This was our first visit and we will definitely return. It is dog friendly and we spent a very pleasant lunch time with our friends. We had soup which was home made and tasty. The pub has recently been refurbished in a sympathetic and tastefully way. On a dry warm day it would be nice to sit out in the garden. The inn is well situated for walks on Dartmoor and an excellent place to stop after a walk on the moor. The hotel has also been refurbished, we live in Cornwall and the hotel is somewhere we will definitely consider staying at in the future if we would like to spend a day or 2 in the area

Motorbike got a puncture nearby, came in purely to ask if they had WiFi in order to use our breakdown service. The kind people in there immediately asked if they could offer any help, checked on the bike for me, gave us the WiFi info, poured me and my partner a free drink and put a log on the fire. We were even offered food and got some cuddles from the pub dog! I get people don't like the hunting aspect and hunting decor but they kept us warm and comfortable in our time of need. They couldn't have been more accommodating. Thank you guys. You turned a stressful situation into a pleasant experience.

Do not supprt this hotel or pub in any way if you disagree with illegal hunting. This hotel hosted the Two Bridges Hunt Club this year on 21st Feb 2024 after the Two Bridges Hotel decided they couldn't following the backlash that they've received. Disgusting and grim decision to support that club.

After a long walk in equal amounts of sunshine and heavy rain they were very welcoming. Super impressed with the towels available in the porch to clean your pooch before entry to the main premises. A lovely touch as didn't want to leave pooch in the hot car. They supplied dog water bowls and dog biscuits, so very dog friendly. They also pour a good pint. Would highly recommend a visit.

Rolled in to the hotel after a hot hike down from Yes Tor and made the great decision to stay here. The single room was very tastefully finished, clean and comfortable, plus nice and cool due to the thick stone walls. Had a pizza from the outside oven for dinner, freshly made and very tasty, also recommend the Jail Ale! Can't praise the staff enough for their hospitality, top notch. Plus the location is great, some lovely walks in the area and the stunning clapper bridge and river is just a minutes walk from the hotel.

Had a lunchtime meal with a friend before heading out for a hike and wild camp across the moor. I had the burger and my mate had the steak, both washed down with some perfectly kept Jail ale. Both of us had a great meal, really nice in fact and we left quite content as we headed out into the wilderness. Two days later I returned again with my family for Sunday lunch and had another great experience. Staff seemed to be up against it a bit today but the food was spot on and the beer again did not disappoint. The offering is good quality, good value and honest pub food, at a cracking location. Roast beef was beautiful and my wife really rated the pizza. Will return for sure, thank you.

We visited this pub a couple of years ago before it changed ownership and, as we were in the area, we thought we’d see how it had changed. On walking in, all looked very positive - the decor had been refreshed, the layout altered and it was very inviting. Unfortunately our experience with the food was not so good. We were the only people in the bar when we arrived and we ordered baguettes and some chips to share. The food took almost 40 minutes to be served and was very poor value for money - a couple of rashers of bacon and a tiny piece of chicken on each baguette which cost £8.95 each (the chips were extra). Sadly we won’t be returning!

We parked on the verge opposite the pub at 10 am in the morning to have a walk around the village. The landlord was outside and asked us if we were planning to visit the pub (it wasn't open!) and at the time we hadn't thought about it so we were honest and said no. He then told us that he owned the land we were parked on, and if we didn't move he would clamp the car. We said there were no signs to say it was his land, to which he replied they were being made but not ready yet. My husband said as there were no signs he couldn't clamp the car, but he was adamant that he would and said us tourists thought we had a right to park wherever we wanted. We weren't blocking anything, there was lots of space and there was a car park right next to the pub. I decided to leave as I was on holiday and didn't want to have to worry about the car while I tried to enjoy a walk around the village. We may well have decided to have a drink after we'd finished our walk, but he certainly put paid to that. The landlord obviously has a very low opinion of potential customers.

