Weak Flatwhite probably one shot, milk not Silky enough! Breakfast was on the money, nice, hot and tasty enough. Sausage was a little bland. Dodgy stainless tea pot! But that's so British!

Come for breakfast and treated at a tourist when infact local but why should this matter. The mambo breakfast was shocking. The mushroom needed the last rights read to them. The tomato had more black carbon on it than the my frying pan at home. The sausages are deep fried and over cook with being dry! All in all, a waste of 33 pound and better out there. Shocking is not the word

I had the bacon sandwich and omg it was to die for. The bacon was perfectly cooked and quick service as well.

The new management have taken this restaurant to the next level. The food was fresh, fast and piping hot. The service is very good too with friendly and helpful staff. Very good value for money. They have plans to refurbish the restaurant at the end of the season. This will be my No.1 choice when in Brixham

Great crab sarnies on choice of brown or white bread with salad. Indoor and outdoor seating. Toilets are up a narrow staircase to a narrow corridor - difficult to social distance. Lovely staff Great value

I visited this harbour front cafe restaurant whilst holidaying in Devon. Brixham Harbour front is lovely. Whilst I only opted for a ham and cheese baguette it was very nicely presented with salad garnish and photo chips.

Got my order wrong, waited an extra 15 mins for just a cheese and ham sandwich. The staff are suppose to be taking the food out to the tables but another customer took his own food out and his tripped the young waiter just stood there and watched and disnr check on the customer at all, he just walked away from the situation.

Stopped here for lunch with family and friends and our pet dog. Fish was as good as it gets, everyone in our group enjoyed the food.

Had two jacket potatoes, one hot, one not. No table service despite covid restrictions and tables seemed very close together. Not a place to visit again.

We have always been fond of this eatery but sadly we wont be going back, we have used it many times over the years with the same good food and service but this last time i was treated harshly by the lady serving at the till, i did not notice any information on Face Masks at all, many people were seated enjoying the food but no masks were worn ,i queued up and waited patiently to be served which was quite a while but eventually reached the till, have you got a mask i was asked ,no i replied ,sorry, are you exempt from wearing one ,no i replied but i have had my jabs and a negative test result last week ?, it made no difference i had to leave,i was thirsty and slightly hungry but i could see she was not going to serve me despite the fact she was wearing a mask and behind a perspex screen so was not in any danger in my mind , she should keep a few masks behind the counter for such occasions i think , so woe is me wont be going back as i was made to look very small in front of the other customers over something that could have been resolved with masks behind the counter, after i had left she allowed another customer to shield his mouth with a paper serviette i was not offered one , The customer stated he was exempt but she asked for proof ?, i dont think you have to prove it as should be down to trust and the cafe has lost mine, such a shame as we really did have some enjoyable breakfasts and teas and other meals in this comfortable place, we are polite people and will go elsewhere in future.

Looks like a nice café from the outside but we were extremely disappointed with our experience. Soup of the day looked like it was a supermarket brand microwaveable soup, I had the prawn with Marie Rose sauce baguette and it was almost tasteless, I could taste the butter better than the sauce. Also, the crisps which came with the baguette and another meal we ordered were totally stale. The scones were alright but they come from a packet and are not homemade or anything like that. Gent's toilet upstairs didn't have a lock and the seat doesn't stay up so you will have to hold it whilst you do your thing. Staff member was having her lunch break sitting very close to us so we couldn't talk about how bad the food was in front of her. The location of this restaurant is fantastic and with a bit of effort and change it has the potential to be great, on this occasion we had a bad experience.

Myself and partner spent the week in Brixham and we went to Shipmates twice. Both times were very good! We went for scones and tea which was a good price and also for smoothies. The staff are very friendly as well, especially the younger gent behind the counter!

Friendly staff, great food/drink choice, only disappointment was ordered some cream teas and for the price while does tend to match other establishments only small jar of jam and small dollop of cream compared to others where get a decent amount of each, rest of food/drinks ordered were good value

Interior is cute, nice fore quick bite. I was a little bit disappointed in burgers after reading few good reviews. Probably would pick something different next time.

we came here for breakfast on our first day in Brixham. we had a captains breakfast which was hot and enjoyable and set us up for the day.

