Just had a family lunch of 11 of us. The service was impeccable, the variety of food on offer was sufficient and different from usual pub fayre with very tasty curries. Biryani was full of flavour, with good vegetarian and children's options. Trad Sunday lunch excellent with fresh veg. The staff were so friendly and attentive on what was a very busy day. Decor and cleanliness tip top. A real pleasure, we were looked after very well from start to finish. Prices reasonable too, although the desserts may need to be rebalanced between cost and quantity. A lovely lunch for all. Thank you. Steve + 10

Very impressed, we had a table in a side room to ourselves, attentive service, good food large portions and nothing was too much trouble. Was not expecting the Indian food on the menu, but it was very good. Lovely views as well. Watch out though, it's right off a very busy road

Popped in for a pre dinner drink and starter. Sat on the terrace which had lovely views and staff were friendly. It wasn't busy and we just ordered a Bombay mix, one starter and 3 soft drinks. Expected the Bombay mix to arrive with drinks, 30 minutes later we asked for an update and were told 5 mins ..and offered some water as we had finished our drinks. Ten mins later a small pot of crumbly Bombay mix arrived from behind the bar, followed by a very average fatty prawn starter - £25! Waitresses were apologetic and friendly but terribly slow service.

This pub changed hands at the beginning of this month and is much improved. Good service. Some of the prices are still high, nearly £25 for steak and chips, and nearly £20 for a curry. But what w e had was good. The chicken biryani at £15 was very nice with lots of chicken and accompanying raita and curry sauce. It just needed some vegetables incorporated in there. The spaghetti carbonara at £13.50 was ok, but not outstanding. The lovely terrace has fab views over to Wales and is partly undercover.

Went out for food on a Friday night and honestly this was the worst food I have ever ate at a restaurant. I’m aware they are now an Indian restaurant however of the very few regular items on the menu, I had the dirty fries and calarmi while my friend had the chicken burger. The chips were dry and overcooked with about a pound of cheese and bacon bits on top and the fried calamari was rock hard and chewy so also overcooked with the strangest presentation I’ve ever seen. My friends chicken burger *unconfirmed* but almost definitely a birdseye chicken burger put in the oven for 10 mins. The waiters were nice enough but the service wasn’t great. Nobody asked how the food was, if they did I most certainly would have told them how bad it was but they probably didn’t because our faces and the full plates when asking for the bill said it all so we just sucked it up, paid the bill and left. its a shame because the food was great when they were a pizza house and I’m sure the Indian food is fine but I definitely not be eating there again and I would not recommend it to anyone.

This pub has always been like a home from home for is. Was very pleased to see a new menu which included homemade curries. Was looking forward to trying proper Indian home cooking. When we arrived around 1pm the pub was unusually bereft of people and it was so cold in there I to keep my coat on. The new menu is extensive and the prices have gone up. There are a lot of add on's which should really be included anyway, such as £2.50 for naan bread which would normally be included as part of the meal, especially as they were charging £12.50 for a small portion of curry and rice. The 2 curries we tried were weird, the spices tasted harsh and bitter. I left most of mine as it was so unpleasant. They were not freshly made and had been heated in a microwave. I could tell as the rice was fused together. Very disappointing and overpriced. The chickpea bar snack at £3.50 was actually lentils not chickpeas, same as you would have in a packet of Bombay mix. I didn't like the trays left for tips on the bar, the experience didn't warrant a tip. I felt they were taking the mickey and trying to get as much money for as little as possible.

