Lovely local pub, friendly staff, good food, freshly cooked with GF option on fish and chips. Also beer was very good. Perfect for a Saturday lunch near Tavistock.

Amazing Sunday lunch. Beautiful meats and great choice of vegetables. Good sweets to select from all homemade and large range of regional beers. Lovely staff and welcomed our damp dogs too!!

Honestly I don't want to tell too many people about this place just in case I can't get a table. It was our first visit. Staff were helpful. Food was excellent and the pub is just delightful. We'll be going back.

Went out with friends of ours for a meal and drinks. Food was lovely, really tasty! . Good ales on offer too. Great pub atmosphere which is hard to find these days.

Walked in to a lovely warm welcoming atmosphere, a rarity in a lot of pubs these days! Service was good and very friendly, I had the steak which was cooked to perfection and had the most amazing onion rings to go with it! The portions were very generous indeed, maybe a little too generous on the chip front! 🤣 we had a lovely evening here - thank you!

Visited this pub and had already eaten but decided to try the breaded Camembert bites. They were delicious and came with berries. It just elevated the dish. Will the manager? Was so welcoming. And if we are in the area again we will definitely visit for drinks and dinner.

I recently held my mum's funeral wake at the Whitchurch inn. They provided a good selection of food and coffees and teas. We stayed all afternoon and were made very welcome. Definitely recommend the pub for any future functions.

Popped in to this lovely local while staying at a nearby campsite , fantastic little pub staff were extremely friendly and helpful even offering to take us back to our campsite if we couldn't get a taxi, food was fantastic and the atmosphere was great, will definitely visit again if in the area thank you for making us so welcome and the dog treats menu was a bonus 😀

Popped in to this traditional Inn for a late Sunday lunch after a morning in Tavistock, just a few miles away. Most tables were showing reserved signs so we were unsure we could be accomodated. We received a lovely warm welcome from the bar man who found us a brilliant table. I was relieved that they offered 'small plates' of the traditional Sunday roasts. Orders taken promptly and food delivered after only a few minutes wait. The selection of vegetables was impressive and they were perfectly cooked. Even an extra jug of gravy. HUGE Yorkshire pudding! Really one of the best Sunday roasts I've had in a long time. Attentive service with a smile from all staff and a surprisingly reasonable final bill. Highly recommended for food quality and cooking, service, value and atmosphere! After lunch we found a well equiped rural childrens play park very close by which was really helpful prior to the journey home. We will be sure to return!

This place is so lovely! The most welcoming staff, and a lovely atmosphere in the pub. We were only visiting the area, but it was clear that the locals were all having a lovely time, everyone was inclusive and we made a few friends. The food was lovely, proper home cooked grub (I grew up in the restaurant industry - this was good quality pub grub!) and the beers were good. We felt very looked after, and they made the dog mega comfy too.

Absolutely excellent Sunday roast in lovely old Devon pub. Landlord such a nice genial host we even forgave him being an Arsenal supporter. Will definitely be returning. Huge main and pudding 3 drinks each and bill £28 a head

Friends and I had Sunday lunch here. I liked the friendly informality. I can recommend the traditional beef with Yorkshire pudding. Special praise for the roast potatoes. We drank local ales and ciders. Mine was Legend - recommended. While there, the Grade I listed St Andrew’s Church next to the pub should be seen.

Friendly, delicious food, good range of local cider and beer, clean .. next to splendid church with history; I had not been here for about twenty years and was so pleased to find such a treat waiting for us.

food was really good, when we arrived there were 3 people serving, service was good to start with the waiter brought out the drinks and then the food (which was very good) and said he would be back for second drinks order but he seemed to disappear waited ages, ended upgoing to bar to order second round of drinks , we were going to order puddings but by the time we were offered dessert menu nobody now wanted anything. it was now just one person serving on the bar who was chatting to the people on the bar and no one serving the tables, we ended up not ordering anything else and left early. So good food not so good table service was our opinion.

This is a wonderful authentic village pub. I ordered the rump steak with blue cheese sauce. I have had hundreds of steaks before and been to Michelin star restaurants. This was easily the best steak I have ever had! Will definitely be returning soon!

As I was visiting a friend we booked in to eat at Whitchurch Inn pub very friendly pub food was delivered to table on time and hot and delicious to felt the curry could of been not so hot on the chilli side but in saying that I did manage to eat it all.thanks heidi and Mark

Our lovely little family friendly local pub. Your greeted with a warm welcome from behind the bar and will be chatting to the locals before you even order your drinks. We only moved to the area in spring 2021 and never had a local pub, so to have such a welcoming place like this on our doorstep makes it even more of a gem. We call ourselves locals now but we were made to feel like that the day we first walked into bar.

