The Wighton in Torbay

Really nice place to eat. Lovely, cosy feel, and good pub grub style menu. Somewhere has to be outstanding for me to dish out 5 stars, but this place certainly deserved the four stars and then some.

I don't like giving bad reviews but the food here was terrible. It was so bad I had to send my meal back and a more of our group were unhappy but just put up with it.

Popped in for lunch on a random Sunny October day as I know they have an outdoor seating area. There was a good offer running on the app which made it good value, though I did spot that they also had deals on the menu. Both staff were interested with were really welcoming and friendly. Good came fairly quickly, and was nice quality. (I had the kebabs, which were fairly spicy!). The only thing that was annoying, is that people came and sat smoking outside, right next to a family that had a baby. Obviously not the fault of the venue, there was plenty of room for them to have sat further away. Could possibly consider making only one part of the outdoor area smoking but it would be hard to police it and would still drift across anyway. We will be back again soon anyway I'm sure.

Very nice welcoming, really friendly staff. I ordered the kebab it was so moist and tasty . Hubby had the one and mash he loved it Rhys the barmen was very attentive and was so helpful Will definitely come back again.

We went out for a family meal. The booths were wonderful. We could all see each other and talk - this is more difficult at some restaurants where it is just long tables! Great menu choices and food was really good. Also plenty of it!

Newly refurbished & looks amazing. Toilets have also been refurbished to a high standard. Nice toilets reflects to a good kitchen,in my opinion. Menu was very good with a good selection of choices. The gluten free menu was good also. Would like to see fish on a special from time to time as long as it was gluten free. I had calamari for starter which was recommended by our waitress ( Amelia) exceptional lovely and tender.Prawn cocktail that my wife had was good a, a little too much lettuce. Main's . I had lasagne that was lovely ,my wife had hunters chicken that was tender & moist with plenty of bacon & cheese and the chips were really nice ,not greasy at all. Cheese cake & chocolate tort were amazing. The portion size & quality of the cooking has improved , clearly the training of kitchen staff has worked very well. We have been regulars at the Wighton for some years now , the improvements have been very impressive. All the staff were very attentive , polite & friendly. Special shout out to Amelia who was having her first night as a waitress , she did very well. Going forward to improve & give more choice for gluten free customers consider using cornflower instead of wheat based sauces & gravy's.

Lovely family meal. The Wighton is a great place to take children & always very welcoming. Great food & nice atmosphere.

18th birthday party! came 20 minutes early and had no issues as staff were very understanding and hospitable. tables/ toilets very nice and clean, service time was good and the servers were so lovely and friendly x

We booked a table for a birthday meal at the Wighton pub/ restaurant. Pleasant welcome from friendly staff. Perfect timing between courses of well cooked and prepared food. We really enjoyed our time here. Nice surprise for dessert too. Well priced and we would recommend you visit if you want good food at a reasonable price served by friendly, attentive staff.

It was my husband’s birthday and as soon as we got there, the person who greeted us wished him a happy birthday. That was lovely. We had got some 30% off mains vouchers through our letterbox, so we thought we’d try the pub for the first time. The food was amazing. We had the trio of roasts, and we couldn’t have chosen better! There food was plentiful and all of it was delicious. Also, I had the Virgin Mojito which was fresh and refreshing (so good I had 2!). The staff were attentive, but not overly so. We will definitely be back, and will recommend to everyone.

I enjoyed it. Was a very good meal, in comfortable surroundings. The food was indeed very good. Pleasant enough staff, but now nudging into being expensive. Always happy to return.

Unfortunately we were very disappointed with our meal here at the Wighton in Torquay. Almost every item on the Sunday roast was sold out by 5pm so we had to change our order multiple times. We used the 30% discount code which we thought would be great if we weren’t missing 30% of our meal (as the roast potatoes, stuffing, cracking & apple sauce was missing from the plate). The quality of the meal wasn’t great either, it seemed like frozen veg & cold meats. I am local so was looking for a nice convenient spot for a Sunday roast. The waitress offered no compensation for the lacking meals. Wouldn’t go again, disappointed.

