Waves in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We were in Bude for a day and decided to have fish and chips for lunch. The staff were friendly and served us promptly and the food was very good. Fresh and abundant portions. Inside the restaurant was narrow but stretch out lengthways which wasn’t great but there was enough room for the 5 of us.

We stopped by for a light tea. Restaurant was nice and clean, the service was quick and friendly and the food was lovely. Very enjoyable.

We stopped here with our two boys today and the warning sign should have been when I asked if there was mushroom in the veggie burger and none of the staff knew and the manager said he couldn’t find out. I chanced it, but have had better in a kebab shop, it was tasteless and greasy. But the most disappointing aspect was my 10 year old son ordering a steak burger which was too chewy to eat. I said my son couldn’t eat it and would just have the chips. The manager was sat in view of the restaurant on the back stairs playing with his phone but it transpired when we went to paid the bill that he had said we needed to pay for the chips. Which were average at best. So we left and went to the Co-Op to feed my son. Poor service and terrible food, sadly. And not even cheap enough to not bother with this review.

Visited this establishment earlier, was extremely disappointing after ordering “fresh” fish and chips. Nothing about the meal was fresh other than the side salad which was probably the best part of the meal. Crunchy peas, undercooked fish and oven chips. Overpriced and undernourished, would not recommend.

Pretty standard breakfast and coffee, fairly overpriced for what you get but the food filled the void. Could add a little more for a large breakfast at the price of £7.95.

Stopped here for lunch. We had the burgers. They were tasty. Friendly staff and nice food. Cosy cafe. We were at the back. Would return.

Really surprised to see the reviews when I got back. Me and my so. Spent a cold damp morning here with the local knitting group sipping tea and having an excellent breakfast . The girls who served us couldn’t have been more friendly. Decent coffee too

Not a particularly friendly place to eat compared to most restaurants. You don’t really get service with a smile here! Food average.

The BLT was fresh and tasty. Chunky chips were very nice. Waves breakfast was poor as the pudding was too crispy, sausages tasted re cooked (This is why average rating) The grilled chicken was very dry and not much flavour. The staff were really nice. Price was good but food could be better. The restaurant was not busy so no excuse, it should have been better. Salad with the food was generous and ok. (But was it a plate filler?)

What a shame. For a place with 2 customers in it they could not have been less welcoming to our group. They were visibly annoyed at us coming in and then, despite talking loudly about wanting fish, they waited for us to order before letting us know they were out of stock. I get the feeling that this place is only for “locals” and tourists are not welcome. And people wonder why highstreet shops are going under!! How hard is it to give good customer service?

Always feel welcomed and at home when I go into Waves - and had a great breakfast there the other day :) thanks guys xxx

This is in a good location and easily accessible from the shops. The staff were lovely and very welcoming. The food was ok but not amazing. Can’t really criticise it but it wasn’t worth of anything more than average.

We love coming here - food is great and staff are friendly. 2 of us are Coeliac and we had some lovely meals :-)

We visited Waves one afternoon as we had passed by the cafe a few times and it looked nice from the outside. Not looking for a full meal we went for the Cream Tea for two after finding a table upstairs. Service was fine and the staff quick to take the order and deliver the teas. Everything was okay however the scones were smaller than in other places and so I marked down the scoring on this review otherwise it would be higher.

Excellent service from start to finish. Food arrived about 15 mins of ordering- it was prepared very well and was very fresh. My husband had fish and chips and he said it was amazing.I had what I thought would be an ordinary burger, but there was nothing ordinary about it- it was SO tasty and had great flavours. The Sicilian lemonade was amazing!!

We were looking for a family friendly place to eat. We popped in and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was lovely and good sized portions. I’d thoroughly recommend.

As I read some of the poor reviews, I sometimes wonder if it was the same establishment that I visited ! Visiting Bude for the first time in many years, we found Waves during a walk-about. On entering, we found that the Cafe was very busy, with only one window table available. Fortunately the table was spotlessly clean. The menu is comprehensive, our order was taken by a very pleasant waitress. Within minutes the food arrived. It looked beautiful with good presentation. Anne had a Cheese,Ham and Mushroom Omellete with chips. She said it was the best,most filling omelette she had ever had ! I had the Chicken and Bacon Caesar Salad, which was delicious. A very fruity Smoothie followed. The whole eating experience was really excellent. The staff on duty were very attentive, making sure we had all that we required. The cost was very reasonable considering the quality and we intend to return for breakfast tomorrow morning. Well done Waves !