I stopped here a while ago, and it was an awful experience! The landlord was abusive to staff, rude to customers, and was just not the right person to be in hospitality. As for his wife…. Rude, obnoxious, and also totally lacking in customer service skills, a point that is apparent for all to still see if you read her responses to some of the online comments. People are honest, they’re just rude! Thankfully however, after much coercing, I went back in to the new East Dart Inn last night, and what a transformation! It’s been cleaned for starters, the drinks are fresh, and the staff are absolutely lovely! Such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with the fire on, smiles from behind the bar, and just all round lovely people. The new owners are amazing, and so obviously committed to bringing life back to the place. I hear they’ve only been open a few weeks, but definitely well worth a visit now! Good luck to them, and we’ll all be back

As I suffer from COPD we were a bit wary of booking a break to mark our 54th.wedding anniversary in view of the covid pandemic and the numerous selfish people who simply refuse to follow any government guidelines as it doesn't suit them and damn anyone else.. We have stayed at the East Dart before and thoroughly enjoyed our time there so we decided the somewhat remote location would be a much safer bet for us. We were not disappointed as all patrons were required to observe covid rules which was very reassuring indeed. In spite of staff shortage, which seems to be hitting so many areas at present, the service remained excellent, the food was as great as ever and we hated having to leave when our short holiday came to an end. Well done Paul and Rosie, there are establishments that could learn a thing or two from you on how to run a hotel/pub business where even vulnerable clients can relax without worrying.

We were booked in for 1 ngt, when we booked the hotel was almost full - we had the last 2 rooms - single rooms abs brought the dog with us We booked over the phone the gentleman was really helpful, felt positive about the booking. Arrived about 4pm such a beautiful location and oub, a real country feel. We were allocated room 5 (dog friendly ) and room 3 - I had the room 5 - had a double bed I. There, both rooms en-suite with showers. Good amount fo tea, coffee, sugar and milk pots. Room was spotlessly clean and the bathroom, the bathroom was very roomy. Food was served till 730 - we were just after 730 - they said they’d keep the kitchen open for us Ham egg and chips, my daughter lasagne and chips, 2 pints of cider £28. Slept like a log, so comfy, and within 5 mins of my getting into bed - there was snoring from the floor! He settled very well. Breakfast was 830/930, as we had the dog we had breakfast in the main bar area. Juice, cereal, full English, toast, tea or coffee. Wide selection was available we were asked if we wanted more tea / coffee / toast. Both full with what we had. Everyone was so friendly. A real family affair, I felt like we had arrived as strangers and left as friends We’re staying in the area - will def be popping back on for a drink or 2. When I took it back the landlady tried telling me "it was salad", She had it changed straight away, and I know the difference between mould and salad. The rest of my party had baguettes, which were not even buttered, so nobody was impressed. Would not visit again, but the area is fantastic as always.

Excellent place to stay. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Good accommodation, with en suit for all rooms.  Much better than I expected for the price & including a full English breakfast or parts there of. Plus, cereal, toast, tea & coffee. Produce for breakfast & evening meals are sourced locally & are very good quality. Delicious food, day or night. Food was that nice I scrapped my plan to eat around & ate in for my 4 night stay. Was a very good decision. My only regret is that I did not get to do the whole menu. You simply must try the puddings, if there's room ? Large sun trap of a beer garden laid to lawn,  at the side with benches & sun umbrellas. One step from memory up to rear beer garden from the bar,  level outside with bench tables, also tables. & chairs. Real ale on tap,. Try the "Jail". The owners were so welcoming, friendly & helpful. They made my stay relaxing & very pleasurable to match the joy of the moors. Early PS. They are looking for staff good pay, accommodation. Got that info from chatting to them. Call or email. An excellent starting point. Being central it is a lovely drive in each direction (on the only road, simple choice, left or right out of the car park) to any of the attractions. I am disabled. I use crutches & leccy scoot. All bedrooms are on the first floor,  ok for those on crutches that can manage one flight of stairs. Level ground all around outside leading to level entrance. Indoors , all of the ground floor is level, no steps. Up one flight of stairs to first floor. Once there as with the ground floor no steps, all level. Level access to lawn beer garden from car park. One step from bar to quaint rear beer garden I had a nose in the other rooms as they emptied. All en suit. Showers in all the rooms are the same standard shower cubicle size.  All en suits are the same generous size. Comparable in size to a very good sized disabled  mother & baby toilet found in large pubs (no mother & baby facilities on premises or in en suits). There is an  en suit room  with shower over bathtub. Ask for a shower seat, they have one given to them by a disabled guest for other disabled guest to use. There are good folk in the world Everything is normal person height. Mirrors,  seats ,toilets etc,  throughout the property. No disabled toilet on premises. Toilets in the bar are as good as any if you use crutches/walking stick. Ask for help as they are most accommodating. Would I visit again is the question. To right I would. Already looking for next availability. Most importantly, would I reccomend. "A resounding YES". Oh & watch out for sheep asleep or grazing ??  in the middle of the road!!. As are cows & ponies. All running wild & free. You think I'm kidding. Took me Pleasantly by surprise. They are better road trained than humans.  Exercise caution when driving as you can never tell what animals will do, or when they will appear. Have a coffee. Relax, enjoy & have fun all while soaking up the sun. Happy holidays!!

