Service was good but the food was truly awful. I had a seriously nasty burger, beef? was dry and utterly tasteless. Chips in a bucket thing were overcooked and very dry too. She had a miniscule lasagna with aubergine? and hardly any meat. The worst lunch out this year by far.

What a find this was. Was so good I booked to come back in months time. The food was good, fresh local produce and cooked really well.

A great pub with friendly staff and great food. Dog friendly too. I had belly pork and mash, my partner had slow roasted lamb. Both were well presented and delicious

Nothing fancy about their breakfasts but they are always fresh and lovely. Staff are helpful and they are dog friendly!

On looking at my previous reviews I see it is a decade since my last visit and obviously it has changed hands since then. The place is still shabby and lacking in atmosphere and there is a damp smell lingering throughout the building. Somehow the building seems wrong but I can't really explain that one away and it is not the fault of the management. Whichever way you look at it the place seems unfriendly and not helped by the various people I spoke to either. Not rude exactly but dismissive and disinterested. We had the carvery but I have to say it didn't look much like the photos on their social media page. The cauliflower cheese was nice but everything else seemed a bit tasteless. The meat was edible but I can't say that about the roast potatoes which didn't taste of anything and the bigger ones were hard in the middle so I left them. My husband also left half of his cider as he said it tasted 'off'. Interestingly my review of their carvery all those years ago also criticised the roast potatoes which were not even brown then, surely it is not that hard to roast potatoes? I appreciate different chefs were involved so maybe it is the oven. The place was not very busy which says a lot considering all the local carveries are often fully booked but maybe it was because we went quite late. There are cheaper and better carveries nearby so would I go back, possibly in another ten years time but not any time soon.

We visited on 24th October. It was a reasonable day regarding the weather and Stourhead was busy. We called into the Spread Eagle at about 1.30pm. Positives - we got a table inside. It had been cleared but was sticky. Negatives- no vegetarian sandwiches on the menu. But to be fair I was offered ham cheese and chutney without the ham. My friend selected carrot and coriander soup. Both meals were awful. The soup was so diluted that it was tasteless. My brown bread was tasteless as was the awful processed cheese slice (who still uses these abominations?). Only the chutney had flavour. Final negative was that I was chased out of the pub and accused of not paying. I explained exactly how I had paid only to be greeted with a shrug and “ok I believe you” - like she didn’t! And on top of that they dare to add 10% service charge.

Another fantastic lunch at The Eggcup! Abbi accommodated 38 of us for an amazing Sunday lunch. We pre-ordered our meals, as we were such a large party celebrating my father’s birthday weekend, and the staff, as always, went above and beyond for us. It is set in such a lovely area and run by a beautiful family. The flavour of the meals is 100% and you always feel full to the brim with their generous portion sizes. If you haven’t tried their roast dinners, you really are missing out. I ordered a birthday cake for my dad’s party and it delivered on every aspect. The wow factor in presentation (people are still commenting on it) The taste was so fresh and light. Not too sweet and held its shape perfectly in your hand. I gave them a free rein in what sort of cake, and knowing what flavours my dad likes. They came up with a wonderful Eton mess cake, topped with fresh berries and meringue. It was out of this world! The staff at The Eggcup really helped my dad have a fantastic 70th birthday and we are very glad to have this gem on our doorstep. Thank you to Abbi, Jess and the whole team.

Great service, eggs expertly poached. One dog was constantly barking so staff politely asked the owners to take it away, which resolved the issue.

We stayed for the weekend and ate there for every meal - breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was a great selection of good, straightforward, well cooked and delicious food efficiently served by friendly helpful folk. There was a delightfully friendly atmosphere throughout the whole of our stay. We will definitely be visiting again, the sooner then better!

This lovely village pub is under new management and wow, they have made their mark already. The atmosphere is brilliant, food delicious and there are many events organised to enjoy. We attended on curry night - my husband and I had the beef madras which was really tasty. My Dad had the chef’s beef and ale pie - and he thought it was delicious! We feel that this pub is a valued part of our community and can’t wait to go again on Friday for the live music entertainment!
