We regularly visit here and always like to stop for food but came today and how disappointing, the menu had been changed and is VERY limited now and they no longer offer any form of dessert and have taken away all milkshakes… if you would like a burger or pizza then your fine but that’s about as far as menu stretches… I may add staff are very helpful and are working very hard… but it’s not worth the money to enter anymore as was charged £5 for entering the car park.

My granddaughter and I stayed at this delightful country pub for 2 nights, as her dressage trainer lives close by. Our wooden cabin, tucked away in the secluded well kept garden area, was both spacious and cosy. We had arrived on a cold and windy night, so the glowing log fires in the bar and restaurant area were a welcoming sight. Brunch and supper dishes were freshly prepared, well cooked and absolutely delicious. There was a good range of choice. Sofia sampled the burger with fries and I tucked into smashed avocado with poached eggs and smoked salmon for brunch. Supper comprised of pink lamb, a good fresh veg selection and dauphinoise potatoes. I added strips of chicken to my green curry - scrumptious. The General Manager, Ian, was attentive and checked more than once to see if we were entirely happy with all the facilities, ensuring our stay was pleasurable. As a bonus, I noticed that doggies are most welcome, so on our next visit Max the Dax will be accompanying us. The Thomas Lord pub sits in the picturesque village of West Meon that is a joy to stroll around and take in the varied architecture, much of which comprises walls built from flint and stone. We plan to return to the Thomas Lord on a regular basis and look forward to watching the well stocked garden change in colour as the seasons change.

Popped in early evening with the family for an Imprompt visit. Staff were pleasant. But after we ordered I noticed 4-5 dead roaches on the window Sill And one on the floor. This made uneasy but it is a country pub. The food arrived and we all looked at each other the two curry’s were literally from a can with risotto rice and the kids food was all deep fried. We tried a few bites and it’s was tasteless so we just left.

Having been let down by another restaurant we rang West Meon Hut and Harry the manager was delighted to accommodate us. The food was excellent and served very quickly, Harry was very attentive to our needs, and responded very well to my husbands banter. Comments were made how much Harry was like Jack Whitehall, he did have a good sense of humour.West Meon Hut only reopened 3 weeks ago, looks good so pay them a visit. Our thanks to the chef for the good food😀😀😀

Where to start. We arrived to a completely empty pub on a Sunday lunchtime, not only empty but so cold we sat in our coats. I asked for the nearby fake wood burner to be put on and this did help... eventually. The staff looked like they had just rolled up, not professional in any sense. The interior was dirty and dated. Especially the bathrooms. In fairness the food was no way near as bad as I’d expected it to be. However, it did take over and hour per course to be served, I appreciate it was a larger table (12 people) but there was no one else in the whole restaurant! Overall a real disappointment. Would not recommend.

The West Meon Hut has always been an ideal halfway meeting point for us and our son, and over the years we've had a variety of immemorable meals there. However, now under new management, last night's meal was by far the best we've ever had. Everything was freshly cooked and delicious. The staff were helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The service was perfect too. There was even a great band playing later in the evening. West Meon is a bit out of our way, but we have been eating there on many occasions from just before the first lockdown. The new owners had only just taken over then and were/are in the business of building it up when covid struck and made things very difficult. We have returned and returned because we have appreciated the food, delivered on hot plates, within a good time. There is a good variety on the menu and the prices are very reasonable. I struggle to understand the previous poor reviews because our experience over these months has been so positive. As we have gone into lockdown again, we have been enjoying their takeaways. Giving an hours notice by phone has seen good food available at the agreed time.

I do not recommend this pub for families. My children were playing in the play area and the 3 year needed the toilet. I went to sit at the table inside my 12yr old went out to help my wife with the drinks. Only for me to get shouted at by the chef saying people must remain seated. This I understand in the present climate but to restrict children going to the toilet and using the play area. Really rude and unpleasant. I am never returning and recommend other families avoid the pub.Shame I can't leave negative rating.

