Really nice country pub, very unassuming from the exterior. Very good pub classic menu, plenty of hearty dishes. Nice ale and beer selection. Staff were superb, attentive but not fussy, and very friendly. Relaxed atmosphere.

Lovely Christmas lunch with my family. Excellent Christmas Menu, three of our party are vegetarians and the very much enjoyed their Quinoa and Nut roast with all the trimmings including vegetarian pigs in blankets, a first for my brother in law! The turkey breast was also excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient, special thanks to Elaine who sorted out my initial ordering mistake!

Been there twice and both experiences have been excellent. We booked before coming as not wanting to go anywhere else. I had a pumpkin soup, which was expertly spiced. The pork belly was absolutely amazing. Nothing bad to say about anything while there.

Christmas gatherings seem to come early in December for groups such as us. This gathering, in the pub’s snug, was no exception; with 15 (mostly former) Rotarians plus partners, here on 3rd December. We were, as usual, indebted to the ex-Rotarian organiser who had made the booking here, and collated orders for starters, main plats and desserts. Our meals had to be ordered in advance, and we were obliged to pay a group deposit of £10 per head (I thought this was entirely ‘in order’). I started with the ‘Pork and Duck Terrine’, with Spiced Pear Compote, house pickles, and crostini. This was superb; very tasty and delicate. It would have been even better had the slice of crostini had been a tad larger; there was hardly enough to accompany the terrine. My Partner had decided not to start. My Partner ‘went traditional’ with her main plat: ‘Roast Breast of Turkey’, with Cranberry and Chestnut Stuffing, and traditional trimmings. She likes turkey; and as I do not, we never have turkey at home. So, this plat was a chance for her to indulge. I decided on the ‘Pan Seared Duck Breast’, with Confit (slow-cooked) Duck Leg, Rosemary Dauphinoise Potatoes, Braised Chicory, Tenderstem Broccoli, and red wine jus. Sadly, somebody dropped-the-ball here: as there were four in our party that ordered this plat, but only three duck plats arrived from the kitchen. I had to wait for my plat to arrive, but I was sufficiently sanguine and quietly drank my wine. When it did arrive I thought the portion looked a bit mean; but it was enough and it was very tasty; it reminded me of how much I like ‘to duck’. To complete our meals my Partner chose the ‘Cheese board’, with Taw Valley Cheddar, Stilton, Kidderton Goats Cheese, grapes, dates, celery, and salted Marcona almonds. This was much enjoyed and the varieties of cheese were diverse (we invariable stick to proper quality Vintage Cheddar at home). I chose the ‘Apple and Winter Berry Crumble’, with custard; this was very fine and fruity, and the custard was good. For wine I had a bottle of the ‘Pure Mirabeau’ Rosé. As my Partner was driving I had to drink this alone; fortunately it was a long very sociable evening catching-up and playing the ‘Left and Right’ game with our former Rotary colleagues. Service was good, despite the pub being very busy.

The food was excellent. We were a large group having Christmas lunch. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I would recommend this restaurant for lunch, although it might be for special occasions as it was a little bit expensive

Really solid roast: Lots of gravy, crackling was really tasty and plenty of pork and veg! Justifies the £19. Only thing that could be improved on were the potatoes.

First time visiting came for a Sunday roast on a bleak and stormy Sunday. What greeted us was a cosy, warm and welcoming setting. We had a little table in the corner and ordered a beef and a pork belly roast. Both meals came out promptly and we dug straight in. The amount of meat on both plates was great and you got a very decent amount of gravy so no need to ask for extras. At £20.00 for the roasts, you get a good amount for your money. The potatoes were some of the best we’ve had from any restaurant roast so very impressed with those. A particular highlight was the crackling that came with the pork belly. Will definitely be returning to try other bits on the menu!

Had a beautiful lunch here with my friends, gorgeous Wine great friendly helpful service. Food was fantastic…. beautiful roaring fire… the waitresses were very accommodating considering we hadn’t booked and it was busy. Lovely atmosphere would come again in a heartbeat.

We really enjoy a dog walk around the local area and then stopping by for a scotch egg and a pint at The White Horse. Honestly, the best scotch eggs ever! Consistently good 🤤 Just all round good atmosphere inside and out. Could be considered a little pricey but I think it’s worth it.

We attended a wedding here. Absolutely perfect! Well done all . Very nice venue room, outdoor space was comfortable and loads of it. The outside bar was a bonus . We had a perfect day, thankyou !

