The Boathouse Cafe in Fareham

I visited here with my wife and found the staff very friendly and accommodating, but sadly the food was very basic and poor value. £15 for a burger and fries was poor. The burger had a single leaf of lettuce and two slices of tomato and that was it, no sauce, no cheese! It was like there was virtually no effort made to enhance the burger in any way which was disappointing! Expensive prices for low quality food!

Spent the morning helping a friend get his boat out of the water - by 12 mid-day was well ready for a late brunch and we called in at the Boat House café. The café is being rebuilt so they are temporarily housed in a structure somewhat better than a marquee, so this has to be taken into consideration, but - despite it being a pretty breezy day to the point where we thought the boat lift out might have been cancelled - the café was warm and comfortable, and has an interesting view across the marina to the Jolly Sailor and Elephant Boatyard (where the TV series Howards Way was filmed in the late 80's). For my brunch, I chose the Skillet English Breakfast accompanied with a slice of lightly-toasted sourdough (I think). Now be warned - the skillet will be hot! However, the dish was beautifully presented and excellently cooked. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and I'm still talking about it! A small gripe - it shouldn't be 'tomatoes' because there was only one half tomato and it shouldn't be 'mushrooms' because there was only one mushroom. However, for £10, it was a good meal. Decent cuppa too,but I was a bit surprised that the milk for the cuppa was a billed item but I wasn't paying so didn't see the bill. The service was notable - the young ladies were on the ball and did a brilliant job. A generous tip was given because it was deserved. My standard marking scheme is: Food - one tick because it was really nice, well-presented and generally delicious Service - one tick because they earned it Environment - I'll give them a tick but this place will only be in use for another couple of months Value - I've had breakfasts other places that weren't as clean, didn't have the view and weren't as comfortable and had to pay as much, so tick for that Would I Recommend/Go There Again - yes and yes, so fifth tick! If you have a problem with your food and don't tell the staff, you won't get it resolved. I have only once ever been in a situation where I complained and the problem wasn't sorted, so give them a chance!

Sadly this has been demolished and a pop up in its place. The coffee was delicious however the food was tasteless and dry (breakfast baps) had to ask for butter as soo dry. When mentioned, having left half the food, we were presented with a bill for £19 for 2 dry rolls and 2 coffee and a 12.5% tip. Will not be returning and would not recommend.

Popped in for a light lunch with my partner, parents and our dog. My step dad is in a wheelchair but we had no issue getting him in and finding a table to accommodate him. Waiting staff were attentive without being over the top. The food was delicious, I had the wild mushroom sandwich and I'd be hard pushed to say I'd had a better sandwich in years. My parents had the soup which was flavourful and the perfect size for lunch and my partner had egg mayo sandwich which was also great. It is a pop up cafe so a temporary structure while the permanent cafe is being built, which makes the food all the more impressive. We moor our boat locally and will definitely be dropping in again.

This cafe is now in a wind battered tent next to the marina . On a windy day the background music doesn’t hide the constant flapping of the fabric . So why would anyone chose to eat here? The food? No way . I ordered the wrap and fries . The wrap was cold and fries soggy . When I complained the Magee just laughed . Do not go here at any cost . It’s a complete rip off

Booked an afternoon tea for me and my partner. Arrived and we requested indoor seating as it was super hot. (Sorry review is a little late)! Sat down and were given menus I explained we had afternoon tea booked, with that we were offered our drinks (these were constantly filled up) and out came the sandwiches and cakes - all very enjoyable. It’s right in the marina and outdoors there is loads of seating for soaking up the sunshine or even a cooler day a coffee. This place is ideal for stopping for a cheeky drink whilst walking along the route down to Warsash, or the other way to Bursledon. Worth a stop ✅

We had booked afternoon tea for 3, as a birthday treat. Staff didn't seem bothered to serve us the whole time, and food was below standard even for a simple tea. Sandwiches were different from menu, which they did say it may be...but piccalilli was so sharp it turned your stomach. The cakes had come from a Kiplings packet and were awful, they should feel ashamed. We had to go to the bar to pay and gave feedback on food, when we did get a discount, where they explained it was being bulldozed following day and re-opened March, so stick had run down. Don't take booking if you can't stock the food!! Ended up with heartburn all night afterwards!!

