Booked the Tally Ho for a wake as it was near the Crematorium. From the moment they emailed details to the day of the wake everything was done very promptly and professionally. Very reasonable prices. The funeral was for my mother who had been a pub landlady in her day, and she would have approved of this type of proper pub. Food was plentiful and good quality. They allowed me to bring in some memorial photos beforehand too. The pub was still open to other people but we didn't really notice. Leftover food was wrapped up for us. Staff were friendly throughout. Thank you for making a stressful day more bearable

The food here (especially the specials board) just gets better and better. A lovely warm atmosphere, a mix of locals and people passing by. Great garden too.

Popped into the Tally Ho pub after a short Riverside walk with a friend for some refreshments. We were welcomed by a friendly & inviting staff member who instantly put up both at ease. My friend had a half pint of lemonade, myself a recent new barrel of locally produced real ale of Avocet from Exeter Brewery, they also had Jail Ale from Dartmoor Brewery on. Wasn't sure on food so went for the cheesy chips, this was near on a main course which was perfect for our needs. The quality if the chunky chips & the fact that the cheese was layered on not just put on top like most pubs do was great. Am really looking forward to returning for a proper meal as the menu looks fantastic. The customer service was exceptional.

Four of us met there for lunch….and we all have nothing but praise to say about not only the food but the fantastic service, together with the overall ambience of this pub/restaurant, Thank you to all the staff concerned for making this such a memorable ‘Christmas’ meal…truly appreciated…

I chose this venue to hold my fathers wake which is something you can tell the pub does alot. I dropped some photo boards off before the funeral which they arranged nicely before we arrived. They left a space to display the coffin flowers by the photos and set up a huge buffet in the far corner of pub which made it feel more private from the public. We had around 50 people and there was enough food for all and tea and coffee. There was easy access to the garden to for those who had dogs. Food was lovely and staff very helpful. It was an emotional day for all and having a well organised wake venue reduced the stress on the day. Thanks all.

Very welcoming to humans and dogs, which was great after a difficult morning for us. Lovely friendly helpful staff who served us all very quickly and efficiently without any feeling of hurrying us. The food was excellent - nice sized meals that kept everyone happy. Thank you.

Our daughter and her husband had there wedding reception here. The staff put on a fantastic day. The food was exemplary. They catered with canapés and a barbecue. They all worked so hard. Thank you all for a lovely afternoon and evening. Well done!!!

A nice pub with great local clientele and a fine extensive menu. Staff were courteous and efficient and food came swiftly. The meals are tasty and pleasant but I would question why the portions are so large. More is not always better and the food is good enough to convince us without feeling I am wasting what I had to leave. Definitely worth a visit.

What a friendly, warm and welcoming pub. Has a lovely feel to it and staff are cheery and so friendly. Our food was top notch and came out quickly and hot. The garden is also lovely and although a bit cold when we visited, we could see that it’s a lovely place to spend a sunny afternoon.

This pub is amazing the food is delicious the staff are wonderful I go there on my own sometimes with my dog and always feel comfortable safe and welcome I also go with family and friends highly recommend the Tally there are not many pubs left like this its a little treasure x

My husband and I made a trip out to the Tally Ho to book my Dads wake. It was around 1130 in the morning, we could see the lights were on and who I can only assume was the manager was behind the bar. He could see us looking and rather rudely shouted “we aren’t open until 12”. It was during the cold spell and we didn’t want to wait around for half an hour so my husband said to him through the window “do you still accommodate wakes” he stormed over to the door and opened it, my husband said “sorry to bother you we were looking to book a wake”, the man was so rude and dismissive he tutted and said “I haven’t got time for that come back later” and closed the door. Never will we eat in the pub again. It used to be so lovely in there, I had heard from friends that there was a very rude man that worked there - if he’s the manager I can’t see him lasting very long!

It was 9 years ago since I wrote my last review on the Tally Ho when I said I hoped that it would survive. No need to worry, good quality food and friendly staff is a winner. Been again today as we are regular customers now and hope to continue to be. Rump steak is fantastic, there are always Specials on the board but why change if you know something is good. My husband always has the Hunters Chicken and like me is predictable. Thank you Ed for being so accommodating to my requests, and thank you to the bar lady who knows what I want before I order!