My brother and his wife got married here on the weekend. Absolutely fabulous venue! The food was phenomenal, even my partner enjoyed his food, and he is a VERY fussy eater when we go anywhere. My nephew has an allergy, and whilst I was getting my own baby to sleep downstairs during the wedding breakfast, I could see and hear the kitchen staff being very attentive to his needs and made sure all staff new who he was, and what he could and couldn't be offered. The wedding coordinators were spot on. They even noticed I had left a hair tie on my wrist from having my hair done before I walked down the aisle as a bridesmaid. Special shout out to Ian. He was spot on all day and night, made sure every guest was well looked after, and even needed up having a nice chat with me and my brother (the groom) towards the end of the evening. Top guy!

Monkey Boy recommends this place, ate here on Monday, good choice on a wet September day, feels inviting, food is good and you can tell they use proper local ingredients. I had a burger which was a big firm sized patty, friend had the pork belly, he said it was amazing. Service is great, polite and attentive. The best endorsement is probably that is was packed on a wet Monday night! Says it all.

Lovely restaurant and pub Internally and externally

Had a lovely time the first time I came here so decided to come again. Unfortunately when I had sat at a table the chefs from the kitchen made immature faces at me (back in April). The manager was argumentative with me when I had pointed this out. I was very upset with this and have avoided this place since. However lovely pub garden and décor

This place is amazing and the food is outstanding the best scotch eggs ever they are to die for! I also had the steak which was amazing too but unfortunately didn’t get a picture, the staff are very friendly and fast service too! I highly recommend here for food!

Just stunning Sunday roast , sticky toffee pudding was so light and delectable, staff are very attentive. It’s not cheap but well worth a visit for the roast lamb .

Been before lovely food good size portions always booked. Last visit just turned up ate in the lovely garden. I had pork belly a little smaller portion this time, my wife had linguine add prawns for £5 so we did well the prawns are the most expensive we’ve ever had £5 for 5 prawns you do the maths, so disappointing

Seriously the portion sizes in this place are utter criminal. It was £10 for a starter of lamb koftas... Two one inch pieces of lamb I KID YOU NOT! it's hilariously ludicrous. The lemon drizzle which was £4 to take away was less than a cm thick 🤣🤣 we honestly were dumbfounded. Location and staff were lovely. Barmaid giving the new guy a hard time was difficult to watch.

Gloriously beuatiful pub just off the main road on the bristol to chippenham route. Great food and lovely staff. Sunday lunch was lush (needed a bit more gravy though) The setting on the small stream running through the pubs ground was stunning. Well recommended. Parking is good round the rear of the pub and the short stroll over the little bridge into the seating area was lovely. Will go again ASAP.

Staff nice. The food was nice but I think £16 for a salad is expensive, realised afterwards, there were not any tomatoes as listed in the contents. I had to pay extra £3 for the halloumi. The haddock & chips were apparently good. Only had a main meal.

I booked a table for lunch on 2nd July 2024 to celebrate milestone birthdays for my husband and son on 10th August. There were 7 of us to include 2 children, who had not eaten since breakfast. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive and 1.5 hours for the food. The food was served at 3.08pm! The quality was poor/ average at best. I voiced my displeasure to the manager who offered to discount 2 meals.He had no regard for the poor service and their failure to keep us informed. He eventually reduced the bill by 50%. I will never eat there again!!

A good roast dinner with generous portion size. Nice atmosphere and judging by how busy it was, this is clearly a popular pub.

Popped in for a drink and to chill in the garden. The service was poor, and they messed up the drinks. The pub looked tired and in need of some TLC. I visited this pub loads in the past, but won’t again.

This is THE best place for dining! I follow a low fodmap diet, & this is one of a very few places that understand it! Cannot recommend it highly enough.

This pub has plenty of character with a lovely garden. The waitress who served us was fantastic the whole time. The roast dinner was delicious and very large but some of the potatoes needed a little longer.

This is the first time we have tried their Sunday lunch. Absolutely delicious! Tasty, generous portions and beautifully presented. Deserts were also good, Eton mess, chocolate tart and sticky toffee pudding. Garden area is lovely and there is also an outside bar. We have a nervous rescue dog and they went out of their way to give us a perfect table. Will be back soon ☺️👍

A big thank you to everyone at The White Horse for a wonderful baby shower this weekend in the barn. We hired the space for the afternoon and were so impressed by everything- it really is the perfect venue for something special. Everything was organised, it was easy to let decorators in and the food was absolutely delicious. Thank you so much😀

Furst visit here could not fault in anyway best roast dinner ever .. everything hot well presented .. we all hsd belly pork / roast beef / desserts were lovely too good choices .... staff excellent. Deffo visit here again.

