Found this pub after a day out in Salisbury. What a find. This has to be one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had. Absolutely delicious. Hot, fresh and plenty of it 👍

Disappointing to arrive here at 4pm on a sunny Sunday afternoon, with a big sign in the entrance saying open until 5, just wanting a quick drink to be told sorry we’re closed. Seems a little pointless having published opening hours if you are going to just close early. Doubtful we will try again as stopped in at The Earl of Normanton just down the road who were open and had a lovely time.

We arrived late onroute home having been diverted off the M4 due to an accident. What a find. Manage to get in and we had Sunday roast for 7 people and treats for the dogs. The roast dinners were the best we have had and our party had the chicken, beef and lamb. The waitress called Tracy couldn't do enough for us bringing out water and treats for the dogs and 7 x superb roasts. The manager also came out to check all was OK. Then the chef came out to check bringing extra gravy and complementary cauliflower cheese dishes. Brilliant food and service from top to bottom. We regularly do the same trip and will now use this diverted route stopping for lunch on the way through. Thankyou to all at tThe Crown Inn.

Found this little gem of a pub by chance, on our way home and had to do a detor because of traffic on the M4. Found on Google maps for 7 hungry people. Didn't book just walked in and they were very busy, asked the landlord if we could sit outside and eat. It was nearing the end of there service. And accommodated us .we all had roasts and Wow it was one of the best roasts I had eaten in a long time apart from my own. And I'm fussy. Tracy the barmaid was fantastic. Brought out treats and water for the dogs. They even gave us 2 dishes of cauliflower cheese, on the house, extra gravy which was fantastic. The chef even came out to see if we were OK. We will definitely be making this our go to pub in the future when I travel to Tewkesbury. Fantastic landlord & staff. You should all be proud of yourselves.

Called in for a quick half of beer whilst passing and the landlord must of decided I had mug written on my face as he decided to charge me £3.50 for half. When I questioned it he said well there's no money in beer as we are brewery tied. Well I would suggest that if you are charging £7.00 A Pint there's quite a bit in beer at that rate. I pointed out that I had called in the day before and paid 5 pound something for a pint at which point he said he would check. Very odd. But he didnt. When I asked the bar staff on leaving how much a pint was I was told £5.90 still pretty expensive as others in this area charge around £4.50 so he clearly decided to charge me what he felt like at the time. Shame as I won't be revisiting. Ever. And recommend you don't either.

Nice location, lovely staff and timely service BUT not the best roast dinner ever. The meat was lovely and the gravy the best I've ever tasted - but the roast potatoes let it down for us. Described as 'crispy' they were really soggy and tasteless - more like sweet potatoes than savoury. They looked great but were a disappointment. Mostly good food and generous portions but not impressed with the roast potatoes!

We had never been here before and it was literally halfway point between us and family. What a find ! One of the best Sunday lunches ever. We ended up having a 3 course meal and left feeling very full and very very happy. The decor is really well done and everything clean and tidy. Loos were great too which can sometimes let pubs down but not in this case. We spent over 3 hours at the pub and can't recommend it enough. Staff were friendly and helpful but equally left us alone and didn't bother us. We had everything we needed and some. Have already arranged to go back.

Wow, loved this place. Went alone for dinner while travelling on business. I went on a very quiet night. The place is really nice and welcoming. I had a drink and some food and was made really welcome by the new bar staff. Locals came in and we had a little chat which was nice. A few others eating in the restaurant. I ate in the bar and had the pie and mash, brilliant. Food was really nice. I would visit again any time I am near.

We had the most delicious roast at The crown in Cholderton. The portions were very generous. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. All the produce was home cooked and lovely quality. No commercial straight out of a freezer, mass produced food here. The whole family loved their meal. Well worth a visit. Having eaten here many times in the past, we booked a table for our first visit since the lockdown. The pub is signed up to the Eat Out to Help Out scheme and has also benefited from fresh decoration since our last visit. Sadly the new magnolia walls and beige carpet have left a sterile feeling atmosphere. The food was certainly not up to the usual standard, with an over cooked steak, dry burger, frozen skinny fries & onion rings and over fried fish, all of which was pretty bland in taste. Needless to say, it will probably be a while before we visit again, and having eaten at another nearby pub recently would rather drive past here to eat there

I stopped at the nearby YHA with my Son (8) so decided to wander down to check the place out on our first evening. Was delighted to find out that it was family friendly, with a little slide unit outside for kids. Locals were friendly and jovial, and the staff were lovely. So all that was left was the real test..... The food. And I am happy to report that it was very nice indeed! Ended up wandering down to this place all 3 evenings that we were here.

