Still a great pub, beer, food, prices - what more can I say!

I have had friends in Sherborne since 1992 and most of the time, I have been coming to the Digby Tap, whenever I visited. I am not British, but it seems to be a “real pub” pub to me. It is not fancy, but the beer is good, and I guess, that the food is too, as the tables are always reserved to locals around noon. We (my travelfriend and I) have tried to introduce young people from EU-countries to the Digby Tap this time, and I think it was a succes 😊 I would highly recommend it - unless you would rather meet with other tourists…

Popped in for a swift half while our fish suppers were being prepared at The Abbey Fryer. This was a very welcoming pub, with a great selection of beverages at good prices! We'll definitely be visiting again! 😃😃

Went for a Saturday lunch: Steak and Ale pie was so popular that from the 3 that our table ordered, there was only one left! (Luckily it went to me!) and it was delicious. My friends had sausages with mash and a toaster. This is an understated country pub with great food. Ladies toilets need a bit of a redo!

Real Pub, real beer. First time back in 30 years. Love the place. Easily be my local again.

Top place for ale in Sherborne at the best price. Good lunch menu which is popular. Easy to find at the bottom of town close to the Abbey. Pool table if you fancy a game.

What a superb old fashioned pub I absolutely love going to the digby tap when we have a family get together the food is to die for and they don't skimp with the portions plus there are at least 4real ales on the go at any one time I'm gutted when I have to leave as it's such a pleasure to eat and drink in such a relaxed atmosphere i cannot recommend this pub enough if i could give 10 stars i would

What has happened to this place? Off hand bar staff and unfriendly. Didn’t seem to care about customer service. Very disappointing food. Chips tasted stale and hard. Fried onions not cooked properly with sausage ciabatta. Mound of unmelted cheese on cheese burger. Waitress again disinterested and abrupt. Won’t be returning.

Friendly atmosphere, nice home cooked food, did have an issue with one meal on one occasion but was rectified, all other visits food has been good and great value. Is very busy and popular pub so you can't always get a table. Alcohol price is beyond reasonable, glass of merlot was £3.90.

First visit here, I had lunch The food was great quick service and good portions, friendly staff.

What a great little drinking spot! It feels like walking into a time warp entering this place, harking back to a bygone era of small, quaint, honest, no frills pubs. Worthy of a visit for sure! 🍻

Surprised to find it so busy on a Monday lunchtime - best book if you want a table (and so something to eat). Took a while to be served at the bar, before which bar staff repeatedly ignored us in passing, without even saying "be with you in a minute" or even making eye contact, as if we weren't standing there! But they WERE busy, for sure. A bit of politeness wouldn't go astray though!

1st visit to the Digby Tap, won't be the last. A proper olde world pub, slab floors, nice small wooden tables and a fabulous selection of meals and quick bites for lunch( booking essential). Good value for food and drinks, lovely friendly staff. Although olde worldly very clean toilets. Undercover smoking area, but situated in a very narrow street, parking could be an issue.

Great atmosphere, cheap ale especially the Otter. Had a great evening here in a friendly environment. Perfect place for a quick half or cheeky pint when your train is delayed.

Have been here on several occasions and the beer quality and service has been excellent. There is a constantly changing beer list. Cannot comment on the food as we have not eaten here.

Lovely old fashioned boozer with a good choice of real ales and wines at a very reasonable price. Have visited a few times recently and it is always the same . The landlord seems pleasant enough but the rest of the bar staff seem quite miserable and more interested in chatting between themselves using some choice language or being engrossed in there mobile phones. The manner of the service comes across quite rude if you are not a regular local.The pub has an old school charm with the old beermats decorating the walls but I personally think the pub could do with a bit of a clean and lick of paint.

The Memsahib and I dropped in having booked for lunch on a Friday. The choice of ales were numerous and the food is good old pub grub. Unchanged for many years, please may this continue. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. If eating, booking is advised.

Rang and booked a table this morning for 1.30pm, had the lamb chops on the specials board (asked for the garlic crushed potatoes instead of mash), my husband had the liver and bacon. Food came out swiftly, absolutely superb! Thank you everyone at the Tap! Digby Tap now one of our favourite places for lunch, always a good choice on the specials board and more meals on the standard menu. Food and drinks reasonably priced and good friendly service from the staff.

A very busy pub, standing room only, but that proves how good it is. If you want the traditional pub experience, including friendly faces, welcoming bar staff ,wooden benches , dogs and a great pint plus a game of pool or darts this is definitely the place to be. Absolutely loved it .

We were a group of 10 on a visit to Sherborne. Booking was easy and accommodating. The food selection and prices were incredible and all our dishes were perfect. Staff were lovely and service great We will be back. Can't reccomend more highly.