I am very pleased with my experience at this restaurant. This is a nice place, excellent service, great food. Especially under Yuri's magnificent management. The staff is fully dedicated to their work, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.The food is very well prepared and delicious. The service is both professional and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Lovely decor. Fast service of food. Bar is a little slow and food could have been presented better. All in all was good and would visit again.

3rd time we have been here. Beautiful pub with quirky decor. I had the signature burger which is highly recommend. The service was 5* our waiter Rhys was very polite and attentive. Also very reasonable priced. We Will be returning.

We had dinner here one night in our holiday. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. It was my daughter’s birthday and they brought out a cake and sang which was lovely. There were a few of us and all the food we had was fantastic. Would definitely go again if in the area and would recommend.

Wasn’t impressed with the food had the chicken from the specials menu which was four very small pieces of compressed chicken sat on 20 new potatoes overcooked broccoli swamped with watery gravy. The side order of chips was nice though should have just had those as the main. Won’t be returning anytime soon.

The service we received was really good. We all had steak and they were cooked to perfection. Good all round service and food.

Actually a very good experience. It may have been a 5* review but deducted 30% for the 30% offer discount they didn’t honour. We had a very common and known discount voucher which was on offer but forgot to present it when paying upfront for our meal When I realised I asked a staff member who then asked whom we presumed to be the manager He politely came over and we were sure he would be understanding. But no. “Absolutely nothing I can do “. But there is. There’s no way they couldn’t credit and re-charge. They credit when things are poor. But simply they couldn’t be bothered Having returned after a long sabbatical from this place having had poor experiences before, it was disappointing they wouldn’t offer the discount clearing drawing in people. “It’s ok sir, the offer runs until the end of September “. No thanks We decided not to buy sweets which would have been more than the discount so they lost out anyhow. Shame such a petty thing spoiled our return. It was actually decent food and a nice place. Not sure we want to spend more £50/£60 evenings there if they can’t judge genuine local customers on face value.

Food was absolutely stunning, the roast was delicious.

Gemma was an absolute star and works very hard, we was a little disappointed with another staff members who took our drinks order and just walked off and we never got our drinks. it just sermed there was not enough staff concidering how busy the rsturant was, which does not make for an enjoyable visit when you kerp trying to get the attention of a staff member to either get a drink or pay the bill.

Nice and clean place with helpful staff. Unfortunately for us on this occasion it was let down by the food. I had the steak and ale pie which was nice and hot. But the mash potato was partly warm and partly cold. Which was a shame.

Fantastic food & service. Leah & Gemma were both amazing & looked after us perfectly. They also added a special birthday treat which was such a beautiful touch.

Went with our family for a large gathering of 8. The service was excellent, all the staff were smiling and tentative, the food was amazing and arrived at the same time which I appreciate is difficult for a large group, it was busy but still had a great atmosphere and was really great value. Would definitely recommend and looking forward to going again.

My partner ordered the fish goujon sandwich with a salad, the plate was swimming in water due to the lettuce being rinsed I'm assuming, the salad was just lettuce and a few sprigs of rocket, the goujons were dripping in oil which made them very greasy, the wine glass had lipstick on it, very poor

Lovely meal. They went out of their way to accommodate 6 of us. Excellent service.

Met with friends for lunch. My first visit here and was very impressed with the decor. Spacious and really well set out. We were greeted by very friendly staff. Great choice on the menu. We had the buttermilk chicken burger which came with chips and coleslaw. It was delicious. I felt guilty as I couldn't eat it all. Would certainly go back and would highly recommend.

Much better food today, have been slightly disappointed in the past but have been when the 30% off mains offer had been on. Feel they struggle to cope when it's very busy and food quality drops. Had a lovely meal last night, most staff very helpful and friendly except for one who made us feel that we were a nuisance coming in later in the evening.

After a difficult and sad morning ,saying a final goodbye to my mum at her funeral,we booked a meal at the wighton,as mum liked to go there .The food and service was excellent,we were looked after by the staff ,making sure we had a nice meal without being intrusive. Thank you .

