What an AWFUL experience. Was out for a walk on a Sunday with my family and dogs, and came across this pub, we walked in to an awful damp smell, but thought we would stay as there was seating outside, was greeted by whom seemed to be the landlord, what an unpleasant man he seemed, grunted at us as we walked in and seemed to busy talking to his locales, took 10 minutes before he would serve us our drinks. We ordered a couple beers and soft drinks, once we had settled down in the back garden, we noticed some of the beers we had ordered had gone flat, so went back to let him know, only to be told that there was nothing wrong with the beers and if we didn’t like it we knew where the door was. Also whilst sitting in the garden we saw TWO RATS!! After this we all got up to leave and tell the landlord which I believe his name was Ben, he told us not to be stupid and that we was seeing things. An awful awful experience all round, we will not be returning to this pub and in our advice we would recommend anyone else giving it a wide birth!

Travelled from afar to take an elderly mother out for a nice pub lunch. Booked in advance for 4. When we arrived we were told there was no chef that day and that there was a limited menu. Booked for 1pm food arrived at 2.40pm and the pies were still luke warm. They agreed food and service was not good and refunded 2 of the meals. Should not have taken the booking if there was no chef. Will not be going back.

We visited the Plough for Sunday lunch, over 20 of us in a walking group visiting for Sunday lunch. Ben the owner is a straight talking man who says it how he sees it. Don’t be put off by that at all, Ben wants everyone’s experience at the Plough to be perfect. We arrived as planned mob handed, the pub was warm and cosy and Ben and his staff gave us a warm welcome. Even though we all arrived together on mass we soon had a drink in our hand and we’re seated ready for lunch, which soon materialised. Everyone got what they had ordered including the vegetarians and vegan who were served up with Bens own recipe nut roast. The nut roast and all the other meals were plentiful and very cooked. Ben was continually asking if everyone was ok and enjoying the food. Thank you Ben and the team for such a lovely experience. Everyone left the pub with full bellies and a spring in our step. We will be returning again thats for sure.

The first thing to say is this pub is that is very much about word of mouth and the personalised touch, so don't be put off by the lack of online presence! I got the impression it was quite a "locals" pub but the lady working behind the bar and the landlord made us feel welcome. I was very impressed that despite the landlord being the only chef, the full menu was still available (there are more options than you can view online currently). There were pies, burgers, pizzas and fish on as it was a Friday. After we'd finished the pie we were asked if we would like dessert and were given 4 options. It is all cooked fresh to order so you do need to allow time but its worth it! I'm definitely going to book to try a Sunday roast this winter and hopefully the fire will roaring away next time. The only slight downside is the parking. There is room for about 8-10 cars in front of the pub, but you will either be blocked in or blocking someone in so need to be ready to move your car. The pub is at the top of a hill so although there are a few on road spaces, it is a bit challenging due to the mud and rocks at the side! I'm looking forward to visiting again.

We found this small traditional pub down the country lanes and were glad we did. The welcome from the Landlord was great and the food we had (it was a Friday and so fresh fish was on the menu) was well cooked and the portions did not leave you with much room for pudding...which we just about managed!! For those who like their beers there is a good choice of the less "standard" beers. I have always thought that a good indicator of a pub's standing is the state of the toilets and these were immaculate. Will definitely go back if we are in the area again.

A warm welcome and amazing home cooked food await you at The Plough. My husband stumbled across this gem of a pub while out on his motorbike one day and we both went to have lunch a week later. Everyone is so friendly and the Landlord, Ben, always comes out to welcome us. We've been several times now, even though we live 18 miles away! The food is superb. The fresh fish on a Friday is a must have. We suggested friends went there as they were looking to try somewhere different and they loved it too. You won't be disappointed.

Love this “proper pub”. We often make The Plough a midway stop on our dog walk from Ightham and the Landlord Ben is always very welcoming, taking his time to chat and give the dogs a treat. The food is traditional pub grub all cooked by Ben, portion sizes are huge and the food is always fresh and tasty. The chips are amazing! They have a great gin selection too and lots of local beers. The pub garden is lovely and the surrounding area is beautiful with lots of footpaths to explore.

We'd been for dinner previously - Michelin starred cuisine it is not - but good traditional food cooked well and amazing portions. We decided to return for Sunday Lunch as the landlord told us it was wonderful - and IT WAS! Massive plate, 5 veg, 5 or 6 roast potatoes, Yorkshire pud, and tons of meat - I had lamb and my family had pork (with great crackling). Massive gravy jug came along and - not seen this before - a gravy boat of cheese sauce to put over the veggies. Everything tasted lovely, was nice and hot and we were all stuffed at the end! 3 of us, a pint each and all for less than £50! I cannot recommend this place high enough (unless you're vegetarian and then there wasn't much to choose from on Sunday!) Landlord and waitresses were very friendly and efficient.

Dropped in for lunch on a circular walk from Borough Green. Had two pints of Tonbridge Rustic, which was well kept and very tasty, and a cheeseburger, which was really good and came with masses of chips and salad. There was a roaring open fire, which was most welcome as it was pretty cold outside. I'd say it is pretty much a local's pub, the landlord seemed to know everyone who came in apart from us, but he was really friendly and there wasn't that feeling that you aren't really welcome that you sometimes get in a pub like that. I'll definitely be visiting again.