Stayed here with my family a couple of weeks ago for 1 night. Rooms are basic and clean And a good standard however we found the hospitality a little sterile. With covid-19 we opted to eat dinner outside, yet service did not come with a smile and when I asked if I could have my teapot refilled I was asked to ‘can you go to the bar yourself as I am busy’. Maybe because we were only staying one night, the staff did not make as much effort with us as with other guests. I understand that the lady running the hotel is busy, however she made us feel like we were being a lot of effort when serving us breakfast.. As other guests came down for breakfast asking how she was she would reply with things such as ‘really busy’, ‘got to do this then the laundry back at home later’ etc. Which is very honest but did make us feel like she was unhappy serving us. Overall we had a lovely time in Dartmoor and were only staying here 1 night so it wasn’t a big issue for us, however we will probably book somewhere else if we return.

The worst dining experience in a long time. It took 45 minutes to receive our food. The employees were rude and shouted at me when I inquired where our food is. When the burger (which cost more than £10) arrived it turned out to be two small and overcooked slices of burger meat in a jabata. The burger you get in your average supermarket is of a better quality. By the time we had our plates an army of tiny flies descended on the garden and eating was impossible. What a waste of time and money. AVOID.

I also do not believe they are following good COVID-19 guidelines by making everyone write their details in the book using the same pen (whether they've used hand sanitiser or not is beside the point). I feel like most people come here just because of where it is when there are much better options not too far away.

Originally I had booked accommodation for myself and horse for three nights, but when the opportunity to escape away a couple of nights earlier I jumped at it. We were welcomed warmly, shown to Mags' stable and to my room and explained the way the East Dart worked. My room was more than adequate, huge fluffy towels, comfy bed, nice hospitality tray. Lovely and warm overnight and I feel the cold!I knew that Postbridge is a bit of a trap for bad internet and mobile coverage so had packed a book or two to read on those bad weather days when horse riding is no fun. WiFi connection is a bit patchy, but I was expecting this before I arrived- strangely nice not having full access to technology.Rosie and Paul were fab throughout the whole stay checking in on how my experience was, and their children were a pleasure to meet too. The times that I met other members of staff (Julie, Glen, Jazz) I found them to be friendly and approachable, and invariably had a good sense of humour, so a thank you to all for giving me some human contact!I felt at ease as a solo traveller, and spent more time in the bar socialising than in my room of an evening. Breakfast was lush, and it was nice to see so much local meat and produce on the breakfast and pub menus. I thought that food and drink was priced well, and that the B&B was very reasonable too.Mags enjoyed her stay and rates the full five golden carrots too.

