We recently visited the Mary Tavy Inn with my parents to celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary. The food was great, the service was excellent. There was an anniversary card waiting for my parents on the table when we arrived which was a nice touch. The waitress was really friendly and took photos of us all together. My mum and I have coeliac disease and it was a real pleasure to have so many gluten free choices on the menu.

A great Sunday home cooked roast! Lovely tender meat, I picked the mixed meat option! One member of my family had a nut roast they highly recommended! Potatoes to die for, very soft! Lovely fresh veg! The service was great, every table was taken it was a great atmosphere and we can’t wait to return! Thanks The Mary Tavy Inn

Lovely welcome, great service, good atmosphere in a clean and freshly, tastefully refurbished restaurant area which gave high hopes. However, the Sunday Lunch was distinctly average. The meat was pre-sliced and reheated, the potatoes and gravy tasteless with the smallest, raw, hockey puck style Yorkshire puddings! We would come again as there were many positives, and are hopeful food quality would improve to the level of the service!

The pub is cute and the staff are charming and friendly. We found the food to be pretty average. The soup being a bit lacking in flavor, the fish pies being mostly potatoes, and the desserts being good. It was fine, but if we were in the area, we'd likely go somewhere else.

Lovely warm welcome I had to wait for 2 hours for my sons football match and it was raining, they were fully booked for food but made me very welcome at the bar for drinks. We had Sunday lunch here. The food was OK, the meat was disappointing, as were the potatoes, but the rest of the veg was OK. We had booked ahead, but were given a cramped table in the bar, although there were no other diners in that part at the time, so plenty of free tables.

Sunday roast average at best short on veg for out bit table, broccoli was absolutely stinking for some reason. Must of been in the pantry all week. Yorkshire puds were heavy and failed to rise. Staff could not work out how to put an extra table together for us so we sat apart on the table literally next to to our original table. Manager was rude. As stated average ar best menu was very small and staff very slow

We went to Mary Tavy Inn for the first time in many years, the decor has really improved and the garden fab too. Had the Sunday roast, £18.95 for 2 meats. £17.95 for 1 meat. Plenty of it, lots of meat and veg and generous with the gravy - nothing fancy just like a nice homemade cooked meal which was very tasty. Too full to have a pudding but the menu looked good with things like spotted Dick and custard and honeycomb cheesecake 😋 Would be good if they had the option of a smaller portion for those with a lighter appetite. We will certainly be back again 😊

Booked a table for a mini celebration for my boyfriend and I. We were greeted straight away by a smiling face and were taken to our seats. We ordered mains and desserts, and it was all to die for! What I find usually lets a place down is a lack of service, but this place has got it spot on! We didn’t have to wait for a thing, and were checked on a several times throughout the evening to make sure we didn’t need anything else. We would definitely recommend this place, we will be returning! Unfortunately I didn’t catch any staff names, but those of you working in the restaurant on 31/08/2024 were all absolutely brilliant!

Came for an evening meal, after spending all day trying to decide on somewhere. We chanced not booking (although it is probably best to) and we were greeted by super friendly and welcoming staff. We were seated in the Warm and well decorated dining room within minutes, drinks were fast at arriving, and the bar has a huge variety of local and 'normal' offerings. Food menu was good, and being Gluten Free this Inn offered a good choice. Quality of food was excellent, service was excellent, staff were excellent, very polite and attentive which we feel is especially important. We will return again if we are in the area in future!!

Been here twice, both days miserable weather so the nice atmosphere and food here were most welcome. It’s a friendly local with good food, first visit as a couple(bit earlier in spring) we just sat by the wood burner and had something light each from the menu. The restaurant was full on this lunchtime. Then as a family we’ve been back and had a proper lunch. Delicious. We had pies (I hardly ever eat pies but they sounded and looked good on another table). Our new favourite pub for a good meal in the Tavistock area.

wow, what a lovely pub and a very friendly welcome, loved the atmosphere and warmth as soon as we walked in, it was freezing outside so it was so nice to be greeted by a lovely log fire, couldn't get near it though because it was taken up by the owners. We ordered cottage pie with red cabbage and fish pie with vegetables. Sadly disappointed , the fish pie sauce was very watery, would have needed a spoon, it would have been nice to have the sauce cling to the fish, the cottage pie was very bland and grey looking, gristly mince, definitely needed hp sauce to add flavour and the mashed potato on top was sloppy, however, the red cabbage and the rest of the vegetables were lovely. Its such a same, with a few tweeks it could have been very tasty. At the prices charged, just over £30 for the two dishes, it was an expensive lunch. We had high expectations when we walked in and were looking to book an evening meal in the future, a shame because it is such a lovely and very clean pub with lovely staff

I’m reviewing only from a lunch stop we made. We haven’t stayed overnight but I couldn’t review any other way. We had been for a walk in Lydford Gorge and were making our way to Sheepstor for a walk. We tried a pub nearer to Lydford Village on the main road…am I pleased they said they couldn’t serve us. They were too busy. On entering The Mary Tavy we were welcomed by the barman and asked if we wanted to sit in the restaurant or bar. I took one look at the bar, beautifully decorated, the licensee had put a lot of love and thought into it. But this is also a special area for locals who were welcoming too. There is a pool table, tv etc which I’m sure is very well used. What I especially liked was the seating area created that had a lot of interesting photographs of the pub and the regulars. The obvious updating in the bar had not swept that all away but made it a focus. Musical instruments on the wall, it was all just very well done and we didn’t set foot in the restaurant! Must also say spotlessly clean toilets. Now the important point…the food and service!!! Friendly helpful service, could not be faulted. I chose beautifully succulent St Austell Mussels cooked in a cream and white wine stock. Perfectly cooked too. My husband enjoyed a bacon and chicken baguette and we shared chips. Perfect lunch after a walk and before another one! Should say there is a large car park. Thanks to all at The Mary Tavy, you have a lovely pub for locals and visitors too. A memorable visit for all the right reasons.

Really disappointing experience here on Mothers days as a family of 4. Booked in for a Sunday roast at 2, and once seated we went to order 4 vegetarian roasts and were asked if we were in fact ‘actual vegetarians’ because they were running low....

What a lovely pub…. Warm and welcoming with happy, friendly and helpful staff. If you’re like me and like a really hot coffee then Becky makes the best coffee around… Denise who seems to run the restaurant with happy efficiency (and sometimes surprises you by...

Had a lovely meal at the Mary Tavey inn, they were very friendly and welcoming, thoroughly enjoyable, and very accommodating as I am gluten free.

Highly recommend this traditional family run pub. The Landlady is the hardest working person I have ever met and always with a smile on her face. She made us so welcome as did the locals. Lots of locals (good sign) and excellent menu. Not too fussy - just good traditional pub food. I had the sausages & mash with onion gravy with freshly cooked vegetables. Great desserts. We stayed overnight on a Devon Coast to Coast bike ride. My room in the main building was clean, fresh sheets and a bath!!! Essential on a bike riding trip! Views from the pub are stunning when the sun is shining. There is a caravan park out the back. There is cottage accommodation as well which is basic. I encourage you to visit and support them.

We visited here whilst in the area for a few days unfortunately we found the White Hart Inn not until our last evening and we wished we found it on our first. The staff were very welcoming and friendly we felt most welcome it kind of made our trip being here. The food was superb and we could not believe the devon prices so reasonable sort it out cornwall! Easy double the price back home half the taste. Plenty of parking, dog friendly, will leave with change. We speak often of going back
