I visited here with my friend, her 2x children and her Mum. We arrived here at 1300 on a Friday. I ordered a carrot and coriander soup - when it came out it was literally a puree (looked like a baby food pouch). It was like they forgot to blend it or something! I immediately complained (others in the pub also cancelled their soup order) and ordered a ciabatta and chips instead. When it eventually came out the ciabatta was not toasted and was simply a panini roll with some grated cheese in it. My friend ordered the curry - and it was super dry with minimal sauce and had kidney beans in it?? (Masquerading as a chilli?!) My friend ordered some ice cream for dessert for her children. She was charged £3.50 for pretty much half a scoop! Overall for 3 adult meals and 1 child meal and desert with 4 drinks it cost £65. Absolutely extortionate for such poor quality food! I will NEVER return. Such awful food and expensive for what you get!

Lovely old pub with friendly and accommodating staff. Ate here twice within a weeks stay. First night we tried the pork belly special and lasagne. Other half said lasagne with the salad and garlic bread was very good. The pork belly was with mash and roasted veg which although tasted really nice, the 'crackling' on top was soft. Next meal was special salmon with parsley sauce and chicken burger. The salmon, so I was told wasn't great, the sauce if it was parsley was thin and watery. Maybe the wrong sauce but definitely wasn't parsley. Burger although huge was more hash browns, cheese and bun rather than chicken. Butterfly chicken is a double breast, this was really small and although being told the buttermilk chicken was off opted for the fried breast which was really dry. Really underwhelmed despite previous reviews

Went for drinks and dinner on a Saturday night with my wife. Very friendly girl managing the front of house single-handed. But food service was abysmal. Place was reasonable busy but not too much. I ordered Pork Belly but five minutes later I was told it was now unavailable. So I ordered chicken curry, only to be told after 10 minutes that too was unavailable. I finally ordered pan fried salmon fillet. We then waited for nearly an hour, but nothing came. When I asked they said 'another 10 minutes'. After 15 and still no joy, we were told 'another 10-15 minutes'. I lost my patience and walked out. Dreadful.

We booked the Masons Arms for a birthday celebration family Sunday lunch. 7 adults, 1 child, 3 babies and 3 dogs. We were seated in a spacious room, just away from the main bar area which was brilliant so we weren’t in the way. There were 3 veggies in our group and the nut roast was delicious (big portions too) The food was delicious, we had a starter and main course and kids options were great as well. Generous helpings all round and a good selection of draught beers and lagers. Dogs were very welcome and the locals were very friendly. Our host was very attentive throughout our stay, keeping us informed how long the food would be and checking we were happy. Service was excellent and fair prices. If we’re in this part of the country again, we’ll definitely be back. Very Highly recommended.

This pub was recommended (ironically by another pub!) for a Sunday roast so we booked a table. We were seated for 25 mins at least and ended up asking the waitress “do we order at the bar?”. She said she’d be with us soon. The place was not busy at all. When she served the table of 5, who’d arrived 20 mins after us and completely ignored us we decided to leave. Food didn’t look that appetising anyway. Minimal apology, no effort to find out why we were still waiting on service, no offer of a free drink for their complete lack of service. Certainly won’t ever bother going again.

We visited on the 10/6. It was a spur of the moment meal as we had popped in for a drink and decided to have dinner seeing we were there already. We ordered the Belly Pork, Fish & Chips & large Rump Steak with Blue cheese sauce. I have to say the food was very good. Contrary to another review the fish & chips which I had was delicious. The chips were as described chunky and were like home cooked chips. Can’t understand why people have complained about them? If you want standard chips or fries don’t order a meal with chunky chips. I was told by my parents their food was also delicious. The stand out of the meal was the Blue cheese Sauce. That alone would make me return. We live very local and have been meaning to visit for a long time. I can see this becoming our new local. The waiter was incredibly friendly & helpful and the bar staff the same. Thank you, we will be back (probably this weekend).

Ordered the beer battered cod and chips, the fish was average and batter was tasteless. The chips were terrible, when we questioned the waiter about the chips he informed us there had been lots of complaints about them, so the question is.... why were they serving them knowing that!!! Peter a dear friend recommended the Masons Arms at Wiliton so on the way to our holiday destination we decided to stop for lunch, we just made it at 13:45 to order our food. The lady behind the bar was friendly and attentive, my wife opted for the Fish and Chips and I had the Cajun Chicken off the specials board, washed down with a pint of "Jail Ale" from Dartmoor Brewery.Well the food when it arrived was delicious, the fish literally hung over the edge of the plate with a mountain of fresh chips, and a lovely side salad. My Cajun chicken was accompanied by spiced rice, a huge dish of coleslaw and matching side salad. The spicing of the rice and chicken were both subtle and not in the least overpowering. Neither of us had room for a desert. We decided then and there we would return at some point so on Thursday last we visited again. The pub was packed and we had not booked but again the same lady sorted out table for us and took our order. My wife opted for the Rib-eye steak and I opted for the Curry of the Day a Chicken Korma, I had another pint of Jail Ale and my wife a large Merlot. In spite of the pub being packed our food arrived pretty quickly and was as good as the Monday lunchtime, we reference our Rib-eye steaks to our first and best in Nottingham some years ago, my wife rated this one just as good if not better! I should have checked the photo I took so its missing half of my wife's plate Opps!My Chicken Korma was lovely, the chicken was succulent and the sauce superb, I fancied a desert and ordered the Apple Crumble and Custard and my wife had the Triple choc Brownie. These should carry a health warning they are huge!!! My Apple crumble would have fed a family of 4!! I did my best but it got me beat. Only down side was that the second pint of Jail Ale was not quite as good as the first may be the barrel was nearly gone.