Lovely old style pub that seemed busy with locals. Had excellent choice of real ales on pump, all kept well, my wife also enjoyed the gin! Bar staff very friendly and efficient.

Excellent meal at a sensible price, I phoned to see if we needed to book for lunch today, advised it would be wise to reserve a table which was kindly done for us. I had the rack of lamb and my husband the chicken pie. The rack of lamb is the best meal I have had eating out for a very long time. Lovely selection of desserts but we couldn’t manage one after our main course. Many thanks for a lovely meal at a sensible price, drinks also reasonably priced, we will be coming again

The Tap is synonymous with the Sherborne crowd for being 'the place' to go. Hidden in one of the smaller roads, its got the best staff and an entertaining collection of beer mats and draught toppers.

Popped in the Digby Tap for lunch today, pretty busy yet luckily found a table at the back. Very popular with the locals - the food and ale prices confirm why. Plenty of tables reserved so book ahead to avoid disappointment. Had a great homemade steak pie - meat was succulent with plenty of gravy - lovely! Staff are friendly and helpful. Smashing good old fashioned pub that always delivers!

A little unspoilt gem of a pub, just the way I like them. Interesting choice of well kept cask ale which changed from Friday to Saturday - a good sign, I think. Lovely old school ambiance and friendly, welcoming staff. Not many left like this. We had been looking forward to visiting while in Sherborne and it didn’t disappoint.

Could not fault this lovely pub. Welcoming staff, food was great quality and such a reasonable price too. Will definitely be back. Come to Sherborne often but never tried this lovely place before. Highly recommend it.

The Digby Tap is a step back in time. It serves unpretentious food at very reasonable prices. The staff are first class in every way. The ambience is that of a proper pub.

Visited on a weekend visit to Sherborne. We had a quick drink and left swiftly as there are no Coronavirus control measures in place. Nowhere to leave contact details, patrons drinking at the bar and no social distancing anywhere. It was pretty crowded and the football was on. It seems like a nice community pub, but we couldn’t stay as it was getting busier and no one (staff or customers) seemed to care about the pandemic.

No airs and graces just lovely people serving great beer and really good prices: like going back in time.

This place has hardly changed since I first visited in 1961. It was a "drinking" pub and, I am pleased to say , still is however in recent years there has been added a more extensive lunch menu and a Sunday lunch on the first Sunday in the month. The quality of the food is superb and value for money for drink and food is second to none. I am proud to say I still attend. Long may it continue going from strength to strength..

Beautifully atmospheric. Fascinating history. Tucked away in a back street near the Abbey. Coming here feels just like 50 years ago. Paint and furnishings little changed. Food basic, fresh veg, and tasty, but pretty oily by today’s standards. Amazing prices (e.g small rump steak chips etc £6.00!)The service is brisk, cheerful and efficient, a real working local.Reminded friends of an Irish countryside pubs of their childhood!

Met up with an old work colleague who recommended we went here. He is a very good judge. The food is jolly good, well cooked, from a comprehensive menu, well presented and the best value I have had in ages.The pub is small inside. As it is tucked away down a side street this contributes to a cozy old world charm. This has been a real find. A proper traditional English pub.

I have used this pub, on & off for many years, the staff have always been fantastically friendly. The beer is beyond reproach, only the best, and at a great price. The menu gets better every month, l try to eat here, but it is very crowded and can’t always get a seat. Oli the owner is a Chelsea fan, so you know everything will be first class. Thank you for existing Tap, you are much loved !

This place always has a a good atmosphere. No TV's or loud music just the hum of conversation. Great selection of beers and pub grub served by friendly staff; it is also one of the least expensive pubs in Sherborne.

Let us get the bad news over, since I visited 4 years ago the cost of the meals has gone up from £5:50, to £6.00. The good news - still the best liver and bacon with mash, onion gravy and mushy peas to be had anywhere. I took 15 friends as part of a day’s outing. We had the standard menu available to us from the web and phoned them at 1045 to get a very comprehensive list of the day specials. Ordering 15 separate dishes, some with special requirements, was tricky but they coped with it and delivered it perfectly when we arrived at 1:30. It is a wonderful old pub serving unpretentious serving food that is well cooked and well served food at exceptional prices with the best beer selection in town (did I mention all15 were beer connoisseurs and all were delighted). The staff could not have been more pleasant or helpful

A lovely train journey takes you within a 10 minute walk of a truly traditional pub. Great selection of ales, a menu that puts most places to shame, lovely staff and really sensible prices. A great compliment to a great town.