We had dinner there during a road trip and it wasn’t great. The mushroom soup was fresh from the packet with added cream and maybe a single mushroom put through a blender. Vile and watery. The tough steak was not worth £15 but the fish and chips were very good. The vibe on a sunny summer evening was very pleasant and the staff were helpful. I’d go back but not to eat. A last minute booking the day before with no idea of what it would be like ended up making this a possible future favourite. We arrived at ‘opening time’ for food on a Sunday and noted that all but one table was reserved - so that was a good sign - indeed it was.... service was excellent - quick and friendly.... the comfort food menu included a veggie option - all was cooked beautifully and portions generous. Found this place from a stopover website. Great place if your touring and just want to stop over for one night. It’s free to camp and the pub is dog friendly. They had a beer festival going on but it seemed a bit disorganised. However the staff were very friendly. We decided to have a basic burger which I ordered at the bar, I asked the lad that served me if it came with chips and he said ‘I think so’. But when it came it was just a burger! I would have ordered chips if I’d known, however the burger was well cooked and tasty and filled a gap. Considering it’s free to camp this place is well worth a visit.

I purchased a Groupon for a 2 course meal for 4. Terms and conditions were clear that a days notice for booking had to be given. We called up the restaurant this evening and asked to book a table for 4. The staff member confirmed the table was booked....then I mentioned I had a Groupon voucher. Her reply was oh sorry we already have enough Groupon customers booked in that evening. I questioned this as there is nothing in the terms and conditions stating only a certain number of Groupon customers can book in one evening. I asked to confirm this in writing as I wanted to take this further. The manager then came on the phone laughed at me and told me to book another day. He was so rude and have never experienced such service. My advice to anyone wanting to buy a Groupon for this place....don't do it. You will end up getting a refund.

I ordered fish and chips; the fish didn't appear to be Cod, not sure what it was, but it was very thin, slimy and looked undercooked, so did not eat it, I only ate the chips & peas. My husband mentioned the fish to the bar staff when paying they apologised and took 10% off the fish & chips only, which means we stilled paid £11.25 for just the chips and peas! In my opinion the customer care was not very good at all. No, I definitely will not return and would not recommend.

She pointed to two tables and said we could have either and just gave us one menu. The starters came out in good time and by this time the bar was busy with only the one barmaid serving. After over thirty minutes she took our plates away. When I started to see other people being served their food I went to the bar and asked if we could have our main course. She said she would check and they came out after another ten minutes with no apology. The food was only warm but plentiful. My husbands sauté potatoes were soggy. We left not wanting to order desert. Good portions, shame veg (broccoli and carrot almost raw), fair wait for level of business. Not offered dessert menu or coffee. Parking and outside seating.

En route from Surrey to Somerset, this looked like a good place for lunch and a pint. "Sorry, We've run out of beer. I've told the landlord!" Said the young lady behind the bar. Bottles? Only ginger beer... Cider? Run out. So made do with a second rate lager...went well with the overpriced meal.

Passed this pub many times over years and never stopped. We did this evening for the 1st time and will certainly Stop again. We opted for the All Day Sunday Roast, which was very nice. I had the landlords platter which comprises of 4 roast meats with accompanying fresh vegetables, nice roast potatoes, on a piping hot plate. Smaller portions are available all reasonable prices. There was a bit of a wait but well worth it.

Apparently chef Jack was on duty when we visited. The fish and chips were possibly the best I’ve ever had anywhere. The fish was cooked to perfection My husband had his usual favourite which is the burger. He enjoyed his but did remark that for the money, he expected more than it to be served in a supermarket bun.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.

Very good lunch, busy but were found a table quickly. Staff we dealt with were all excellent, special thanks to Amelia who recommended the BBQ chicken with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Will be another addition to our favourite lunch spots..
