What a pub!! I booked a table here purely based on its close proximity to our hotel, but have now found a new favourite pub. The most welcoming, classic British pub with awesome staff, great beers & delicious food. We are a family of 4 and it was also a huge hit with the kids. My girl made friends immediately playing hide & seek and my toddler made friends with locals at the bar. Huge thanks to the guys/ legends behind the bar who jumped at the opportunity to sing Happy Birthday to my wife whilst delivering our desserts. Will be finding excuses to stop in Whiddon Down more often.

We visited this wonderful traditional village pub following a recommendation from the local Travel Lodge where we were staying. The pub, which is over 500 years old, offers a very reasonably priced selection of meals, including vegan/vegetarian options. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was great. Everything was freshly cooked and the portions were very generous! There is a free carpark to the rear. I will happily revisit if in the area again - if I lived nearer, I expect I would visit this pub very regularly!

Beautiful little tradition pub, very nice food and super helpful and excellent service

Popped over after doing some work with a friend and was blown away to see an actual classic British pub. Nothing too modern, keeping the old look. Wooden bar, wooden posts with old barn-style ceilings, a great view from the back. My only complaint really is that it's right next to the main road, so the noise may be annoying at times. However if you're there when it's not too busy, it's a very peaceful and relaxing place to be. I'd definitely come here again.

We went to Devon for a week away, this pub was by far my favorite place! Wonderful staff and the landlord is an absolute legend! The food is such great value for money and so yummy! We ate there a few times during our trip and will be back in summer for sure!

This place is a must visit. Staff are brilliant and very friendly. It really felt like we had known the locals for ages. The food was fantastic and they have a great menu. Sunday carvery is a must. It's amazing. The pub is dog friendly too.

For a country pub the food was fantastic. Try the monkfish curry if it’s on the specials board. Very dog friendly too.

First time at the Post inn for Sunday carvery,all I can say is the food and staff are brilliant,great atmosphere ,and dogs allowed.100% recommend

We had a fantastic Sunday roast on 28 Jan, and the person who left the review was in the pub with his golden retriever, at the same time as us. It was extremely busy as usual due to thr carvery being so good. All the veg us freshly cooked on the day, nothing frozen apart from garden peas . And there was a good selection of it too At 2.45pm you expect after service has been running for almost 3 hours that things will get low but the head chef who runs the carvery was constantly topping up everything too. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner which we had after this person and his dog stomped out, and we had a mountain of fresh veg on our plates!

Absolute terrible service, ended up walking out. Upon arriving, myself and 3 friends ordered a roast. It was my friends birthday so I decided to treat everyone. The manager heard this and took our order. I had my golden retriever with me so my 3 friends went up first, they came back and I went up to collect mine. The carver asked what meat I wanted, I chose my order and then looked at the place where veg is supposed to be, and there was very little and scraps in some of the pots. I asked when the veg would be brought out, (there was an empty basked where brocoli is supposed to be, a small handful of peas covered in water, small amount of old carrots) the carver then looked at me and said “10 mins” I explained that you’ve just served my table (which he knew, as the ticket states what tables) and why would you serve everyone knowing a 4th person is yet to come. He then said he would put my Yorkshire, meat and stuffing in a hot cupboard for 10 mins and call me. I explained that he has just served my table and everyone has started already, and I didn’t want my food sitting in a hot cupboard, I asked for freshly cut meat, Yorkshires etc. he wouldn’t do that. So I went to speak to the manager and explained everything. He too walked out to the veg pots and came back, and said “there’s veg there” I was so shocked and asked him would you pay for old and barely any veg? I asked him what about the empty pots? He just looked at me. To save any more embarrassment and unprofessionalism anymore, I asked for my ticket to be taken off the tab. He didn’t apologise or anything. Went back to my table to explain what just happened. It was my friends birthday and I told them to start without me just before I went up to collect mine. So they were already 5 mins into theirs. Went up to the bar to pay for my friends and not one bit of the bill was taken off, no offer of any drinks or anything. Will never be going back here, and I’ll be sure to share this experience on my social media as well. Do better for your customers

A Little bit slow on the service at the bar side But the food was lovely I would like to see another veggie choice on the menu but what I had was great Relaxed atmosphere Not posh but a fab local style pub We Will be back

It was nice location, food was good.