Great little place with excellent food. We just ate there today and had a great meal with great service. Highly recommended

Lovely little place don't pass it by as just another cafe thinking you'll find something better up the road you won't the staff were friendly ,,the place clean and the food very good.

Had breakfast here end of July, food was fine, I ordered a still water which was plonked on the table with no glass or ice or even the question as to whether I wanted a glass or ice. Not a lot to say except it was a pretty average place, that do a nice breakfast but it doesn't really leave a lasting impression.

Lovely staff, very relaxed atmosphere. Eight of us Stayed for 2 hours and had lunch and drinks. Clean and welcoming! Food was superb. Thank you

We enjoyed a lovely meal here as a family, everyone was well catered for, even a slightly fussy child! The service was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return next time we come to Bude.

Had come here a year ago and had enjoyed the food and service, despite prices being slightly high. Came back this year as a large party. Did like the fact that there was plenty of seating for us, however, service wasn't as great as last year with staff looking pretty unhappy generally. Food was good, but again it is quite highly priced. Free WiFi was poor, didn't stay connected.

Friendly staff. But food was disappointing for what it costs. Not good value for money. Nicely situated in the town. Good range of items on the menu.

Came here for lunch quickly earlier this year, thought it was nice food, that I could probably make myself, but never the less was tasty and would come back if I was looking for a safe meal

It was Bude Festive night and the town was heaving - all other places that had been recommended to me were full so I went here - They were obviously about to close - No worries, they made me welcome and I had a great fish and chip supper

Well there was no service with a smile here. The staff were polite, but very much felt like they didnt want to be there. Upon being sat down, we were not asked if we wanted to order drinks. After being left for 5 minutes the waitress came back and took our food and drinks order at the sametime (we were the only two people in there). The food arrived very quickly, I had the burger which I have to say tasted oven cooked..not freshly grilled, and was not piping hot.. the main reason for my poor review was the fact I had two hairs in my food.. the first i just removed (not telling my girlfriend else she would have left her food), the second i slid to the side of the plate and captured in the attached photo. If the customer service had been good, I wouldnt have minded so much. We did not get asked if our food was ok (standard courtesy in most restaurants). Whilst paying a different member of staff served us..who again was polite..I cannot say he was rude, but again..felt as if he was being forced to speak to us..not being generally attentive as most serving staff are. Sorry Waves but this was a very poor impression and will not be returning again.

If you're in need of a bacon sandwich go to Waves; the staff are are lovely, helpful and caring, and the sandwich is great. So is the coffee. Why go anywhere else!!

The food here was lovely. The service was even better. My husband enjoyed his Cornish lager (which is surprising as he loves his carling). When back in bude we would love to return to this lovely restaurant.

We ate here last week while on holiday near Bude. Lovely looking restaurant and the food was delicious but it was a bit pricey. We did enjoy it and tried to go back for a second time but they stop serving food at 8pm! Very surprising and disappointing in a busy seaside town that they closed at that time, we were gutted to not eat there again during our stay.

Visited here for lunch with my wife. On the whole the service and food were good, the portion sizes didn't really reflect the price, I had a prawn salad which had hardly any prawns on it for the £9.50 I paid and my wife's panini had limited filling in it. Apart from that the food was nice and the service was good!

Unfortunately I'd chosen Waves as a restaurant to treat my Mother and brother to a meal out. This proved a costly mistake we ordered our food and had a 34 minute wait which seemed quite long considering we were a table of four and there were only six other patrons when we ordered. My brother and mother both ordered the chicken and ribs their most expensive and signature dish. The wait had proved to have been for nothing because both meals had to be returned the ribs were stone cold! I'd ordered the pesto chicken which was nice, my other half the burger which was also ok. The waitress took the two chicken and ribs and guess what? We had to wait a further 19 minutes and both my wife and I had finished our food then the chicken and ribs returned. When they did return the ribs were now hot but unfortunately everything else had become cold? We decided to cut our losses now finished what we could and asked for the bill? We complained when no discount was offered freely for the rubbish service and undercooked ribs, the returned meals, the timing and was offered an insult of 10% reduction in the bill.

Vine aquí con los miembros de la familia (3 adultos, 10 años y de 13 años) nos sentamos a bebidas y preguntó qué era nos gustaría, después de mirar a través de los menús que decidimos lo que queríamos, pero tengo que admitir que estábamos un poco quisquilloso, queríamos chips de queso con las baguettes/panini y una con pollo y no tocino. No fue problema. La comida en sí era precioso y colma todo lo que fue bueno, ya que viajábamos de regreso a Truro. Teníamos budín así era también muy agradable. Buena relación calidad-precio y la comida era muy abundante.