So..Where should I start..I had an "opportunity" to work and live in this hotel, for probably 2 and half months. We were been there with my girlfriend for summer job. My main reason why I wanted to go to the England, was that I thought all my childhood, that England is the most royal piece of land in this world. Well it's not exactly as I thought, (child dreams huh?) We went to the England through job agency, that asked not a little money from us to get there. But we went anyways. So we came on our own by our own flight tickets and by our own money to the Postbridge. When we step in to the East dart hotel for the first time, it had nice western like feel atmosphere. It is family hotel that is managed by two owners who are doing staff work there too. (Really, there is no staff at all). So we replaced first couple of foreigners, who worked there. This time.. it was longest 2 and half months in my entire life. First week our bosses were as honey. Living in the dream..not for long tho. They started to act ridiculous after some time, when we (trust me or not everybody does them) did a mistake. They was like crazy, started yelling on us and swearing. I was told that I acting like an idiot, because I ve been pushing too hard. But! When I didn't pushed hard enough, it was just wrong again! That was just first act of their insanity, my ex-boss started to immitate me in the meaning way that they had a fun of. Well, I don't think that is the attitude that your boss should have at all. Second part of this drama, was when my boss started to shorting my working hours, so I was payed less than I really worked! This continued next 2 months and we just been counting days to get home finally...Oh, and I forgot to mention that we wasn't the first couple of people that left from there because, how bosses been acting. Truth is, that I didn't wanted to write any review at all. But, few weeks ago our last payment came by post (still waiting for my promised NI number tho..) we was stunned about what we seen, our boss send us bill for washing a pizza plate for us..and that's not all, also bills for "screwed" meals that I prepared.... I think the fact that owners are working in their own hotel is ridiculous just by itself. But to not only be rude, as would they say...If I try to find something positive... it gave me (kind of) imagination which I needed for my career.

Thought about giving it 2 stars because food was ok but overall i couldn't. Two pints of Otter were taken back as it was about the most disgusting beer i have i ever had. They replaced them free of charge with Black Tor which was not particularly nice either. The Otter was replaced with Jail ale which was ok to be fair. We were there on a Saturday night. The landlord and landlady seemed more concerned with Strictly come Dancing (which was blaring across the pub from the TV) than anything else. Once they had our money, I think they just wanted us to leave tbh and we were more than happy to oblige. We couldn't wait to get out of there! A pub just totally devoid of atmosphere and i certainly won't be visiting again. Desperate place.

We were going to Widecombe Fair and wanted to stay nearby. This was a typical country pub with rooms which were ok for our two night stay but could perhaps do with some renovation. However, the welcome, food and general ambience were all great and meeting Shiraz (dog!) was an extra bonus. It is obviously very popular with visitors to Widecombe Fair as several of the people staying there had been before and were booking for next year.

Decided to pop in here after a wander around the moors instead of our usual stop at the Ploom in Princetown. Have driven past it a few times and this time though we would take the plunge. Was welcomed by a huge bear of a dog who was just lovely. Popped to the bar and was welcomed by the whom i assume was the land lady who was warming and pleasant. Sat down with a menu but had to order at the bar. Food arrived and whoa it was a healthy portion. We chose the pie and were glad we did. A proper hearty meaty pie! Traditional pub which could be mistaken as being a little tired but i like the homely feel it has, my type of place! Over all it was a nice visit, a different stop as we work our way through the pubs on the moor and will definitely be back!

Lot of room for improvement.Lack of pride by the owners ,they no longer love their business. It is a great shame as no competition near and walkers, campers ,local people could do with a decent pub serving good food. Please do not tell people who have had a main they cannot have a pudding as kitchen has shut.In these days of reviews online this ignorant attitude will have consequences.Either sell up or fall back in love with the place. On the positive side dog friendly and relaxed in general environment. Please improve or go.

Old place a short walk from the famous postbridge/clapper-bridge. Bar food wasn’t great. Very old fashion ( veg boiled too death) . Salad without dressing. No clue when ask about an ingredient. Hotel room was clean. Bed was like a seesaw. Breakfast was nice, fresh ingredients. It’s OK for a couple of days because where it is. Bring mosquito repellent! **UPDATE** as I can't seem to reply to the owner. I'll have to do it this way. It wasn't a waitress to start with, it was a waiter! So he was new too? He did ask in the Kitchen and told me, so I ordered. When it came it had the ingredient he told me wasn't in it. So even though he ask in the kitchen, someone still got it wrong. Anyway breakfast was great! Much more enjoyable then the bar meals and your location is perfect. Regarding the midges, well that's nature nothing to do with you, I only advised of bringing some repellent.