We were attending a family christening at St Luke's church nearby and a buffet had been arranged here. The pub is lovely and the interior reminds me very much of a traditional local pub. There was a good selection of beer and they serve cask ale, when we were there they had Dartmoor's Jail Ale a very good beer and well kept. I'm afraid I can't comment on wine selection but I didn't hear complaints and the Prosecco was going down well. The crowning glory of this excellent pub is the beer garden. Given we were very lucky with the weather we could make full use of this facility. Great seating areas and very nice wooden children's play areas, yes plural! We all had a really great time at the buffet. The food was of A very good standard and a nice variety. As veggies the choice for us was among the best we have had. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Would fully recommend this as a venue and would love to return as a customer for a drink.

husband and I had dinner here on sat8th august. we were down for grandsons 18th birthday party on the friday night. we were booked in at the premier inn. after studying their evening menu decided not for us. so in the afternoon we made our way to the tally ho welcomed by a very nice friendly lady. we had a drink looked at the menu straight away decided to book a table the nice lady imediatley put a reserved sign on the table. we duly arrived for our meal the landlord greeted us we ordered drinks and decided what we wanted. my husband ordered chilli he was asked how hot he would like it. i had rump steak asked for medium well both dishes cam as ordered. fantastic place very friendly helpful staff. if down that way again will definatley be back. well done to you all

I went to this pub yesterday with two friends, for lunch. The menu was very varied and the food we chose was delicious and reasonably priced. The beer garden is spacious and has shady spots, for the warmer days. All round an excellent pub!

IF I COULD GIVE THIS PUB A ZERO STAR RATING I WOULD!!!FIRST OF ALL I WOULD LIKE TO SAY HOW UTTERLY APPALLED & DISGUSTED I AM AT THE TOTAL LACK OF HUMAN COMPASSION & EMPATY SHOWN BY THE STAFF AT THIS PUB!! I had just been to my brothers funeral & we had decided to go to this pub for a couple of drinks after the service. First of all when I entered the pub I approached the bar to 2 extremely rude members of staff who told me very bluntly that there wouldn’t be space for me to sit with my mother & that I’d have to sit outside (no other explanation of any rules or procedures they had in place) They then proceeded to turn their back on me while I tried to order a drink .... I politely asked for the drink I wanted while the member of staff had her back turned to me. When a few of the group where leaving they went to hug my mother, baring in mind she’s just lost her son. A member a staff then approached my mother & very rudely told her NOT TO DO THAT!! & that she was to SIT DOWN!! My mother then told the member of staff that she’d just lost her son & then was shouted at & told that they’d also lost someone recently too & that didn’t matter in this situation!! I totally understand that there are certain rules that have to be adhered to but there is a certain way of approaching things, taking into consideration that everyone in the group of people that were there had just lost a loved one & at least showing some kind of decent human respect, compassion & empathy .... THE MEMBERS OF STAFF THAT WERE INVOLVED IN THIS INCIDENT SHOULD BE UTTERLY ASHAMED WITH THEMSELVES FOR SHOWING OTHER HUMAN BEINGS SO LITTLE COMPASSION. THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE WORLD TODAY. FEAR & CONTROL COMES BEFORE ANY KIND OF HUMAN DECENCY.

Hoy fui a comer con otros 8 amigos, pasamos una noche increíble, el personal fue amable y acogedor, nada fue un problema para ellos. Extremadamente organizado y en cuanto a la comida, era de primera clase, si quieres comer fuera, te recomiendo encarecidamente el Tally Ho. Gracias a todos por una noche increíble.

Asistimos al Tally Ho Inn esta noche y todo fue increíble como siempre lo ha sido. Tuvimos un gran servicio y la comida era deliciosa. Comí un pollo de cazadores y estaba delicioso al igual que el resto de la comida de la fiesta. Aunque era la última noche de comer fuera para ayudar y era un día festivo, a pesar de estar muy concurrido, el servicio y la comida era genial y manejaron muy bien el período ocupado. Definitivamente estaremos visitando nuevamente. ¡El mejor pub en el que he estado en mucho tiempo! ! !