We often go to Waves when we go into Bude which is on a regular basis . Food is always very good , freshly made and good portion size. Always a friendly welcome. Very much recommended

Second holiday to Bude. Returned to Waves as we have had some lovely meals. Unfortunately they no longer do the tuna steak. Had surf & turf. The steak was cooked perfectly, medium to rare. We also had a teriyaki seasons fillet burger. Everything was cooked perfectly. Friendly service as before.

We've holidayed in Bude for quite a few years now and often visited here and always found the food and service to be very good, but on our recent visit we were a bit disappointed with the food, it was an evening visit and we had a gammon steak and a flat bread with Rump steak, the Gammon was thin and dry and the Steak was over done ( i wasn't given a choice how i wanted the steak cooked) not exactly what i'd expected but hey they're bound to have an off day right??? ..... i'd stick to the basics and they seem to cope but evening fare would be better sought else where

Service made this place. Servers were very nice and friendly. However the food was average in my opinion. Chips were very nice but steak was tough and slightly over cooked. Strawberry Milkshake was awful, don't have them. Overall, good experience.

We visited Wave around 8pm on Thursday. We didn't originally plan to go there as it was our 15 year wedding anniversary however due to our lack of planning we were unable to get a table elsewhere. Wave were due to close at 9pm but welcomed us and we have a great meal. The service was attentive and the food was great. As a family of four and with a daughter who is an awkward eater we would definitely recommend a visit.

Love this little cafe near Bude beachfront, tasty food, freshly cooked, with excellent service from staff. It's always on our itinerary when we visit Bude.

We had a family meal - 2 of us are Coeliacs. Staff knew what we could or could not have on the menu. Friendly staff & food lush. Will def be back

We had lunch there today 3/8 , staff were friendly and the place was clean and tidy but the food was very plain, a microwaved jacket potato with what looked like a tin of tuna and tinned sweetcorn for £6.20 and a tuna melt pannini which was about 1cm thick with what looked like the rest of the tin smeared on it for £6.

This was our second visit and we were a little disappointed compared to our previous time here. The food was good but the prices had increased significantly compared to last September and no longer offered as good value. It did not help that the radio was blaring out a local radio station which spoiled our meal somewhat. There is better similar food to be had elsewshere for less cost in Bude so it is unlikely we will go to Waves again.

Ordered 'Waves breakfast', good size meal but everything on the plate had been deep fried, the black pudding was more like a piece of rock. It was a shame as the ingredients seemed good but were then not cooked to bring out the best tastes.

My wife and I had tried to get a reservation at a restaurant in Bude, but they were all booked. Walking around the town centre we came across Waves and remembered that a friend of ours had recommended it as a nice place to eat for lunch.Stepping in, the place was pretty full, but the counter lady welcomed us to sit up on the landing. Staff was tremendously friendly and helpful. Gave good recommendations and we both chose the Lasagne. What a surprise! Individually baked in dishes with a lovely salad and garlic bread with FRESH roasted garlic. My wife and I thought we were going to have to settle for a burger somewhere, but there were many options on the menu including steaks, chicken, a Vegan option, and of course the lasagne that we will be back for.

We spotted this place while hungrily searching for lunch. We just wanted something simple, veggie friendly and inexpensive which was proving a bit of a challenge in Bude.Downstairs was busy but we were welcomed to take a table upstairs which was empty and deliciously cool. Excellent choice of food and pleased to see a vegan option that wasn't just salad. Between the four of us we had two paninis, 2 sandwiches, cucumber sticks and chips alongside juices, fizzy drinks and water. It came to £24 which was very good value considering the whopping portions! Delicious food, immaculately clean setting and very friendly staff. Will be stopping by again.

The wife spotted this one. We went in near closing time. The staff were great. The food was good and lots of it. Enjoyed our experience.They did not take credit or cash cards at the time. We were paying cash anyway but other customers were a little annoyed although there is a cash machine just outside the door at the bank next door.3 kids from 8 to 16yrs old enjoyed their food and the middle one is very hard to please, she enjoyed it too.

My partner and I stopped of here for a quick lunch before heading to the pubs in bude. We both had jacket potato with cheese and beans and cause they came out quick I thought 'surely they can't be done already' but I was wrong cooked to perfection. Lovely staff and we will return when we are next in bude. Thank you waves

Sunday Brunch or Lunch is always a must. Alex and Andy are always welcoming and friendly. Nice selection on menu for a quick lunch or snack.

mum and i eat here often and most times end up having the same, we just love their chili chicken, andy and alex are lovely and nothing is too much trouble for them. I had a change today and ordered something different, it was delicious, the presentation of the food is always beautiful. Thank you waves !!!!!!