We popped in on the off chance and how lucky were we. Lady who served us was really nice and chatty. Fast service and amazing fish and chips. They are not your run of the mill chip shop chips.... they are amazing chips

Not very busy, but slow service, burnt tea cake, hot choc made from hot water, baguette not fresh, spread not butter, poor salad. What can I say! Won’t be going back! £31.45 wasted. Please avoid!

Pretty good place for a quick bite menus are very good and food is great always seems to be busy and you don’t have to wait long for food.

Breakfast served on Cold plates so we also had Cold eggs, bacon, saute pots, beans, toms, toast.Only thing hot was sausage.They are not clearing, cleaning tables quickly enough, patrons clearing plates away ourselves so using unsanitised tables, chairs.Expensive due to location.

First rate food had a crab sandwich and it’s was perfect. Ham and cheese panini was delicious well worthwhile. Great value for money See you all next year keep up the good work

Saved our bacon, as on 2 mornings we enjoyed a large well cooked Captains breakfast. Good value for £7.50 Nice owners, clean tables and quick service. Even open on sundays !! Superstars.

Stopped for lunch while in Brixham. Both had jacket potatoes which were nice. Then had apple pie which was lovely! Quick friendly service and good value for money.

Jerk chicken panini was very short on chicken and the crab sandwich had shell in it. Very poor. Service was good and so was the tea. Would I go back? No.

Went for lunch today with my family. Advertised a gf menu on the window and wasnt disappointed. Fully clued up staff, gf only toaster marked up behind the counter and gf only fryer. Made me feel so confident that the food wouldnt be contaminated. The lady behind the counter told me her mum has coeliacs so know all about the condition. Would highly recommend anyone with coeliacs/gf intolerence to eat here. Best fish and chips Ive had in years!!!!

Stopped here for coffee. Bright, light decor and friendly staff. Although we didn't eat all the food we saw being served looked fresh, hot and appetising. Notice says orders are cooked to order. Would call in and eat there if in Brixham and try the food menu.

You will never be disappointed at Shipmates. Popped in last week for lunch I had the traditional fish and chips and my daughter had scampi. Everywhere is spotless the staff are delightful and the food piping hot delivered in less than 15 minutes from order time !!. The fish was the best I have tasted and my daughter commented that her salad garnish was beautifully fresh and varied, not just a pile of wilted leaves on the side as so often seems the case these days.We both had a drink each and the bill was just under £20 !!.The food and service and prices are better than in some top end restaurants. In short Shipmates you are AMAZING. We will be back. As this is a review I will mention that the bathrooms are upstairs so not suitable for any with severe mobility issues, however there are pavement tables and chairs at the front of Shipmates and the local loo's are very very close by. I note they also supply highchairs for toddlers.

It's a tradition every year that we come in here to have fish and chips while on our holidays. It was that time of year again and it was as tasty as ever. Lovely simple fresh food. Yummy.

Whilst out and about we wanted some breakfast and anybody who knows Brixham will know that this stunning little town has its fair share of eateries along the front. They all look pretty much the same but do not be fooled. They are not! This cafe is great. Good service, clean and good atmosphere. It’s a much for a well priced hearty breakfast.

Went in a couple of times in the week. Early morning for sausage sandwiches on our full day out. Nice lady behind the counter. Nice view of the harbour and ticket selling kiosks.

We went here twice during our long weekend and both times the service we received was second to none, the food was hot and tasty and it was lovely to sit outside and watch the world go by around the Harbour. Will definitely visit again next time we are in Brixham.

Just been to Brixham and decided to pop in here for lunch. We came here a few years back and liked the food. Ordered 3 rounds of prawn sandwiches. No issues with the food at all. The staff were friendly and the food came in good time. Would recommend for a cheap lunch anytime.