Durante un viaje por carretera para ver las universidades de West Country para nuestra hija. Habíamos hablado con PHO en Exeter para reservar una mesa para las 19:30 del miércoles 26/08/2020, cuando llegamos dijeron que no tenían conocimiento de la reserva y que estaban llenos. Probamos muchos otros establecimientos pero ninguno tenía vacantes debido a la política de comer fuera de Dishi Rishi.Estábamos conduciendo hacia nuestro hotel y vimos una señal para el Tally Ho, condujimos por la calle esperando que estuviera lleno, ahora eran más de las 20:00, entré y hablé con la joven detrás de la barra que dijo que todavía estaban sirviendo.Nos alegramos de que la comida era excelente ya un precio razonable. Recomiendo las tartas caseras. Mi esposa y mis dos hijas también disfrutaron de sus comidas. No hubo nada que te empujara a salir después

Fui a Exeter por unos días de vacaciones y quería salir a comer el lunes por la noche, pero debido a que Eat Out Help en todas partes estaba completo. Salimos esperando que hubiera espacio y, pero estaban completamente reservados, pero como estábamos de vacaciones, nos apretujaron.Nos sentamos al sol en el jardín de cerveza socialmente distanciado y disfrutamos de unas sidras encantadoras mientras esperábamos nuestro turno. Tuve la lasaña casera, mmm, era preciosa y la chiabatta de ajo también estaba deliciosa. Mi papá tenía el jamón que se derretía bien en la boca y mi mamá tenía el pollo de los cazadores que estaba tan delicioso que no quería detenerse cuando estaba llena. ¡El gran tamaño de las porciones y las tres comidas fueron absolutamente deliciosas! ! ! (Muy raro estos días)Luego comí el Brownie, que también estaba muy rico y mi padre tenía el pudín de caramelo pegajoso, que era más como un pudín de melaza pero increíblemente bueno.El personal era encantador, no estaba lleno y estaba bien socialmente a distancia y nos sentimos seguros allí.Gracias de nuevo al personal por instalarnos. ¡Pasamos una agradable velada en su casa!

Pub comunitario encantador con un personal amable, excelente comida asequible y excelentes cervezas. La prueba los domingos por la noche es muy divertida, por lo general está bien respaldada y solo cuesta 1 cabeza para ingresar. Hemos comido en la mayoría de los restaurantes y queríamos probar en un lugar que no hemos comido y como está a 5 minutos en coche, decidimos el conteo. . . Sí, estuvo bien! ! No era sorprendente, es lo que esperarías en un pub. . Sí, creo que nos gustaría ir de nuevo.

Had a lovely lunch yesterday. The homemade steak and mushroom pie was delicious - a proper pie as opposed to those pretend pies with random pastry lids so beloved of far too many pubs. The chips were chunky and the gravy was delicious. My partner's jacket with prawns was also delicious (big prawns in a very tasty sauce). Did I mention delicious?The pub doesn't look much from outside and the interior is a tad tired and in need of a refresh but don't let that put you off - the food is lovely and the service very friendly.

Recommended by friends as we were visiting the area for the day, it didn’t disappoint; a friendly welcome, great beer (Avocet👍) excellent fresh cooked food, sunny beer garden. How all pubs should be! Will visit again when we’re back....

We visit Exeter quite regularly and can't believe we have only just discovered this place.The food was so good! Really good portion sizes tooI had the fish pie from the specials board and there was so much fish in the pie. The best I've ever had!My partner had the steak & ale pie and he was very satisfied, the mash and potato and gravy was spot on!The kids meals were also great and hit the spot.Ice cream was incredible!The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble.The inside of the pub is nice and cosy, but outside there is a lovely spacious beer garden with plenty to keep the kids amused.We will definitely return the next time we are in the area

