As a fairly local resident I have seen the ups and downs of The Loders Arms over the past 30 years. Lunch today (moules frites) proved that this warm and welcoming local is riding the crest of the wave once again. Ok, the atmosphere should be pretty buoyant on an Easter weekend, but with food prepared by excellent chef, Matt and front of house attended by his partner Harriet and her brother Ashley, the special feeling of warm hospitality was well and truly in evidence. It’s worth booking as this fantastic pub is much in demand now. What a triumph for Loders village and West Dorset.

Followed up a recommendation from the local vicar to visit this lovely pub again. Haven't been for years as previous experience not that great (we are talking 20 years ago!) Anyway, this time it was a real treat. The pub was buzzing last Sunday lunchtime and we were pleased we had booked our table a few days before. Several family and friend groups plus us. The beef was delicious and the vegetables perfectly cooked. The landlords and their staff are really friendly and we were made to feel at home. We will return when we are next in Dorset.

I booked a traditional Sunday lunch on behalf of my friend, for her 92nd birthday. I hadn't been to The loders Arms for a few years now but wanted something special, and traditional, for this occasion - I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. The food was excellent, the atmosphere great, obviously much appreciated by the villagers. I loved the decor, the garden was obviously well tended, even in January! As an added bonus, lovely live music started at 3.30pm but I had to leave promptly for another engagement. I highly recommend this welcoming venue

I'm afraid due to the incompetence of the one bar man the evening was spoilt. we had a nice meal, nothing special as the meat in the cottage pie was a cheap cut and lacked flavour, more seasoning was needed. I ordered the meal at the bar and paid on card using the tap and pay facility, however as i found out later the barman had not checked the payment had gone through properly, this led to the proprietor challenging me about the payment in the street after paying for the drinks and leaving. We were not offered any apology just made to feel guilty? I had paid as far as I was aware,I believe it's the barman's job to check if the payment is taken correctly. We would have used the pub for drinks, for another week, obviously now I could not recommend the pub.

We visited this lovely traditional pub recently for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago whilst staying with friends who live nearby. We all had the roast beef which was tender, lean and perfectly cooked. The gravy was outstanding - I wish I’d asked them for the recipe! Delicious Yorkshire pudding, good roasties, cauliflower cheese and seasonal veg added to the perfection. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious. This was one of the best roasts I’ve ever had and I do tend to be a bit fussy! There was some mention in a recent review about dishcloth napkins. In actual fact they were a very good quality linen, much better than paper! The decor and feel of this pub is traditional and cosy which is what a good local village pub should be! The Loders has recently reopened I believe so I wish the welcoming owners much success for the future.

Upon arrival, most people there were drinking instead of eating. We came for a meal, & the host seemed busy, so we sat ourselves. The hosts did not acknowledge us in the beginning but, once we started talking to the owner of the pub, Gill, she opened right up. She was friendly, helpful & just lovely. She shared extensive knowledge of the building, the history of the pub, and the area, and even gave us a tour of the back yard buildings. By this time, we were the only ones left there so she had time to talk. Her husband/chef, Mike, came out after he finished cooking our meal to have a chat with us as well. They’re both great. As for the menu & food, the menu is short & simple. They change it regularly to adjust to the available, fresh ingredients. We LOVED our food. My daughter said her chicken goujons were the best she’s ever had, which is quite a compliment from a 10 year old. I had fish & chips, my husband had lamb (slightly overcooked but very tender & tasty). We had a very memorable experience.

