Family visit to Wighton. Great food and service. Great service from gemma and the team.

Hubby & I needed some good food and a rest from "reality". Things have been a bit stressful lately, so a spontanious night out was what we decided. SO very pleased we did! We were greated by a lovely lad and shown to our seats and given the menu. I had already seen online the 3 course meal deal (which I also had via email) which we both went for. The food arrived in a very timely manner, tasted absolutely amazing, and we both ended up in a food coma afterwards! hahaha ;) They were not tiny plate sizes, which we thought they may be like they are in other places. Nope, this was the perfect size. We will be back again! Hoping you'll keep the deal on for a while too, cos we both want the same again!

What a warm welcome myself and family had this afternoon. You sometimes find that chain pubs are very nice . But not the wighton we were welcomed and seated promptly. Nothing was to much trouble your staff member Gemma is an asset to your company made us feel very welcomed and nothing was to much trouble . We will be definitely visiting again . Well done team .

Had a lovely meal here today and what can I say the lady waitress, if I remember her name was Gemma was so helpful and polite and could not do enough for us. We left well fed and watered and will definitely be back when we come down to Torquay on holiday again soon. Will definitely recommend to friends. We have driven past many times but this was the first time we actually popped in for a visit. We arrived at 11.30am, had a quick drink, then stayed for lunch at 12pm. A lovely lady named Megan served us, she was very friendly and attentive, gave us advice on the menu and served us with a smile! She is definitely an asset to your business! My partner decided on a 2-course and I had a 3-course lunch from the set menu. It arrived quickly and was piping hot. The food was absolutely delicious and would highly recommend going there to everyone. There are plenty of outside seats and benches within pretty gardens and although it is fairly close to the main road, it seems surprising peaceful as you can hear the birds in the trees! Will definitely be going back, highly recommended easy going, friendly and open restaurant and bar. 5*

Had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Wighton. The roast was yummy and the waitresses Gemma & Megan were fab!

Gemma and Megan were lovely and helpfull from start to finish. We had two children with us and they came out with colouring pencils, paper and stickers. Nothing was too much trouble and they checked on us through out our meal to make sure everything was OK. Highly recommended.

Gemma, our server, was lovely - she has a warm and friendly manner. She made a good suggestion for my mum for a drink. We both enjoyed our meals.

Booked for a family meal. Ordered drinks, bottle of Sauvignon blanc was delivered to the table, it wasn’t a full bottle, the waitress removed it then brought an unopened bottle which wasn’t chilled. Waiter , Rhys’s apologised and replaced with chilled bottle. Main courses served, lamb rump pie was cold and chicken schnitzel was still frozen. Had a long wait for replacement three of our party had finished our meal by the time the replacement meals were served. Rhys was apologetic and handled the situation well. The restaurant and bar were almost empty, unusual for a Saturday evening, and we weren’t the only people complaining. It used to be a thriving, friendly local serving good food. All praise to Rhys , none of it his fault but he had to try and rectify the problems.

Pleasant and warm with good coffee and friendly,well trained staff!! Revisited April 8th and took a coffee break while waiting for my husband's hospital appointment to end ..would then collect him. While ordering coffee the advertising panel on the back of the till showed a picture of baked camembert to share encased in a bread cob and with accompanying garlic bread...looked super! I drank my lovely coffee and spoke to the waitress who recommended the camembert and said the kitchen would open soon..then my phone rang..hubbie ready to be collected and coffee only just started! I asked if they could keep my table and coffee so as to return with hubbie for half of beer and perhaps the camembert to share. The waitress said"Fine" and covered my coffee with coasters to keep it warm and alerted the other staff so it would not be cleared away..so friendly and happy to help!! We returned and ordered a pint for hubbie and camembert to share...fabulous!! So hot and tasty and more than enough for the two of us for lunch..with a delicious chutney to accompany it..only £14:50!! We shall return and really appreciate good service and tasty, reasonably priced food and drink!!