We moved to Exeter two years ago and just before we moved, we visited the Tally Ho for lunch as we knew it would be our local. We, and our puppy, were made to feel extremely welcome, even being invited to the party to celebrate the first anniversary of the landlord taking over. Since then we have visited several times a week (therefore hundreds of times) and we have never seen any sign of trouble nor "drunken idiocy" mentioned by an earlier reviewer. Having heard from several sources about what happened on the evening of The Tempest, I think the drama group and their audience need to reflect on a few points :1 Choosing to put on a play in a pub garden on a Friday evening in the summer smacks of a total lack of foresight. It's obvious there will be drinkers in high spirits in the garden at that time. 2 The landlord was kind enough to provide his premises free of charge. If you want privacy, you should pay for it. 3 Several people have said the initial request for quiet was very rude, which almost certainly contributed to what ensued. A more diplomatic approach would almost certainly have resulted in more cooperation. 4 My son and his partner are very keen on amateur dramatics, so I am very familiar with such groups. Although some are perfectly reasonable people, many are luvvies who believe it's all about them and no one else matters. I don't know anyone in this group, but I expect several of them have this same sense of entitlement judging by the reviews of the audience members. 5 You need to realise Ed and Debs are running a business, so of course their regulars are very important to them, providing long term income. I doubt if the drama group or their audience will be missed as customers.

Last night we enjoyed yet another high quality meal at The Tally Ho. This lived up to the high standard we have come to expect as frequent visitors to this establishment,over the past three years that the present publican has been running this,our local pub. The general atmosphere is congenial and the staff welcoming and courteous. Ed and Debs have a heart for the community. It was a good venture of theirs to agree to the staging of a Shakespeare play in part of their garden recently. As members of the cast my wife and I found it disappointing that a few non-typical customers spoiled the enjoyment of the audience by deliberately raucous and antisocial behaviour. We appreciate the conflicting emotions that this non-typical situation aroused. We also appreciate the genuine good will and aspirations of Ed and Debs and we trust that such an unusual incident will not deter discerning customers.

El clima era hermoso y la ubicación idílica y me sorprendió gratamente al principio, ya que Shakespeare no es algo que se encuentra en muchos pubs. Compré una copa de vino (de nuevo a un precio razonable) y me senté.

Always enjoy the Tally Ho, very friendly staff and always looked after. Food is quality and also the hog roasts are brilliant. The atmosphere is amazing and everyone is very friendly.

Anoche fui con su familia a su pub pub para asistir a un evento que pagamos 10 por cabeza, también compramos bebidas, un gran número de personas mayormente mayores. Pero absolutamente arruinado por un grupo de "lugareños" que no habían pagado, pero sentían que tenían derecho a estar allí interrumpiendo toda la tarde, insultando y abusando verbalmente de las personas, ¡hasta el punto en que apareció la policía! Nunca conocí a personas tan groseras e ignorantes en mi vida. Qué vergüenza, el propietario de un pub, Ed, por no salir y tratar con eso. No vendrá a más de tus eventos. Yo también soy local.

We turned up on a recommendation at 8.55pm to be greeted by friendly staff, a warm welcome and good honest hearty pub food. Perfect. Refuelled for our journey back to Cornwall. Thank you 👍

Solíamos venir aquí hace años, pero un movimiento de la casa lo hizo fuera del área, pero fue agradable regresar a un territorio familiar. We have come here often for a drink but recently have enjoyed Sunday lunch on two occasions. Great local cooked food. Friendly pub and service. Really recommended and will become a local for us for years to come.

About 30 of us all went here for drinks after a funeral, The staff were all very welcoming and friendly.

El pub se veía acogedor y acogedor con decoraciones navideñas de buen gusto, y nuestras mesas habían sido cuidadosamente arregladas. Aunque estaba muy ocupado con otros comensales, todo funcionaba como un reloj con un servicio atento y rápido. Se había seleccionado una variedad de comidas, y todos estaban muy contentos con su elección. Definitivamente vamos a ir de nuevo.

Había un grupo de nosotros haciendo una caminata de la iglesia desde la Condesa Weir hasta el muelle de Exeter, y fuimos al pub Tally Ho a almorzar. El personal era muy acogedor y no hubo problema de que algunos de nosotros llegáramos un poco tarde debido a las piernas cortas. Todos tuvimos una excelente comida, muy bien cocinada y nos complació mucho que hubiera una opción de apetito más pequeña también.

Llamé el viernes por la noche y pregunté si podíamos bajar en 20/30 minutos para una mesa de cuatro y no hubo ningún problema, la chica del teléfono era encantadora.

Even though the pub was busy, the food and service was first class. Every one was friendly and the atmosphere was great. Would recommend a visit.

Just been here for an amazing roast lamb, so tasty, filling and amazing service. Reasonable priced and lovely play area for our 2 year old. Had ferrero rocher cheesecake which was to die for! Very generous portions and lovely atmosphere! Will be coming again.