My husband and I ordered the crab sandwich and my children the cheese burger and cheese and ham toastie. The children both enjoyed their food, unfortunately my husband and I didn't. The crab sandwiches were crab paste with almost no crab meat (I did have a fair bit of shell in mine too). Very disappointed and wouldn't return.

Breakfast was cooked to perfection, a lovely cooked breakfast, enjoyed by us all. The staff were friendly and welcoming. It's right on the harbour, so in dry weather you could sit outside, unfortunately the weather wasn't kind to us today. I highly recommend the breakfast, the eggs cooked just the way they should be.

Me and my family ordered standard breakfasts today and were left bitterly disappointed with the standard of service and food on offer. At over and hours wait, my father in law's breakfast was stone cold, my order included items that we specifically asked to be removed and we were presented with the excuse of it being busy... Which although true, it was certainly not bursting and certainly something that wasn't to be expected for a holiday period. Surely common sense would prevail and extra staff could have been brought in for an expected peak period?

We were looking around for a place for a drink and found this place just off the harbour. Was coming to Brixham for a holiday. We all had a variety of drinks, mine being an amazing Honeycomb milkshake. The lady there was very friendly and gave us easy and good service. Everyone got there drinks on the counter except for me as she had to make the milkshake. Came to our table once she had brought it over. Definitely recommend if you are just looking at Brixham harbour.

Nice bright, clean, diner type café on The Quay. Cheerful, order at counter food brought to table service. Busy, tables being cleared and cleaned promptly. Nice pasty with salad and coffee, would deffo visit again

Stopped off for coffee and toast, lovely fresh toast and the butter was delicious.They bring your food to the table. This was a busy little place. You can sit outside as well. Toilets were upstairs

We visited as a family for breakfast one morning. The food was really tasty and the portion sizes were good. The kids breakfast is a decent size and my daughter ate almost all of it and she’s quite fussy. It was all well cooked and not at all greasy as you sometimes find. The staff are really lovely and helpful too.

Sat outside in the sunshine and enjoyed cappuccino and latte. Toilets upstairs to rear and were clean

We called in here for coffee when we arrived on the ferry from Torquay .

Had breakfast here before a fishing trip. It filled us up and set us off for the day. The smaller breakfast was perfect for us and was cooked well and hot. The food arrived in good time and the restaurant was clean.

The worst crab sandwich I have ever had, as a local I love Brixham crab but on this occasion I think they possibly just used crab paste no visibly white meat at all

We were visiting Brixham on the spur of the moment and had not planned the day out. So after looking at several places to eat which did not appeal, especially the price being charged for fish and chips which we used as a benchmark, we found Shipmates.

Visited this cafe restaurant in July 2018,ordered a prawn salad for two at the price of £17.90,we was really looking forward to it to have this and not fish and chips which many shops sold.well it arrived at our table a few minutes after ordering,we both looked at it and our thoughts were the same.I was going to complain but did not want to because of my partner,the bowl that contained the prawns was in the centre of the plate,was about 2.1/2 inches in diameter and 3/4 of an inch deep,I've had bigger shrimps.The salad not even dressed,the lettuce a few leaves,with about 4 slices of tomato,some cucumber,a few bits of diced pepper no coleslaw no bread and butter,I wished I had my camera to take a photo.Will not visit this place again.Very Very disappointed for the price.should have had fish and chips somewhere else.

Caught the ferry over to Brixham and looked for a fish restaurant for lunch. The menu was lacking in a varied fresh fish choice, mostly fried fish and chips. So we chose the Luxury Fish Pie with salmon, hake, cod and King prawns. Bad mistake. A small dish with a tiny pot of frozen veg. The tiny pieces of fish were sparse, over cooked and dry. There were no king prawns only 3 or 4 shrimp sized prawns. The mash topping was very cheesy and tasty but a sad lack of fish. At £8.95 each it cost almost £18 for mainly a small amount of mash. No customer service, no one asked if our meal was alright. We took our plates to the counter and complained about the lack of fish and King prawns. The waitress said is it supposed to have King prawns? We were offered a free cup of coffee which we declined and said we would prefer a refund. We were given £5 which in retrospect was still not enough still having paid £13 for mainly mash. We were told the meal was bought in and microwaved. Disgraceful. We will not be returning and would not recommend to anyone.