A fantastic Sunday Roast with all the trimmings

I have previously rated this place highly, as the food was greatly improved from a few years ago and atmosphere much better, with regular live music. Being very local, we would often visit as a family and with larger groups, and Yuri and the team would cater for our child with additional needs who will only eat plain pasta, as long as we booked with plenty of notice. Unfortunately, this request was refused by the new management, despite trying to book weeks in advance. So now we go to the other pub/restaurant in Shiphay, where this is no problem at all.

Our second visit here and couldn't be more happy. The food was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful, it felt so warm and welcoming. Thank you.

Mothers Day lunch with Mum. Lovely pub, great atmosphere and the food was delicious. Our servers, Megan & Gemma, were a delight and we'll definitely come back.

We were served by Megan and Gemma, both were very helpful. Very friendly, happy to have a conversation and interacting with our baby. Made me and my family feel very welcome and not rushed, especially when it was busy. Unfortunately James, the manager was quite rude when my mother in law tried to have a conversation with him however, that did not impact the food or service provided. Thank you!

We had a lovely Mother’s Day meal with a lovely experience especially from the staff. Megan and Gemma went above and beyond making sure our experience was tip top. The food was also delicious!

Went for lunch. 2 had sandwiches which had barley any filling in them and were scraped on to one slice of bread (baby ate the other bit of bread) and I had a steak. The portion was tiny for £20!!!!! Everyone's chips were cold like they were sat under the hot plate for ages. Choice of sandwiches were minimal and the bread was also toasted ... I'm not sure why!? Unless it had gone crunchy from sat under the hot plate. After a few dissapointing meals here won't be returning and will be spreading the word. Waste of good money.

Excellent place to eat, food is excellent and the staff are so polite, nothing is too much trouble, this was our 3rd time of eating there and can honestly say the best place we have been too.

We were served by Gemma and Megan and they couldn’t do enough for us. They were really friendly and helped with the kids getting them more crayons and even more gravy at one point.

Gemma greeted myself and my son with a warm and friendly vibe. My son was particularly moody but she really helped to put him in a better mood - not to mention to destress me! Under staffed, so busy, they did well but need more help. So many items unavailable on the menu plus no decaffeinated tea or coffee. Food was OK but had obviously been sat waiting to be delivered to table. Disappointed, expected more

A awesome place to visit and enjoy your meal

I went to the Wighton yesterday with my boyfriend and my grandparents and we were served by Megan. My granddad has limited mobility and Megan couldn’t have been more accommodating - without any hesitation she moved us to a table closer to the front for easy access which was really appreciated, and looked after us throughout our visit. She was super helpful with menu queries and swaps, very kind and funny, and is a credit to the team there. Megan you’re a star!!

Having visited the Wighton many many times! I know my investment with food and drink is into the hundreds of £’s plus! Vast choice menu, great food, high quality and well presented at all times. Great bar with good choice beers and wines. The layout, the ambience and the fantastic staff at all levels with Agi and Steph at the helm and especially Gemma who if you are lucky to be served by her and she is on form you’re in for a great treat! Keep up the good work at the Wighton!

Very dissapointed, 2 of us had the chicken and ham pie. The pastry was rock hard and mine had next to no filling , looked like it had been scouped out and the lid put back on. the other pie had more meat, but was still hard. Mentioned to the waitress and got an, oh. I know i should have said something more at the time but i dont like making a fuss and the place was packed. won't be going back. And I have been defending the place for years. Happy my teeth are still ok.

We came as I was visiting a friend in the area for a catch up. The man who served us at the bar was not a happy soul. I’m not sure he really wanted to be there. Took my order in a very monotone manner. No eye contact. I asked for half the meal to be removed due to her food intolerances and when I asked for a little bowl of peas instead of the salad, bacon, cheese sauce etc.. he said the computer wouldn’t let him do it so we had to pay extra for a spoonful of peas. Would they rather her have it all on the plate and simply leave it as that would surely be a waste? Very odd. When the food arrived it was ok but overpriced for what you got.

Had a really lovely anniversary meal here. The waitress was attentive and really knew what she was doing, drinks and food came out in just the right amount of time and everything was delicious. Piping hot and really fresh. We will definitely be coming back.

Had Sunday for four adults, Gemma looked after us really well. Overall the food was very good, but the veg on the roasts was a bit on the cold side. Bass and burger were amazing!!