My family organised a Wake at the Tally Ho today on the recommendation of other people and it was an excellent decision.

A genuine safe family friendly location, with excellent value for money food, served up with a massive dish of honest hospitality........the pub is also excellent for that quiet drink with friends, a pit stop on a cycle ride or a watering hole for the dog.......

We visited this Pub in late July while staying nearby in Exeter. Staff very friendly, and made you feel at home. We enjoyed a nice meal which was brought out in a reasonable time. nice and hot, & quite Tasty .

How nice to find a pub that still serves sandwiches. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the seating was comfortable. We visited for the first time at lunchtime on a Friday and were well pleased with the whole experience. There was room for us in the car park, but there is also plenty of on street parking space.

Came here on Saturday lunch time. The play area is really good and my little girl played for ages! The staff were lovely - very helpful and chatty, making us feel very welcome.

Went in on on the bank holiday early afternoon. The staff were frenziedly and the food was great. Fairly typical pub menu but everything we had on our table was well cooked, well presented and very tasty. Will be going back again soon!

My daughter's funeral reception was held here. These are always tricky as no-one knows how many people are likely to turn up. We guessed there might be a hundred or so guests, so the pub laid on a hog roast with salads and vegetarian option to give us some flexibility. In fact some 250 people came and all said the food was excellent. My daughter was born profoundly deaf, most of her friends are in the Deaf community and the friendly staff went the extra mile by learning some sign language. They coped magnificently with the rush of people all wanting drinks at once. The reception was mainly held in the beautiful garden, where there is also a play area for the little ones. Highly recommended for a funeral reception, or indeed any other sort of reception/party. So sorry I don't live in Exeter, otherwise this would be definitely on my list for regular visits.

Teníamos fiesta 50 cumpleaños de mi marido de aquí el sábado y no podíamos haber pedido más. Excelente ambiente, comida, jardín hermoso tanto para adultos como para niños, y el personal no podría haber sido más servicial, especialmente cuando alguien nos quedamos atrapados en el inodoro. Gracias y también recomendamos el concurso el domingo por la noche una gran noche de diversión.

Este pequeño pub es excelente, me y varios otros miembros de la familia fuimos a la Tally Ho el Sábado, 10 de junio de 2017. Teníamos una persona y Sin Gluten de trigo en nuestro grupo y el propietario era muy rápido para asegurarse de que esta persona tenía una abundante variedad de alimentos.

Aparecimos para almorzar con nuestros dos hijos y la abuela. Mis hijos puede ser un poco quisquilloso con verduras pero cuando pregunté el Tally Ho estaban más que dispuestos a ayudar y pudimos darles una opción diferente a lo que había en el menú. Tanto la abuela y yo pasamos el asado que salió con una gran selección de verduras, patatas y pudines yorkshire super, la carne era muy sabroso y en realidad había mucho para terminar. Aunque estaban ocupados recibimos nuestra comida en buen tiempo y excelente servicio. Los chicos disfrutaron jugando en el enorme jardín, que estaba equipado con trepadores y columpios para jugar. Sin duda volveremos, había un ambiente muy simpático y nada molestan a mucho.

Encontré este muy agradable pub cerca de mi hotel. Pedí el plato para que whitebait era el mejor que he tomado en mucho tiempo seguido por una excelente pastor tarta casera. Una buena ale. El pub estaba muy limpio y elegante, con un personal amable y educado.

This inn should be our local , ordered the large fish and chips, when it arrived I should have sent it back,it had been in the fryer so long it was dark brown,the fish was dry and as being large I seen bigger child's portions,perhaps it shrunk from being so overcooked the chips were nice though,my wife had the chili that was contained in a bowl to stop it from escaping. not a lot of taste, a great pity,was hoping for a lot better.

Went here today Sunday.we had roast beef,the food was already plated up.the beef was pre packed! 4 roast spuds which were nice and crispy Yorkshire pud which was ok.in a separate dish came which we had to share carrots,swede that had butter in and red cabbage! I don't like butter in my veg also red cabbage! Oh we had a jug of gravy to! There was no green veg.we were hugely disappointed and would not recommend or be returning!

