Chosen by a family member. Nice ambience, obviously a popular local pub, proper boozer with add-ons. Friendly barman and decent waiting staff. Starters of venison Scotch egg (nice but ridiculous price), ham terrine and couple of pieces of toast (was good) and calamari ( ridiculous price and size, battered to heck and overcooked. Mains for kids - pasta, sausage roll. Mains for adults - lasagne (decent(, fish chips and peas (in a small bowl, no spoon!) which was average at best and small, the prawn masala (enjoyed but I tasted it and thought it mediocre) two steak and chips - good meat reportedly but came with chips, half a tomato stuffed with garlic, couple of mushrooms and these thinly sliced pieces of onion cooked in a tempura batter - very 70s with a minor twist and pointless. At 33 quid it was ten quid overpriced. All the food is hugely overpriced. Fortunately for me (bank of dad) nobody wanted dessert, with mud puie a tad under a tenner, I was quite pleased.

Excellent lunch. Fabulous quality food, cooked to perfection. Had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch on a sunny autumn Saturday. Interesting menu as well, I went for the king prawn tikka masala which was as good as any curry I have had.

We had a table booked and asked for easy access due to me attempting to walk on crutches. we were given a table right inside the doors to the car park which has a slope rather than steps. We have been before and were pleased that the drinks and food all arrived quickly as we had experienced a delay with starters on our previous visit. Starters of Calamari and Ribs. Calamari portion size had reduced but tasted great. Ribs were a really large portion for a starter and mega tasty. Mains. I opted for the steak and my wife had the fish. The fish was superb and they had brought a spoon for the sauce which meant none was wasted. The steak was good but I felt a little expensive for something not that different compared to other local pubs offering Warrens steak. Chips get a thumbs up. Deserts were very tasty and beautiful to look at but we think are still overpriced. We appreciate that you don't want a large portion after a large meal but the price would suggest that you are going to get one. Our bill came to a little over £100.

Returned again to this wonderful pub. Food was excellent and a fair price for the high quality. The short delay between ordering food and it being served shows that food is cooked to order, unlike many places. The only, small, criticism is that both the Prawn dish and the Burger were served with skinny fries and not the delicious house fries we have had with other dishes on previous visits. Lemon posset desert cannot be praised highly enough, it was an amazing way to finish the meal.

Overpriced for the proportions of food received and service. Had the beef roast and the beef was still mooing, there was blood over my plate. The roast potatoes were stale, cold and tasted like frozen food. There were little vegetable options and little sizes that somehow was meant to feed 6 people when it would only be enough for 2. The desserts were also overpriced and not worth it.

Large car park. I am disabled so messaged before hand to ask about access etc. Access was OK. We were promised a convenient table for me but were sat in an area which was very difficult to access. No space to push the chair back as we were sat in an alcove. All our group commented on being squashed in an area not suitable for six people. Service is very slow. We waited an age for drinks and an hour for the water to be refilled. The staff were “run off their feet”. The food was good. Everyone enjoyed their meat pies and the calamari starter was excellent. When you get another disabled customer perhaps you could accommodate them better as you do have round tables which are suitable.

Amazing lunch. We both had fish and chips and the food was wonderful. Fish had lovely texture, batter was light and perfectly cooked, house chips were freshly made and properly cooked. Home made tartar was really nice and complimented the fish ideally. Service was friendly and food served fairly fast, despite the bar and restaurant being quite full, and we saw other tables getting the same excellent service. Price was very fair for the quality of the food. Not our first time and, if possible, standards have got even better than before. We will be back.