We found ourselves on the way home from Petersfield around lunchtime, so having passed this place on our outward journey decided to phone and book for a table for lunch as soon as we knew what time we would be there. A man answered the phone, said hello, very noisy background. I asked if we could book a table for two, he just said 'hello' again, obviously couldn't hear me. Rather than move to a quieter area so he could hear me he just hung up! We got to the pub sometime later, so I tried phoning again, from their car park! A woman answered. I asked if they had a table for 2 available, mentioned we would only be having a drink and eating one course so wouldn't be there long (in case they had reservations for a table they could allocate us first). It was 12.45pm, I told her we would be there in under 3 minutes. She informed me there was a table available we could have, then decided to berate me for not booking 24 hrs in advance! I mentioned we didn't know we were going to be there until earlier in the day, and told her about the issue with the stupid man who had answered the phone earlier to me. She still continued to have a go at me for not having booked the day before! I don't have a crystal ball to hand and have never claimed to be psychic! No need for her to be really rude to me! The fact they had a table available should have been enough, no surprise if that's the way staff treat customers. So, we pulled out of their car park and went elsewhere, where our customer was appreciated and we weren't told off and humiliated! Go elsewhere, they obviously don't want customers here! Ridiculous!

We returned to the West Meon this evening, first time for at least a year, when the place had gone downhill fast. We were a party of 3 adults and 2 young children. We sat in the garden, the tables were well spaced out and sanitised after each sitting. The menu is quite extensive, and our order was brought out in a very reasonable time, although we all chose differently. The 2 ladies serving meals and clearing up the tables worked hard and were pleasant and approachable. For all the people who remember how awful the place had become, I would say to give it another chance. We will happily return.

Visited today with my parents - extremely well organised - staff are constantly cleaning and sanitising their hands - well organised systems in place to ensure social distancing (in fact the best organised pub I’ve been to since the lifting of lockdown) - limited menu (as most venues have at the moment due to recent reopening) - good food at a good price. We arrived at our booking the staff were clueless in regards to our reservation, once we were finally seated we had no menus on the table and waited for another 20 minutes until eventually we asked for one. Service was slow for a relatively quiet evening and they didn’t do any check ups. Once getting our food the quality was awful the beef burger tasted like charcoal and flavourless, my sister found a hair in her nachos. I was bitterly disappointed as I was looking forward to a nice family accession. The garden is beautiful so an ideal place for drinks in the sun but would never go back for food.

Awful manager, meant to be dog friendly, sadly when one of our dogs had a small accident (which we cleared up immediately) when walking in, he sighed and said I'm not in the mood for this, and told us to leave. One of our party was on crutches as cant walk unaided. When asked what would happen if a child or baby had an accident we were told that they are human and a family member not dog. A small argument then took place with him advising that this was his home an restaurant not a dog hostel. So so rude it was just a small accident from a nervous dog. They need to take the dog friendly sign off their website, a disgrace and a obnoxious manager !

If you go there thinking this establishment is dog friendly. Think again. We stopped for lunch with our dogs they sat alongside our table on their own bedding, one of my dogs barked because a customer had come in and it startled her we quickly sorted the situation, she barked again and I passed her around the table to my husband. A man came up to us from we think the kitchen and spoke to us very rudely saying “it’s not just the barking you passed your dog over the table which is a dining table” which I was eating my meal on! We often eat out with our dogs and have never experienced being spoken to like that. We weren’t impressed with any of the staff, we felt tolerated, would not recommend this establishment to anyone, especially if you think your dogs would be welcome.