My wife and I just wanted a run of the mill pub which served food so we decided upon this one. Having read the reviews I was a bit sceptical however looking at the menu and prices I thought it fitted the bill of being cheap and cheerful. When we arrived we order a normal pint of beer and one of their summer cocktails, the barman did not know how to make the simple cocktail which was just vodka peach schnapps and cranberry juice! There was then a debate with the two bar staff as he started to make the cocktail the vodka ran out and between them they could not decide if they had put the correct amount in the glass, probably simpler to have had a glass of wine! We ordered the seafood sharing plater as a starter and when this arrived I would say it was deep-fried to death, all the food was a mahogany brown and the dip that was given the plater was roughly 2 teaspoons of tartar sauce not even enough for 1! As we finished the starter the waitress cleared the table and then with one minute our main course arrived which was 2 burgers. The plate were hot as I assume for the speed it had arrived they had been in the oven, they had also placed coleslaw on the hot plates which had started to wilt! Having said that the burger itself was very nice but by then I had enough of deep fried food so did not eat the chips or onion rings. Would I visit again - yes probably but only to eat a burger. Left feeling quite nauseas of the thought of the deep frying.

Chips and I can only assume the night before mess still around. Which meant bugs and flies. I ordered a menu staple. Salmon with hollandaise sauce. It arrives. No sauce. Sorry we've ran out. Do you want mayonnaise instead says it all. Nothing home cooked. All delivered ready made for heating or frying. A decent chef could have made the sauce from simple ingredients. Booked a table for 7 people and a high chair for a reasonable time of 6pm. Arrived and seated to a table of 6 without a high chair. This was quickly rectified. Ordered meals at the bar and waited for food to arrive. Two steak meals arrived with no sign of the remaining 6 meals after around 5 minutes we questioned this with bar staff who went to the kitchen to find out where the rest of the order was. Another 5 minutes past and our order has arrived, only to discover we are missing items. We raised this again, where they went back to the kitchen shortly followed by the undercooked missing items. An apology was offered by the staff whilst walking away from the table, nothing more. Not really one to complain, but staff didn't really seem bothered that their service isn't to a basic standard. Having worked in the industry, it's not difficult to have meals produced in a timely fashion for a table of 8 people. For a chain pub, it's not exactly got a 'friendly, welcoming atmosphere' with a second to none service. Perhaps something you need t invest in rather than having the owner sat drinking profits in the establishment. I wouldn't bother with this 'pub' if I were you.

My family & I have been many times before but this time it was truly awful. When we arrived the staff were to busy talking about what they had been up to the night before to speak to us! We picked a table as we hadn't booked which is when it went down hill.. we ordered 4 roast dinners with extra potatoes and piglets in blankets. There must have been a handful of tables in at this time so when food came out you would have expected it to be suitably hot, however this was not the case. The food was warm at best, piggys in blankets were cremated, Yorkshire pudding as flat as a pancake, veg still raw and the roast potatoes burnt black on one side an nearly cooked on the other, this as well as the lack of care an attention from the waitresses was a massive let down . We spoke to the manager who was lovely and did apologise for the poor service and standard of food. Needless to say we did not stay to eat what was brought out from the kitchen, but got up an and drove to another venue to enjoy our family Sunday lunch! I dont like writing bad reviews but this needs a mention. We were a party of 6 lunching out for a birthday. Menu gave a good selection so we tried to order at the bar. First order was for a surf and turf, taken; next for a steak "sorry, no steaks"; next included cheesy chips "sorry, run out of cheese"; ok, try sweet potato fries "sorry, not got those either", ok plain chips. Ordered drinks "sorry, run out of lemons". Late thought - if you have no steaks, how come you took the surf and turf order? Panic run to kitchen "sorry, cant do that one".When served, one dish had no chips (the one where we originally wanted cheesy). 3 of us has burgers (as no steaks) - the burgers themselves tasted fine, but accompanied by just a single thin slice of tomato and a couple of strands of onion in a bare bun, a very sparing serving of chips and no coleslaw as advertised. Spoke to the waiter "Sorry, ran out of chips", "sorry, ran out of coleslaw". So in total they had run out of chips, steaks, cheese, lemons, coleslaw & sweet potato fries.Even the fish, a substitute, was partly dried up and eventually abandoned. Now the manager did, after we pointed it out, apologise for lack of coleslaw and got some from her own fridge, but overall they just served and left. We had to query every omission and there was no attempt to offer a substitute. Everyone can make mistakes and run out, but trying to ignore the situation just annoys the customer. And, just as a hint, theres a supermarket down the road that stocks everything - a quick dash would have replenished stock and kept us happy.A staff member did ask us if we were happy with our food and, a rare occurance, I said I was not. He scurried away and was not seen again. So much for customer care and feedback. We decided to skip sweets and coffee, as if they had run out of anything it would have really topped the day. When we left there was a notice on the door saying that due to unforeseen circumstances they had stopped serving food. So why didnt they be honest and tell us what their problem was? We'll probably try here again sometime as previous visits have been ok, but both staff and management need to urgently review how they relate to their customers.

