Having grown up and lived in Weymouth most of my life, The Marquis of Granby has been a regular place to go for family meals and good drinks. It was known for many years as the Swiss cottage, until the name changed in the 90s, since then it has gone from strength to strength and has changed owners many times. I honestly think the current owner should be really very proud of the Pub they now run, because having had its newest refurbishment, it has gained so much of the character I remember growing up with, and more! If you are looking for a friendly, clean well run establishment to spend an hour or two look no further! The drinks and food are great, the staff, fantastic! and the atmosphere is welcoming, fresh and modern but still manages to keep its rustic seaside charm. If you are looking for somewhere to have a family meal or spend an afternoon or evening with a good drink at a reasonable price then I highly recommend a stop at the marquis of Granby! Access and parking are no problem, it's within walking distance of Haven Littlesea holiday park, and the local number 8 chickerell bus and x53 Axminster bus route from town goes directly past it. I personally love nothing better than stopping in on a Friday afternoon when I have an early finish, to have a pint and a bite to eat an have a chat with the friendly staff and locals, or bringing the family along for a Sunday roast! Wishing the current owners all the very best for the future because they have really done Weymouth proud with how much hard work and effort they put in! Will see you all again very soon, best regards from Jason!

Hadn’t been here in ages and I used to love it because they did massive portions. Please to say since the new revamp the quality of the food is still amazing!! Food was fresh and still a very good portion size. (Pictures really don’t do justice) Will definitely be going back!! Also the new decor is beautiful! Very light and modern 🥰

2nd visit in a few months. First visit was chaos in there and my meal was disappointing, decided to give it another go. Ordered bubble and squeak which was tasteless. Small portion of mostly veg, florets of broccoli, lots of garden peas. I searched for potato but there was a distinct lack of. 2 pieces of overcooked bacon plonked on top served with an awful, runny cheese sauce, which was so obviously not home made. Sorry, won't be back.

We have been many times before the refurbishment and always had a lovely dining experience. We went last night and were not disappointed at all. Fabulous renovation externally and internally too. The service was 5 star as was the food. My wife and I had the scallops & prawn linguine which was amazing followed by ice cream which was also superb but I was so full I didn't do it justice and could only manage half of it. Having said that, thank you to all the staff who made our evening a great night out.

First time visit since refurb. We often walk past and to be honest we’re very worried for the pub as pre refurb there was hardly any punters. Since the refurb, the new bright and airy inside has transformed the place and we always see a full car park and lots of people insides. It was very busy with both drinkers and eaters. We were there as family of five and had a great meal with service as well. No complaints, great chunky chips and cheesy chips as well as cod, mac and cheese as well as a tasty burger and liver and bacon special. Will be back.

Lovely evening meal with friends. It was very busy so you need to book. They have a 2 hour time limit for the table, which we didn’t know about & spent a while chatting before ordering - the staff even said take your time when we said we weren’t ready to order. We were asked to move tables after 2 hours. It would be worth that being mentioned somewhere when booking. The food was very good, generous portions & good wine. We will be back!

We decided to go out for lunch today and chose the Marquis, because although we used to visit fairly regularly, we hadn’t been since before Covid. They have recently completely refurbished and have made a terrific job of it; the interior is light, airy and spacious. We were greeted by a very nice and friendly lady, who later turned out to be the owner (or one of them at least). As we were quite early, we had the feee run of the place and found a table for two near a window. The menu is quite short - certainly compared to its length in pre-Covid days - but comprehensive, covering all the bases you would expect, from sandwiches through baked potatoes and bigger dishes including starters. There are also daily specials on a large blackboard - which, incidentally, is just in front of the open kitchen where you can watch the chefs at work. I chose from the specials and had a BBQ Pork Steak on a bed of Beef-Broth Noodles with Pak Choi, which was utterly delicious. The generously sized steak was perfectly cooked and delightfully caramelised on the outside and the noodles were bursting with flavour. SWMBO chose the chicken burger from the regular menu, and said she enjoyed it very much. It was also a very generous portion, and since her appetite isn’t what it was, I got to finish it off for her, so I can confirm that it was very very nice indeed, with very large but perfectly crunchy chips. The service was very friendly and efficient and we will certainly be revisiting in the near future. Highly recommended.

We went on a Sunday. Just had refurb. Nice atmosphere. Six of us ordered 3 roasts one which was vegetarian. Steak n ale pie and 2 burgers. Very good value for a Sunday lunch, quite crowded. Whether that's good or bad depends on you point of view. Lots of locals and a few visitors, very convivial. Due to close v shortly for a short period of refurbishment.

Loved it here. We had Sunday roast. Carvery. Delicious. The beef was cooked to perfection. And the veg were fresh. Just a little thing was that as we went later owing to tables not available earlier, the roast potatoes were dry and hard. The cauliflower cheese had gone watery. Desert choice was good. We returned and I had shepherds pie which was accompanied by chips and peas. The other meal was a steak again cooked to perfection. The staff were very welcoming and efficient and helpful. Dissapointing carvery, first visit since take over. We called to add 2 extra placements to arrive and told no one knew about it? They did accomodate thank goodness. Parsnips hard and bland, roast potatoes dry and appeared to be a new potato crisped off, not a patch on the crispy fuffly roasties we always enjoy here. Opted for strawberry eton mess for dessert, which was plentiful but consisted of only cream and merangue apart from one strawberry sat on the edge of the glass.... had much better carvaries here.

Orderd a ploughman's lunch after reading a review by someone who had said it was the best ever. It was the worst ever for me.The plate was mainly full of salad leaves tomatoes and carrot sticks. There was a handful of crisps a tiny portion of poor quality chutney 2 very small rolls and a tinyportion of cheese.Very poor. A ploughman's as far as I am concerned should have a generous selection of various cheese, Branston pickle and crusty bread or rolls with butter not a plateful of salad. Its £15 and if you have had a ploughman's before do not order it at this pub.

Table of 4 for Sunday Carvery. The pub was reasonably busy and the food was good when we got it. The service can only be described as appalling. After being shown to our table and waiting nearly 20 mins we had to catch the eye of a waitress to take our food order. At the time there were three of them stood talking. After we had eaten once more after about 25-30 mins we had to approach the bar to ask for our table to be cleared and for the dessert menu. It arrived fairly swiftly but given the attitude of the staff we declined, paid our bill and left. The staff really could not have cared less. In conclusioj a poor dining experience.

It's fine, just fine. On the up side, the server we had was very friendly and quick to grab our drinks. A very tidy and friendly place to be in, and unlike a lot of pubs it understands the appropriate volume to have music where you can hear it but still able to have a conversation. On the other hand my food was rather bland. £23 for an 8oz steak that tasted as if it had no seasoning, and chips with little flavour is quite disappointing. Sadly the fudge cake was also just fine. Maybe I just had bad luck when it came to my order, but it was nothing special.

Following our visit to Weymouth..on our way home, decided to call into a local pub for a carvery. There was 4 of us, including one child (who is autistic) We were welcomed and accommodated immediately. 2 of us wanted a carvery and 1 adult chose from the menu a Homity pie and the child had chicken Gourjon, and swapped the chips for mash potato. As the carvery was on the servery, staff informed us when the other menu choices were being plated up, so we could eat together at the same time. Friendly staff, friendly atmosphere. Food was lovely! And very good value too. Even with our autistic child, who decided to play with his toys won (from the 2p coin drop machines in Weymouth) and play with his food, we weren't made to feel unwelcome.