Pre booked a table for a Sunday lunch, when booking I saked about availability of the carvery and was advised that it was open until about 3pm to 4pm so booked for 2.15. Have to say that the young lady on the phone was really helpful and cheery. Arrived on time to be told that carvery was finished and that there'd be a 45 minute wait for food.a tad disappointed as we were looking forward to a nice roast with an eye go booking on Christmas Day if all went well, it didn't. We were eventually informed that the carvery was back on and that we'd ok. My niece and mother in law went up the get there's and they promptly ran out. The rest of the party were left wondering what was going on to. We were assured that more food would be coming out soon and that the booked tables would be served first. After about half and hour, we were informed that the carvery was ready, when we got there it was a poor affair. Very few vegetables, a poor selection of meat , no stuffing and laughable gravy. Some of the party persevered and chose from what was on offer, what they got wasn't bad but wasn't much cop either, some of the party declined to eat. My niece ordered a pizza but it was like cardboard, so she left it.

Popped in for a bite to eat with my brother on a Thursday evening, visited a few years before and decided to check it out again. Menu choice was excellent, and due to it being new we recieved an unexpected discount, which made the already low price even better. Both opted for the "XL" chicken and chorizo burger, which was spot on. About a 30 minute wait, but well worth it for taste and size of the meal. In hindsight probably didn't need to opt for the two chicken breasts as one would have been plenty, eyes bigger than the belly and all that, but a serious amount of food for less than £10 each at full price, let alone discounted!

So we ordered a cheese and tomato kids pizza instead (two of these in total in the order). We were also told that my wife's choice of the vegetarian Rigatoni was also not on - one of only a couple of vegetarian options. I was told that all the staff phoned in to say they won't be in. I did get the impression that the new owner didn't get on with the staff, but we always found the staff here very friendly and polite. When the food finally arrived the veg was over cooked and the pastry on the pies where rock hard, so much we didn't eat the pastry. All in all a very disappointing dinner. From our last visit, under the previous owners we noticed the prices had increases a far amount.

Used to visit this pub about once a week up to about a year ago. It was a Marstons 2 for 1. Then there was a change of manager/chef and it ceased to be a 2 for 1. We stopped visiting when it changed. Decided to give it another visit last week when we were in the neighbourhood. It's as good as before or even better. Two mains and two lattes for £16.17. Meals were ginormous and hot and tasty. Service was fast. Will definitely be visiting more often.

We were visiting friends in the area and decided to have lunch here. We went to the bar for drinks while we decided what we wanted. ordering is at the bar, which I thought was not a bad idea as sitting at a table and waiting for someone to come and take our order, in some places can take an age. We ordered and three of us had the home battered cod and chips, which was excellent and the young lady that waited on us was a cheerful polite young lady. Our friends dog was allowed in with us too. I would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Well I must be honest & say the jury was out after my last visit here! We were all prepared to give this another go. I’m pleased to say a huge improvement was made all round service very good, food good too! However people are still a little unsure about ordering at the bar yes don’t get me wrong their are signs however there was still some confusion with people unsure of what to do. All in all a vast improvement nice job!

Called in to the West Meon Hut on way to Gatwick airport for a break and something to eat on route. Both had special 2 for £10 deal. I had Wiltshire ham egg and chips and husband had Breaded plaice with chips and peas. Very nice indeed, very tasty, very nice approachable staff. Have been here on way to airport several years now, and no problems at all. Would recommend for sure

Taken our American friends into this pub for an evening meal when returning from a day out. The food was very good and the service was excellent. There is new management who are definitely doing a sterling job in running he business and building the business up after a spell of not such a good service from previous management.

We arrived at 6-50pm on 16th June. Very few customers. Bar staff welcoming and told us to sit where we liked. After no one approached us to take our order for food and drinks my husband went to the bar , ordered drinks and asked them to come over so we could place our order. Order taken . It then took half hour to serve soup (not very hot) and 2 starters. Another half hour wait for mains. We didn't stop for puds. Food good but service very slow.

This pub is good with plenty of car park space. We had a nice meal but two of us had to send the puddings back as we could not get our forks into it as it was so hard.Very friendly staff. We did get our money back for the puddings. Overall everything not too bad.