Watch for the seagulls who swoop down on your food if you take a table outside..one nicked my crab sandwich before I could say stop it....and seriously... do not expect any sympathy from the cafe management..you wont get a replacement sandwich...act of god..or act of seagull would be more apt.

Out with the family. Great Fish and Chips all freshly prepared. Good quality, good value and dog friendly. Defo recommend! 5 stars!

Shipmates is a very pleasant, clean and homely place. The staff are very friendly and quietly efficient. My wife had cod and chips, I had the fish pie. Both were excellent and served quickly. Views were over the harbour which added to the overall good ambiance. Certainly recommended

Had lunch here today. Ordered burger and chips. Tuna mayo jacket potato and curry on chips all very tasty. Dogs were allowed inside so thumbs up all round

Visited with my husband and children whilst on a day trip to Brixham. Got there at about 1pm and the cafe was empty. On the menu they state that they only serve breakfast items until 12pm when it is busy, but as it was empty I asked whether I could please have some cheese on toast despite it being on the breakfast part of the menu. I was told a flat no, in fact the lady said it wasn't even on the menu which clearly wasn't true.

I stayed there for a cup of tee/coffee during the cold day trip to Brixham. It is very clean place with very friendly staff. Only minus for us was there was very little space between the tables, so it was hard to move with a tray full of hot drinks and sit comfortable .

Visited Brixham and dropped into Shipmates for a drink and sandwich. The restaurant was spotless, staff really friendly and the food was excellent, definitely worth visiting if you’re in the area

caught the ferry from Torquay to Brixham harbour, plenty to walk around and after deciding not to eat in one restaurant simply because there were no toilets, we found Shipmates and were pleasantly surprised it was very welcoming the fish n chips were excellent with them being presented on a piece of newspaper lookalike on the plate a nice touch loved it

Went for lunch on a Sunday which wasn't very busy which should have been our signal to leave as it was a beautiful sunny day and other cafe's were busy.... Two of us ordered ham and cheese ploughman's.. Please it was nothing more than a deconstructed cheese and ham sandwich how you can get a ploughman's with sliced bread and butter anyone who knows about catering a ploughman's comes with crusty unsliced chunks of bread not supermarket cheap brown bread then came the pasty that was microwaved to a crisp sadly it was supposed to be a pasty then came the omelette I think I've seen thicker cigarette papers thankfully the jacket potato was not to bad but hayho can anyone ruin a spud hopefully not I can only feel sorry for the staff as they were keen and smiley but sadly without a leader at the helm this ship is well and truly shipwrecked..

We visited this establishment twice. The first visit we purchased sandwiches to tkae away and they were very good quality. The second visit we went there for breakfast and it was all cooked fresh and that was superb too.

Didn't have anything to eat here just came in for a coffee and it was really good. The staff are friendly and would certainly come here again if in the area. Thanks a lot.

We decided to have a spot of lunch and after looking around we went into Shipmates, as with many restaurants these days you have to order at the counter and then your order is served to your table, the place was clean and the waiting staff polite, we had an omelette which was served with a small salad and peas, the peas were a little hard, generally everything was ok.

Slow service , waited 40 minutes for breakfast for 3 people. We had the torture of watching family of 6 who ordered just before us eat their breakfast discuss what they were going to do for the day , leave and we still had another 10 minutes to wait. No explanation no apologies. Food was indifferent fare. Waste of time on the first day of holiday. Instead of starting the day ready to enjoy the day ended up miffed and disgruntled. I'm sure there must be better establishments in Brixham. Definitely giving this place a miss in future.

As a group we ordered ham and tuna sandwiches, bbq chicken panini's and portions of chips. Everything was very freshly made and the portions were good, especially the chips which were delicious. Good value for money and friendly staff.

