Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.

We have frequented the restaurant many times in the 24 years living in Devon, the meals we have had all been lovely and fresh. That is until today, I had the Roast Beef it was tough and chewy, the whole meal was luke warm even though they put gravy on part of it, the roast potatoes were the worst I have ever seen, they had definately not been cooked this morning. I cook and I know , so when the chap came to the table to clear , I said of my dissapointment to be told that he had eaten this morning the same potatoes and knew there were fresh, insulted my intelligence. He did apologise when shown one of the potatoes. I do not blame him he is not the cook. A table in front us had a roast beef dinner brought out, ot was fresh meat covered in gravy and roast potatoes were definitely cooked today. We shall however, go back to Exmouth Kings, because this would not have happened there.

Often pop into the Garden centre on our way home from shopping in Sidmouth. The advantage is that there are loads of tables and you can even sit outside if there is just a hint of sun as the outside space is a sun trap. We had coffee and on my latest visit an Eccles Cake, absolutely delicious.

The chains and tablets had not been moved to be distanced the back of my wife’s chair was touching the chair behind. Other than masks it looked like COVID-19 was not going to impact on Kings garden centre. Totally irresponsible would suggest you avoid until the management wake up.

We came for lunch on the day we were moving having packed up our kitchen. We were starving and had heard great things about the cafe. I was ravenous and chose a trifle from the chiller and a sandwich with a side of chips. The trifle arrived and it was clear that it was a few days old. The cream was hard, the custard congealed and the jelly laced with fruit cake !! I all for recycling food but not with aged fruit cake. It was bland and inedible. My sandwich arrived and my granary bread was stale. The filling was generous, yet sadly much of the sandwich was again inedible because of the stale bread. My husband's and daughter's sandwiches were on softer white bread and had a good amount of filling. My daughter like me also left her trifle. Under normal circumstances I would have returned both of my items and got them changed however we had to get back to our house to finish moving. For 3 sandwiches, 2 trifles and 3 hot drinks and a side of chips it came to over £40. Not good value and sadly I wouldn't recommend the restaurant.

Dropped by on 3 separate occasions during our recent holiday to Sidmouth, twice for breakfast, and once for afternoon tea. All the food we had was delicious and of good quality. I had a breakfast roll, a full English and an afternoon cream tea over our 3 visits. Even better was that they were in the Eat Out To Help Out scheme, so it was all half price! We just wished they stayed open in the evenings (they close at 5.00pm) as would have loved to try some of their other hot meals.

Looking forward to having Breakfast this morning so went here as lunch is always good ,how wrong was I. Arrived at11-08 & told if I wanted tea or coffee I would now have to pay as it was after 11 o'clock, what a cheek as Breakfast cost £8-49 quite dear compared to most places, anyway I was asked if I would like toast or fried bread so settled for toast. Breakfast arrived Sausage was so tough skinned you couldn't eat it,mushrooms were tinned, bacon very salty, Egg was not fresh more white than yolk, beans were nice, where was my toast Not on a side plate but under my egg & mushrooms all soggy, so I was left with 2 butter pats & no toast. Maybe we will go back, as they have lovely Cakes, but certainly no Breakfast.

The food choices are limited, just 6 mains plus breakfast options. We had Lasagne, Steak and Mushroom Pie and Turkey and Ham pie which were all nice, but plates were small. Unfortunately the chips were frozen ones. Access is awkward for anyone, let alone disabled or with limited mobility. The problem is everybody has to go through the service counter to get to the tables and there is a half height wall funneling everyone through. This makes for difficulty of viewing the specials which are laid out along the wall on the way in. A board outside would be a better option, better still get rid of the half height wall. A bit on the pricey side for this type of restaurant locally.

Called in approaching lunch time and decided to have lunch in the restaurant whilst there. Big mistake!!! Although the restaurant itself is very smart and presentable and the staff reasonably friendly(especially the waitress with a couple of icepacks tucked into her clothes to try and stay cool given the very hot weather) I'm afraid the food was well short of the mark. The shepherds pie was acceptable but the roast potatoes and veg. looked and tasted like it had been there for days! The jam roly poly and custard was horrible. The custard lumpy and the roly poly all pudding with little jam! My partner had the quiche and salad. The quiche and pastry were very stodgy and the coleslaw and potato salad was swimming in mayonnaise. I understand all of the Wyevale stores are for sale - lets hope any buyer for this one sorts out the restaurant. He will need to before we return!!!