Service & food not at all what I was expecting. I’ve worked in hospitality practically my whole life, and first impressions are key. When we were arrived we weren’t greeting. Just asked what drink we’d like. We’d said we had a table booked and after our we were given our drinks at the bar, the bar staff carried on serving others. Waiting staff were walking past us. It wasn’t until we asked the bar staff if we can go to our table did he take us. Menu is not great, and not changed since we last went. I like pub food, but not at those prices. No specials either which is a disappointment as the menu is quite boring. I ordered the fish & chips as I’d seen a waitress bring one to a table nearby and it looked really nice. However, when I received mine, it looked nothing like the one that I’d seen. It was a lot smaller. It looked more like a battered sausage than a big piece of fish, when I pressed into it a lot of oil came out. My biggest mistake was not sending it back. Instead, I thought id give it a try as the last time I was here the food was really nice, but I should’ve sent it back. Instead I ate a bit but I then ended up taking off all the batter, which was just soaking wet it wasn’t crispy anywhere. At no point during the meal did any waiting staff come over to ask if everything was okay. we had empty glasses and they didn’t ask if we wanted any more drinks even when they gave us our food they didn’t ask if we wanted anything else. At the end of the meal you could clearly see that something wasn’t right and that I had possibly not enjoyed something about my meal and I was not asked. If I had seen a lot of batter on a customers plate. The first thing I would do was ask if everything was okay with your meal, but I wasn’t asked. I think because this restaurant is associated with the Cornish and Tavistock, I was just expecting a little bit more whether it was because they had been busy during the day because it was a Sunday and they had better staff working during the day that in the evening , but it should just not be like this. I have had comment back from people to say that until they change their menu and continue to do so, people will get bored, and not go as regularly

We were staying at The Cornish ,but I must emphasize ,it is a different market than the Cornish.Food was ok pie crust a bit underwhelming.no depth just Almost Mille feuille layer with out the rise. Shame very good waiting staff did mention about the pie crust .I was led to understand had been mentioned to manager ,but nothing was said . But is good pub grub at reasonable price and that what it is marketed as .Shall certainly return but bit of work to do in certain areas.

Visited with a group of 7 friends, received a warm welcome and we like the new look and feel of the restaurant area. Food was good although I found the choice for vegetarians very limited - only one starter (soup) and choice of 2 mains; the pasta was very good and I understand that the vegan Dahl was good but became a boring after the after the first few mouthfuls. The service was not as ‘polished’ as I would expect from these very experienced owners - had to attract attention to get orders taken(but food delivery was quick) and staff did not know what was on the desserts menu (a lot of ladies want to know this when ordering starters and mains). I will be visiting again but unless the vegetarian choice improves won’t be a regular.

This will prove to be an excellent (and much needed), addition to local slightly upmarket dining. We were amazed at the quality of service, given how little time they've had to recruit and train, very impressive. The inside has been decorated and designed beautifully and clearly no expense has been spared on the fixtures and fittings. There is a "proper" bar area, split from the main restarant by a double-sided fireplace. Pre dinner beers were all perfectly kept and really good, (slight shame all were 4.2 % or higher) . Daily menu is based on availabilty and had an interesting selection to offer, (though slightly oddly, no chicken.) Wines were very good and fairly priced, we had a pink, dry rosé at £22, very reasonable indeed. The food continued the high standards. I had a wonderful dish of pork and my wife had a lovely looking and generous sized piece of Hake, though it was slightly over salty to her taste. The mains are a little like the sister pub, the Cornish Arms, (although more generous), in that they are not quite sufficient on their own, (especially if no starter was taken.) As said, service was excellent, indeed superior to other local establishments and the food was well above average. Remarkable given how recently it has opened. Exciting stuff and we shall become regulars.

We have been many times as the food is unbelievable and the staff warm and welcoming. Consistently great food is hard to find as it depends on the day, but not the case here. Excellent every time. And the variety is amazing. Haven't had Thai food this good outside of Thailand. The quality of the food is obvious and the variety meets all tastebuds. Staff were very happy to allow us to do that and swiftly boxed it up for us to take home. Having arrived at 6.30pm we were the first to order but it took 45 minutes before our meal arrived. The meal itself was enjoyable. It was the waiting that anger us. The pub could have been warmer as well

On holiday we found this local pub for our evening meals. ALL the bar staff were helpful polite and friendly to say the least. The pub atmosphere was warm friendly and inviting and the food was excellent value for money. Wish we lived nearer!!!!

This is our go to place when we just fancy a satisfying pub meal and where you can always find something a little different off the specials. Yes sometimes you have to wait - but I’d rather wait for freshly prepared food than a 5 minute turnaround in the microwave. The choice and variety of the specials never ceases to amaze us and we are consistently left pleased we visited.

First time here tonight. Food was delicious! We had whitebait, pate and squid starters. Pork belly, sirloin and salmon pasta. For dessert, trifle, sundae, travel tart and brownie. All the food was well presented, generous portions and tasted wonderful. Bar staff (couple) were welcoming. Waiting staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a trip to this place - recommend!

