this is a real local pub, no horse brasses and other superficial ornaments or plastic arts on the walls - it is a genuine old pub. Don't go there looking for a grockelised pretend country pub. it is genuine, plenty of genuine locals and passing ramblers. It is genuinely rustic. And lovely. Superb food, very reasonably priced . Excellent service. wonderful welcoming atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend And will return !

The Post Inn, a stone's throw from the Whiddon Down Travelodge and seemingly the only viable food option within walking distance. Upon reading the overwhelmingly glowing reviews me and my fair lady excitedly headed for dinner post exploring Dartmoor in much need of freshly made home nourishment. Ambience wise the place is interesting, definitely a local's English Pub. Various old world Bric a brac and guitars adjourned the walls alongside the vibrant plastic plants. For the drinkers, a nice selection of local ale and ciders from the well stocked bar, no complaints here. Now onto the food...mid range priced at Gastropub levels we were both anticipating some well cooked locally sourced produce from a competent chef. What we received was even more soulless than a Wetherspoons microwave meal for double the price and without the free pint! Fish and chips, £16 I thought to myself 'An English Classic, It'd be hard to mess this up' A brief wait and what arrived was an overcooked piece of frozen fish drier than the Sahara desert with the batter rock hard and probably best used as a cricket bat. Frozen peas hopefully steamed but possibly microwaved and unseasoned. The Fries were OK but clearly just frozen and dumped into the frier. The little Lady, she ordered a burger which again really lacked any taste and seemed frozen or boiled to temperature served for her in an inedible GF bun. She fed it to the Pub dog and hoped the poor thing wouldn't choke to death. Food Price and quality seriously letting the place down. Once bitten twice shy.

Where to start...? Having read seemingly positive reviews about the food at The Post Inn, my partner and I were looking forward to having dinner at the establishment. Whilst OK with it being slightly rowdy as it was a Friday night, we were truly disappointed with the service and food that we received. For starters, upon entering the 'Dining Room', it specifically says 'No dogs in the dining room'. Having eyed up the pub's Boxer Dog in the bar, I felt reassured it wouldn't be entering the eating area. However, shortly into sitting at the table, sure enough, the dog was begging at our neighbour's feet for offerings. The friendly bartender attempted to remove the dog, but it repeatedly returned, coming later to our own table whilst eating. For anyone anxious of dogs, this is a serious red flag, let alone anyone with an allergy to animals. Onto the food! My partner's cod was vastly overcooked. He could've used the piece of cod as a door wedge if he wanted to. The chips were about the only saving grace, but at £15.95, we both expected much more. My burger was rubbery, as if bought at the local shop in the frozen section, and the 'gluten free bun' (which was good to be offered) was even harder. We later gave some to the dog in the hope it might be satisfied and go away. Whilst eating, the 'chef' also asked 'how is everything?' and walked away before we even had time to answer. Overall a very disappointing experience. Won't be returning, and definitely didn't feel like tipping! Best part was our drinks, the only thing I didn't mind paying for. The rest felt like an injustice.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch. I had to wait until the vegetarian option was ready. The rest of my family had finished by the time I got mine. We (and the table next to us) we asked if we wanted desert and how long would we be. I hadn't even finished my main course. We won't be returning.

Excellent ham ploughman's, prawn sandwich and sticky toffee pudding. Draught cider and beer very good. We enjoy a coffee to round off a good meal and i asked for americano with milk, to be told in no uncertain terms that there was only black or white. We chose the latter which turned out to be tasteless and watery (instant?). It was not until I checked my bill at home that I realised i had been charged £3.40 each for two small cups! It was our third visit to the Inn and I travelled some distance to meet my friend there. Good quality food and drink let down by poor and expensive coffee to round it off.

Staying over here in our motorhome. Well....apart from being the real deal as a cosy country pub, somebody knows how to cook! Actually I met the lovely man who was the chef tonight. Good traditional menu, with a specials board. The food is home cooking with extra flourish. The best cottage pie I have ever eaten!!! Good meat, excellent recipe ( sssh!) absolutely delicious. Better than my own. Next time I come by I'll be having the smoked fish platter Vegetarian and vegan options and GF bread option. Local beef and and excellent puds! Clean, fragrant loos, for those needing them. Very friendly bar staff who couldn't do enough. Beautiful moorland rural views from the car park and a pretty back garden. Very dog friendly.

