Had a dinner in the Duchy on Halloween Day with my Partner..food was lovely & fresh..Top Service & very friendly Staff who made us very welcome..Our new favourites place

Brixham was really busy when we visited and most places were booked up. So we arrived here for our anniversary meal! COD and chips and a chicken and mushroom pie and a coffee. It was actually nice food and seemed to be proper chips.

This chippy must have changed hands since last year , the food was really tasty , hot , but the service was extremely slow , we were waiting 40 mins plus , it was a takeaway as the restaurant bit was closed , so many people were waiting ,there wasn’t any food cooked like chippies normally have , I’m afraid we won’t be back

Looking for a reasonably priced fish and chip shop that still serves delicious food by the sea side is hard! But we found one!Being about £2-£3 cheaper than most fish and chip shops we were really pleased with ourselves and they didn’t disappoint!The staff were really friendly, a man a women and their son .The food was made to order so it was fresh!It was delicious! We got to this fish and chip shop evertime we visited. The food is freshly cooked to order and the staff are always wonderful and friendly. Highly recommend I hope the family stay running the chippy for years to come. Many thanks see you next trip

Visited on a busy Thursday tea time, welcoming and friendly staff .Ordered at counter 2 specials cod and chips with bread and butter plus a coffee for £7.95 each .Drinks arrived quickly followed by our food which had just come straight out of the frier hot, tasty and delicious.

Family friendly restaurant that made us feel welcome two evenings in a row.With having children with additional needs, it can be a challenge to find somewhere accommodating, and would come back here again and again due to the welcoming nature of the staff and ease.

Delicious fish and chips. Lady serving was lovely and very apologetic for the wait. Cuppa on the side was lovely too. Will definitely go back.

Visited while on holiday, big portion size, not greasy, cooked fresh, and perfect service. I'd much rather support the small independent business than the millionaires and their greedy prices. Keep doing what you're doing guys!!

We sat in to eat. The fish and chips were freshly cooked and very good. The whole place was very clean including the toilets. Staff were friendly too.

Visited with my husband and daughter today and was really impressed. We ate in and the place was spotlessly clean. Staff were friendly and welcoming, very helpful. And the food was lovely. We had fish and chips special and little one had a kids meal. It all tasted really fresh, best we have had in a long time! The curry sauce was amazing too. Will definitely return and would highly recommend if you're visiting Brixham

Friendly & good valueWalking about Brixham looked at fish & chips people were eating a few had in boxes so could see where they were from & how they looked. Saw this place on front & 2 people we watched go back to say nicest food they had eaten. We also went for medium priced fish & chips. Saw some at £9.95 and others for OAP £5.75. We paid £6.50 and was cooked fresh for us. Asked where we were sitting so they could bring over to us! Great service. We had asked for plenty of vinegar on one portion which came exactly right! Thanks so much also a lovely ice cream later on when we walked around block.

Had Haddock, cod chips and it was the greasiest fish I have had in years, batter should be natural colour nothing added to me it more golden. I go to Brixham several times a year because the fish n chips are always nice, first and last time here, wont put me off other chippies in Brixham though.

We went here for lunch in Brixham which was exceptionally busy. We were looking for somewhere to sit down and eat lunch with our dogs. The owner was very friendly and allowed us to sit at the first table.For lunch, we had a Pukka pie and chips and a baked potato with prawns. The food was well priced and was good honest food. The prawns were fresh which is always nice.The service was excellent and the restaurant clean. All the staff we interacted with were friendly. We would definitely go back.

Visited today ( 14.09.20) Lovely cod and chips, great price, half the price of the bigger restaurants, food was faultless, large portions and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The establishment was very clean. Will definitely visit again .

Cooked fresh to order, friendly service . The haddock was very good, whereas some other local fish and chip restaurants had only offered cod.

They do offer old things on the menu if your group does not like chips meals. e.g. Jacket spuds, Burgers, Chicken Nuggets. Disappointed to order fish and chips at the seaside and get a frozen fish. (Fish & Chips cost £7.95)Chips nice.They serve salt and vinegar out of a standard pots.Kids menu available - smaller portions mostly. They get a fruit shoot drink included.Order at counter and pay up front. Staff very good and take your order details and then double check your requirements. - Very friendly staff,Customer toilets available.