We were a group of five celebrating a birthday. First of all I will mention the parking; there's not much parking and you're restricted to two hours. The food was hit and miss: pizzas we're very poor, with hardly any toppings. Mussels were overcooked and shrivelled. Bubble & Squeak and Fish & Chips were good. Service was really poor!! We had to go and find a waitress every time we wanted to order drinks, and we were left sitting for ages before our food orders were taken. They spent most of their time standing behind the pillars chatting. The final insult was the 12.5% service charge they had decided to award themselves! Not only was the self-awarded tip extremely impertinent, but the service was so poor it didn't warrant any tip!

Came for Brunch on a not so busy Saturday. Young rude staff with zero interest to serve. Went up to order food as we were sat outside, and the girl that served me was not happy to be working at all... I asked for the fish sandwich with no tartar but Mayo and it was a straight no. Not I will ask the chef or see what I can do for you, just a no. Very odd... We then get our food and it was "there is your food and cutlery is over there" as she points near the door as she walks away. Hugely over priced for not that impressive food and rude, poor service. Real shame as it has potential with a lovely location, guess that's all you're paying for.

This place was a joke it deserves 0 stars, overpriced, clueless youth serving, poorly cooked breakfast and all for a premium just because it's at a Marina. This is a rob the wealthy with minimal effort exercise and I'm surprised it's got the stars it has. I've had far better experiences at a greasy spoon in a service station. The only positive is the ingredients were mildly better than taking a shop at lidl for a hangover breakfast.

This was our second visit in as many weeks and what a treat! Food is outstanding, views are great and the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. We had our sausage dog with us and the waiting staff were so kind and friendly to him, ensuring he had enough water and the occasional cuddle. This is definitely one of our favourite places to go.

Poor service, unprofessional staff, over priced food and drinks. Shame really as local residents we were looking for a good breakfast spot- obviously will not be returning.

My girlfriend and I visited in August for lunch, and I ordered a lamb and Harissa salad wrap along with salt and pepper spice chips. My girlfriend ordered the smoked trout poke bowl and annoyingly her plate of food was absolutely stunning! Don’t get me wrong. My food was tasty enough, however a little on the driver-side where is every element of hers and I tasted it all was really nice! if I come back again, I would definitely having that. Service was pleasant and came out quickly and the location of views were very nice. I only complaint as a cider drinker is that the two apple ciders they had on the menu were not available, leaving a rose French cider. I was the only option. Other than that, no complaints!

So we popped in to The Boat House on bank holiday Monday for a late breakfast, to be honest we made a massive mistake. We sat outside on one of the three available tables. All three tables were covered in used crockery, glasses and discarded...

Totalmente decepcionado con el Boathouse después de nuestra visita para el brunch.Reservamos una mesa para el brunch y llegamos a tiempo. Mostrado en una mesa por un servidor muy abrupto. Esperamos 25 minutos para que nos tomaran el pedido de bebidas. Luego fui y encontré un servidor que tomó nuestro pedido de mal humor.Esperamos 20 minutos más para nuestras bebidas. Agarrando otro servidor para obtener agua a 30 grados de calor.Luego fuimos a perseguir nuestras bebidas, estas tardaron 10 minutos en llegar. Its a very nice bar and outside dining by the water, the downside is that the food is all pretty average but ok, good fish finget sandwich. Well worth a visit on a nice day.

Nos reunimos aquí con amigos antes de un viaje al Salón Náutico de Southampton. Deben haber estado ocupados (aunque no cuando estuvimos allí) porque las mesas no estaban despejadas y el lugar era un desastre. Pedimos el desayuno. Identificaron incorrectamente el desayuno sin gluten, la presentación fue pobre y no había tocino en otro. ¡El pedido de bebidas llegó dos veces!Pasamos bastante tiempo en Bursledon, pero no volveré a ser tentado. Es una pena, ya que está en marcado contraste con el Boathouse en Chichester Marina.

Fui a almorzar con la familia. Nos sentamos y pedimos bastante rápido, pero luego tuvimos que esperar 40 minutos para que apareciera cualquier comida, lo cual es bastante tiempo en un café cuando tienes un niño de 3 años contigo. Not a very extensive menu but there was a good enough choice to be had. Food took a while and it was very quiet at the time of my visit but it was worth the wait as it was piping hot and very tasty. Certainly wasn't frozen / pre prepared nonsense !