It was okay, but it is more for younger children. I visited in summer 2015 and haven't been since. It isn't really that noticeable, as it is on a small corner.

Very disappointed with the food, I had a sweet chilli chicken baguette. The chicken tasted awful, tough and overcooked. Wasn't impressed with the service either, both servers were moody and not very welcoming. Doubt I would return.

Met a chap here for a first date, lovely surroundings and staff great. Food came quickly and were generous portions. I had a greek salad and my date had chicken caesar. The meals were very nice (and so was the company) so all in all a fan evening. Oh, and i do believe there may be a second date ;-)

Would not go back again found staff rude, couldn't get a drinks order right food was over cooked and no taste to it nothing special and not worth the money. someone had a issue with there food on the night we were there and there attitude was terrible and the man was talking about the lady behind her back which i found Horrible and not very nice in front of other customers.

First time visiting here for food and I have to say it was very good. Good size portions and cooked fresh to order. Food piping hot and a good range on the menu. Very clean inside and well maintained. The only let down was the glass bottle 330ml coke for around £1.95 I believe. While the presentation is better in the bottle and looks nicer, and the £2 seems to be the going rate anywhere for one of these bottles, I still feel annoyed every time I pay around £2 for a coke of the same quantity I can get in a can for over half the price. That being said, the local fruit juices are really good, the food was good. I would visit again

Second night in Bude we went to Waves for our evening meal with our 12 yr old daughter. I had the prawn cocktail to start (nothing special) and followed with the chicken kebabs which were lovely and tasty, my wife had Caesar Salad which was really nice and tasty. The children's menu covers all bases and there are a good choice of soft and alcoholic drinks. overall a good place to eat especially for families.

Food is excellent, prices reasonable, service is good, we ate here regularly as a family and with friends on a regular basis over several years.

Visited twice during 10 day holiday - food piping hot & nicely presented. Service was pretty quick & place clean & tidy. Could do more for vegetarians - but not on their own in Bude in that respect. Will happily eat there again.

Came here for an evening meal with our two girls. Hubby and I had the special 'lamb burger' which was nice although our daughters standard menu burger looked more appealing and she enjoyed it. Childs menu with fish fingers etc suited our little girl! Service very good with lovely friendly smiles and checking everything ok. Only criticism is expected the toffee, caramel bomb to be a warm pudding not icecream as no mention of that in description...nothing major.We would definitely come here again.

Have some really nice food and it's well presented but not much range of food or drinks. No non Alcoholic beer and the desert was really nice looking but thought be warm and it was cold so bit disappointing. Nice customer service from 2 staff members but because we were the only people left in the restaurant I felt like they wanted us to leave we weren't promted in anyway to go but when went down everyone had seem to stop working and didn't say thanks for coming only one who had served us said bye so did feel bit more of a bother but was a nice meal nothing special but good meal for good price

Food lovely bur wait with 2 small kids for over 40 minutes is ridiculous. Served warm beer then told fridge was broken. Food took ages and food was served so hot kids had to wait another 15 mins for it to cool down. Our food was nice just overpriced for what it is and wait is ridiculous. Over staffed too??? Only 2 tables used downstairs and 3 upstairs? Young girls who are grumpy not great when you complain. Wouldn't go again.

We visted hear as a passing thing, we were on our way to a different restrant however when we got there it was closed so wakled passed waves and saw a coulpe eating these yummy burgers in the window so when in. The decor was very seaside cafe and a little dated and it didnt look like it should be open in the evenings for food but we had a meal there two burgers 2 pints for large and a red wine for around £30. It was nice not somewere you would vist for an occation but worth a vist if you want some cheap and chearfull food.

Have just returned from a fortnight in Bude and ate at Waves a number of times. I think we managed to cover all bases and visited for a breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner!All meals were delicious and faultless. Generous portions and cooked perfectly. Drinks were also very enjoyable. Great for children too.Would not hesitate to recommend this place and we will be back when we visit again in October.

Staying in Bude for our anniversary weekend was having a lovely time and decided to have a meal in the town. We chose waves as it seemed nice and reviews were good. Hubby was very disappointed with his mushroom starter there wasn't much mushroom! The lettuce was brown yuck! He complained and the waitress said she would speak to the chef we were offered more but just wanted to have our main course. My sweet chilli chicken felt like it was zapped in the microwave and yet again more brown lettuce. Didn't bother having dessert. when we paid they asked if everything was ok we told another member of staff about the disappointment from the starter. No real apology and no discount offered. Rubbish food with an expensive price tag wish went to the pub instead!

