Breakfast, a recent addition at the Buccaneer pub on beautiful Babbacombe Downs. Bloody lovely. A fine morning on the pub's courtyard by the gorgeous flower beds. Stunning views over the Downs and Lyme Bay. All very well until drivers who may legally park on the road, park directly in your eye line. Disrespectful and entitled. There used to be a sign asking drivers not to park and obscure said view but no longer there. Maybe it was nicked.🇬🇧🇳🇿

I enjoyed dinner with the family here. Food was tasty and good value for money. A lot of choice on the menu. Friendly service throughout.

food was okay. however service was hovering and annoying and the wait time was about an hour despite the restaurant being basically empty. staff were talking loudly across the restaurant. was overall a strange experience

We arrived too late for dinner at our hotel, so headed off to the seafront to find a local pub that was still serving food. We came across the Buccaneer and instantly loved the look of the place. As we entered we were greeted by a very cheery barman. We then asked if they were still serving food which they were til 21.00pm. Looking at the menu there was a good variety of items including burgers, steak, fish and chips amongst others. My partner orders the fish and chips and I ordered the gammon egg and chips. The food was served piping hot and a generous portion size. The fish and chips was brilliant, the batter light and crispy and chips were chunky and cooked to perfection, served with mushy peas and tarter sauce too. My gammon was insane! Perfectly cooked, it came with 2 eggs, chunky chips, mushrooms, peas and tomato. We both struggled to finish our meals but never the less we both agreed we would be back the next time we were down there. With views of the sea, and great range of different alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, I really recommend visiting The Buccaneer Inn.

Popped in for lunch good selection of food, will return again next time that we are around

Lovely spotless clean comfortable room comprising of smart tv microwave toaster kettle fridge plates cups even salt and Pepper relaxed owners nothing was to much trouble

Definitely recommend lunch here. Dog friendly, lovely view outside, and I highly recommend the bacon and brie panini. Loved the nachos with it, made a nice change from boring chips.

First time here, a quick drink before the show. The staff were friendly, the place was busy, the food looked great and was reasonably priced.

Freya had first class customer service skills and was efficient and friendly while serving Sunday lunch. What a lovely young lady. The small plate roast was good and it was our first , but not last, lunch there .

A tasty meal was had. We had been searching to eat somewhere for lunch and this was recommended on the English Riviera website as the top place. Searched the pub’s website and couldn’t see if they served food all day but headed there anyway. We were lucky and arrived at 14:50, just in time before the kitchen was closed at 15:00. We had scampi and chips and fish and chips. It was delicious and there were clean plates at the end. The batter on the fish was light and the fish was cooked perfectly, without the skin which is my preference. Definitely would recommend!

Another excellent pub meal yesterday evening, complemented with very good wines and real ales. A range of delicious tapas to start followed by pie, mash and veg with plenty of gravy and a spicy mixed bean chilli. Doggy friendly pub. Friendly crew. Although we only live just down the road we decided it would be fun to book a room for the night. A short walk to bed and waking up to those beautiful views over Lyme Bay. A spacious and clean room with a splendid enclosed balcony to enjoy those wonderful views from two comfy high chairs. See separate TripAdvisor review for the accommodation. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Came in here last week with the missus.. I've not been in here for years and fancied a pint.. So gave it a try.. Me and the missus wasn't disappointed.. We was extra happy aswel as they sold our favourite larger (Korev).. Staff was friendly too.. What more can you ask for.. Will definitely visit again soon..

Great pub, great beer and dog friendly

My girlfriend and I ordered our food 20 minutes prior to the end of service and were told by a rather unhappy looking female bartender that we'd have to have our starter with our mains as the kitchen was "closing soon" (she clearly didn't want to be there and neither I guess did the chef). Our combined starter of salt & pepper chicken wings (lovely) came out just after we'd started eating our mains of pie, chips and peas (lovely too) so a rather odd combo to eat together. The food was lovely but the service was cold and unfriendly which was a shame but possibly explains why this pub was so quiet on a Saturday evening (other pubs we visited were all busier).

Went to The Buccaneer for Christmas Day lunch, wasn’t sure what to expect as always had Christmas dinner at home. We had a lovely afternoon with family and friends. The atmosphere was really welcoming , all the staff were friendly, nothing was too much trouble. When the 3 course meal was served it was delicious. Plenty of meat, veg , gravy and all piping hot. Definitely recommend.

As a local always a pleasure. Situated on beautiful Babbacombe Downs with glorious views from the wonderful flower decked terrace and the high tables in the bar. An excellent beef baguette complemented by perfect roasties. Shipmates friendly. Doggy friendly. Reasonable prices, wines and a couple of real ales. Brought our Kiwi family guests this month. Even in the dark days of 2021 the Buccaneer was a reliable staple for dinner when we were in Torquay and despite its recent change of ownership, menu and decor, I'm glad to say that hasn't changed. Friendly bar staff and manager/owner? - fast, efficient service from the guys in the kitchen and good portions for a fair price. Can't fault this place - give it a look, you won't regret it!

This was a lovely spot to have some lunch. The service was excellent and the food was very good value. We sat outside and had wonderful views of Babbacombe. We both had baguettes which came with salad, slaw and tortilla chips. The gentleman serving us was very efficient and friendly. Definitely recommend for a lovely lunch in a lovely spot.

visited for a meal on a hot day in August. Lovely location, great views , food adequate. Would definitely return mainly due to the location and views . Didn't go inside only sat in the outside area overlooking the sea which is what was the main enjoyment of the visit .