I visited there as part of a walking group. We pre-ordered our lunch and then returned for lunch later. Our orders were taken cheerfully in the car park. Lunch drinks service was not very welcoming but when the food arrived it was very good indeed. I had a creamy garlicky mushrooms served in potato skins with an unusual vinegary salad and excellent chips. Very enjoyable. On the menu is chicken around the world, basically chicken breast with a variety of international sauces. Our leader had the indian version and pronounced it to be very good. The eggs on the ham ,egg and chips that several people had were a bid odd, all cooked in a big round together and a wedge of it served with ham and chips. Unusual dishes and enjoyed by most of us. The specials looked interesting and i intend to return for dinner to try them out. In summary nice food, lukewarm service

Half term, sunny day, coastal pubs fully booked for Sunday lunch............so lets try inland from the Dorset coast. Reading the good reviews we decided on the Loders pub.Only two cars in the car park............not a good sign.Enter the pub, just three people drinking and chatting at the bar, no one eating.Menu not particularly inspiring as we were really looking for something other than a roast, but we ended up choosing a roast,as that would probably be freshly cooked.Lamb was really good, vegetables uninspiring, potatoes fair.Mint sauce very watery. We were in the pub from twelve thirty to two o'clock, and there were no other takers for lunch.Reading all the reviews we wondered what has happened?Where are all the customers? Can the reviews be untrue? Is there an infectious disease in the vicinity? Can this pub survive?

What an absolute gem of a place. Eleven of us had a fantastic roast lunch here.On a beautiful, warm late October day, my request at short notice to sit outside was met with no problems and 3 tressle tables were set up before our arrival, with table cloths, place mats and cutlery laid out.It was a perfect setting, by a tree in a pretty quiet garden with a beautiful rural view. Our roast was filling with an abundance of fresh vegetables, finished by wonderful traditional English puddings like sticky toffee pudding, apple crumble and bread and butter pudding. We were gathered together as a family with some from the US to commemorate my beloved sister after a service at Bradpole Church. It was a perfect antidote and nurturing environment at an emotional time, and our meal and setting lifted our spirits no end.Our US family happily savoured a traditional village pub lunch, executed with care and attention in the best of English countryside settings. We all left full and happy and I can't recommend the environment or catering enough and will definitely come again.Thank you to the chef and team at the Loders Arms, you surpassed our hopes in every way.

We arrived at 11:50am and found a table in the lovely garden. On walking into the pub (completely empty) I had to actively ask the lady owner behind the bar when food was served, as she ignored me until then. I managed to translate her grunts into "food served from 12pm". I then asked for a menu and a high chair so she pointed to where I should go. When I found the high chair and started to take it outside she was quick to say "oh are you taking it outside?" and had to check with the man across the room whether I could or not. I took it outside, but on sitting back down at our table decided that this horrendous welcome (or unwelcome) was enough to move us on to another, better pub.

Now here's a question. Would you like a sweet crumble topping on your scallops? We took one taste and were convinced it was a mistake. So we asked the waitress to check with the chef. She came back and said 'it's crumble'. Yes, we said, but is it meant to have sugar in it? She went back again. This time we heard the chef say that it was 'lemon crumble'. But that didn't answer our question. However, the waitress looked a bit nervous at going back and asking the chef anything else, so we got up to do it ourselves. He then appeared. 'What's wrong?'. We replied that there seemed to be sugar on our scallops. So he said that crumble does have sugar on it... I said that it didn't have to - I didn't elaborate and say you can put cheese on it. I simply said it wasn't very nice. So the chef / owner said that 'most people like it' and walked off.

Such a shame since the last tennants left and this new older couple have taken over the food has declined terribly. We have visited twice now once late last year soon after they took over and last week. The first time the food and service was pretty bad, but they hadn’t long taken over and gave them the benefit of the doubt as maybe they were finding their feet. The welcome was nonexistent, the pub cold, no fires lit despite being the middle of winter. But we visited for lunch again recently hoping for a better experience but if anything it was even worse. The sandwiches were like doorstops made with stale bread and inedible, the coleslaw consisted of white cabbage and white onion, looked and tasted disgusting, the prawns what there were of them covered in a weird lemon mayonnaise and only just about edible but not pleasant. No soup was available and no apology given. We did complain about the stale bread but were told in no uncertain terms that we were mistaken and the bread was fresh that morning, which it definitely wasn’t, 5 different people all of the same opinion. No apology or refund offer given.