What a great pub! We were staying in Cheriton Bishop looking for somewhere to eat on a Tuesday evening and the local pub didn't do food that night; a quick search on Google came up with The Post Inn about five miles down the road and we're glad it did. The Post Inn is one of those pubs you walk into and feel at home straightaway; friendly staff welcomed us like regulars and got us settled with drinks and a menu. The Old Trout ordered the Halloumi burger and I went for the thick-cut ham, egg and chips. Despite the place being quite busy, our order arrived after about 20 minutes which gave me plenty of time to work on my excellent pint of Dartmoor Legend Ale. The portions were enormous but we persevered and after a short break, felt able to consider the dessert options. The OT went for the sticky toffee pudding with a huge dollop of clotted cream and I was only slightly more restrained by having the cheesecake with an equally huge dollop of clotted cream. We were in and out in about an hour and a half but it was a great meal in a really nice pub. Great food and great service at a great price. We took a selfie outside and got photo-bombed by a passing cyclist!

Popped over after doing some work with a friend and was blown away to see an actual classic British pub. Nothing too modern, keeping the old look. Wooden bar, wooden posts with old barn-style ceilings, a great view from the back. My only complaint really is that it's right next to the main road, so the noise may be annoying at times. However if you're there when it's not too busy, it's a very peaceful and relaxing place to be. I'd definitely come here again.

Absolute terrible service, ended up walking out. Upon arriving, myself and 3 friends ordered a roast. It was my friends birthday so I decided to treat everyone. The manager heard this and took our order. I had my golden retriever with me so my 3 friends went up first, they came back and I went up to collect mine. The carver asked what meat I wanted, I chose my order and then looked at the place where veg is supposed to be, and there was very little and scraps in some of the pots. I asked when the veg would be brought out, (there was an empty basked where brocoli is supposed to be, a small handful of peas covered in water, small amount of old carrots) the carver then looked at me and said “10 mins” I explained that you’ve just served my table (which he knew, as the ticket states what tables) and why would you serve everyone knowing a 4th person is yet to come. He then said he would put my Yorkshire, meat and stuffing in a hot cupboard for 10 mins and call me. I explained that he has just served my table and everyone has started already, and I didn’t want my food sitting in a hot cupboard, I asked for freshly cut meat, Yorkshires etc. he wouldn’t do that. So I went to speak to the manager and explained everything. He too walked out to the veg pots and came back, and said “there’s veg there” I was so shocked and asked him would you pay for old and barely any veg? I asked him what about the empty pots? He just looked at me. To save any more embarrassment and unprofessionalism anymore, I asked for my ticket to be taken off the tab. He didn’t apologise or anything. Went back to my table to explain what just happened. It was my friends birthday and I told them to start without me just before I went up to collect mine. So they were already 5 mins into theirs. Went up to the bar to pay for my friends and not one bit of the bill was taken off, no offer of any drinks or anything. Will never be going back here, and I’ll be sure to share this experience on my social media as well. Do better for your customers

We had a fantastic Sunday roast on 28 Jan, and the person who left the review was in the pub with his golden retriever, at the same time as us. It was extremely busy as usual due to thr carvery being so good. All the veg us freshly cooked on the day, nothing frozen apart from garden peas . And there was a good selection of it too At 2.45pm you expect after service has been running for almost 3 hours that things will get low but the head chef who runs the carvery was constantly topping up everything too. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner which we had after this person and his dog stomped out, and we had a mountain of fresh veg on our plates!

Stayed here a couple of times now. Rooms great, food tasty and proper pints of Jail Ale. Karen really friendly too and a good cosy atmosphere 👍

Highly recommend this traditional family run pub. The Landlady is the hardest working person I have ever met and always with a smile on her face. She made us so welcome as did the locals. Lots of locals (good sign) and excellent menu. Not too fussy - just good traditional pub food. I had the sausages & mash with onion gravy with freshly cooked vegetables. Great desserts. We stayed overnight on a Devon Coast to Coast bike ride. My room in the main building was clean, fresh sheets and a bath!!! Essential on a bike riding trip! Views from the pub are stunning when the sun is shining. There is a caravan park out the back. There is cottage accommodation as well which is basic. I encourage you to visit and support them.

We visited here whilst in the area for a few days unfortunately we found the White Hart Inn not until our last evening and we wished we found it on our first. The staff were very welcoming and friendly we felt most welcome it kind of made our trip being here. The food was superb and we could not believe the devon prices so reasonable sort it out cornwall! Easy double the price back home half the taste. Plenty of parking, dog friendly, will leave with change. We speak often of going back
