The best restaurants serving British food in Tonbridge and Malling South East

I booked a bar table online intending to have a few cocktails and some sharing plates with my boyfriend just before Christmas. Unfortunately we didn't have a great experience, and it's nothing to do with the place itself (the decor is nicely done), the food (which I'd heard was really tasty) or the drinks....its all to do with the staff. Not one of them welcomed us, no-one smiled, no-one acknowledged us...one girl was so snooty and rude, I just couldn't believe it. Going out is expensive, and is a treat for many. If you're working in a service environment then you have to make your customers feel welcome and spoilt, otherwise they will go elsewhere. Don't make it feel like we're doing you a favour! We had 2 drinks and left without ordering food. A real shame as we were looking forward to it, but we went to Indi18 and had a lovely meal. Their staff cannot do enough for you. Perhaps the Verdigris staff should pop in and observe!

the bar staff are extremely rude and condescending for no reason, one of the drinks had limescale in the glass and we were refused a new glass while given awful attitude, wouldn’t come back

Absolutely lovely pub. We were walking around the area, popped in here, got some great lunch and drinks. Friendly and welcoming. Later I heard this is owned by the locals who all chipped in to make sure it stayed in their village. Well, they are doing a fabulous job.!

We went today having booked a quick lunch for two. Service brilliant. Food to match .we had two roasts both lovely and thankyou. I had been before and the food wasn't good,this was great .

Apart from the carpark puddles and certain types pushing in the queue for the carvery (rules don’t apply to all!), we still had a thoroughly wonderful time thanks to Charmaine, Scott and the dark haired ladies serving and on the bar. The food is great and good value but it is the team here who make this place so fab. Thank you again!

Well first time visiting the venue. On arriving it looked a lovely tranquil restaurant/pub. On entering we was welcomed like regulars the staff so so welcoming and friendly 😊 We arrived 20mins before our booking and was told we can sit down straight away fantastic. Drinks ordered bought to table within minutes. All the other customers looked comfortable and happy which shows how lovely it is. Our waitress wow she was absolutely 💯% lovely happy is if we knew her for years.. Now the food OMG out of this world . The Fish and chips WOW that's the best I've EVER HAD. MY wife had the mixed meat roast it also looked amazing The portion sizes was fantastic 👏. I'm pretty sure Gordon Ramsey was in the kitchen cooking it as it was that beautiful and VERY tasty. So on our experience it's DEFINITELY 💯% actually 110% worth the drive out to it. Which we will be again very very soon. Once again thanks to our lovely waitress ( on till receipt it said jamie torres ) Thank you once again x Also to all the staff

brilliant place come here for my brakes at college for a little snack and i could never complain i recommend the loaded chips for a quick snack

Top class food. Friendly staff. Great pub to visit.

This place has gone downhill rapidly, we (was) regulars to this pub, not anymore as it’s over run by dogs! And dog owners who let their dogs lick tables that are supposed to have food served them. The interior is terrible and tables are now all stick and furniture is older than my Nan ! This should be known as the ‘dog cafe. It isn’t clean & is in need of a good re-vamp. Shocking is putting it politely!

We are regulars at Basil - the food is good, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Can be expensive and the menu doesn’t change that often but overall lovely cafe.

I was attracted, first of all, by the aroma of freshly baked bread and decided to stop for a cup of coffee. The staff were very friendly and the coffee was very good. The seating was extremely comfortable and, although I did not try any of the snacks on offer, they did look delicious. Next time, I will try a snack.