Visité recientemente para el desayuno. Buena elección en el menú para el desayuno y el brunch. El aguacate aplastado y el huevo escalfado en la masa fermentada eran buenos, aunque un poco decepcionados porque el pan no era masa fermentada y era un trozo bastante pequeño. Aunque sabía muy bien. Compota de bayas / fruta y granola era agradable. Conseguimos bebidas rápidamente pero tuvimos que esperar una edad para la comida y no estaban tan ocupados. Hemos estado aquí muchas veces, la comida suele ser buena y el servicio es bueno, aunque a veces es un poco lento para conseguir comida a veces. Sin duda lo recomiendo si no le importa esperar un poco y siempre hay muchos asientos dentro y fuera. También hacen un buen té de la tarde.

Seis de nosotros nos reunimos para el brunch del domingo. Miró las ofertas en el mostrador de delicatessen y parecía prometedor. Sin embargo, tardó una eternidad en ser servido. ¡Y lo que salió fue decepcionante! Las envolturas no se parecían a lo que había en el mostrador. El cordero con especias estaba cocinado y seco. Las papas de la chaqueta eran tan pequeñas, que todos necesitábamos postres! El personal era agradable, aunque un poco tonto. ¡Dos veces tuvimos que pedir una jarra de agua y dos veces fue llevada a la mesa equivocada! El encaje tenía un buen zumbido, lástima que todos estuvimos decepcionados con la comida!

Esta fue una visita voladora y no planificada. El aparcamiento era atroz y no era bueno para un coche más grande. Como el clima fuera asqueroso, nos sentamos en el interior con el perro, con lo que estaban bien. Muy agradables, pero necesitan algunos sofás nuevos para que tus rodillas no estén alineadas con tu cabeza cuando te sientas. Pedimos un sándwich Boathouse CLUB, Ale Battered Haddock Bap, calamares y batatas fritas. La comida estaba bien. Los calamares estaban un poco empapados, ¿salidos del congelador quizás? El tocino era muy salado, así que la mayoría quedó. Bonito paisaje aunque lo compensó.

Cold evening in January; 4 of us visited and had delicious food, good drinks (sadly out of cider on tap though) and friendly,helpful staff. Great veggie and vegan options in this visit and previous brunch ones

Great café on a sunny day to sit outside.Great atmosphere inside as well ,with tables overlooking the Marina..Very young staff with luck of experience,but the main negative is that there are too many dogs and as some of the tables are short there was dog hair all over my food.Will not return.

So went here for a nice evening, i am not adventurous with food, and not a lover of set menus, however, this food was excellent, really good mix of flavours and i was really impressed. Great service from staff during the meal, however once the food was eaten, were forgotten about, not offered coffees, and had to go to the till to get the bills. Buck up guys, this should be a 5/5, but you let yourselves down at the final hurdle.

We've eaten here for lunch and dinner, but the last time we came the burgers were particularly good. The only only flaw is that you have to order at the bar. Generally though lovely and friendly staff.

A lovely spot for a break, albeit for a cup of tea or a meal and in a great location, shame they put the biggest plastic white boats in front of the outdoor veranda overlooking the marina.

Visitamos regularmente para el brunch y nos encanta sentarnos junto al agua. Las opciones de brunch son geniales y me encantan los huevos ranchros! Disfrutamos del desayuno con la familia aquí. El entorno es genial en el medio de la marina. Hay asientos al aire libre para disfrutar en un día soleado. La decoración está en consonancia con sus otros lugares (NO 5 Winchester, White Horse Otterbourne, etc.) 9. 50 para un desayuno inglés es un poco caro. 3. 50 para el servicio de tostadas y mermeladas (eso es un poco de margen) es mucho mejor y más amigable que el Caballo Blanco. Hay estacionamiento en el lugar y los niños están bien atendidos. Definitivamente el mejor lugar para desayunar en la zona.

El único vino disponible era rojo, blanco o rosa. El personal no tenía conocimiento de qué vino se vendía y, después de preguntar por Rose, no lo tenían porque había estado ocupado. 10 minutos más tarde el gerente pasó junto a nosotros con dos botellas de rosa que estaban disponibles para la mesa al lado de nosotros. Entonces, ¿la mesera le ofreció a otra mesa dos tipos de rojo diferentes? ¿Por qué no se nos ofreció este servicio? Después de esperar 15 minutos para tomar unas copas tuvimos que pedirle agua a la mesa a varias personas. Después de 45 minutos de espera para nuestros entrantes, tuvimos suficiente. Sin explicación, la mesera apareció y actuó como si recién les hubiéramos pedido. Mains tomó otros 45 minutos, y uno de ellos no fue tan ordenado, por lo que un miembro de nuestro grupo se fue sin comer. No se ofrecen alternativas ni menús de postres. Sin remordimientos del gerente cuando finalmente apareció para hablar con nosotros una vez que tuvimos que preguntar

Located in Swanwick Marina this eatery delivers decent food and a nice atmosphere. However, they do need to invest in a decent coffee machine, tepid is the best way to describe it. Seating is available both indoors and outdoors, overlooking the yacht and gin palace moorings. A nice place to sit and dream.