If I could select no stars I would. Place was an absolute shambles from the start - from the reviews I had read I decided to book a stay at this hotel and disappointed is an understatement. Went to check in at a ‘supposedly ‘ dog friendly hotel no staff to check in until a woman after waiting around for at least 20mins with a poor attitude comes over ‘ you didn’t come to the bar so you cant check in’ opens a book for us to write in our details then disappears leaving us there again until we had to go find her!... first impressions definitely didn’t fail us during our stay. Room was dirty - food was only available at certain set times - hair dryer supplied was something out of the 60’s - the list is endless. The best part was getting told they were going to call the rspca because our dog was left for 2hours max for our whole stay while we went horse riding - he was left very comfortable food, water etc -very insulting comming from a veterinarian background. We even left a night earlier to avoid!! Very disappointing to a well deserved break! Thanks

After a horrendous day of hiking and falling in a bog we stumbled into Postbridge and the pub. We were there 1140- said to open at 12 online. So we waited and waited and waited! At 1215 it opened- it seemed like an oldy-woldy pub. We ordered, dinner pint coffee- to fuel us up. The lady at the bar was lovely. She apologised for running late - we were Hppy to sit down and take our boots off.The pint went down fast - the dinner appeared and we scoffed it- followed by a coffee. We filled up our water supplies Paid our bill and were on our way. To the lady who served us - thanks! It made our day better!!!

We booked this pub restaurant for it’s closeness to where the three of us were due to complete our walk up Bellever Tor and forest. Despite the mid-summer heat, we were looking forward to our Sunday carvery. It was quite a late booking and we were surprised to find it almost empty, but happy that there was still a choice of pork and beef available and generous helpings. There was an unusual choice of vegetables, with sweet corn available, with crackling, stuffing and Yorkshire pudding regardless. All in all it was an average meal, reasonably priced and with a few desert options. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and it’s a shame there wasn’t more of an atmosphere.

After numerous times driving past, the decision was made to pop in for lunch yesterday afternoon, and a good decision it turned out to be.The kitchen was kindly kept open a little longer to accommodate our late arrival, and did not disappoint. Friendly, welcoming atmosphere.Huge baguette with proper ham, ploughman’s was tasty, and the hunters chicken was good ( if a little heavy on the cheese)To conclude, it’s a definite stop in the future for us.

Went in this place on the way home and wished we hadn't. Beer was as flat as a pancake and the bar staff didn't care. Our food was awful,, mashed potato was of the boxed variety, chips was nothing to write home about and the hunters chicken was over cooked. Lasagne was very greasy so all in all would never visit again. When complaining about everything ,we never even had a reply from the waiter. Very rude.

Odd man who started serving us and then vanished into the kitchen made it seem preparing food was a real drama. Slightly intimidating in a funny way. I wouldn’t use the word ‘welcoming’ here, if today was normal service. Food was ideal if you enjoyed Ashes to Ashes and Life on Mars. Lovely location, great dog. I guess we were just unlucky,

Four of us all ordered steaks medium rare. The first time they came out they were whisked away, wrong table apparently. When they did arrive they were well done to the point of dry. One steak was ordered with no chips and a salad, the salad was very dull. The beer was fine but the nominated driver had a Coke which was completely flat and warm. The pub dog hung around at our table throughout our meal waiting for scraps which it clearly gets from other customers.Maybe it was the distraction of the World Cup but this place is lacking in several departments and could be so much better.

My son and I had been trekking on Dartmoor and this was our third hard day. I injured my knee and toe and decided not to trek the last 12 miles to the car. We stopped in to the East Dart Hotel to have a drink and something to eat. We ordered a couple of drinks and the owner Rosie was chatting to us asking about our trip and generally being very friendly, I told her we had to cut short out trip because of my injury and asked how we could get back to the car after lunch. Rosie contacted a local taxi firm and explained I had injured my knee and needed to get back to the car, there was little or no busses. The taxi driver said he could take us in between fares but we would need to go now. Rosie was more concerned about me getting back to my car than she was about making a profit. You dont see that every day. We did not get to try the delicious food on offer but I will definitely go back. Thank you Rosie.

Late evening I was stranded a mile up the road during my JOGLE ride with a puncture and a broken pump. One phone call later and I had a room booked, dinner arranged and the loan of a pump! The icing on the cake was the chance to wash all my kit and get it dried by morning using the drying room. The landlady was brilliant, taking very good care of me as well as being very good value.