Although not what you would call our local. We've been to the white horse a few times now. Mostly due to the good selection of dishes and excellent value for money. The relaxed atmosphere makes it a great place to visit. Especially in the summer months when you can enjoy the rear garden and its great views accross the severn valley. The garden is also equiped with a secure play area so you can keep an eye on the tiddlers while you sample the local ale or a glass of vino.Wheelchairs are also well catered for.The service here is really good. They even provide comfort blankets to take the edge off those summer, and winter chills. This visit was for my sons 18th, and again we chose the white horse because of the affordability and variety. When your pulling 21 people together for a birthday meal you have to consider everyones budget and pallet. Not easy, but it worked out really well. The horse did good. The staff couldnt have been more helpfull and efficient. And genuinely seemed pleased to help. The food was delivered on time, no mess ups and with a smile. I cant praise them enough.I would recommend you give the white horse a try.My ratingFood 4/5Service 5.5/5Atmosphere 5/5Value for money 4/5Cost for 20 adults £231. Food only incl starters. What would make it 5/5 ? Perhaps one or two more dishes on the 2 for 1 menu.

I have lived in Thornbury for years and been to the White Horse. Tonight I just did not know if I should risk the steak so asked the barman for hid recommedation, he said the steak was lovely and my god he wasn't wrong, it was bloody lovely, my knife slide through it, and very TASTY. My husband had the BBQ burger and he said that was delicious. So desserts....ok something has to go wrong right? Buy one get one free, again bloody lovely. I recently had my work Christmas meal which was three times the price and it was rubbish, white Hart has great staff and friendly atmosphere..,We will be back and well done to Ali the chef I believe, it is a breath of fresh air to see someone who takes pride in their cooking and presentation......

I've not been to The White Horse for years, but my friend lives down the road from it so we went for a meal there last night. It was great, really lovely food, but the best thing was how lovely the staff were. All very friendly, polite and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, the landlady Claire even sat in on a few rounds of guess the celebrity with my friend's daughter just to make the teams even. I would thoroughly recommend this pub.

Went there on a Saturday night and was surprised how empty the place was. Once the bar staff decided to serve us we took our seats wondering why the place was so empty. The food was ordered and was very nice, the waitress was also attentive however the bar staff left a lot to be disired and did put a bit of a dampener on the evening. The pub did wake up around 8 and the atmosphere improved somewhat. All in all the food and service was fine and once the pub started to fill up it turned into a pleasant evening.

It is my usual calling in place but this time it was a let down ,Outside parking is limited and on split level as is inside the pub so it can present a few problems for wheelchairs or buggies ,the bar sports a good rang of wines spirits ales and ciders ,however this weekend the bar staff were struggling to cope and the wait was considerable as they struggled to cope , The place is always clean and tidy and there is outside seating but there was children running unchecked through the fire escapes and then banging on the windows to be let in not good .The meal was a letdown i ordered a Sunday lunch and it turned up on time however the beef was over cooked and a large piece of grisole was uneatable the roast potatoes over cooked the cabbage portion very small and under cooked ,the yorkshire pudding was leathery and flat all in all i was very disappointed as it was not there usual standard

Visited the White HOrse for a mid week meal with friends. The menu was comprehensive including a two meals for £10. It was exceptionally good value for money. The service was efficient and friendly and the desserts were lovely - I had the salted caramel cheesecake with peanut butter ice cream, it was scrumptious and value for money at £3.99.