We stayed in the village for a few days in May and had two very good meals in the Loders Arms. Very welcoming landlady, whose husband is the chef.Good local produce, cooked perfectly. Excellent local beer.It was refreshing to have hot food that was hot and not simply warm. A good sign that all was freshly cooked and delivered to the table piping hot.Look forward to returning.

Had a very nice Sunday lunch but as it's popular would recommend booking a table. Looked at their main menu, good variety, thought that compared to the £9 for Sunday roast the other prices were a bit high but all the food we saw looked really good and we heard quite a few compliments. Disappointed to see some dishes required you to book vegetables as an extra - don't expect this in a pub. Landlady was friendly and service was good.

We had a lovely warm greeting from Marie. A lovely friendly pub with a garden and additional seating under the weeping willow! Dog and children friendly. The menu was excellent with a choice of home cooked food! We had a great Sunday roast and pint of local cider in the sunshine. (Yorkshire pud exceptional) We look forward to having The Loders Arms as our local!

Stayed in a cottage in this lovely quaint village and the pub was 100 yards away, so it was a must! Great beers and good food. Recommended.

We always go to the Loders whenever we go out for Sunday lunch because we know we will always be given a first class meal, expertly cooked by chef & co-manager, Ashley. The service is always friendly & efficient. We are ALWAYS made to feel very welcome, not only by the staff & co-manager, Marie, but also from the local patrons! Indeed, it is a lovely pub. We always feel at home there! Many thanks, Marie & Ashley, not forgetting Sammy!

The previous Sunday the place was fully booked. This week we had learned our lesson, so booked a table.Very friendly greeting, and we were soon seated with our glasses of wine. There were a number of specials on the board as well as the normal menu.We both chose specials, but shared a starter of whitebait, which was perfectly adequate. My partner had chicken with a green Thai curry, whilst I chose duck breast with pear and walnuts. Both dishes were well cooked piping hot, and beautifully presented, and very tasty. We skipped the desserts, but they looked so good that next time we will skip the starters and go for the desserts.I found the prices very reasonable for the whole lunch.Just one final point, this is not a fast food joint, so relax and enjoy the atmosphere and food.

Lovely tasty meal at Loders Arms, I had the duck breast with cherry sauce and served on a bed of roast sweet potato, delicious. My husband had the lamb on Roast Veg, also delicious, had food envy, but mine was so good too. Will be visiting again soon, most likely for Sunday lunch. Keep up the good cooking.

Following a succession of landlords, looks like this place is well back on course to being a good eating and drinking place. Two of us were booked for dinner. We'd advised that one was a vegan and told that wouldn't be a problem and it wasn't. The chef cooks from fresh and so total flexibility with menu items. The vegan dish looked lovely, well presented and tasting good. I'd made a request for a low fat, high carb dish which I got. Delicious. The landlady and staff were all lovely and very friendly and the place was busy. If booking again, would probably request a table at the far end, away from the bar. We'll be back.

Well worth a visit for a meal; wide range of starters, main meals and desserts as well as lighter lunchtime choices. Have been here twice for meals since the new owners took over and both times the food has been brilliant; fresh, tasty and yet simple (in a good way). Prices are a little more expensive than similar places but are well worth it given the quality of the food. Really friendly staff, will definitely be visiting again!

Sunday lunch was not very good. Waiter ate food and drank at the bar constantly. Emptied bins and didn't wash his hands. Chef sat at the bar in between orders. Food arrived and was tasteless, meat tough and when asked for cranberry sauce the waiter arrived with a plastic tub to serve it!

Excellent food, friendly staff, always willing to go the extra mile. This is one of the happiest places I know to have breakfast, lunch or just gorgeous cake

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support

Very friendly village pub with good quality, reasonably priced food. Delicious homemade biscuits/chocolates with coffee. Welcome dogs even when wet. Highly recommend.