The Whitchurch has deservedly become our favourite haunt since we moved to Tavistock. Sunday lunch is a must and something we always look forward to. The staff are welcoming, friendly and attentive. A recommended pub that doesn't disappoint.

My wife and I had a lovely Sunday lunch. The beef was cooked perfectly as was the pork roast. The trimmings were excellent just enough to leave us satiated! What with a few beers it made for a great Sunday.

My wife and I had Sunday lunch here, and I must say the roast duck was delicious, and the mountain of vegetables were perfectly cooked, attentively seen to by the lovely bar staff, I think Lorraine was the name of the lady, she was excellent. We would highly recommend this pub, beautiful inside.

Fantastic venue and superlative food.

This is a gorgeous little country pub with two lovely fireplaces and great decor. The food was good - steak cooked very well and my wife’s steak and ale pie was also a hit. It was a great shame this was all let down by a small group of “locals” who clearly thought they owned the place and were shouting, screaming and swearing at the bar. I’m pretty tolerant (you should see the people I work with)... but this was at 6pm, not nearing closing time. If I’d had a young family I would’ve really had an issue with it, luckily I haven’t any more or there may have been a problem. We still enjoyed it but it was let down by a few idiots... and that’s what they were. Shame really

Visited here as a couple with a friend we hadn't seen for 45 years. The pub was just the right place to meet up; not too busy but plenty of friendly atmosphere and we enjoyed our lunch very much.

Nine of us arrived at seven for our annual get-together. The table was laid, drinks quickly ordered and menus provided. Starters for some, more dinks for others and plenty of catching-up discussion. The main courses were very good...the seasonal veg received plenty of compliments and were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Desserts were a problem...we all wanted to try them all!!! The chocolate fondant was a triumph. Compliments were passed to the chef and the other staff. We left content and will certainly return.

Went in here on our last night whilst in Tavistock visiting friends, must say we were very impressed the place has a very cosy feel and the food was excellent, I had steak pie and it was the best I'd ever had.The barmaid was very polite and attentive (think her name was Katie) and the waitress was very polite and interacted with us very well.Would highly recommend the place

My wife and I were staying local and had passed this charming little place on more than one occasion. We noticed they had some great vegan options too and decided to give it a go, we are so glad we did. It’s such a beautiful pub inside, with such a lovely atmosphere. The decor is stunning with beautiful beams and a huge fireplace, the staff are extremely friendly and service was top notch! On top of all this, the food was absolutely delicious too, honestly one of the best pub style meals I’ve had, huge onion rings, beautifully cooked chips and a phenomenal burger! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience

We happened to drive past The Whitchurch Inn earlier in the week and thought it looked nice to marked it down for a meal later in the week. I went with my husband, we are both vegetarian and added to that I am pregnant and fussy at the moment! The food was amazing!!! My husband had the mushroom and halloumi burger and I had the spinach and Leek linguine, we also had onion rings and garlic bread on the side. We were absolutely stuffed and very satisfied. Delicious food, one of the best meals I've had out in a long time. I was worried the linguine might be too rich, as I've had similar things before, but it was perfect. The garlic bread was delicious and the onion rings beautiful. I stole a chip from my husband and even that was perfect. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the whole atmosphere was great considering it was a Wednesday night in a small village out of season. The pub had a real olde worlde charm with beautiful beamed ceilings and a stunning fireplace. Would highly recommend if you are in the area!!

Sorry it's another 5 star review. This pub is on the edge of Dartmoor and the outskirts of Tavistock. Character galore and a very welcoming atmosphere. Wonderful selection of Beers and the menu should suit most people. I am fussy and loved it. £59 for four meals and drinks.

We own a holiday let near Tavy and use the Whitty as a local, although lately less so. Took some friends last week and have to say underwhelmed. Good old menu favourites such as the burger which was always a good fill, served on a board with lots of extras, has been replaced with the most boring plate of burger, plain bun and chips. Three of our party ordered this and were not impressed. Two of us had the belly pork, which was ok but the arty farty looking veg was virtually raw. The Chinese style sauce was clearly out of a bottle. Beer was still good, hence I’ve marked 3 stars, food I would rate as pretty poor. Bring back the old chef! Don’t try and compete with The Cornish in Tavy, I’d rather you served good value, pub grub.

Great pub food in a beautiful Devon village

We were passing by heading for Dartmoor and happened upon this fine old pub just as the stomach was telling me that I had missed lunch. A great menu, friendly efficient service and good beer fixed the problem. I had the bangers and mash, with a pint of Dartmoor Jail Ale, she had the fish cake special and a shandy. Two satisfied travellers were on their way again.