We had a lovely lunch here last week with our 3 children. Spotlessly clean, friendly service and good food. Only minus is hubby felt pasty to be slightly on dry side. Would definitely return however.

We was staying in widemouth bay last week and visited bude twice and had breakfast in waves twice! both times the food and service was excellent ! Next time we plan to stay in bude so we can sample their evening menu

We ate here 3 times in the last week on holiday, 2 evening meals and a breakfast, each time the food was high standard and the staff pleasant. Wood recommend.

Had a lovely meal here with my husband.. He chose lasagne which came with salad and some garlic bread. I chose cod chips and peas.. The service was fast and friendly, and the food didn't take too long to arrive.. The fish and chips were lovely and the food arrived hot. my husband enjoyed his lasagne. The portions were of good size as well.. we will come back to this place when we are next in Bude.

Simple food which is done to a very good standard! No mistakes were made by the staff! Very polite we always visit for out lunch when in Bude.

Down in Devon on a mid-week break, we called at Waves for dinner - and found a winner! (Excuse the awful pun) Parking close by, we headed to this popular eatery and both ordered the "Fish & Chips" @ £8.50, service was very friendly & polite (as it always should be...) and we didn't wait too long for our meals to arrive. First thing to note is that all their dishes are made to order - so no chance of getting a Microwaved Meal from a box - Secondly, the portion size was spot-on, enough to fill the hungriest of appetites, Thirdly (and we feel most importantly) the Fish was just superb! Cooked in a light crispy batter, it complimented the firm yet creamy fish just right, and for £8.50, I couldn't believe the quality we had just eaten. Only a couple of suggestions to make the meal even better: Loose the wilted salad - no place on this plate for it, and replace the "Clipper" brand of tea for Yorkshire tea by Taylors of Harrogate. No need to ask where our next meal in Bude will be. Continued Success, Well Done.

We had spent the morning on Northcott beach and so we were very hungry. This place was just right, it had a relaxed atmosphere and it was family friendly. Despite a sign saying the upstairs was closed they were very accommodating and let us sit upstairs rather than be cramped downstairs, which was mostly full. The food was simple, we had chicken and chips; sausages, peas and chips and burger and chips. They didn't mind us swapping the menu offerings around and my fussy toddler was happy to eat the peas and chips, the sausages might have been slightly spicy for him. The food tasted fresh. The facilities were quite clean and there was a baby changing room on the ground floor. The food came out quickly. Plenty of high chairs you need one. Staff were friendly.

We had dinner here one night and it was really tasty food and it was priced reasonably. The waitress was really lovely and we were nice and relaxed. Would recommend either for lunch or dinner.

Popped in for a coffee with my daughter and ended up staying for breakfast - perfectly poached eggs. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is an extensive menu to choose from. Highly recommended

If you do one thing when you visit Bude you need to pop into Waves and try their home made cake. It was beautiful! We also had lunch on a seperate occasion as well and everything tasted incredible.

After a heavy night out and recovering from the previous day's waves this is a great place to fill yourself full of full cooked breakfasts. The food here has never ceased to amaze, a definite place to head to.

The meal was well cooked and presented. We were a large party, so it took a while for the meal to be served to everyone. But the staff were friendly and helpful. A good place to eat.

Whenever in town, this is my first choice to stop, friendly staff good food, comfy and quiet, what more can you ask for

We have visited here several times when visiting Bude and have never been disappointed. The breakfast was cooked well and not at all greasy and on a cold wet morning the atmosphere and friendly staff are very welcome! We have also stopped for lunch and once again the food has been well cooked and well presented. The staff can't do enough for you and there are some lovely cakes on display to purchase for the trip home! Whether it is a quick cuppa or something more substantial you are after, you can't get go wrong, and you can watch the world go by at the same time!

We had a soup (uneventful) a large burger (ok) and a couple of cappuccinos (ok) - all items were served by a quiet and loose waiter. We enjoyed spending a couple of hours at the Wavers, raeding, relaxing with the free wifi.

First time we have eaten in this restaurant as it was recommended by family that had eaten in there in July. A nice menu with lots of choice, good children's menu. Large portion sizes and tastes great.

Great place to do a work out or just relax great swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room and the gym

Had lunch here and the food was lovely - enjoyed two breakfasts here - the food is freshly cooked and is presented nicely (no grease) the prices are reasonable - the staff are always welcoming and friendly - well worth a visit - the cakes look amazing too