During the initial post lockdown, where only takeaways were available and not very many food establishments were open, I craved for some chips and curry sauce. Now, I cannot comment on the standard of fish cooked, but I was appalled to see the curry sauce being made in a jug with powder and hot water from the kettle. It was watery and tasteless - sorry - we returned it after dipping my greasy chip into it to taste. I have not returned, although I’m now hopeful that with some normality resuming, the food will be much more lovingly prepared

We visited a few times whilst in Brixham on holiday. All food cooked fresh and it was excellent. Went for a meal one night with two 15 year olds and Ice cream sundae was to die for.Really good value and not a rip off for Good, Fish and Chips highly recommend !

We came to Brixham for the day on the ferry. When we looked around for lunch we found The Golden Fish- might I just say one word: Spectacular!!We ordered a range of different food such as haddock, scampi, a beef burger and a veggie burger- all of the food was appropriately handled in a professional manner- With such friendly staff!! The food is all cooked fresh to order and served fresh out the grills! If I ever return to Brixham and want a good lunch, The Golden Fish is where I’ll go.

Came to brixham today and decided on fish and chips. This place caught our eye right on the front and the prices were very good. Ordered from the hatch and a vert friendly couple working. The haddock and chips were lovely and freshly cooked and a good portion. Hopefully the pandemic will be almost over and these family run businesses can pick themselves up. Will definitely come again

Good value for money, nice big portions of chips, lovely fresh fish to order and got to put our own salt and vinegar on which is always a bonus. Couldn’t fault it.

Since moving to the area 5 years ago my family usually go to Brixham a few times each summer and since finding this gem of a fish and chip restaurant and takeaway in the first year, we stopped going anywhere else in Brixham! A really lovely friendly family run it and do the most perfect fish and chips we have ever found, the food is cooked freshly each time and is great quality. I must also say the place is impeccably clean and we eat in or takeaway with complete confidence. On a sunny day its great to eat when sitting on one of the nearby benches overlooking the harbour! Personally too I think the Golden Fish are much better quality and value than the others including the rather corporate type places that have opened up in the town. I highly recommend The Golden Fish!!

As the title says the cod was fresh and golden the best cod and chips I've had for over 12 months. Just lovely and the staff polite and efficient thank you.

Throughly enjoyed our food at the Golden Fish yesterday lunchtime. We both had cod and chips which were reasonably priced and delicious. The manager (I assume) was friendly and spoke to us afterwards to check we had enjoyed our meal. Takeaway and eat in available (we sat inside to stop the seagulls stealing our food!) The location is great as it is situated right on Brixham harbour. Ice-cream is also served and we had a Mr Whippy as we walked around the harbour. Definitely have fish and chips from here if you're in the area!

Decided to have a day out in Brixham and of course decided to have fish and chips,thought it would be nice to be able to sit inside rather than fight off the seagulls,went into the Golden Fish to ask if we could bring our dog inside and a nice young lady showed us the tables we could use ( the first two as you go in on the left )Once seated we scanned the menu plenty of variety,we ordered the cod and chip the young waitress came to take the order,it wasn’t long in being served and as it’s all cooked fresh for you the waiting time was minimal,the food arrived and was piping hot,the whole place had a lovely atmosphere.I would also like to give credit for the lovely clean toilets.......obviously all of the staff work very hard so keep up the good work,we will be calling in again on our next visit.I would recommend this lovely place......we certainly found a gem to go and have a meal.

the indan boy was fat and the food was bad and I would avoid it at all costa it trash kid and the young Indian boy there said he would like to touch me and put me in the fryer and eat me up like some crispy fish

We have recently moved to Brixham and whilst exploring the area we popped into this fish and chip shop. We were very glad we did!! We sat in the restaurant, the food was cooked to order, friendly and pleasant staff, the whole establishment was clean. We ordered Cod & Chips, Cheesy Chips, a drink and a Curry Sauce all for £12. The portions are just right and we couldn't of been happier. Thank you to the lovely man cooking the food, your customer skills are spot on and made our visit worthwhile. We will be returning on a regular basis.

as soon as i walked into the restaurant there was an obese Indian boy with curry sauce dripping down his forehead with his shirt off lying over the table i was about to sit on.

the English of the servers is terrible and quite frankly the food is awful, I don't know how they even call it fish. Everything was watery and tasteless and of terrible quality. I would not recommend going here at all, YOU MUST AVOID!!!

Had lunch -i.e. crab sandwiches! and a cold beer. Lovely, will return to this very friendly operation of a very busy harbour pub/restaurant. VG!