Lovely evening here, great atmosphere as soon as we walked in the door. Good slick service and good food too. Leah was a very professional waitress - I watched her scan the tables to see if she was needed any where - very subtle, very professional. We shall definitely visit again as we're only a mile away. I forgot to use my 30% discount voucher too! I didn't want chips with my battered fish but a lovely green salad was substituted. My husband had Bass fillets - lovely!

My first time back in over 8 years and it was better than I remember. Food was really nice! Red hot coming out which obviously showed freshly cooked and not just warmed up. My only grumble and it's a small one, soft drink prices. I only noticed when I decided to get a second drink and discovered a glass of Pepsi max is £3.05! Hells bloody bells you can buy 8 cans in a shop for around that price, almost seems like they are charging alcohol prices for soft drinks. Just to add an edit after nice response from owner. Most definitely be back thats for sure and as for soft drink prices that's one of these things I guess, just need to make sure I get another pint next time instead of regular size 😀

We came here with four friends to celebrate my 77th birthday. We chose here as we had been before, they had not. No complaints about either the food or service and will come again as we live locally.

Had a lovely meal today. I really recommend the burgers! We were served by the lovely Ollie. I hope he gets a good pat on the back, he seemed very relaxed and had perfect controll of his job, making for a gentle visit. I asked for no onion chutney and they remembered not to add it, which doesn't always happen in other places. I can not fault our meal!

A delicious meal in a lovely pub

We were welcomed by the Manager who found our booking and asked us about any food allergies before being shown to our table where he explained that it was table service and informed us of the name of our waiter who would take care of us. The staff were all fabulous and the atmosphere was great. Shortly after ordering our drinks our food order was taken and our starters arrived promptly which was surprising as it was quite busy. Once we had demolished these our plates were cleared away and we were asked if we were ready for our mains. We had ordered the mixed grill and a burger with both meals being delicious but we didn't leave room for dessert although it was tempting. We used a 30% off voucher which enabled us to treat ourselves mid-week. Something we wouldn't typically be able to afford. As we live close by we will be back, and the food we ate for the price paid was very reasonable.

Our Local. We have been here countless times. Lovely pub, exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. The beer garden is perfect on a sunny day. We have Christmas Day here for the past two years and it’s always been lovely with Yuri and his team working their socks off! Thank you.

Had the Sunday roast lunch here a few weeks ago. Got to say was the tastiest roast dinner I've ever had (sorry mum!) and would definitely go again.

Been hear a couple of times and this time food was poor, family all had different meals and all said the same was very dry and basic .service staff where good as usual but food was a big letdown

Staff were friendly and helpful. Easy to open a tab. Good choice of food and non alcoholic adult drinks rather than cola or squash. Food arrived hot with good portions. My only criticism would be though the menu said sauteed potatoes they seem to be more like new potatoes

Friendly, efficient staff, good food. An enjoyable experience

We came in pretty late on Sunday evening and got great food and service at reasonable prices.

The dish wasn't our expectation at all. It says on the menu pan-fried but it came broiled. Big difference.

Always a joy to visit. Staff are welcoming and friendly. The amenities are always clean and food has always been really good value for money. It's our family meal outing go to.

I had a lovely meal at The Wighton. Pan-cooked chicken wrapped in bacon and served with a mushroom sauce. Chicken was tender and the sauce was very tasty. Service was good and food came fairly quickly. After dinner we sat outside in the garden which was lovely

Was greeted by a friendly member of staff Food was delicious especially the Hunters Chicken and the chips were absolutely delicious best we have had don’t change them!! Tartare sauce was delicious as well with the scampi. The only thing is priced need to be shown for soft drinks.

Separate gluten free menu with a few choices and great service. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful with dietary requirements.

The staff were lovely, but obviously hardened to dealing with complaints. The atmosphere was great, and we really thought we were in for a good evening. Cheap, economy supermarket own brand food would have been better. We ate what we could, but our bodies thought better of keeping it too long in our systems! The food was over microwaved slop. They really don't deserve their customers.