Went for a quick bite to eat with my daughter as we were in the area and decided to try the vegetarian burger. When it came out it was very basic and didn't have what was listed on the menu on it. I took it back a d pointed this out. it eventually cameout with some awful sauce and plastic cheese addes to it and was cooked to death.I was so tired, hungry and fed up and didn't want to complain again that I ate most of it. My daughter had a chicken burgr which was okay but uninspiring. The bar staff wre very helpful and efficient but I think the kitchens are a bit of a let down. The prices are cheap but I still felt it was terrible value for money. Would not eat here again.

A family of 4 who ate on a Sunday, we had average meals, but we were very impressed with the desserts at £2.00. I did wonder about the presentation and taste, but was very impressed, especially the strawberry and clotted cream desert! I would visit again for the great value in desserts, but average on the meals.

We always like this pub for food and that the costs are kept at a decent price. Always give you good size portions too. We have found staff always busy, the thing is you can’t tell if it’s a pub or a restaurant. Which is quite confusing, trying to do both and when you’re queuing you don’t know if it’s for food or just drinks. There is one lady there that is quite rude to people but we didn’t see her this time. But this lady will ruin this pub if she isn’t careful. But we do like the food here!

This pub proclaim on their very own website to be a ‘friendly local pub’, ‘families welcome’, ‘friendly publicans’, ‘where community comes together’, ‘you’ll feel part of the family’…which is quite frankly outrageous given our two experiences here. On the first occasion my little boy became upset in the pub (over something i cant remember- but hes 4, so standard 4yo behaviour which lasted only a minute or two). And when i came back in from the garden, I heard them laughing and one member of staff said ‘hes a brat, and his mother just cant control him which isnt my problem’. Then (heaven knows why we went back) - my friends little boy cut his cheek on the side of a bench in the beer garden - they refused to give us any first aid or call a taxi for A&E, let alone any empathy or basic duty of care. When my husband challenged the manager (Ade) and he said to us ‘if i had my way id make this an adults only pub so we dont have to deal with these nightmare kids’. I could not believe how cruel and uncaring the people working here could be. A little boy had hurt himself and they couldn’t have cared less- but more than that- they were hostile, unhelpful and offensive about the whole thing. Despite it being our local, we have not returned- and we will not be.

lovely pub but my only complaint is that legaly when a drink has been served that drink must be supplied to the recipient no matter what the time is and in the case of my visit i bought a drink near closing time and as soon as I bought that drink it was taken of me which is not just illegal but also unfair so for this reason I can not recommend this establishment at all

£26.50 for a day pass, although asked for £30 which includes donation. Our party was made up of 5 adults - we didn’t donate. To put into context, my husband and I have been members of Marwell in our days before our children. It holds a special place in our hearts. We moved away but always managed to make at least 2 visits a year as the children grew up & still do - the kids are now into their 20’s and often visit with us. Sadly the experience over the last 10 -15 years has progressively gotten worse. Every time we go we hope it will be better. Marwell was always at the forefront of conservation and education & had an extremely successful breeding program for the rhinos and giraffes. Much money has been spent on enclosures that didn’t work, the snow leopards, the cheeta, the walkway over the persian leopard, now cloud leopard, the new tropical house, the gibbon enclosure, kids play areas. Now it is a shell. Few animals, lots of paddocks full of weeds, & plastic bottles & little or no information. The annual membership is a steal but place feels more of a kiddies play area than a serious home for conservation and education. It’s expensive and disappointing. Bit on context - The Cotswold Wildlife Park is £19 for an adult. A much smaller facility but full of animals and information & staff happy to help and answer questions.

Came in for some drinks with friends- the women wouldn’t leave us alone the whole night. Watched us on the CCTV when we weren’t doing anything wrong and asked us to leave when we had bought lots of drinks. The food is sub par and the drinks extortionate . There are so many better pubs in Winchester so go to them.