I needed somewhere to sit in warm dry , get something to eat and do some administration!

We like this location on a sunny day great to sit outside. There are table overlooking the Marina. Good to take Dog here as you can sit outside or inside. The food here has a lot to be desired and could be improved though we have eaten in the restaurant but in the bar. But it’s the same food menu. Also there can be problems when it’s busy getting a drink at the bar or ordering food at the bar. We had a good trip me there recently when we called in and there was a tribute band Forever Queen (excellent). I’ve give in a 3 because it’s always a favourite to go for an early drink but I always feel there is something lacking. I’d say there is no feeling of ownership there. It’s part of a small chain and if you are the owner reading this if you can sort out the issues at the bar and have a member of staff who welcomes patrons this would go a long way to making it a special place. Also some background music would be nice.

Impromptu visit to Southampton came across this lovely cafe bar. Amazing all day breakfast. Bar man was very uninterested but food was lovely...

My husband and I had a very enjoyable full English breakfast at The Boathouse. Everything was tasty and well presented. The atmosphere was very nice until a couple came in with their two dogs, which became very excitable and barked a lot. To their credit, they didn't stay long but this could have spoiled our morning. More dogs came in, it is obviously a regular stopping off point for dog walkers, so if you don't like dogs, then this isn't the place for you. The restaurant is in a lovely location overlooking Swanwick Marina so there is always something to look at. Lovely in the summer, when you can sit outside.

Being lovers of a good English Breakfast on a weekend, we have any number of 'favourites' but it's always good to see what else is open and serving locally. The Boathouse came recommended but, unfortunately, failed to impress. In their defence, I can only write about their breakfasts, and other meals and offerings may be quite different.

I’ve seen this beautifully located bar/restaurant change owners/names several times over the years and team Boathouse are killing it! My brother’s recently moved to Swanwick and so this is now something of a local for him. And hopefully for me too! Lovely relaxed service, one...

We have always had a good experience at the Boathouse cafe and even attended there after a bad experience somewhere else, not to be disappointed. The waiter who brought the food was very polite and friendly and the sandwiches are tasty. Wouldn't hesitate to return.

Visited with Family for Breakfast, Ordered 4 Breakfasts 1 tea 3 Coffee's should be straight forward. Was informed this would be app 30 as they were busy. No problem with that, Shame the drinks arrived after 5 min- One Breakfast arrived after 1 hour 15 min !

Mi esposa y yo fuimos una mañana de sábado para el desayuno. Se ofrecieron sin gluten desayunos, que era una de las principales razones por las que visitamos. La comida era excelente, el servicio era fantástico y las vistas eran increíbles. Recomiendo encarecidamente este lugar y volveré pronto!

Este lugar es uno de nuestros pubs locales situado en uno de los mejores lugares. En un día soleado es el lugar perfecto para estar pero. . . Recientemente. visitamos uno viernes tarde se habían quedado sin vino rosado. Cuando pregunté por qué habían sido ocupados en el fin de semana! ! !

No empezar a servir comida temprano, así que tuvimos que tener un par de tazas de té antes de que nos dejaron a la orden. Podrían haber tomado nuestro pedido antes, y no insistió en que no a cocinar hasta el tiempo estipulado, dice, pero el personal era educado, así que resultaba un ordenador poco'. Las reglas son las reglas, y su horario de apertura estaban claramente en varios lugares.

Visité de nuevo la esperanza de un día soleado y una mejor experiencia y no me decepcionó. Pudimos sentarnos en el suelo por fabulosos yates. El servicio fue muy amable y cálida. La comida era deliciosa. Un agradable par de horas. Sin duda volveremos.