As garden centre restaurants go, this one is good. Nice range of food items from lunches, tea, coffees, cakes etc, all very appetising. As we didn't want lunch but just tea and cake, we opted for Afternoon Tea for Two @£14. The three plate stacker was superb. What could be better? Our pot of tea and water went cold too quickly and the first milk jug was cream lined on the inside - needed good clean! Nice to see freely accessible water and jugs/beakers in the restaurant. However, as this is our second visit following a previous good experience, we have no hesitation in recommending.

Sunday 1st October, 13.30 lunch. 2 small roast beef at £7.55 each and 1 veg curry. The small roast beef was not plated in front of us but served to us later tableside. To our amazement the small roast beef was served on a 7" square tea plate, normally used for scones, cakes etc. The full size roast beef only a £1 more was served on a traditional round plate as normal. Upon querying why they were using such a small plate for a hot roast meal I was informed this was standard practice as the management were unable to get any bigger plates. This of course is totally not true, they had used this small plate to make it appear that you were getting good value for your money- this certainly didn't work with us and I can only say that the portion, though was very good quality, was very mean and unsatisfactory. This was not a square deal. Be aware do not ask for small portion sizes, it amounts to sharp practice.

However, after venturing back a couple of weeks ago for a 'trial', we were absolutely delighted to find the breakfast has improved dramatically, and the staff are a lovely mix of young and slightly less young... all friendly and with smiles! I know we are not the easiest of customers as we like our breakfasts very hot, eggs runny etc and also our toast at the end to ensure a hot slice! This restaurant has an attractive setting and makes the most use of the area available without leaving diners feeling too close to the adjoining tables. The service is quick and the food attractively presented. There is a good range of dishes to suit all tastes and reasonably priced. The staff are pleasant and the manageress is attentive to diners and is very 'hands on' during busy periods. This restaurant has always been busy when we have eaten there, but everything runs smoothly, my only negative comment would be a minor one in that the upper level area tables are not cleared as quickly as would be desirable, as the next sitting of diners have to sit with dirty dishes in front of them; whilst the lower level seems to be cleared more regularly. However, the rest of the service and overall impression is one of a high standard of service and ambience for this style of food outlet which is definitely of a superior quality.

I used to have a prawn jacket potato and a scone. This time I had a handful of prawns in a hard potato and a tiny tub of clotted cream. I understand cutting back on portion sizes but please reflect that in the price. It appears from the staff inside that it's been taken over by new management. I don't think I saw a staff member over 17 years of age this week. Either way. I'm no longer a huge fan and don't think I will bother to return. Previously the que would be out of the door.... this week there was no que......I don't know if that speaks volumes...I used to recommend this place to others, and used to tell people about the great pictures they had for sale on the wall as I waited to be served.... these are no longer here and the walls are bare.

At our visit at 10.45 the place was deserted so I selected a table which had been cleared but unfortunately had not been wiped to remove dribbles and crumbs. The table next to that was the same and also the one after that. Our last visit a few weeks ago was exactly the same where I watched a young person clear the tables but not once did he wipe them. I had to ask him to do so. The same today but this time a more mature lady was clearing tables but didn't wipe the them. I hate sitting at a table where the previous occupant has left traces of their food. This would never have been allowed to happen when Carolyn was manager. Popped in for lunch, I had Bubble and Squeak with poached eggs and bacon and my father had steak and kidney pie - both were delicious! Friendly staff made us feel very welcome on a rainy day!

We popped in for tea, coffee, cake and sandwhich. I was offered the last portion of brown bread for my prawn sandwhich and would I like sauce on that? " Yes please to both" My husband had a chocolate coated flapjack and coffee." With cold milk please" When the order arrived I had been given white bread, when I questioned this I was told they had given the brown bread to another customer! My husband was given hot milk. The "sauce" on my prawns was ordinary mayo, I had expected cocktail sauce. The tea was very weak, they did put in an extra tea bag to help, so I suppose that's a plus point. The quality of the prawns, tea and the chocolate coating was all very poor. The bread was the lowest quality I've ever tasted. I felt we had been cheated, £5:99 for such a poor quality sandwhich---we'll never go there again.