My first visit to this pub in very many years and found it to still be a charming place to visit. Although a little off the beaten track the effort to get there was well worth it.Lunch was ordered and we were advised it takes a little longer to be served as all meals are cooked to order and the wait was worth it. The food as well prepared and portions excellent. A nice selection of beers available. The Landlord and others were friendly and welcoming and made our visit enjoyable. Been using this as my local for a few years now and I have to say that it is probably one of my favourite pubs of all time. They have an excellent range of beers wine and spirits, soft drink for the kids and dogs are welcome too. The food offered, while not Gastro standard is good and wholesome and good value for money. There is a large, well kept garden for those summer days and evenings, and a large roaring fire for the cold winter nights. But the reason I like the Plough is because of the people. The Landlord, Ben is a cheery Scottish fella that loves what he does and that shows through the other staff and the way the pub is presented. With no pool table, you don’t get any troublesome visitors. The pub does have an active darts and Bat & Trap team which seem to be fairly successful in their respective leagues. The clientele (posh word for this place) are all friendly, respectful people which goes a long way to making the friendly atmosphere you will find here. If there is a minor downside to this place, it’s with parking. This can be a problem at peak times but you can usually find a spot somewhere nearby. All in all this is a great spot for everyone.

This is what I believe a pub should be. This is not a gastro pub, no exotic designs, no worn out carpets . A simple clean well presented pub with a lovely garden and roaring fire in the winter. The food is simple well prepared and covers all the basics. Excellent steaks, pies and similar, all locally sourced and cooked to order. The Sunday Roast is always prepared on the day, rather than a re-heat which you find in so many pubs these days. The prices are not pretentious either.Ben, mine host is personable, charming and welcoming as are all the staff.Set in a quiet rural village it deserves to succeed.

Borough Green is really lacking a good pub so we had high expectations of The Plough. It's in pretty Basted Mills and has a small parking area outside - we went on a Friday lunchtime and it was virtually empty. Neither inside or out did it have a wow factor - it's a straightforward old fashioned pub that does need tarting up (although I appreciate they might not have the money to do that as it's a tough business to make any money in). It did have a roaring fire going and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had lunch and the chef gave me a couple of options I could have with my pasta which was helpful. When the food came it was very tasty - not gastropub food, just very decent pub grub at a good price. This place offers nice food and nice people, on that basis we will probably go back!

as being local to this area and after being told how good the steak and chips was I thought I would pop down with a mate have a few pints and steak and chips as its 2 for 1 on a weds night....right here we go....we turn up at 6 and order our drinks at the bar but the lady behind the bar is clearly new and a bit slow but that's just fine as shes a lovely lady who cant do enough for you and calls you by your name instead of sir or madam which was nice,so we go outside to drink our drinks in the sunshine, locals are all outside and very friendly and want to talk which was nice, then I go back in the pub and hear a lot of banging when the lady says its the chef just tenderising the steaks which is new to me as who wants to bash the hell out of a nice rib e or sirloin as you want it nice and thick don't you????..then the chef comes out and start swearing at the bar lady because she was a bit slow and there were people waiting for a drink but none of us minded waiting as could see that she was the only one working behind the bar and was the landlords fault for not getting more bar staff.so we order our steaks and she asks how we would like them ,medium rare and medium please, well when they came out I understand why there was so much banging going on as theses steaks are about 8 millimetres thick I swear and they come out over well done so my guessing is that he gets one steak and cuts it in half and bashers the life out, I just started laughing when I saw it, I know you get what you pay for but please I would much rather pay 20pound for a good steak than to have this muck served up to me, the best thing were the onion rings.so please don't go here for the steak on a weds if you like your steak, you have been warned. I should of complained but when the chef (ben I think his name is) when he came over and asked if every thing was ok but if he cant see what his dishing out is crap theres know hope and pointless saying anything...I know some people on here say there steaks are good but belivie me on a weds night there shocking and it wasn't just mine as everyone came out like mine, would of gave 1 star but the bar lady was lovely and the beer and cider is nice.

This is an out-of-the-way local pub on a very minor road. I've not eaten here but they do simple pub food most lunchtimes and evenings, in particular fish and chips on Fridays and roasts on Sunday. The premises were completely refurbished less than a year ago following the death of the previous tenant. Key thing about this place is that it's a genuine local "old-fashioned" pub - with friendly locals and a surprisingly large range of real ales. SIX on today! That's amazing for a small local! Harveys, Whitstable Brewery (2) and various Cornish breweries (3). This place could so easily have closed - it deserves support from all genuine pub-lovers!!!

I visited this pub today after hearing from a friend that it had reopened. We arrived just as the lunchtime kitchen was closing but were told that they would reopen for us. We were made very welcome and all ordered fish and chips. The chips were home made (very unusual in these days of bought-in fare) and the fish was fresh, not frozen. Everything was freshly cooked and nicely presented with generous portions. The waitress/barmaid was delightful and the locals friendly. The background music pop oldies were well received by our middle-aged group and the volume was just right. There was a good selection of real ales and we had the Whitstable Brewery's "Native" which was well-kept and very enjoyable. I do hope that more people give this reopened pub a try with its new management.

Absolutely the least welcoming landlord in the area...personality minus....the long awaited re-opening of this country pub has disappointed many local residents with several dishes on the Menu being 'Sold Out' before one has a chance to peruse.