As soon as we walked in the locals engaged with us. Lovely friendly atmosphere in the Devonshire pub. Very busy which speaks volumes. Bar staff exceptional. Delicious traditional meals. Thick ham with the ham egg and chips and very nicely cooked liver with the liver and bacon option. A scrumptious £15 bottle of Pier 42 Shiraz just made our 3 hours in there excellent value.

Bar staff fantastic, especially Rhiannon. But I I have to say The £9.95 baguette was awful. Waited 30 minutes for this shambles of a snack. It fell apart. Baguette totally inedible. Only ate the contents. I think the Chef needs to learn how to make a basic snack. So annoyed £10 for this. Morissons petrol station offer better. But thanks for the bar staff nice people..

Alright, let's ditch the fancy talk and give The Post Inn the five-star review it deserves, pub-style! We rolled in last night, famished and ready to rumble. I dove into their liver and bacon, and let me tell you, it was epic. Liver like silk, bacon like crispy clouds, and mash smoother than a politician's promises (but way more delicious). My wife tackled the lasagna, and every bite was pure comfort food heaven. Rich, meaty sauce, creamy béchamel, and pasta that held its own like a champ. Even our picky spud-loving son devoured his jacket potato, declaring it the "king of all potatoes." But then came dessert, and things got SERIOUS. We're talking waffles so fluffy they could float, smothered in Belgian chocolate sauce and berries that burst with fresh flavor. And the sticky toffee pudding? Oh man, that was a game-changer. Imagine a gooey, warm sponge cake swimming in a toffee sauce so sticky it'd make your grandma blush (in a good way!), topped with a cloud of cream that practically begged to be licked off your chin. We left with grins wider than the Grand Canyon and bellies happy enough to do a jig. The Post Inn ain't just your average pub, mateys. It's a place where the food rocks harder than AC/DC, the staff makes you feel like family (the cool kind, not the ones who steal your socks), and the atmosphere is so warm it'll melt your winter blues away. So next time you're hankering for a top-notch feed and a good time, skip the fancy joints and head down to The Post Inn. You won't regret it, and your taste buds will thank you (and maybe beg for more sticky toffee pudding. That stuff's addictive, I tell ya!). P.S. Seriously, don't skip the sticky toffee pudding. Just loved this place, holidaying nearby the Post Inn became our "local" for the week and we were treated as such. A warm and friendly host and staff made us return several times and eat both lunch and dinner on 3 occasions. Good quality Pub Food served with a smile and a bit of banter. If you enjoy the delights of a typical friendly local pub, with good food then this the place for you.

The host was amazing he opened up a little early for my party of 9 so we could get out of the cold and sit and eat the food was very good and I will definitely be going back and would recommend 👌

Food was tasty and portion size just right. Although it was quite busy we didn't have to wait for it. Great value for money - 3 courses and 4 drinks came to £65. Service was exceptional - just the one guy on the bar and serving tables but he was brilliant!

We stopped by for a late lunch on our way to Exeter for some Christmas shopping. Very friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. The food was fairly standard pub fare but was tasty, good value and arrived promptly. A good, friendly, welcoming pub - definitely recommended.

Went here for a nice quiet meal as a couple Lovely warm welcome and amazing food at a very reasonable price. All ingredients were fresh and plenty of it.

Very friendly welcome from the landlord. This is a “proper” pub serving excellent food, in a warm cosy environment. Only here on a one night stop over, so would seriously recommend it for anyone travelling through Devon on the A30.

We went for a family meal after a long day of walking on Dartmoor. The portion sizes were very generous and the food tasted really good. The service was really friendly and a good selection of drinks as well.

We, 4 of us, had a meal at The Post Inn on 19th October and the whole experience was a joy. Our waitress ‘The Gardener’ was first class. We had excellent service and real fun. The food was delicious. Thank you for making the last night of our holiday a real treat.