We had pre booked a meal with some friends for seven pm and made our way to the restaurant on time. The first person we saw was the same one who booked us in, but he forgot to tell us where the table was. After half an hour's wait we found the owner who was waiting for us at another area. The food we selected was a bit bland and dry, although plentiful. During our time there we saw at least four cats around the restaurant and on the bar. Not very hygienic. Returning to our room we found the heating off and the duvet was too small for the bed size. In February that's not very warm.

Welcoming staff and nicely kept ale. Food was good and all served together even though there were nine of us. Stick to pub classics and you won't go wrong, but as with many pubs that I would suggest just try a little bit too hard some of the fancier things in the menu, like the salmon, fall a little short. A great place to eat though for good standard pub fayre and I would come again. And they do accept cards, unlike the Wyndham Arms just up the road, which is a good thing!

Some of the dishes were very good, the sea bass not so, but the main problem was the totally disinterested and impolite man behind the bar. He was unwelcoming and reluctant and made us feel like we were bothering him by asking questions on the phone beforehand or ordering drinks, etc! It’s a shame as Williton seems to be lacking a decent food pub and this has the location and aesthetics to be really good, but just not the right people managing it, it seems. We would use it all the time if there was just a more relaxed and happy vibe but as it stands we won’t go there again.

So ordered the mushroom stroganoff and received a large bowl 3/4 full of stroganoff with such a small amount of rice it soon turned into stroganoff soup. Tried to eat it with a spoon but just really a sauce soup, quite unpleasant. An attempt to rescue it with more rice and the dish reheated, but just horrible. So gave up and sent it back. After reading some of the reviews we were looking forward to a lovely home cooked pub meal however it was a little disappointing . We were one of the first to arrive as they only serve food from 6pm we were seated quickly however we noticed 3 of the specials had already sold out we then ordered to find out my husbands pie was also sold out so he had to change to a steak his was nice enough however my pie was average and the mash was definitely frozen with some large hard lumps in it my daughter had chicken coujons which were ok we then waited after dishes were removed another 35 mins to be asked what deserts we wanted by now we were ready to leave . I think the issue with their service was only one bar staff who also took your order and one waiting on who was the most polite young man . Overall it was average although the staff were very friendly the rest let it down there was also no ambiance it was very quiet feel to the place

Visited here yesterday for a lunch with a customer of my business. There doesn't seem to be a lot of places to eat in the area so tried here.

A group of eight of us turned up looking for a table, the staff were very accommodating especially as they had another large party due in as well. Food was excellent the lasagna in particular was delicious, plus the locals were all friendly. I would recommend phoning ahead and booking a table for anyone looking to visit!

We were made very welcome by the friendly staff. The food quality was first class. Tasty and really well presented. I had the pan fried chicken an excellent choice the pie looked and tssted good to. A different veg selection made it extra nice. Puds are good too. Also a good chpice of wine and gins.

Called in for a late lunch while house hunting in the area. Met with a smile a good pint and a menu. Only wanted a sandwich so settled for a brie and bacon baguette. Had a few of these recently in a few different places but none as tasty or as well presented. Judging from the food served to others I would have been more than pleased to have eaten from the full menu. I was looking forward to this becoming my local but the houses were not up to the standard of the pub!

I would thoroughly recommend this pub for the friendly welcome and good food. As mentioned in other reviews it has changed hands recently, but as we used to eat here before we thought we would give it a chance, and we were not disappointed. All the staff were helpful and friendly, the menu was varied and with specials available gave you plenty of choice. The restaurant was busy, but did not affect our overall experience of the night, and will definitely eat here again!

We went to this restaurant as we had been visiting it during the week of our holiday and they were very nice and friendly. So as a treat on our last night we went for a meal. I ordered the duck breast at £16.95 and my husband ordered the Sea bass, whilst my son just wanted a cheesy jacket potato. When our meal arrived my duck breast turned out to be 4 small slices of overcooked duck which when pushed together you could tell it was not a whole duck breast, it would of struggled to reach 2oz. This was served with wilted dry rocket and veg that smelt like it had been hanging around in the fridge for too long. I was appalled but as they were very busy I didn't want to make a scene. To be honest the people who ordered gammon or lamb shank looked like they received decent portions so suggest you stick to this. All I can say is this ruined our last nights holiday. My husband was going to have a quiet word when we paid but again the landlord was too busy and didn't even ask him about the meal. Such a shame. Chef let them down

Visited the Mason Arms on two occasions this week. Despite having changed hands since our visit last year the standards of high quality food and good service were the same. The menu was varied and I would thoroughly recommend the vegetable risotto - best ever!

We managed to get into the Bottom ship on Friday 14th December, we were glad to have our annual winter visit as the weir was having issues with electric and a new generator had been put in that morning. The foid we has was excellent the beer as normal presented well and the warmth from the establishment is always heart warming, thank you to the staff to the lovely lady who's name we didn't catch and louis who has been an asset to the pub for our visits for the last 4 years, long may you continue to honour the traditions of Exmoor

This is now called Exmoor fish and chips. Very clean and well run, girls wearing hairnets. Very quick service. The Boss had small cod, cooked fresh which she pronounced excellent. I had pie also very good. Shed load of really good chips. All in all a good chippie. I recommend them.

Thank you to Anya and Nicky for making us feel so welcome when we visited this evening. The food was delicious and the portions generous. The dog was welcome too. We'll be calling in again before too long. X