Just how a pub should be, no frills just a great vibe. Excellent selection of beer, real ale, good food and nice staff. Good location in Sherborne, tucked away but if you want good beer you won’t be disappointed. Nothing posh here, We like that the furniture is quirky and functional it all adds to the lovely atmosphere. A good old fashioned drinking establishment, it does get busy but then it’s a great place and the prices are good it’s certainly it expensive. Not many places like this around these days, we love it.

Called in for lunch with visiting American friends. We were all delighted with the ambience, range of beers and delicious, reasonably priced food. And ... all the staff are cheerful, friendly and helpful. No wonder it was busy!

First time here, a proper pub! £2.80 for a pint too, served with a smile. Great atmosphere too, even for a school night. Only one problem, only had one ale, so will definitely have to come back to test some more ales.

Proper old school pub, bar staff were welcoming, packed at 6 on a Friday. Bitter was between £2.20 and £2.80 ish per pint (May 2019). Been here a few times and always good, haven't tried food.

The Tap is THE pub in Sherborne, whether you want to sink a glass of good wine or beer, or one of the incredible lunches. The locals regard it as their local, and visitors will appreciate the muzac free ambience and the tasteful photos of the acting fraternity on the walls. Not to be missed!

We came here for lunch and our first mistake was not to book as the place was packed.The beer was excellent and the whole place was very friendly and we soon engaged in conversation with some lovely people.We ordered food which was cheap and good value but unfortunately we were served after a party of walkers so we had to wait nearly an hour.Still the conversation was good and the food when it arrived filling.I will definitely go again but will make sure I book.

Dropped into the Digby after a morning’s shoot. This place is how a pub should be; no noisy fruit machines, no blaring jukebox, just damn good ale and conversation. Long may it remain exactly the same.

The Digby is a very old style pub food lunch only but don't eat there if you are not hungry the plates are full and fantastic value

This cracking pub is the go-to place for meeting with friends. The beer is well-kept and low priced. They also do excellent lunchtime meals at low prices. This pub has been a friendly centre for generations, and is decorated with photos of the many film personnel who have filmed in this lovely historic town.

The Digby Tap is an unpretentious local pub, with a great atmosphere. The beer is very well kept, and an amazingly reasonable price. They serve delicious food, again at an amazing price. Lots of character, and a super pub.

Digby tap is a splendid old world type of pub. very popular ad the food which is available at lunchtimes is excellent quality and value.

If you want a drink in Sherborne- this is where the locals go. £2.50 a pint for proper beer, proper staff and a proper clientel. Worth the trip down from London- the nearest pub to the station too

Visiting Sherborne Abbey with my lady friend we met a very friendly & helpful "guide" in the Abbey - Malcom.

It's scruffy, it's busy, it's got character, it's a proper pub and it sells local real ales and cider with a very adequate menu. Why get ripped off elsewhere when The Digby Tap can offer so much for so little.

Real beer, good snooker, great atmosphere, good food, nice crowd, no pretensions, always a welcome. Lovely pub.

To start off, this pub is definitely not terrible. It’s a charmingly local freehouse that offers a great social environment and very cheap booze. I can’t help but feel the place is lacking somewhat though. It’s a bit grubby and such a characterful old pub could be decked out in a much more sympathetic fashion. The selection of beers on offer isn’t great either Otter, Badger and some of the other local breweries really are pretty terrible in context of the modern British brewing scene. It’s 2018 now and there is no excuse as a landlord to be ignorant of the changing face of U.K. beer. As a freehouse they have the perfect platform to serve some wonderful craft ales alongside the more traditional fayre. Who am I kidding though? You can get drunk with £20! Go there! Go now!

This place never fails to deliver. A great selection of ales on tap, good honest pub grub at lunchtime and nothing comes close to breaking the bank. Always busy - a must for any weekend visit to Sherborne.

Every town should have a pub like the Digby Tap. Great selection of well kept beers, quirky interior and well patronised by friendly locals. If all pubs were lit this more would be staying open.

Went to the Digby tap on Saturday for a couple of drinks a really good welcome, and good service the Ales are really kept well. Would recommend this pub slightly off the tourist route but worth it. Will be back

This is what I enjoy about British pubs: the best ones anyway of which the Digby Tap is certainly one. You are made to feel welcome; you can usually start a conversation with some previously unknown person at the bar ( either side) or you can sit and read your paper without interruption while the dog snores under the table; the beer is kept perfectly; the food (lunchtimes only) is very good and very good value. No noisy sound system or gambling machines. Of course being a free house allows the landlord to charge reasonable prices for beer and food and run the Digby Tap how he likes - which he does extremely well. Long may it live!

Small but friendly pub with excellent real ale. A bit rough round the edges but how a real pub should be. Didn't eat there as we called in the evening.

Sherborne has lots of different pubs to visit but Digby tap is my favourite.