I visited this pub, with my 10 month old son, for a pit stop after being out for the morning. As soon as we walked in the guy behind the bar welcomed us with a smile and good afternoon. Although it was only just after 12 there was already quite a few people sat in the bar. The landlord and landlady although they were busy doing lots of things around the pub, came over introduced themselves and were very friendly. "Debs" the landlady took me outside to show me the new beer garden that has recently been completed. Along with a lovely children's play area which will be great for my son when he is slightly older. Although I didn't eat on this occasion I will without doubt be returning. For me it was the small touches, the friendly atmosphere that made it a lovely visit to a lovely local pub.

We loved this delightful village pub with large beer garden. The lady serving at the bar was super friendly and even offered me cashback from the till when I asked where the nearest ATM was. We only had drinks but saw others eating what looked like delicious home made food. Lot's of beers to choose from too. Internal decor is very 'olde worlde' with beamed ceilings and exactly what you would expect to find in an English pub. Toilets were modern and spotlessly clean. We loved this place and would have loved to had dinner there on an evening but unfortunately our visit was enroute to a different destination.

Had a fabulous meal at the Tally Ho. Fantastic food great value and the perfect hosts! Perfect atmosphere and great homemade food. Well done.

Myself and 5 other members of my family inc 3 little children stopped at tally ho pub on way back from our holiday. The staff were very friendly and the food was homemade and delicious, we all enjoyed every mouthful. Had a lovely park for the kids aswell. Will definitely visit in the future when we venture down to exmouth again.

Booked the Tally Ho for a table for 10 on Easter Saturday lunch time. (three boys aged 3 -6 plus parents and grandparents) We sat initially in the very pleasant walled garden ...children playing on ...swings climbing fames etc...very well maintained. We were made to feel very welcome from the outset ... ordered drinks for 10 which were delivered to our tables in the garden plus menus for lunch. Ate inside the pub...excellent service throughout ...food of high quality and very fairly priced. Staff attentive and pleasant. Lovely friendly atmosphere . The whole family agreed ...really lovely experience! Well done Tally Ho

Landlord and landlady and team are very friendly and welcoming, always a warm atmosphere. great home cooked food. They probably have Exeter's best beer garden, brilliant for kids to run around to their hearts content. very accommodating with any specific requirements even for a fussy customer like me. I had my birthday party here and took over their garden with around 40-50 people. nothing was too much trouble. all the staff bent over backwards to make sure the whole afternoon went perfectly, great time was had by all. can't thank you all enough.

Friendly local pub, OK food in a traditional setting, Good size beer garden with children;s play area.

Greeted with friendly bar staff , tables laid for the occasion, food excellent, ales kept well, friendly staff throughout the evening, even Greeted by the manager at the end of the night, would certainly go there again Mike and jenny

We (my wife and I) travelled 10 miles to this pub, as it was recommended to us, unfortunately we were ignored for nearly 10 minutes whilst standing at the bar, it seemed more important to the staff to Chat with one another or when someone else came to the bar they would get served, this happened at least twice, I don't think I am invisible the last time I looked, being 6ft 2inch (186cm) just over 13 stone (85kilo) and quite fit (as my wife would put it), and over 55 years old, we decided to leave, why do you want to wait to give your hard earned to people who ignore you, please note the pub was not overly busy, yes it was a Sunday but it was after 15.00hrs.I phoned the pub 20 minutes later to ask who was the manager ? the answer I got was "Yes" then I just waited, the manager came to the phone within 10seconds, I explained what had happened and she was very apologetic , and explained that she was in the kitchen most of the time.Would I recommend this pub, it is in a nice location, the pub looks quaint, service awful, welcome, none. I will leave this upto you to decide, but after a 20 mile round trip I don't think we would waste our time again. Oh and by the way nice way to spend my birthday.

We visited on Sunday with local friends and were given a very warm welcome. It's busy, so book, but we were still served very quickly and courteously. Good 'home cooking' type food as opposed to 'fine dining' but wholesome and tasty and a good atmosphere.

Good food and good friendly service. The pub also serves smaller portions for older people which is really good. There is also a "specials menu" which sounds really good.

Dropped in on the off chance, we had been walking along the river and canal from Exeter Quay. Must say we were very pleased we did. The staff were superbly friendly and the food was excellent. Nicely refurbished toilets too.