Gemma was lovely with our children, made them feel welcome and was caring and helpful.

It was a really good experience. The food was excellent and the service was 1st class. We did miss out on the roast, but this was due to its popularity on the day. I booked online. The booking system was really easy to use, and the text notification helped when I forgot the time I had booked for. Overall, it was an excellent experience.

We love this pub / restaurant. Fabulous staff and food, and super dog friendly which is amazing, Gemma is wonderful and always has a moment to say hi to us and our doggy 🐾

I would not have even given a one star we went in today and the we waited a while for food to come out when it did it was cold no flavours in the mash or sausages green beans rock hard my partner had mixed grill if you call it that the meat was chewie and gristly the onion rings were cold and in all terrible we won't be going back there again especially as the food made me sick.

Myself and my family have been coming here for a while now because we are always greeted so warmly! All of the staff are so friendly especially Gemma and Megan who both always go the extra mile for my little boy Jacob.

Went for a family roast, waitress Gemma was brilliant with the kids and very polite and attentive. Food was alright, came out quickly and desserts were good.

First time back to The Wighton in a few years, and our party of three were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately it didn't live up to our previously excellent visits. My main course of 'roasted rump of lamb, recommended served pink, mini minted lamb pie, rosemary & garlic-roasted potatoes, honey-roasted carrots, kale, peas, green beans & mangetout, gravy' was sadly underwhelming. Three small slices of lamb, a lamb pie that I couldn't detect any mint in, limp veg and potatoes whereby again I couldn't detect the advertised flavours; all this served luke-warm. However, the dessert was in fairness, fantastic - apple and cherry crumble with hot vanilla custard. Thankfully this was served at the temperature it was supposed to be. The majority of the staff we interacted with were charming, however one young lady couldn't have been less enthusiastic if she tried. On the basis of this visit I can't say that I would recommend The Wighton, but it hasn't put me off returning again.

It was very easy to book - easy to park- clean including loos -they answered the phone (which in other establishments is a challenge to get an answer )on the day as I rang to advise we would be late as car broke down - Service was good -team attentive ,helpful ,friendly,-food was lovely and hot on arrival had lunch litebites menu -3 courses -

I would like to heap praise on the team working valentine's day at Whighton Torquay! The whole team really worked well to make sure all the customers felt welcome from entering until leaving. The food was nice and tasty, and the staff we had contact with Yuri Leah Megan were superb bubbly kind and pleasant carried out theer duties above and beyond Thank You Lee and Ali

We have ate at the Wighton many times before and the food has been perfectly cooked for a reasonable price and excellent service. Whilst the service is still great, the food is not. A new menu has been launched with a couple of changes so we were intrigued to see what new was to offer since we liked to eat here as a treat. We were majorly disappointed when our food arrived. The main food was overcooked, including the Hunter's chicken schnitzel making it tasteless and unpleasant to eat. The chips tasted like they had been sat for a while under a heating lamp and tasted/looked like low quality and bruised potatoes had been used. We ordered some sides including the garlic focaccia bread for £3.29. We were disappointed when it arrived and ended up being just two thin overcooked slices from what looked like a big garlic focaccia bread. The menu should have stated slices so you don’t assume it would be a small focaccia bread. You used to get a whole tear and share mini square loaf for a similar price and better quality/taste. The food was absolutely not worth the money, I don’t think we will be in a hurry to return. This will no longer be one of our go to places for food.

Nice service, Megan was lovely. 3 people had the chicken burger which should have come with salad but nothing, just chips. It wasn’t until we got home and checked the menu. It shouldn’t have been missed. 2 had the crumble but it was so hot & took forever to be able to eat it.

Been a few times now, each time there’s always been something missing off the menu & always had one problem with food being cooked wrong. But thought we would give it another chance. But tonight was an absolute disaster for the place, loads of items not available, food missing off our plate, food not cooked right, drinks tasted like chemicals Nowhere near enough staff for the amount of tables they had in. Unfortunately don’t think I’ll be returning.

The staff is fully dedicated to their work, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.The food is very well prepared and delicious. The service is both professional and attentive.