Never been here before but can highly recommend. Lovely cod cooked fresh with chips which both my mum and husband thoroughly enjoyed and a very nice omelette for me. This was teamed with a lovely cup after tea. Very clean, tidy and spacious and the staff helpful and friendly. Will remember this place for our next visit.

First stop was around lunchtime after an 8 mile walk from Torquay. Two scones, with clotted cream and jam plus two coffees for £10. Very good value, pleasant staff, we even went back for a second brew in the afternoon. Would recommend.

We enjoyed our brunch this morning. It's got freshly cooked food on the plate and even had fried bread! It's five hours after eating and I'm not hungry still! To get five stars tea or coffee should come with the captain's breakfast!

Had a very nice selection of sandwiches between us, and the prices were reasonable. Table required a wipe (which we had to do ourselves) and the service was a little on the slow side.

We visited this cafe on a day out in Brixham. There are many cafes around the harbour, but this had tables inside and outside and not too cramped. The was a good view of the harbour. It had a good selection of food from the traditional fish n chips or sandwiches or omelettes or jacket potatoes. We plumped for the sandwiches as had a meal booked on the night. The sandwiches had plenty of filing with a very nice varied side salad (not the usual 3 lettuce leaves n cucumber). We will certainly be back next time we are here.

Clean and tidy with friendly and helpful staff. Food freshly cooked and very tasty.The restaurant overlooks the harbour and the replica of the Golden Hind with plenty to watch on the quayside as you eat.

Dog friendly so we decided to give it a go for breakfast. Had four very basic breakfasts, (egg, sausage, bacon, beans ,hash brown & fried bread. This with two coffee's and pot of tea for two was £26. ish.Stood ready to order for several minutes - and this is a long, long time when there are two women busying themselves elsewhere and no queue - in fact there were only a couple of the tables occupied.. Eventually there was an acknowledgement that they would be with me shortly.Only good thing about the breakfast was the rasher of back bacon (oh and the beans were OK). The eggs were barely cooked, the hash browns were dripping with grease, the fried bread was er, well, deep fried and even the dogs wouldn't eat the poor quality sausage. We ordered toast instead of fried bread for two of the meals - this arrived with a scrape of margarine in the centre of the bread.The (not hot) coffee was served, as was the pot of tea. I saved some of my coffee but needless to say it was cold by the time the food was served..It may well be that their other stuff is OK., but based on our experience I really can't recommend.

Not a planned stop but as we were driving through the area we paid it a visit. So pleased we did. Staff friendly and welcoming. Food was top quality. Price was very affordable. Not quite busy season so not a long wait to be served. Food was hit and fresh and top notch. Definitely paying another visit here in the summer and will bring the family next time.

The service was poor and the food and drinks even worse. The latte was near cold and the deluxe hot chocolate was far from deluxe!! In fact it was more like coloured hot water. Sandwich bread was dry and tasteless. Have used this restaurant on numerous occasions over the last few years but won't be returning in a hurry

The worst place I could of ever eaten at!!!The so called 'ploughman's' was a piece of cheap brown bread, cheap cheddar, and cheap thin ham! The fish and chips was greasy and well over cooked! The curry sauce was no more than a cup of water with clumps of curry power! The staff was unfriendly and un-inviting.I wish I never spent the £32 on the family meal. -small portions -cheap products -unfriendly staff-bad decoration-over cooked food! S

Had a holiday with my husband and grandsons for a week in brixham, what a beautiful place ! ? First went to shipmates for breakfast we had a captains breakfast wow it was big and really lovely, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, beans and more. We both really enjoyed it while the kids had smaller ones and they enjoyed theirs. One of my grandsons started to get fidgity and upset his only 3,anyway the nice lady who owns it I think her name was kim came over with a couple of toys and a colouring in book for the kids wbich I thought was lovely. We also went for lunch on a other day and had fish and chips it was to die for the batter was thin and the fish was gorgeous and the chips were home made chips waited a little bit longer for it but well worth it. I can honestly say it was the best I've ever had !. It was very clean and the staff were very smiley and friendly. We ate in a couple of other places as well but the shipmates was the one that we liked best.