Our friends held their informal wedding renewal here, and it was a great venue for a relaxed celebration. Plenty of room in the grounds, including a marquee area. There's a brilliant dance room then separate (but close) to the main pub, with it's own bar. Staff were lovely and friendly.

It was very busy which is good for them but I was made to feel very uncomfortable when I pointed out that they had under charge for drinks on the bill and then questioned over exactly how many drinks I had.

Visited here on a sunny Saturday late afternoon and I believed they were a bit short staffed which meant the service wasn’t as it should have been. The pub and garden is very nice but the price of the food and’s beer is top end on cost. £5 a pint and £30 for a duck breast really? I see a lot of people buying food but I think it’s a bit overpriced here. My haddock and chips were fine but again for £17 I won’t be rushing back to eat.

Amazing pub and restaurant! This way on business and the only walkable place for food from where I'm staying. Came here both nights and was thoroughly satisfied with my meals (2 courses each night). Nice inside and even better outside and I was really lucky with the weather. It's just a really good space on different levels and includes a marquee for shade or bad weather. The service is excellent! Warm smiles and always happy to help. No TV's here for anybody that wants to watch sport, just a great pub to be replicated anywhere 👍

My Wife and I enjoyed an anniversary dinner here while holidaying in the area and we weren't disappointed! The food was superb, the staff attentive and friendly and the pub characterful. Wouldn't hesitate to return when in the area again!

It was really quiet but it was a Monday when I called in for food on recommendation and my friend was not wrong. Delicious dishes.. A lovely country pub, happy helpful and chatty staff and a huge selection of drinks to enjoy. Rear courtyard is so nice.

Absolutely one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, exquisitely seasoned and served at perfect temperature with a brilliant balance of tastes with each giving the others room to shine. Great service, a brilliant dessert and a very good cider to boot.

Since leaving Australia on holiday had the best roast lunch today with family. Wish we had roast meals like that in Australian Pubs. And service was excellent.

What a lovely pub. The food was delicious and the service was great. Very welcoming and the garden has been done to such a high standard. Perfect for a lovely meal or just a pint out in the sun. What a wonderful pub and food. We walked I and immediately were warmly greeted by the pub dog, closely followed by a human staff member who found us a table. The table was lovely atmosphere with candles on the tables and traditional decor. The menu was great good amount of choice but not to much. The wine was equally good. We were completely delighted when food came out. It looked scrumptious and tasted amazing. The waitress came out with a truly impressive tower of onion rings expertly balanced, I have to give her massive credit. Thought our me the human and canine staff checked we were happy without been intrusive. I highly recommend this pub for a meal or drink.

Just came in for a spontaneous Sunday for a roast. The plates are tiny but full to the brim with food so quite difficult to eat. Quality of food seemed poor and definitely below standard for the price. Service was good in the beginning then we were most ignored for the rest of the time. Atmosphere in the pub is lovely except for the occasional screaming child. Unfortunately this place seems to have gone downhill and we won’t be back.

Service and food is always first rate. I made an error with my most recent booking and the team went out of their way to accommodate us so that we could still have lunch.

Look’s inviting with the wood burning fires unfortunately became to hot, Rare beef ciabatta smelt and tasted sour might have been on the turn should have sent it back except another person from our table had sent their chicken back being to red just made the whole experience rotten Not a place for younger children either,

Lovely evening. I had the sirloin steak which was delicious and very well cooked. Husband had the duck - also very high quality. We both had desserts and whilst these were also nice - they perhaps weren't worth the £8/£9 we spent on them. Only a small thing though and will definitely return soon!

Incredible roast dinner, all freshly cooked, no frozen veg, cooked to perfection , piping hot and a large jug of extra gravy ,,, best roast 👍😊 cozy atmosphere too !!!

Came here for dinner on business and not for the first time, I’ve also been here with friends and family and it never fails to impress. It’s a great pub, quintessentially British in every way with fantastic food and great range of beers. Most definetly my favourite in the area.

Visited here for the First time, Service was very slow over an hour for one course. The Menu is limited and the prices are high, the venue was busy and noisy Decor and tables are rustic style. The food was ok

Food was excellent, pub was busy for a week day. Service was prompt. only criticism was that we were shoved into a corner where the view was restrictive.
