day and decided to have fish and chips for lunch. The staff were friendly and served us promptly and the food was very good. Fresh and abundant portions. Inside the restaurant was narrow but stretch out lengthways which wasn’t great but there was enough room for the 5 of us.

Just had a family lunch of 11 of us. The service was impeccable, the variety of food on offer was sufficient and different from usual pub fayre with very tasty curries. Biryani was full of flavour, with good vegetarian and children's options. Trad Sunday lunch excellent with fresh veg. The staff were so friendly and attentive on what was a very busy day. Decor and cleanliness tip top. A real pleasure, we were looked after very well from start to finish. Prices reasonable too, although the desserts may need to be rebalanced between cost and quantity. Our go to for breakfast everytime we visit the area, the eggs benedict is the best I’ve ever had and the vegetarian breakfast is huge, we won’t go anywhere else now.

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.

Arrived at 12.30 to be told they’d decided to close the kitchen as they had no custom. Really annoyed as we’d travelled a few miles knowing there was new tenants

Lovely local pub. Great food and warm welcome. Always have had a good meal when we have gone. Highly recommend if you are in the area

Shame the gammon is no longer on the menu, it was one of the best meals I’ve had! Having stayed several times and enjoyed it on numerous evenings I was disappointed it was no longer available.

Great pub, dog friendly, great food, holloumi burger and steak baguette were beautiful, service was brilliant with a great choice of beers and wines, we will definitely be back next time we visit Devon. Hemyock is a beautiful village and we'll worth a visit.