Visited The Golden Fish yesterday with my daughter for the first time, we had the best battered fish we’ve ever tasted, was freshly cooked and delicious and the owners were lovely and friendly, will definitely be back next time we visit Brixham.

The fish is very crispy and delicious and is the best battered fish I’ve had and the chips are good too.

Visited Friday 24th, The service was OK from start to finish but the food was dreadful,fish was wet undercooked & batter soggy on the inside,chips were white with lots of eyes in them. Real disappointed after seeing people in the street eating fish & chips obviously not from here. If it was busy i could understand but was only about 3 tables in.

Popped in for a mid afternoon lunch/dinner. The sign outside caught my eye, Cod, chips, slice of bread and a cuppa for £6-95. I did wonder what it would be like at that price, especially as the restaurant next door was much more expensive.

This place could potentially be overlooked by its more sleek neighbour with sexy cardboard take out cartons, but pause before you Simply part with your cash.

This is a family run restaurant. Food was really good they cook to order but you don't have to wait long. Good seating space the family also run the Indian restaurant upstairs which is where the toilets are that's how we know.

What else can I say! Great fresh food, excellent value for money, the nicest, friendliest people in Brixham by far! This place is a must for takeaway fish & chips. Thank you from a very happy fellow Liverpool FC supporter....

Asked for cod a chips. the lady got a piece of fish out the freezer!! we're in brixham with a huge fish market opposite!! do me a favour!! We walked straight out. Oil smelt old too ..avoid..

IT was clean service was fine i would say it was a average fish and chip shop.toilets are upstairs.At least they serve you at the table which can be hard to find As queuing on a hot day no fun at all. Yes i would eat here again.

I have been visiting Brixham a couple of times a year for many years with my family and twin sons and we have tried every fish and chip shop in Brixham but this is by far the best.

As it was very busy in the evening we had a short wait for take away Fish and Chips, but it was definitely worth it they were lovely

Visited to have lunch during our recent visit to Brixham. We had various meal choices, which were all decidely average. My choice had to be Cod and Chips, which being in Brixham you would expect a good experience, but the fish was not that good and the chips tasted strange, like the oil was getting past its best ? Albeit the restaurant catered for a double buggy, which on a busy day is not easy, the seating was very hard and uncomfortable - a mixture of fixed and loose chairs that made it a bit like something the Krypton Factor would challenge you with :-) The prices were very competitive, which made the overall experience more palatable, but there must be better options in a seaside town such as Brixham.

Visited with my partner and both had cod and chips (£6.50 each) Food came quick and good portions. Very friendly service good value and clean establishment. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

After seeing the prices in other restaurants in Brixham have to admit I was a bit dubious at first. How wrong I was! lunch time special of cod, chips bread and butter and coffee at £6.95 was an absolute steal. The batter was the best I had ever tasted and the fish was melt in the mouth. They even cooked a sausage for the dog!! My only complaint was too many chips. A family run establishment and a very friendly one. In fact I recommended it to several people in the harbour car park to who were just arriving as my party were just leaving. It has been years since I have been to Brixham and if I return again, I know where lunch will be.

If you larger than a midget the seats are uncomfortable but perfect for those up to the age of 12. The chips are OK but the batter leaves a very nasty metallic aftertaste despite looking quite edible. I only had one mouthful of batter but it took a few hours and a bag of fudge to get rid of the taste. However my main issue is that the Cod does not appear to be Cod. I was struggling to identify it and came to the conclusion it was something like Whiting and that it had also been hanging around a few days as well. Whiting is a relation of Cod but is very poor quality by comparison. Two mouthfuls this time, more because I was trying to identify the fish. Either their supplier is ripping them off or they are knowingly selling poor quality fish in the hope the customer won't notice. This is the only fish and chips in living memory I haven't been able to eat and I've tried a lot. Could I be mistaken? Well I could but I'm qualified more than most with a degree in Fisheries from Plymouth so I know about fish. Well worth avoiding as there are plenty of other takeaways in the town.

The batter was greasy and slimy fish inside was ok, chips looked like they had been warmed up and full of hard bits, bread was stale. Batter left an awful aftertaste won't be going back WORST FISH AND CHIPS EVER!! Don't eat here you will be ill afterwards

This place serves the best chips in Brixham! I didn't try any of the other items on offer but was pleased to be able to add my own salt and vinegar.