Being half term I decided to take my girls for a treat and have breakfast at The Boathouse......wow!!!! The food was amazing. The chef Christian is by far the best bacon and sausage butty maker by far!!!! The waitresses were really helpful and very kind to my girls. Thank you for our delicious brekkie and we will definitely be visiting again soon.

I've been here several times in the past for drinks with friends on the weekend, for which I would recommend the place. However, Boyfriend and I went here for a midweek dinner as it had just had some works done to it so thought we'd test it out after it reopened. We shared some crispy squid to start, served with aioli which was really delicious. He then ordered the steak which looked pretty tasty but I had a hankering for the pork belly. The pork belly itself was really good but wasn't quite the texture I was expecting. It was served with kale and an excessive amount of polenta mash which I was nowhere near to finishing. It was good, if not slightly under-seasoned, but probably twice as much as was necessary was put on the plate. Boyfriend liked his steak but wasn't impressed with the choice of sauces. I'm afraid I can't remember the names of the sauces but one was spicy and one was essentially butter. Him not being a fan of spice went for the butter and was left underwhelmed. Needs to have peppercorn/bearnaise/blue cheese option or something. Anyway, food was alright generally but could be better. Upside is that dogs are allowed

I visited for lunch midweek and the cafe was quite empty and lacking atmosphere. I think in the summer it would be very different. There wasn't much menu choice for me but I saw the sandwich bar after ordering. This would definitely be my option if I went again and the fillings looked really fresh. The decor is quite basic but suits its location. Service was good and what I did eat was very nice.

The location of the Boathouse is lovely and we visited on a sunny Saturday for a late lunchtime snack. Unfortunately the service is poor and very slow. We waited nearly an hour for our simple order to arrive. I would visit for a drink but certainly won't rush back for a meal.

Having visited three other locations in the Ideal Collection, I had been looking forward to visiting the Boathouse Cafe for a while, especially as it's just down the road from me. I decided to give the breakfast a go, but frankly I left disappointed. I had hoped that the quality of the other locations would be a good indicator, but it wasn't. The coffee seemed to be from a machine and had an odd aftertaste. I went for the Boathouse English Breakfast, and while it was a decent portion, it was nothing special.

After an early morning shopping trip we decided to visit the Boathouse for a late breakfast today. The venue is warm and welcoming and the menu is great for me as someone who is gluten intolerant. The Boathouse makes a genuine effort to be inclusive and they have a gluten free breakfast option on the menu which makes such a change for me who usually has to adopt a 'pick & mix' approach with regular menus and appear to be a fussy eater.The service is exemplary and the food quality is great - I had a full plate of food which didn't lack flavour or quality even if it lacked gluten! My family chose regular breakfast products which were of equal quality and we all enjoyed our pit stop after our shopping trip. It should be mentioned that the Boathouse offers gluten free options throughout their menu and their carrot cake is delicious, it makes a refreshing change to have a genuine choice of food options when I have to follow a restricted diet. We will return to the Boathouse and definitely recommend it as a place to visit

Visited today for lunch with a friend.The jacket potatoes were reasonably priced and well filled and hot. The waiters were helpful and speedy. The coffee was hot and okayish. The bright atmosphere and cleanliness of the cafe were relaxing.Will go again for a light bite.

After all the adverse comments on Trip Advisor we were pleasantly surprised. Two of us had a fresh mackerel from the specials board, one a beef burger and the other a sandwich. The mackerel was delicious with salad and potatoes. My friend said his beef burger was good too. We had a young waitress to serve us and that was speedy and helpful in making choices. The older waitress was not so helpful (owner?) saying "come to counter to order " whereas the young waitress took our orders for drinks as well as food and delivered everything to the table. The mackerel was priced at £13 which I thought was reasonable. We split the bill between the two couples that came to £80 with tip, and deserts and drinks. A pleasant lunch.

Had a business breakfast here in a fairly empty cafe. I think thats because despite the food being good it was overpriced by a fair amount. Also the coffee was machine coffee and not to the standard we've all come to expect these days. All in all, I probably won't go back because of these things. Shame, because the setting was really good and the premises was stylish and clean.