Slow service and average food. No option for whole meal bread or baguettes only white. Very forgettable place. Outside seating would be nice if there weren’t so many smokers!

Friendly staff and nice view but the food was very very average - 100% paying for the location - frozen chips and vegetables definitely don’t recommend.

Nice size meals good price, kids meals were well priced and nice. The chilli con carne caused a lot of gas the rest of the family was not impressed but I thought it smells ok. 😂

Great place for lunch. Sat outside overlooking Babbacombe sea front - you cannot get a better view. Visited with friendx from away and they were blown away with the view, the food etc.

Visited here with my wife and 2 year old and we made to feel so welcome. Staff were brilliant and food was lovely. Check out the specials, so cheap and generous portions too. Great location and excellent views, we will definitely visit here again.

this pub used to sell good quality food especially the pies im afraid now its very poor quality .it used to be one of the best pubs in babbacombe always full but i should have realised when i went it was quite empty no atmosphere probably due to the decline in serving good food i would look at other pubs in the future

My local went recently ,had the fairground hot dog ,great, staff helpful and good .don't need to stay as live 10 min walk away.

Miserable staff .Dont order the Pub curry , nearly £14 for a microwave curry and rice ,the rice was straight out of the microwave passed off as fresh as it had some chopped coriander scattered on it,tiny portion of curry with three pieces of chicken in it accompi Ed by two,dry small pieces of rock hard Naan bread .So by buying a microwave curry,a portion of microwave bag of rice and a bit of Naan bread they made a tidy profit with the £26+ myself and my father paid .The staff need some customer relations training too

Real ales too cold. Food better than average but not outstanding. Welcoming hosts. Great views when it is not raining! Parking not close.

Stayed here june 2023 for 3 nights in the sloop holiday apartment above..with unbelievable (breathtaking) views.. the service was fantastic from all staff especially tom & Debbie nothing was to much trouble + the food was great.. thank you for such a lovely stay i will be returning soon.

Found this wee pub last year, so decided to return to it there is outdoor seating with an amazing view inside it's warm and friendly and the staff are pleasent and always helpful especially Amalie

With a beautiful setting on beautiful Babbacombe Downs. Recently refurbished exterior and spacious courtyard recently restocked with lovely summer bedding plants. Great crew serving decent wines, a couple of well kept real ales and good pub grub. Still providing those unpleasant plastic sauce sachets so I bring my own sauce. Doggy friendly. Popular with locals. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Usually the food here is great but the last couple times service has felt rushed and the food subpar :( a real shame because i love this place, its location is perfect

We used to go here a lot when Marion was the landlady. Sadly, with the new owners it’s gone downhill rapidly. The waiting times for food are horrendous, well over an hour and that was with only half the tables were being occupied. It used to be difficult to choose a meal because there were so many good choices. Now it’s difficult to choose because so many of those nice choices have been removed or altered e.g the previously lovely cheese ploughman’s now contains ham.

I have been here quite a few times over the years under the previous ownership and have always had good pub grub. On this last visit (under the new ownership) there were problems with the food, which unfortunately the staff decided to argue against us...

Called in for drinks at lunchtime, liked the look of food menu so returned at teatime for something to eat. Excellent location with stunning views from outside seating area.

We were warmly welcomed and shown a table once the rest of our party arrived our order was taken and executed quickly the drinks came very quick and the food was amazing very good quality ingredients altogether a very pleasant visit they could not have done more for us

This is a bar that serves great food and is reasonably price. This has a great location looking over babbacome downs. The staff are so polite and friendly and quick to sort out any problems. They are a dog friendly pub so can ever bring your lovely 4 legged friends In whether u walking across the downs. A very tidy pub with a mix of locals and tourists and the nicest part of it is everyone is really.friendly.

We were feeling peckish and decided to get some chips. The staff were genuinely warm and welcoming. The place was clean and warm with a friendly atmosphere. The chips were OUTSTANDING. We chose the "salt and pepper" option thinking black pepper and sea salt. However...

This has certainly gone downhill fast. When Steve and Marion Ricketts held the licence, it was a very friendly pub. Now the staff are not friendly, and the food is not the usual fare.

Went here for food and couple of drinks with friends on a Saturday evening. The pub has a good atmosphere and the staff are friendly. The food was fantastic, good portion sizes, and great value for money.

A really nice pub, no music as such, just good beer and conversation in a well run and tidy pub. Doesn't show all the sports channels. Great food so good for a meal. The Pies are amazing, with different flavour mash to choose from. You can't go wrong. Incredible location on Babbacombe Downs too, with views to die for. Dog friendly.

We always try to come here when we’re visiting Torbay. The food was as good as always. Had the chicken ham & leek pie with mash and vegetables which was delicious. Friendly service & busy with locals so get here early to get a table

Great food. The ploughman's lunch was amongst the best I've ever had (and that's quite a few). Huge portions. Beer was traditionally "warm", so not to the taste of most Australians, but I liked it. The kids meals were a bit disappointing. So maybe stick to a portion of the adults' plate and some garlic bread/chips.

We live nearby and often visit for a pint on evenings. Many seating areas to choose from; beer garden, bar-facing area, dining area and couch corner. The raspberry pavlova is a must try!