Decided to have a starter (garlic mushrooms), they were lovely and filling. But somehow we still managed Lambs liver, mash and fries! Lovely staff.

Booked for a birthday meal with the family. Pre-booking was asked whether we wanted bar of restaurant seating and was told restaurant was quiet. On arrival was shown to the restaurant which is very utility and with a young family the other customers definitely wasn't quiet. The menu is supported with a specials board and looked extensive.

We visited here for a meal for the first time and were not disappointed! I had driven past it a week before and thought how lovely it looked with beautiful hanging baskets outside and just knew it would be a good place for a meal.

We've been numerous times as two couples. This meal was disappointing. The curry looked awful and tasted more like a Chinese than a Madras. My meal was the steak and ale pie, very large but pretty tasteless. My wife had scampi which was ok and the other lady had gammon which was massive but average. We all noticed the prices seemed to have gone up a fair bit. My my wife and I had upset stomachs for 2 days. Not impressed. Probably won't go back.

Nice selection of pub food, nice to have a pub filled with locals that always provide a nice atmosphere. Meals were large in side and reasonably priced.

Fabulous food and we would go again. They were quite busy (it's worth booking) and I am sure it was oversight, but we sat for 20 mins before anyone came to take our order (hence the 4 star rating) and then we had to flag someone down, As a result it was an hour before we were eating. We were quite happy to wait for the freshly cooked food. Apart from that everything was really good. Friendly staff, comprehensive menu at a reasonable price for the quality, good choice of drinks. The bar and the restaurant areas both serve food and give a totally different feel. Restaurant is quieter and cooler, the bar is quite lively and pretty warm as it filled with people. We got there at 7pm on Saturday and it was already very busy in the bar. We would certainly go again.

First time visiting this restaurant after reading the lovely reviews. Expecting to have a lovely cooked breakfast in the restaurant to start our day only to be told restaurant not open due to no staff. Take away only Had 2 baps and 2 coffees £18 very disappointed the baps were small brioche buns. Won’t be returning..

Highly recommend this traditional family run pub. The Landlady is the hardest working person I have ever met and always with a smile on her face. She made us so welcome as did the locals. Lots of locals (good sign) and excellent menu. Not too fussy - just good traditional pub food. I had the sausages & mash with onion gravy with freshly cooked vegetables. Great desserts. We stayed overnight on a Devon Coast to Coast bike ride. My room in the main building was clean, fresh sheets and a bath!!! Essential on a bike riding trip! Views from the pub are stunning when the sun is shining. There is a caravan park out the back. There is cottage accommodation as well which is basic. I encourage you to visit and support them.

We visited here whilst in the area for a few days unfortunately we found the White Hart Inn not until our last evening and we wished we found it on our first. The staff were very welcoming and friendly we felt most welcome it kind of made our trip being here. The food was superb and we could not believe the devon prices so reasonable sort it out cornwall! Easy double the price back home half the taste. Plenty of parking, dog friendly, will leave with change. We speak often of going back

The Post Inn, a stone's throw from the Whiddon Down Travelodge and seemingly the only viable food option within walking distance. Upon reading the overwhelmingly glowing reviews me and my fair lady excitedly headed for dinner post exploring Dartmoor in much need of freshly made home nourishment. Ambience wise the place is interesting, definitely a local's English Pub. Various old world Bric a brac and guitars adjourned the walls alongside the vibrant plastic plants. For the drinkers, a nice selection of local ale and ciders from the well stocked bar, no complaints here. Now onto the food...mid range priced at Gastropub levels we were both anticipating some well cooked locally sourced produce from a competent chef. What we received was even more soulless than a Wetherspoons microwave meal for double the price and without the free pint! Fish and chips, £16 I thought to myself 'An English Classic, It'd be hard to mess this up' A brief wait and what arrived was an overcooked piece of frozen fish drier than the Sahara desert with the batter rock hard and probably best used as a cricket bat. Frozen peas hopefully steamed but possibly microwaved and unseasoned. The Fries were OK but clearly just frozen and dumped into the frier. The little Lady, she ordered a burger which again really lacked any taste and seemed frozen or boiled to temperature served for her in an inedible GF bun. She fed it to the Pub dog and hoped the poor thing wouldn't choke to death. Food Price and quality seriously letting the place down. Once bitten twice shy.