Us girlies went for a quiet drink and a bite to eat on a Thursday night. I love pizza and am a bit fussy with it. I chose the farmyard pizza. It was IMMENSE! I have been dreaming of it ever since, can't wait to go back! My friend had the steak, said it was perfect, my veggie friend had the halloumi burger (she enjoyed it). We then decided we would share 2 desserts between the three of us. I wish we had one each. Not because it was small, just because it was delicious. I will definitely be going again, and conveniently for me... it is on my way home

It took us 45 mins to order 4 coffees receive 3 and get a refund for the decaff coffee that they could not provide. I could excuse them if they were busy but they were not

Nice place and nice location. Staff were nice and friendly. However the barman wasn't sure if the beer was ok or not amidst it being cloudy. I was able to put his mind to rest. Also I think £12.50 for a burger and chips is overpriced for what it is. Add some salad please. This would make it a bit more appealing!

Evening do with a live band, most of the venue used for the party but one section maintained for restaurant reservations ? Band booked separately and these were good. Drinks ok and buffet was different but good, nice venue

The basics of hospitality service were so far from met. They have friendly staff but it's just a disorganised establishment throughout- our food, which was charged at a premium price, arrived at lengthy intervals and when we finally got served at the bar, the glass was badly chipped. They replaced it but the principle remains; this place has great potential but it's not even nearly fulfilling it.

Visited for breakfast. The only positive thing about this place is the setting down on the water. Service was absolutely awful. We ordered coffees which never appeared. After 30 minutes and asking three separate members of staff they eventually turned up. It wasn't worth the wait. Food was stone cold. Avoid.

Wouldn't cross the road for the coffee or the service - just a push button machine, overpriced for the results

Myself and my partner went for breakfast here and we're left really disappointed. Slow uninterested staff, who got the order wrong twice and we were eventually left with two luke warm undercooked meals. Lots of staff standing around gazing into thin air not serving customers, felt like we were a hinderence, won't be returning here.

Food is bad, service is bad, tables always feel sticky, always congested at the bar in the place where customers have to get through to try and order drinks. Don't get me started on the toilet! The location is lovely being right on the marina but that is the only plus about this place and I suspect is the only reason they get away with such awful standards. We might go in there for a drink on a summers evening but that's it. We (and there are quite a few of us) will never order food in there again...it's truly grim. This location is worthy of a much better run establishment. Wish they'd take the many complaints they get seriously but as they have a captive audience being where they are, I guess they feel they don't need to bother. A real shame.

Friendly efficient service. Warm & welcoming surroundings. Good value food. Will go back when next in the area. A great place to meet friends or family with adjacent parking & views over Swanick Marina.

We eat here regularly for breakfast and occasional lunch, great location, good value and friendly staff!

Informal Eating and Drinking Establisment by the Waterside......lovely Atmosphere always busy with Yachties and Locals.....good Food & Drink in a very relaxed setting

The food is very disappointing for the money due to portion sizes&general lack of presentation&was cold when finally served. The staff,well she seemed more interested in chatting up&flirting with the local tradesman that are obviously regulars than serving new customers that could have been potential new regulars as we have just got a boat on the marina. Will not be returning which is a shame as the location would be lovely in the summer. The toilets are pretty disgusting too and need a revamp along with the female behind the bar who was not in the uniform the other staff were wearing and looked quite unkempt. Are staff allowed to take their pets to work as well as seems to be the case...seems a little unprofesional and that poor dog.

As it was such a lovely day a friend and I decided to go to the boathouse for lunch. It was busy ish but no more than should be usual on a good day. We waited for at least half an hour for 2 sandwiches which were rather disappointing. The bread was very dry, it had probably been left uncovered for some time. The coronation chicken had very little if any chicken in it. Gave 3 stars for the surroundings not the food. Won't be going back anytime soon.

Lovely spot, very nice food and wonderful staff. Had dinner here last night and gave come back for brekkers. Need I say more?

We had a really nice light lunch at The Boathouse Cafe, Swanwick Marina, Southampton, earlier today. I don't normally leave reviews, but really feel it's appropriate for today. The food was fab and our waitress, I think her name was Amelia, was excellent, very bubbly and attentive, a real credit to the cafe. We'll certainly return again.

Hidden in the heart of the marina, this little cafe has a great selection to choose from....friendly staff and tasty food! I recommend the steak burger, will be coming back to try the afternoon tea very soon.