We were welcomed with a cheery hello when we entered the garden centre and did not even notice that it is now part of the Wyvale chain until asked for our loyalty card. The staff in the restaurant were as lovely as ever and served us promptly with quality food. Pleasant customer atmosphere and we exchanged a short conversation with the three elderly ladies at the table next to us regarding our holiday plans for the week. The tables around us were cleared and cleaned quickly and although a busy lunch time the staff were still smiling. Once again this garden centre did not disappoint. We purchased a number of items on sale and were served at the checkout by a pleasant young man. Other reviews seem to think that this garden centre is no longer worth a visit because of the Wyvale connection but we did not notice any difference. Still worth a visit in my opinion!

The only problem we had here was what slice of cake to have, there was such an array to choose from. In the end settled for a strawberry, cream sponge roll type thing, yum.The staff were friendly and helpful, and the serving and seating areas were very clean.Enjoyed our visit, will certainly be back.

The same lovely staff now struggling under the corporate standardisation of the mighty Wyvale ...., too busy collecting customer information through cards and vouchers to give that customer focused warm experience ....no longer worth a visit

Stopped for tea and cake. Service good and soundings pleasant. Lovely view too. However my wife's tea was terrible and her Danish pastry was very soggy. I had coffee which was OK and cake which again was OK.

Excellent range of cakes and pies with cream, ice cream or custard. A little cold in the winter and coffee just okay. Lots of people there and good gift shop.

I've only ever been in here once before. Service was quick and a great selection of food on the boards . But when the food came out it was a little disappointing. My son had the sausage and mash and the sausages were quick dry and flavourless . I had turkey chasseur and the turkey was quick dry and there were only about three possibly four bits of turkey in it as it was mainly sauce . My sons girlfriend had jacket spud with prawns and she said it was lovely , and it also looked very nice . So think we will stick to spuds next time . I was going to have sweet potato and spring onion flan but when I saw it it looked more full of pastry than sweet potato so I passed on that and had the Turkey Chasseur instead . It is a lovely garden centre to visit with plenty of parking and food is usually excellent and very hot but on this occasion maybe because we were eating later it was not so hot !!

Visited this garden centre with a friend to look for Christmas presents and plants. The garden staff are very friendly and helpful. We decided to have a coffee in the restaurant. I had an Americano which quite frankly was poor quality - rather tasteless. The food did not very exciting - I would have bought a scone but they didn't look very fresh. After tasting the coffee I was glad I didn't bother with the scone! Disappointing. Maybe they will improve...!

A very nice little garden centre and restaurant. Such a shame it has been taken over by Wyevale. Just hope the will not introduce the standard Wyevale menu.

Good homestyle cooking but it gets a bit crowded at times! Garden centre is great setting. There is a wide selection of cakes including sponges, flans, roulades, fruit. The hot food is behind counter so can be seen. You can also have toast. Decaf tea and coffee available. Wander round garden centre too.

There is indoor and outdoor seating (subject to the weather). Dogs are allowed in the outdoor eating area. The centre itself has recently been taken over by Wyevale nurseries and already things are changing. There is no one to meet you at the door outside anymore with brollies at the ready if it is raining. The restaurant itself has not changed as such but the menu is limited and the staff were not as friendly as usual. Nowhere near as busy as usual. Next year the restaurant will be taken over by Wyevale as well or so we were told. I am not in a rush to go back but will give it a try next year once it has gone over to Wyevale.

So we decided to stop off here for some lunch... Not quite what we were expecting. Slow service and not a lot of choice.. We both went for a bacon, Brie and cranberry panini which was ok but served with a salad which quite frankly wasn't fit to eat. Over all I think more pleasant staff and more swift service would make this place better

My family and I have been here a number of times (as there is something to suit everyone) but our most recent was earlier this week. The service is polite and friendly and alternatives are accommodated wherever possible. I had the crab cakes which were really nice. They were served with salad and new potatoes and were very reasonably priced at £7.99. The desserts also always look gorgeous (& home made) but I'm always too full to try them! I'm sure we will return again.

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

My wife and I have various food allergies, so it was so good to be told that they can adapt the meals to meet our needs. And they did, GF, veg instead of potatoes, you name it, it was done. The food itself was excellent, all four of us had brilliant meals. Well worth a visit

Staying in the local area we decided to meet up with other family members for an evening meal and catch-up. Knowing this pub does food from Wednesday through to Sunday lunchtime decided this would be a good place to visit. We booked and arrived just on opening time and was met with a very welcoming greeting by the bar person. Once we placed our order, in a very short space of time the starter course arrived, and on completion of this and table cleared, again the main meals arrived well presented and hot. The pricing was well within most budgets and with the specials board there is a good variety to choose from concidering the size of the village. Definitely on future visits this is a place on the list for food.
