Used to be the best All Day Breakfast in Surrey. What happened - dried up bacon impossible to cut with the plastic cutlery. Raw tomato, luke warm beans and rubbery scrambled egg, all served on a cold plate. Tasteless tea served in a paper cup. Tables and floor in need of cleaning too. Not a good experience. Staff were pleasant and helpful though.

I understand that kitchens can be overwhelmed during busy periods but as an establishment within a popular attraction you have had much experience of planning for situations like these. We ordered a margarita pizza and waited for an hour to get it. And this when the restaurant was not even half full. During ordering we were advised that the food has a 30 min wait. After 50 mins when we enquired we were told it’s almost ready. And then we waited for another 15 mins at the counter. We saw people cancelling their orders and walking away due to the awfully long wait. Terrible experience in an otherwise good day at the gardens.

My daughter and I were gifted afternoon tea as birthday presents, and what a treat it was. The service was prompt, and attentive, and the food was delicious. Finger sandwiches, mini pastries, assorted scones and a range of cakes was washed down with unlimited tea, all perfectly prepared. Brasserie ABode is in a super location, in the heart of Canterbury, and the whole experience was absolutely splendid.

Well, where to start? We were shown to our table, walking through a restaurant where nearly all the tables were dirty, not to mention the state of the floor. It was a nice touch to have a kids' menu with activities, but they had run out of pencils! It took a while for someone to take our order, though it seemed there was only one person doing so. When we got the food, the kids' pizza was burned, and it came with a pizza slicer. Not sure who thought giving a pizza slicer to a child was a good idea! The burgers were very greasy and full of gristle. The worst was the fish finger sandwich: three tiny pieces of fish, mostly batter, overcooked and dry, with no tartare sauce as listed on the menu. No condiments were offered, and there was no one around to ask or check on us. It was nearly impossible to ask for or receive the bill. My partner stood for a good 10 minutes trying to get someone's attention. He asked the younger staff members three times, and though the hostess walked past him, she didn’t even acknowledge him. When he finally managed to ask her for the bill, she said she was on it, but it never materialized. We then went to the bar, and what a palaver! They expected us to pay without even seeing the bill. We had to ask for a physical copy twice. As I suspected, we were charged for an item we didn’t receive, though it was eventually removed. Overall, it just wasn’t worth the price we paid.

Visited with family for lunch and found it odd the whole place was empty! Our food arrived was put on the table and barman just walked off! The chicken in the curry was so dry and over heated you couldn’t get a fork into it and the curry had a dry layer resting on the top. The steak was so full of fat running through, definitely not a sirloin, it should not have been served. Onion rings were yellow, looked like a tandoori batter mix, tasted of nothing and had oil dripping from. The chips were anaemic and slightly under cooked. Steak pie was the smallest portion with 2 pieces of steak and the gravy was congealed from the microwave! No care when collecting our plates to ask how it was and had the cheek to charge for drinks that were not ordered. This is why the place was empty!!

I sat in the upstairs cafe to do work and ordered a large cinnamon bun latte. The price was really good (£3.60), the service was quick and very friendly and the drink was lovely. The cafe was constantly being cleaned and it was a lovely environment to work in :)

Dropped by for a coffee last week. The service was okay though the coffee was nothing to write home about. The first time I tapped my bank card the assistant said it hadn't worked, so I inserted the card and tried again. Checking my statement a few days later I found I'd been charged twice. So instead of £2.50, the coffee cost me £5.00. I've been in touch with the café several times, but had no response. I hope this isn't happening to everyone!

Mariam is so helpful. Although being very busy she will always give you her time. She has been invaluable to my wife and I. In the restaurant, Nicky has a lovely way about her. Jodie & Claire will always give you they're time and James is very helpful and hard working. Unfortunately, cleanliness is still an issue. We could feel bits on the knife. The tea spoon had food on it. This really put us off of our scone which didn't look very scone like. I also think the scones have shrunk. Great staff make for a pleasant experience (Shame about the cutlery).

We went in for a cup of tea at this self-service cafe. The service was slow because a new member of staff was being trained but not properly guided or supervised. We then looked for a table. The cafe was less than a quarter full but there was not one clear table to sit at! There were no clearing staff in sight so we cleared a table for ourselves, but of course we could not wipe it down. About 10 minutes later a member of staff appeared, surveyed the tables and left without taking a single item with them. Shortly after another member of staff appeared and cleared one table (one down only forty left) and took a full tray out. Two minutes later she came back and started on the next table. Then the first member of staff came back and started remonstrating with the one clearing the table. She then went off and the table clearer took a second tray out. At this rate she was never going to clear all the tables as new ones were being created quicker that she could deal with them. A bit of common sense is required: use a trolley so that several tables can be cleared at a time.