After visiting four restaurants and another fish and chip shop and being turned away and the final 'no chips' we went to the golden fish. Very friendly reception, fresh cooked food which was excellent and fantastic service would definitely recommend and they do more than just fish and chips. One of our group had sausage and chips which were enormous portion and very tasty

The special consists of cod, chips, bread n butter, cup of tea. Certainly good value given the cod was chunky...

Had cod and chips with the obligatory mushy peas and bread and butter. Everything was cooked fresh to order and the cod was beautifully cooked with a nice light batter. Cost was very reasonable staff couldn't have been more friendly. If I had to find a niggle it would have to be the numerous 'love bites' on the neck of our teenage waitress but it didn't affect the was she did her job. Will be back for more....chips that is!

Ordered 2 portions of the fish lunch and one portion of chips with curry sauce. The chips for everyone were dry and tasteless. The curry sauce was watery and tasteless also. I couldnt eat ithe food and had to eat elsewhere. The fish was frozen.Not a good lunch experience

Thought we would give this place a try as the price was reasonable and being locals we've tried them all. It was friendly and empty .... alarm bells should be ringing as it was very busy in Brixham , anyway we ordered the special cod chips and mushy peas and had a bit of a wait but that meant it's cooked fresh. The chips were lovely as we're the peas but the fish was nearly all batter and frozen !!!. In a fishing port and serving frozen fish that's a sacrilege. The seating wasn't the best either very slippery . Wouldn't recommend.

Decided to have lunch during a recent visit to Brixham. We all had the cod and chips and one of our party also had onion rings. The seating was uncomfortable - small chairs with the kind of seat covering that your backside almost slides off! We didn't wait long for our food to be served - yes it was hot but we've had better cod and chips. I thought my fish had a bit of an odd taste to it - not off as such and I thought it may have been my taste buds. However, reading some of the other reviews before submitting my own, I'm wondering if we were served cod or whether the cooking oil was old.Yes, it was cheap but we wouldn't return here and would try somewhere else and pay a bit more.

We ended up here last night, after the camp restaurant where we're staying was overwhelmed with food orders. The kids were really hungry and this place was like shone like gold amid all the other eateries. So three large cheeseburgers and chips, one cod and chips, two curry sauces, tea, coffee and two chocolate milkshakes later, a very satisfied family went on their way. Great service, friendly staff, clean environment, decent bathroom facilities and by no means least, beautiful food. Will go again.

We decided upon this establishment form the many on offer in Brixham and to be honest we were not disappointed.We were concerned as there was only one other party eating at a 'busy' time of the day.However, we ordered pasty and chips plus tea.The service was quick, the staff were attentive and the meal overall was more than acceptable.

Went here from chips for the family. It took 20 to 25 minutes to get 4 bags of chips. The gentleman in front of me asked for a refund because his ticket on his car was due to expire. So the owner of the chip shop gets into an argument with him and also runs him down after he left. The chips were gritty and full of black bits. I went elsewhere for my ice cream afterward. Not a good service.

Friday afternoon Ordered two large cod and chips one plaice and chips ,, told we would have to wait as everything cooked to order ,, no problem with freshly cooked food it must be good ,, parted with £16.50 , 3min walk back to apartment, , opened them up mother in law looked and said glad you got me a minny fish !!! Er no , wifes just as disappointed cod ? Grey with texture of crab meat , , mine well lets say the poor little plaice hadn't had much of a lifetime , probably 5mm thick 150mm long encased in double the thickness of batter , chips not properly cooked , looking at other reviews its seems very hit and miss ,,, me personally think it was as bad as a professional could serve fresh fish next to a fishing quay ,,

Located on the quayside, just down from the Golden Hind. When we were there Brixham was very busy with the Pirate festival going on. There was a queue for the food, which you ordered and paid for, then collected at an opening, by the front entrance. We just had chips, which came in a small yellow polystyrene box. The portions were small, but the chips were ok. Nothing to shout about here. A typical seaside tourist place.

Fish was grey, chips tasteless, but the staff were lovely. Not the best Brixham chip shop but I'd rather go here than Nicks further along the road.

Very disgusted with the fish that two of our group had. Their mother use to work in a fish shop so they know their fish and the "Cod" was NOT Cod. It was grey and smelt funny, and had a horrid taste. We will not be going there again and will be telling people not to go there.It spoilt a very good day out