Had afternoon tea at the boathouse marina cafe. Oh Dear! Positives are the quality of the food is of a high standard and its is not too badly priced. However, is it a cafe, if it is it should not charge the prices and try and serve top end food. Is it a restaurant, then it shouldn't run as a pub. It employs cafe staff, don't get me wrong, one or two have good service skills, others however think they are hanging out with their mates. They try and cater for the owners for the £4 million boats but expect them to seat surrounded by guys in wet waders and covered in engine oil. The tables are sticky due to poor cleaning standards and chemical residue from not washing them down.Some aspects are nice, but as a whole it does not work. A shame it could be great

We have eaten here 3 days a week for the last 8 weeks for breakfast and they are alwas the nicest cooked breakfast in the local area.Although some of the bar staff could do with some refinement and be a bit friendlier, the food is great.

Pasta arrabatia with chorizo was £10.50 and could only have been 25g of pasta. Tasty enough but one thin layer not enough to leave me feeling satisfied, would be no good for a man! My daughter had fish and chips, looked fine but again very small portion of chips. Hubby had burger he said was very tasty but his onion rings were completely overlooked and very greasy. Table was so sticky you could not touch bit, the place really could benefit from a good clean. This place could be a gold mine but misses the point completely. Av real shame.

This location has to be one of the best locations around the Hamble river.It is within Swanwick Marina with great views and a sunny aspect.If only this cafe/restaurant was professionally managed it would be so successful.Staff are generally good and keen but need guidance. Food is reasonably basic but at reasonable prices, except £10 for a very poor Tomato and Mozzarella salad that was lacking content and was no more than a side dish! Often tables are left uncleared after diners have gone.Could be so good!

We came for lunch on Saturday, we are a member of the loyalty club so thought we would give it a try. First impressions were great, the look and feel of this cafe is lovely, very rustic and cosy. We ordered some food and were advised of a 40 minute wait, it was not busy but we were happy to wait with a drink. The starters were fantastic, I had duck pate and my husband has soup. The mains were not so great. The club sandwich was tiny, I am sure a club sandwich should have three layers of toasted bread. This was just two pieces of toast with tomato, bacon and mayo. I ordered the quiche, it came out stone cold with the smallest bit of salad. I asked for it to be heated and it returned still as cold as it left. Overall the food would not have put us off returning again but the service certainly will. Our waitress did not say a word, we had to request cutlery and ask for sauces. She was so silent that it was almost odd. My salad fell off the plate of my starter and she didn't even acknowledge it. Average food and poor service although I really think that this place has potential!

Very much enjoyed a sunny al fresco lunch at The Boathouse Cafe, overlooking the marina at Swanwick. Service was excellent, friendly and efficient staff. Food was very tasty, cooked well and there was plenty of choice available. We'll definitely return.

We were a group of 10/12 for lunch. waited 90 minutes for food, We were one of about 5 tables (the other tables we of 2 -3 people). Food was low quality, cold and tasteless. 2 dishes removed from bill. They kept coming over to sell us more drinks. No word of apology, manager absent. Told us they were very busy......... restaurant was empty when our food arrived! All in all very bad - AVOID!

A group from work came here from some Christmas drinks following a long day at work.Really enjoyed.

Spent a gorgeous sunny afternoon laughing, relaxing, overlooking the marina with delicious cocktails. All fine as the tea drinkers left and the beer drinkers arrived. Our peace was spoilt, by the braying, endless discussions about boat prices, car prices and adventure at sea, (Haw, Haw Haw!)

I visited the boathouse cafe for the first time the other day, and the service was absolutely fantastic! Staff was very friendly and welcoming! Also the bar staff was very helpful, especially Karl who recommended some drinks for myself and my family! Overall my experience was brilliant!

Went this afternoon. Lovely location but when I went to pay the bar tender tried to overcharge me. The price on the till did not equal the price on the menu. Had a panini £5 for something small with hardly any filling and not even a side dressing. Disappointing. Try the Jolly Sailor around the corner. Much better!

Well, disappointed!! Thought that a cafe amongst the marina would be lovely but never expected such a rude manageress! Abrupt and very unwelcoming. Have never been served like this anywhere else we have been. Such a shame but not going back again!

We booked into the restaurant & when we turned up found the room only had one other table in use. Meal spoiled by very loud people in bar. We ordered set meal with two starters but only one was served & we had to wait for second We then waited around 30 minutes for the main course which was not as expected.As there were only two couples in the restaurant the waitress went off to serve in the bar & we had trouble getting extra drinks The main meals servered seemed to be hamburgers & pizzas don't bother unlees you want these

The Boathouse Cafe is now a regular place for me to meet my friends. It has such a lovely relaxed atmosphere with a very good inexpensive menu. Definitely worth a visit.