Having been let down, at the last minute, by another venue we decided to eat here. We had visited earlier in the year, so were returning customers. Once again our welcome was friendly and we were quickly shown to our table. We ordered two Sunday Lunches and a steak for our grandson. Service was timely and the waiting staff friendly - returning to ask if everything was satisfactory. Food was wholesome and portions more than adequate. The two Sunday lunches included dessert - we had apple crumble, which was very tasty. Overall good value for money.

Popped in on a whim one evening midweek. We were greeted by a very friendly lady behind the bar who whilst taking our drink order enquired if we were also dining there that evening. We said we were and asked if there were any 'specials' in that evening. She said that although she thought they had already sold out she would enquired in the kitchen and she came back with an offer of mushroom and cranberry Wellington. Sounded good to us!! We were not disappointed and they even came out to let us know that as they were being cooked from fresh would taken a little time and asked if this would be OK!!Our meal was lovely, very unusual but would definitely have it again!Would definitely recommend going there and we certainly will do!

Visited this pub with a number of my close family and friends on a Friday evening. After about an hour we noticed our food was taking a while to arrive, one of my friends then walked up to the bar to enquire about how long our food would be, this was a big mistake as she was told we should expect the wait as it's a Friday evening, if this was shocking enough the chefs kitchen was playing very loud music which was very off putting when eating our food. The food took an hour and a half to arrive at our table and when it did arrive it was nothing special. Will not be returning.

We visited this restaurant on a community bus trip despite the recent poor reviews which I think must either be of a different restaurant to this one or a dramatic change has taken place. On arrival we were greeted by one of the staff who like all the staff were very friendly & helpful. The staff were first class they were helpful, polite, & knowledgeable, The food was plentiful, well cooked, well presented & hot. The restaurant was clean, tidy & attractive. Drinks were reasonably priced & well kept. Service was quick especially as there were 24 of us in addition to other people, looking forward to my next visit.,

Used to be a great place to eat but has gone downhill fast. Ordered food at bar at the same time as our drinks sorted out the table number and handed over credit card. Place was quite quiet, I know why now, and patiently waited for food. After 30 minutes of waiting still nothing so we hung on for another 10 minutes and noticed two couples who came in after us had their meals delivered to their table. So we went to ask where our meals were. The barman asked who served us so we said "you" at which point he went quiet and then blurted out that he didn't think we ordered anything. We replied that we had set up a tab, he took our table number and our order. Nothing just a blank look. No apology of any real sort. No offer to make up for the long wait and no offer to take the order again! I would avoid this place as they have no idea of whats going on and customer servcei is a joke, would give no stars if possible.

Had the misfortune to visit this place on Sunday 4th September. We were left on our own to push tables and chairs around so all eight of us could sit together. The bar was staffed by one person making coffee for a customer, after getting drinks we decided on our food order......Sunday roast had ran out ( at 6.30 on a SUNDAY evening). Prawn Cocktail had ran out. Admittedly the menu does not mention home cooked food or that it will taste like the cardboard box it came from, a little seasoning wouldn't go amiss. There was a little bit of atmosphere but that was coming from the kitchen where the majority of staff seemed to congregate. On the plus side the beer wasn't bad and the car park was quite big. We would have done better getting food from the kebab van down the road.

Visited this pub with a group of friends as it was recommended to us, however I definitely won't be returning. We ordered our food at 7:45pm and after 9:00pm we were still waiting for our food. Myself and one other went up to the bar and was approached by this very unfriendly and rude women. We asked politely where our food was as we had been waiting an hour and a half at this point. Her response was that we should expect a delay as it was a very busy night however by this time there were only a few tables left in the pub. I would also like to mention how unprofessional and unwelcoming it is for there to be loud music playing in the kitchen while the staff sing and shout while people are trying to enjoy their meal. Food was average, won't be coming here ever again.

We booked a table of 8 for a meal on Sunday evening. Whilst the food and drink was at a good standard, it took ages to arrive even though very quiet, and dirty plates were left infront of us for quite a while. We sat by the bar, which unfortunately was in close proximity to the kitchen, where we could see mops and brushes from our seats. There was no music on in the pub, all we could hear was a little kitchen radio blaring away with the kitchen staff shouting along with it. Staff were aware of this after a comment, but nothing was done to solve the problem. Perhaps they should invest in a kitchen door or tell the kitchen staff to shut up and be more considerate? In addition to this, I am an experienced brownie eater and they are meant to come out warm, but mine was frozen solid :( It was a shame because we visited a month ago and the service and food was great!

Great food and lovely well maintained pub, however the local drink driving after work crew only have to give the bar staff a wink and will get served in front of the people who have been waiting patiently in a well formed queue to give there order for food and drink. This happened on not one occasion but three times in total to my party of four on 12-08-16. When the manager Claire was approached she said " well they are locals !!!). The previous manager Mandy did have a well organised pub and would never have allowed this to happen we travel or should I say did travel over 45 miles round trip to this pub but not any more.

I'm a regular visitor to The White Horse now that they have a dog friendly area inside. Food is good honest pub grub with lots of choice, a 2 for £10 menu, and regular special offers (2 for 1 on a Monday; 2 for 1 puddings on a Thursday etc). But I go there because of being dog friendly - always get my repeat business as a reward. The dog friendly area is tucked away, so shouldnt bother any other customers. Its not fine dining, but being a Brain's pub chain, you kinda know you'll get a decent plate of food.

Arrived with car club group of 12+ having requested our usual once a month table. "No Table ready and Food will be at least 45 mins"(That means at least 60 mins)Asked for bottle of Sauvignon Blanc....reply ."would that be the Red or White?"Requested an ice bucket (it was 35c outside) reply "Yes you can have bucket but there is no ice!!!"Ordered favourite beer....reply "that's off."Opened a couple of windows to have some air at our table...was harangued by some Harpy (The MIss Manager ?) for having insulted an ageing biker who was sitting outside by said window. I had only asked him in a joking manner to move the many uncollected glasses that would otherwise have ended up all over his shiny leathers. When I tried to explain to "Rosa Klebb" what I done I was accused of insulting her, the biker and her child......(cf James Bond)I think she was most likely expelled from "Charm school" The saving grace was I had not already ordered off the menu so was able to leave richer and wiser. Will never darken that door again and nor will the rest of the group who had already ordered and paid, unfortunately for them. As far as I know that may still be waiting for their grub.

Take a punt on the Grumpy Griffin. It might be your lucky day but then again you might regret it. A mixed set of results from customers. Mine was negative. No real ale. Only a few peeps on Sunday mid-afternoon and one was drunk as a Lord and seemingly spoiling for trouble. Background music was fine. Quality tv showing a premiership game. Just cider, lager and Guinness on tap. Feels like a local pub where others are not made welcome.

I’ve been here multiple times now and I must say every time I go it gets worse.. my visit today being the worst which is disappointing as it was my nephews birthday so expected better! It appears there is a lack of staff which is the biggest issue.. although it’s never particularly busy there is always a lack of staff; 1 person on carvery and 2 (at most) on bar service causing long wait times and queues. On this occasion the food was the most disappointing as the food tasted like it had been out all day. The roast potatoes were so dry and hard that it was hard to even cut through them. The meat seemed dry and undercooked. They ran out of pigs in blankets and brought these to the table after we had finished our meals.. The gravy seemed watery, and the staff seemed overworked, although I must say they did do the best they could do under the circumstances and the servers were so friendly and polite. On this occasion I wish I ordered something different than the carvery as the carvery was just not worth the money and was overall dry, tasteless and not enjoyable. I wouldn’t come back here in a hurry.
